Spell's Angels #8

Game of Crones

Rate this book
Scout Randall thought killing the master vampire threatening those she loved would make everybody safe. She was wrong.
One dying utterance changed everything.
Yolanda Stratton haunts Hawthorne Hollow like an oily shadow of death. Gunner, the son she tried to kill, tries to pretend that he doesn’t care that she might have answers. He’s not fooling anybody. Graham, the husband who wishes he would’ve killed her twenty years before, is resigned to the games she will play. And Scout? She’s ready to face off with the face of abject evil, even if it comes at a cost.
Just who will be paying that price, however?
Yolanda won’t explain why the lone zombie that appeared behind the Rusty Cauldron boasted the same symbol she had branded into her shoulder years before. She won’t explain why the past is playing so heavily into the present. She definitely won’t explain why the new witch in town is after Scout… and isn’t afraid to play dirty to end her life.
Scout is a witch with a plan but outthinking an enemy she doesn’t understand could be the end of her.
There’s a whisper on the wind… and it speaks of death. Who will fall?

When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail.
Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.

These books are really starting to get intense! Great series, kinda like eating popcorn - hard to stop at one. I’m on #9 now.

So funny! But the continuity errors are still an issue

I love her style and sense of humor, that's what got me through all 8 of this series, however the errors continue. Her sister is now her cousin and she made a big deal about Scout throwing lightning in previous installments and yet she acted like she had never seen such a thing when the old lady does it. This has been a problem with all her books in this series, random facts changing out of the blue. Drives me a bit nuts, like bad capris in a battle. But as I said the sense of humor is a blast.

I really enjoyed this book, it felt kind of intense. We are definitely moving forward with the story line of the upcoming war and it was time. I am a huge walking dead guy or was in its day so that story line worked for me, although I was kind of disappointed it ultimately was easy to deal with. With that being said, how it was resolved was very cool. Gunner's mom being so important was not surprising, but was well done. Her creepy factor was off the charts and I look forward to what drama she will cause. Lots of things started that I find interesting: what kind of powers does Yolanda have, how are the wolves involved, who is the main baddie, where is Scout's family (at this point their continued absence and lack of preparing scout seems like a bad move), where is Scout's new powers, lots still to determine so with all of that, I enjoyed how this book sort if made us refocus on the main thing of what is coming and set a more serious stage. I continue to say I grow tired of Raisin, she isn't cute, that is not normal teenager behavior and at this point she is a liability. I am also tired of Marissa, I am just waiting for her to betray Scout, also, it was good to see her actually do something, it only took 8 books and it was still minor in that. Something feels off for me, something about Scout's chosen comrades just feels off, someone is not to be trusted but I am not sure who it will be at this point. At any rate, great book I just wish the death of the book's baddie didn't seem so quick an easy in the end, especially in this case as she almost killed Scout. I digress

Zombie infestation

When zombies appear and Scout is attacked and injured by a shifter called Wixom dressed in Ann Taylor Loft capri pants it the pants that offend Scout the most.

Raging about the pants seems to be channelling her focus away from the fact that Gunner used to date her back when she went by Wendy Garrett.. Scout is going to need to get her game face back on to defeat this one especially when links appear that connect Wendy to Gunner's mother Yolanda.

Scout is going to need to find a way to break Wendy, and deal with Yolanda but when they visit Yolanda and check the staff it appears that Yolanda has been playing a very long game and she's still well and truly in the middle of it all.

When she escapes its all hands on deck but first there's got to be a showdown with Wendy, and Scout will do anything to protect Gunner from his mother and her twisted purebred misogyny.

Who's Darrell?

His Mother's name is Yolanda, and she makes fun of Gunner's and Scout's name. Go figure...
O course she's a psychopath, so who can tell what goes on in her warped mind?
Not Scout, who can't get past her mental wall without demolishing it. That might destroy the information they need.
There's a new witch in town, and Scout has huge issues with her clothing choices, not to mention, she almost kills Scout who is only saved at the last minute by an unexpected source.
Did I mention there are Zombies; lots of Zombies?
Someone is behind these attacks, and it's not vampires this time.
It's not the blonde, snarky witch with the unfortunate fashion taste either.
So, who is it?
Warning: This story ends on a cliff hanger, which I can only forgive because it's obviously necessary.
Enjoy this series from the beginning!

Love this series, the snark and humour is side splitting, Amanda is such a great writer. I love Scout, Gunner and the rest of the “Spells Angels “ crew. I really enjoy the crossover books and this one involving the Winchesters is such an entertaining read. Tillie is my all time favourite character so any book she appears is is always a winner for me. Love this series where we get involved in more and more of the plot abs discover here more about Gunner’s mother who’s been mentioned in the previous books.
This is another superb book from Amanda, love this story and look forward to seeing what happens next.

So good!

Well, Scout is one of my favorites, but this is exceptional. I think we’re heading toward a big conclusion. Already, of course, more characters from different series are meeting up and working together.
So, as for this book, it’s amazing. The forces are huge, the plots are deep, much is still left uncovered. And I feel like we are racing toward an epic battle.
This book includes some Winchesters, some people who think they can stay uninvolved, purists (well, that’s never good), someone who should remain locked up, and a helpful bear.
Enjoy!

There are zombies, a snarky blonde witch (who isn't Scout) and Gunner's mother to deal with this time around

What I enjoyed:
* Looks like things are getting setup for the BIG Bad
* Scout is having trouble with Wixom
* Gunnar's mom is mysterious and somehow in the thick of things
* Happy to see Evan continuing to get better

What could have been better:
* I don't think Tillie and Bay needed to be in this story, they've crossed over with that series a bunch
* I still don't understand why Marissa has a job, all she does is slack and complain about Scout

The problem with reading/listening to a series back to back is that the author and/or publisher/editors make changes mid series. Like the fact that Emma has been Scout's sister until this book. At the beginning of this book she (background) states that her "cousin and Grandfather" are in a cabin in the town.

Why make that change out of nowhere? Was it a mistake that someone didn't catch? This is the authors' series, so why doesn't she have notes on her series to know who is whom? Things like this bug me.

I prefer seperate stories. I enjoy Witches of the Midwest, Spells Angels and Two Broomsticks. Having an occasional overlap of characters can make sense, but by pulling all of them together in this book just diluted the Winchester Family. Thistle and Clove were pushed to the back. Evan became tied to this story with no real purpose. I also didn't care for the expansion of the FBI team. Too may characters in a story that was far-fetched even for Amanda M. Lee. Overall, it felt flat and disjointed. Disappointing after waiting so long for this book to be released.

Amanda's done it again! Unput downable

Once started I had to keep reading to the end and it's left me needing more..... Edge of the seat stuff. Finally meeting Gunner's mum and getting entertained by Aunt Tillie who could ask for me. This book made me go through all the emotions sadness for Graham and Gunner, anger at Yolanda, amusement Aunt Tillie,Scout and Evan. It's a must read.

Great series!

Love the characters in this series. The plot thickens as a prophecy is revealed. New facts surface as those involved in past deeds reveal and confess their part in the ongoing conflict. There are pieces missing to this puzzle. Scout and her crew are facing a battle of epic proportions. Time is running out to identify their enemies and their end goal. A highly entertaining series. Already impatiently awaiting the next book.

Game of Drones (A Spells Angeles Cozy Mystery Book 8) by Amanda M. Lee

This was another winner. This is my favorite Author. She writes my favorites series and favorite characters. I highly recommend all her books and all the different series she writes. If you love paranormal mysteries and great characters she is the one for you. She has a great imagination and her plots are great. Diana Romano. I have read over 100 of her books and loved everyone of them.

I enjoy the series, but this one really didn't click for me. The multiple Ann Taylor loft comments were funny the first time. The 30th time they were nothing but stupid and annoying. Cute/Funny possibilities were overdone and really done too much. Multiple editing issues between books in the series and maybe between other books in her other series. I like the fact that we might finally get some clarification on Scout's background, but enough already.

Who doesn’t love a good zombie story?

Zombies and Aunt Tillie and Evan and backstories … parts were laugh-out-loud funny and parts were nail-biting … a bit. I loved seeing characters from different “series” - the Winchesters, Poet Parker, the Spells Angels, etc - brought together. Very satisfying.

I very muchj enjoy this series. This book was particularly good because of the interactions of the Spells Angels crew and sheriff graham. I enjoyed learning more about Gunners childhood and his relationship with his dad. Seeing Scout feel vulnerable for a short time made her a even better character and the fact that she listened to others take on the situation was cool too.

Go, Scout

I love these books. Scout is one of my favorite characters, no matter what she does. The storyline is headed for an impressive culmination. I can hardly wait for the next volume. The secondary characters make the stories work. Gunner and his father, Graham, are cool as heck.

This is another great read in this series. I love the snarky characters and the little surprises along the way in the book. I was surprised when the book ended and cannot wait for the next in the series. I love how this Author elicits help from the characters in her other series, that I love as well! I highly recommend this and this Author's other series! They are fun and easy to escape reality.

Mothers!

Ok what kind of mother tries to kill their child and expects the child to be greatful. One who is acording to Tillie Winchester bat shit crazy, that's who. Yolanda is a taco short of a combination plate. WOW! She, just WOW! Scout and Gunner along with the Spells Angels re on the job and we even get Evan. Can't wait to see is in store for these agents.💚💙

Maybe my favorite in this series.

This series just keeps getting better and this book is no exception. Gunner's past becomes more relevant and is better explained. Still has the same strength and snarkiness we expect from Scout but tempered with more self realization and almost a little more humility. Definitely don't pass up this latest installment.

Perhaps I've read too many of Amanda M Lee's books .... I loved this series and was eagerly awaiting this one.
Between the ego of Scout (I'm responsible for everything happening good and bad), the unrelenting snark, the obsession with the clothing brand and the Kardashians, it took away what could have been a good read.
This style and premise are repeated in all her series.

Still at war

I enjoy these paranormal mysteries by Amanda Lee. I'm very impatient waiting for the next book in each series. It's nice to have them include the other characters from her other series. It adds just the right amount of magic and ingenuity from the other characters. Just like our lives there is always another adventure around the corner.

A child of the stars

I always enjoy the Spells Angels books. This was another interesting story with a few plot lines going on. It’s interesting that Scout’s parents keep getting brought up but never really get involved. This is really the first cliff hanger in the series. I look forward to the next story in the series.

The plot thickens – this was a hard one for our hero’s to decipher and they still haven’t figured it all out. This series has been so entertaining. The characters, both hero’s and baddies, have kept me coming back for more. Love the occasional snark from our main hero, Scout and our friend from the next town over, Aunt Tillie.

another Amanda M Lee gem

Tillie & Mama Moon in the same book? What more could you ask for. Amanda did it again. Love Scout, Gunner and Graham with his grand-kitty is hilarious. Raisin & Marissa are annoying as ever. I always love when Marissa comes home wearing paranormal gook lol!
