Another enjoyable edition to the series. The thing that I like most about these books is that everything just seems to work out for the MC. Every now and then it is fun to read a story where everything goes as planned. The MC is OP and knows exactly what to do and how to do it. Everyone around looks at what the MC does and thinks "Holy shit!". It's pure popcorn and bubblegum entertainment. Like watching your favorite sports team kick the crap out of another team. Every once and a while you just want to cut loose and have nothing else to worry about. Just plain entertainment.

This is another enjoyable book when taken as part of a series, though it's not quite that good when taken as an individual entity... let me explain.

I love this series. It's simplistic, it's wish fulfilment, the dialogue is really on the nose, and there are some serious Gary Stu vibes coming from the protagonist; but despite all that, this series is filled with charm. It's the equivalent of a summer blockbuster, something that's dumb and fun at the same time, something that requires you to just shut your mind off and go along for the ride. But the caveat to this is that you read the whole series in a binge model, and not with a long wait between each book.

The reason for this is that each book isn't a complete story in and of itself. It instead is just a collection of chapters from a larger body of work that have been bundled together in what, for lack of a better term, I will call an episode. The same is true here. This is a short book that moves a lot of plot points along a small amount and does progress the series, but it isn't really bundled into what I consider a whole story (containing a beginning, middle and end) in this single volume.

Taken on its own merits it's probably a 3-star read at best. But as part of a series, I'm happy to bump that up to 4 stars. As always, I just wish it was longer as I felt like I was just getting started with this episode, and the book was already over.

This book was another appetizer for the coming Demon War plotline, but I still enjoyed it. While a lot of other books feel like they're wasting my time and dragging the story out, this series provides a lot of fun scenes with the supporting cast while gathering the pieces for the overall story.

It's rare that I enjoy a series beyond the 4th book and extremely rare to enter book 10 territory. I'd say I'm here for the entire ride at this point.

A bit of a declining quality

These books used to have interesting twists and complex characters. Now everyone falls for the same trick of oh man. This guy's going to be lame and then they'll be like all day. No, he's not. He routed the empire, became King, repel demons, and people still underestimate him and I just don't get it.

losing interest

I liked this series, even with its rough edges. The rough parts have grown more annoying.

Rating 4 stars because it isn’t *worse* than the previous books. I have changed, not the writing.

Legion, the 9th book in Michael Sisa’s "Legend of the Arch Magus" series, published in 2023 and narrated by Tom Taylorson, is a compelling escalation of the saga’s stakes, blending progression fantasy with strategic world-building. This audiobook delivers a fast-paced narrative centered on Lark Marcus, the reincarnated Arch Magus. Legion captivates with its ambitious scope and Taylorson’s masterful narration.

In Legion, Lark, the exiled duke’s son wielding unparalleled magical knowledge, faces mounting challenges as his domain’s influence grows. Sisa excels at showcasing Lark’s hyper-competence, a hallmark of the series that remains engaging despite its familiarity. Key highlights include Lark’s innovative use of magic to bolster his territory’s defenses and economy, with scenes of strategic planning and magical feats that feel both grandiose and grounded. The book introduces broader conflicts, hinting at rival powers and looming threats, which add tension and expand the medieval world’s political tapestry. Sisa’s ability to make Lark’s reforms - whether through infrastructure or warfare - feel impactful keeps the power-fantasy formula fresh, appealing to anyone who enjoys relentless progression.

Tom Taylorson’s narration is a standout, consistently praised as “perfect” for the series. His dynamic range - crisp for Lark’s calculated demeanor, intense for action. Taylorson’s ability to differentiate characters and maintain engagement makes Legion a joy to listen to.

In conclusion, Legion is a worthy addition for fans of Lark’s unstoppable rise, offering high-stakes fantasy and Taylorson’s exceptional performance. It is another “fun” power-progression fantasy. Ideal for anyone who wants a mental vacation in a magical world.

I don’t know man. Once we’ve caught up on the antics of all the arseholes, like Blackie and Big Mona, there’s not much room left for the plot. Lord, I’ve forgotten the guy’s name. Lark or Larch, I think. Anyway, Lar… thingy doesn’t really care what anyone else does as long as he gets what he wants. It’s kind of boring when a lot of the book is his allies being douches, and then he’s like, eh, whatever. That’s kind of the note I’m ending this series on. Eh, whatever.

Can't wait for the next one!

But i have to! 😂
Seriously good series. A few editing issues, but idgaf because the story is worth it.. besides they're minor.

It's building up to an epic conclusion...which will make me sad once it's over. Hopefully we'll see more from Michael Sisa in future.

I do not recommend this Book 9 or the rest of this web novel (also available as a extremely short -volumed novel series).
The murder and carnage of more than a thousand elves was not enough bloodshed for this author. In this Volume 9, the Scylla “Blackie” tries to murder two of the Dragon Guardians of the Dwarves. “Blackie” has done more damage to this fantasy-alternative-reality world than most demons. So, what could be the reason for killing the “peaceful” elves or Guardian Dragons of the Dwarves or the 100 Royal Guards in the Forbidden lands (Dungeon)? Why create a Scylla that enjoys killing the people of this world and has yet to fight/defeat one demon, one bad being?
I think the author, should quit being a medical doctor (because he has no idea of how to value life, respect basic “UNIVERSAL” human rights and seek urgent psychiatric therapy. It seems that the Hippocratic oath that binds most doctors was misunderstood by this author.
Stories and books are ideas, they represent the “intentions”, "projections" "sentiments" and “thoughts” that authors have. An author that is sadistic, a total psychopath, is not a good role model of ethical values, positive stories to look up to. If this story is designed to be read by minors (underage readers) and Young Adults (YA), what could be the positive value of a story like this one? What could this story teach its readers? That violence/carnage without limits has absolutely no consequences? How could something like this be notable to read?
What could be positive of enslaving, torturing, murdering, sapient and sentient beings? The author, through the main character, Lark/Evander exchanged the lives of more than 30 thousand of the strongest Dwarf warriors for the "spirits" of 1004 Blackstone (Undead) warriors. Who would willingly and knowingly exchange 30+ thousand living dwarves for 1004 undead? It lacks honor, loyalty to their allies, and common sense. It's even worse that these "ideas" and actions come out of a medical doctor that swears through the Hippocratic oath, to protect lives and do everything possible to "heal" and "save" the lives of every one of his patients.
So, because it's fiction, the author is not responsible for the consequences of his carnage, killing-sprees or orders of his main characters? Just like Stalin, Pol Pot, Castro, Mao Zedong, Hitler and the "rulers/tyrants/dictators" that were never tried or punished for killing millions of people in their countries or their neighbors. Actions have consequences. Actions beset reactions, just like the stated Karma and Newtonian laws of motion. This author weakens his allies and strengthens his temporal Lukas Kingdom and in exchange gives cannon fodder (dwarves, elves, pirates, etc.) to his enemies (Empire, Demons, etc.). To contradict the Natural Laws, to not face the consequences/responsibilities of the actions taken is nonsensical, irrational and delusional. To kill his allies without bearing any consequences or punishments is impossible.

Ah yes, catching up with the masterful pile of shit that is Lark and his endless gloating about how much better he is than everyone else. Reading this book full of filler gave me cancer, and I regret the time lost reading this drivel.

Can't wait for the next issue, I will be brutally honest with rating it too.

I'm reading this series on auto-pilot now. Each book is short and easy, and you get what you expect. I know it's fast food but I can't stop eating.

I had to keep telling myself this was fiction, created in a very imaginative mind.

Lots of slashing, stabbing, ripping, hacking, slicing, dismemberment -- yep, violence was a way of life more often than not, and between Lark's past reputation and his adroit, perfectly executed spells and other magical techniques (which were beautiful, brilliantly flawless art forms resembling complex dance routines most of the time), I found myself skimming quickly through a good many pages due to the author's very graphic and gruesomely written depictions of how monsters, demons, and humans were getting disemboweled, ripped apart, decapitated, and so on. Whew! Deep breaths. In other words, things get bloody, and messy, and many people (and other beings) die violently.

I enjoy when Lark executes his magic - he doesn't mess around, nor does he miss, plus he grows even stronger the further the storyline plays out. I cannot resist the plot twists, and I am invested in his ultimate goal of turning his little town of Blackstone into a successfully prosperous, independently self sufficient and sustainable, mini city. His goal continues to be upgraded with every success and achievement that he earns, most of the time unintentionally, which upsets an amazingly large contingencies of people. The story, plot bumps and twisted upheavals offer humor and the most intriguing new characters as Lark keeps getting.noticed or sought out. Four and a half stars - the narrative switches are confusing, and not enough of Lark's voice is present at significant points of the twists. A few times I had to backtrack when I completely lost track of a character. Still, a fun, if often grotesque read. 😳😶 🌟🌟🌟🌟✴

A continuation of a series with great potential

This is more of a general review of the series so far then of this singular book. The author is able to convey a vivid imagery with a well thought out plot that keeps me coming back for more. What I enjoy most about this series is that there is absolutely zero filler at all, it’s never wow they have been traveling here to here for six chapters and little besides some mild character development has occurred. It’s from one thrilling moment to the next without becoming just a jump from one to another. All in all well done can’t wait for the next book.

My Rating System:
5- Perfect for my taste, I could not physically stop reading/listening and wanted more afterward.
4- Almost perfect, could not stop reading/listening, probably wanted more afterward.
3- I enjoyed the book and could see others loving it, I need to think if I want more.
2- I can see why others might like the book, but I could not, I do not want more.
1- What is this? What went wrong? Why did they do this? This doesn't make any sense! (No idea who it is for, but definitely not for me).

Great Book, Great Series

King Lark is contacted by dragons. Will he align himself with them, or does he have something else in mind. The upcoming war with the demons will require a combined effort. To this end he is recruiting the most able people he can find. This is one of my favorite series. I like the characters, action, humor, plot, and touch of romance. The former King is always trying to marry his daughter off to Lark. I look forward to the next book.

Great Read

Yet another great read. I love the series, it is well written and interesting. However, I must say both this book and the last one seemed a bit short, like they were only telling half the story. It seems like they have only just got started and then it was over without any sort of climax or conclusion. I still highly recommend the series and can’t wait for the next book.

good continuation. need to speed up the story

If you liked the earlier books you will like this one as well. Lark’s story continues as the new king. Neighboring countries are added to the plot. This is a staging book we’re the author is getting the world ready for war with deamons. Not much of a power up for Lark. I hope Author speeds up the plot some. Last two books nothing significant happened.

why do you keep dropping characters like they never existed?
Clark, Alecto, Nickolai etc
there are so many angles that are not being followed up making everyone think "what happened afterwards?"
you keep on dropping the side stories.

And its already BOOK 9 and everyone is still looking down on Lukas?

3 mythical creatures bow down to him infront of everyone and yet the empire spies didnt even saw it or heard of it?

there are so many dumb things here.

Excellent

Despite the fact that the arch mage did not actually appeal that many times in this book it was still an excellent continuation of the storyline. Some threads are finally coming together and I have a strong feeling the next book is going to be very much in this vein. I look forward to the next book.

building up again

Writing style in consistent with previous books. Characters are showing incremental development. It’s setting up for the next arc so not a lot of big developments but still has entertaining action and plot progress. If you made it this far from book 1 you’ll be appeased until the next book.

Ssssssoooooo good!

Another good read, it is a shame it's so short but it was less than £4, I spend more than that for coffee 😁

Anyways it's a great story, fun, nice character development and not too fast paced than its unbelievable (even though it's complete fantasy). Fingers crossed it not too long till the next instalment .

Another solid entry into the series!

The author has continued to grow Lark's role and responsibilities and his world. But I would like to see the author continue to also grow his other characters as well. Currently I believe several are under served in their current rolls. The story telling has grown smoother as the series has progressed. Keep up the good work.

wondering writing

Great book just to short wish it was so much longer I understand why he releases 2 at a time in the audible. Keep it up I dont have a bad thing to say about this other then please don’t stop it’s so much more and so many side stores that could be told from this series. You could even do a before book on his life and I guarantee readers would love it.
