Unshakeable

Rate this book
Countess Marta von Holstadt knows society’s rules, even if she doesn’t enjoy following them. A lady keeps her mouth shut, marries well, and never works for a living. And she certainly does not spend her entire birthday party admiring a hired violinist, no matter how handsome he is. Hiring him as her music tutor, though—that could make Marta’s restricted life a bit more lively.
Andras Király is certainly talented, but frankly, he’s struggling. Working at a second-rate opera company means he can barely support himself, let alone a sick father and three sisters in Hungary. Tutoring Marta von Holstadt could help him stave off financial ruin. But his family’s revolutionary past, coupled with a growing attraction to his new student, could turn Andras’ amazing opportunity into a disaster.
Though class and country divide them, Marta and Andras can’t ignore their chemistry forever. As a highly improper romance develops, they’re forced to consider if an artist and aristocrat can have a future together … and the consequences of getting caught.

I got to read an ARC of this beauty (as well as beta read a while back) and I'm just so happy that Molly finally brought this story into the world!
Her style of writing is just gorgeous, giving you that luxurious taste of older language styles without being stuffy. I think her prose was my favourite part. It just has a very smooth and sumptuous feel to it that I don't see very often. She also goes off-book a little in terms of traditional romance wherein she includes POV snippets of a few side characters, but it really does help provide context and flesh out bits of the plot our heroes wouldn't be aware of.
Her characters are well rounded too, and I fell in love with them all over gain while reading the ARC. Marta and Andras are excellent leads and I adore all of the side characters in this story. I think Brigita might be my fave side character, or Jozefa.
Anyhoo, this book is very well written with delightful characters and I super appreciate historical romance that's branching outside of the UK. Austria and Hungary was refreshing to read about and not a setting I see pop up very much so it was extra enjoyable.
Go read it <3

Where do I start? Unshakeable is set in Vienna, Austria, something I like with how different it is compared to the usual historical romance's setting in England, Scotland etc. The forbidden romance between Martha and Andras is so SO well done. I was drawn into the book immediately and was really invested in their story. The writing was beautiful, the side characters were well written. I couldn't recommend this book enough.

mf - historical romance - class gap - low steam - 1800s - continental Europe - opposites attract - ARC - 5 stars. This historical is just delightful. It’s progressive and clever, and I love the setting and characters. There are so many interesting side characters too - I wonder who is going to get their own story next? I received a copy from the author but this review is all mine.

OK this ARC was cute af! I haven't read anything low spice for a while, but I've always had a soft spot for hist rom and this book checked all my boxes.
Loud, sunshiney FMC? Check.
Passionate and artistic MMC? Check.
Delightful af side characters?? Check.
Realistic class divides with a hard look at poverty? Check.
Set somewhere outside of England and area?? Double Check! Don't get me wrong, I'm an absolute sucker for books set in England, Ireland, and Scotland, and while this book does have a brief stop in England, it's primarily set in Vienna and Budapest which I LOVED.
It's hard to pick out all the moments I loved without getting crazy spoilery, but just know that I had a very good time. 10/10. Will be pawing at the glass for whenever this author gives us more. A+ debut!

TWs: none that I can remember
Ages: MMC is 24, FMC is 21

The couple in this one was really sweet and cute (MMC blushes a few times & I am a sucker for that). I sought this out because of the working class MMC, and indeed most of the conflict here is the MCs trying to overcome the class difference. I liked the side couple, too, though I suspect a lot of people would The third act was a bit boring imo, and I don't know if I'm totally satisfied with the way things turned out so perfectly with her parents, but it was fine.

Obligatory 5-star review from myself, the author... I am very fond of this book and think it's funny that I managed to work a reference from The Office into a very emotional, dramatic scene. One doesn't see that often enough in historical romances.

Unshakeable is such a charming book. I don't often read historical fiction, but I'm glad I took a chance on this one. I was hopelessly enamored by the characters from chapter one, pulled in by Countess Marta's bright excitement. It's impossible not to fall a bit in love with Marta and Andras while watching them fall in love with each other. And don't even get me started on the other characters. Brigita? Heini? And of course the delightful Clara! The supporting cast is just as charming as the main characters. I would be happy to read five more book following the different characters in the Unshakeable universe if the author would be nice enough to bless us with them.
I received an eARC from the author for the purpose of giving an honest review. All opinions are my own.

A great first entry from a new indie author! A fun setting, characters worth rooting for, and a plot with genuine conflict that couldn't be solved by a single honest conversation (one of my biggest romance peeves). Absolutely recommended.
