I loved it. I’m so happy I was able to get and read this volume. I cannot wait until the next one comes out like literally cannot wait. I’m on pins and needles with excitement. I don’t care what the title of the manga says this series needs to keep going because I am fully vested.

"What can I do... to reach you?"

THIS VOLUME 😭

There are so many sweet and tender moments I want to yell about, this manga feels like both a warm blanket and an explosion of fuzzy feelings...

Things change quickly for our two boys now that Kakeru realised he also has feelings for Yamato. He's looking for the nicest, "coolest" way to tell him, still plagued with imposter syndrome and low confidence. He desperately wants to be worthy of Yamato's affection. Faced with awkward situations, pent-up emotions and quite a few misunderstandings, Kakeru has no choice but to be honest and face his fears.

The emotions in this series are so on point. It's definitely one of the things that makes it work so well. Yamato is left clueless when faced with an increasingly caring and jealous Kakeru. He is so used to his love being one-sided that he doesn't know how to react when Kakeru does nice things for him, like inviting him to the beach or giving him chocolates for valentine's day. He's scared he won't be able to control his emotions and all his feelings for him.

Kakeru, on the other hand, feels more erratic as the chapters go by and as he's trying to cope with the intensity of his feelings. Jealous Kakeru is something else, and even him is surprised to see he's feeling this way. He's still not sure of where he wants this to go, but he now knows that Yamato is very special to him. He is very clear about the fact that he developed these feelings over time, unlike Yamato who has always been pining after him, but he is now ready to act on them. He has changed so much over the course of the volumes, he is no longer running from his emotions and difficult situations. While he still has a way to go to believe in himself, he's more open and honest about who he is and what he wants.

Despite the series being a little too slow in places, it remains a must-read, even more so with this volume. The emotional exploration of delicate social situations, and just of growing up in general, is very well-done and touching. Following these two's story is such a delight!

I adore you.

Two years ago or so, I picked up I Cannot Reach You, Vol. 1 on a whim because it looked really cute and soft. From page 1 I knew I was going to fall deeply in love with these characters, and I haven't gone back on this thought since. Kakeru and Yamato's story is now deeply embedded in my heart, and ICRY has easily shot up my list of fav manga.

Everything about ICRY is so deliciously tender and swoon-worthy, and it's a masterclass in writing slow burns that end all slow burns. Vol. 7 finally has Kakeru and Yamato "reach each other" with their feelings. While Yamato has always been confident in his feelings since day 1, we see Kakeru carefully mull it over several volumes until he matures enough to understand his own heart. By the end of vol. 6, he knows how he feels, but it takes almost all of vol. 7 for him to come clean with it and admit to Yamato--and, more importantly, to himself--that he is indeed in love with him.

Unlike in previous volumes, this one really focuses on the two leads with very little input from secondary characters. We see Nitta and Mikoto for a little while, but everything is really geared towards Kakeru and his goal to confess in the coolest way possible. What he fails to understand until the very end is that Yamato isn't interested in whether he is cool or not; he simply loves him unconditionally for who he is. Yamato is happy just being around Kakeru, and even more so when he finally hears that their feelings are mutual. The "how" is not important to him as long as his favourite person decides to stay by his side.

Everything that Yamato says or does sets the heart aflutter. He is so straightforward and genuine with how he feels, yet he doesn't force Kakeru to give him an answer until he's ready. Yamato loves selflessly; as long as he can at least keep Kakeru's friendship, then he's ok with anything else.

None of it matters as long as you'll stay by my side. I've never been unhappy since I developed these feelings--not even once! So don't say it was all a mistake.

Thanks to Kakeru, however, we see Yamato positively melting on every other page. When Kakeru displays jealousy for the first time, Yamato is shocked and can't understand if it means something more or not. Kakeru acts out of character (by his own admission) and erratically throughout the volume until he finally confesses, but Yamato takes all of these signs as confusing, which leads him to question Kakeru (and himself) about what it all means.

Vol. 7 ends with them officially dating, but that's not the end of their story. Mika promises us more adventures to come, and I can't wait to see where this series goes.

Otro vol TAN bien pensado.

ALL OF THE MISUNDERSTANDINGS AND YEARNING HAVE FINALLY PAID OFF!
It was absolutely adorable seeing Kakeru stress out so much on confessing his feelings to Yamato then later on getting the courage to officially ask Yamato out on a date. Meanwhile, seeing Yamato interacting with his coworkers and other more side/minor characters was very interesting to see.
The ending of this volume was very lovely and satisfying, and I’ll eagerly await the next volume.

A slow burn...

Finally, Kakeru and Yamato confessed and are dating as a couple. It took 7 manga to get there, but what a delightful story! I even enjoyed the drama on Netflix, which followed the storyline closely. An easy recommendation!

So there's been quite a gap between when I read the previous volumes to this and I think some of the magic disappeared for me. It's still sweet and slow but they still have communication issues . . but at least it's somewhat comedic lol?

7 volumes in, and I'm still not entirely sure I'm feeling the romantic chemistry, but I did overall like this volume. Mostly because Kakeru finally stops being wishy washy and actually shows more of what makes him appealing as a friend and a romantic interest. He's genuinely doing his best! The failed beach confession was really funny and very true to his character.

And the eventual true confession wasn't nearly as cool and dramatic as he'd wanted, but it was very sweet and fit their relationship.

I liked, too, that while Kakeru understood and could picture a scenario where he wasn't in Yamato's life, and Yamato could've possibly been "happier" with a traditional path and a normal girlfriend, etc, he doesn't spend a huge amount of time dwelling on that. Maybe things would've been different if they hadn't met as kids and stayed friends for years. But that isn't their story - he is a part of Yamato's life, and he respects Yamato enough to value his feelings and not try to diminish them by removing himself from the picture.

It's nice to see things finally becoming mutual...with some natural awkwardness still left over, because Kakeru doesn't know what he's doing or how relationships are supposed to go.

Honestly, I...don't like Fujino as a character. He was pretty nasty to Yamato from his first appearance, and he's still been such a weird meddler in Kakeru's life and relationships. While he gets along with Yamato a little better now, I can't really see him supporting Kakeru dating him...I assume we'll get to that happy ending, but it's going to feel pretty unrealistic. All their other friends, family, coworkers etc will be great, but Fujino? Can't picture him being anything other than startled and a little grossed out. And it's weird to me that he and Kakeru are shown to be such close friends, with Kakeru sharing so much with him in this volume. He has other friends who are a lot more open-minded and give actual good advice.

(Yes, I do miss seeing more of Hosaka and Amamiya.)

The Netflix show has been faithful to the Japanese Manga, but now it's diverging from the material. There is lots of new stuff in this issue I haven't seen.

Kerkaru take Yamato to the ocean to try and confess and instead gets wet in February and gets a cold. It's quite cute. Still, the love confession has finally taken place between both parties and there was a good kiss. There's been hand holding as well.

This has been very sweet. This volume is filled with sugar. I can't wait for the next volume to see how their relationship changes. More people are finding out. How long can they keep this a secret?

I just love this story. I love the innocence and pure joy of being in love. Such a treat to read.

They finally got together! In a very Kakeru manner, his attempts at confessing didn't really go to plan, but I'm glad they made it without too many more hiccups! Excited to see what happens next!
