Scoring on the ice? Piece of cake.
Scoring off it? Well, there’s a reason I’m still a virgin.

I’m not entirely clueless with women, though I do tend to put my foot in my mouth around them far too often.

Like I did with Scout, the donut maker I stupidly introduced myself to despite visiting her truck for years.

Maybe my teammates have a reason to call me the dumb one, but I’m determined to prove them all wrong—Scout included.

I want to be her friend. Want her to see the real me.

What I’m not expecting is to like her so much when we start spending time together…or want to kiss her so badly.

I’m the jock, and she’s the bookworm.
On paper, we make no sense together.

But maybe I have a scoring chance with her after all.

SCORING CHANCE is a standalone hockey romantic comedy. There's a virgin hero, a secret crush, wit, steam, and a whole lot of fun!

Perfect example on How to ruin a 4 star book in the third act.

This book was great I LOVED IT I WAS EXCITED AND I FELL FOR MILLER AND SCOUT SO QUICKLY.
The romance built up from friends to lovers was so much fun to read about and hearing Miller open up about his childhood was great. He also has a great personality and I love how he cares for so many people and basically is the perfect example of a golden retriever.
The chemistry was there and I was loving it.

Now buckle in for the problems…
I’ll start off with the overall series:

- pretty much every main girl has an ex boyfriend that cheated on her and is not confident at all in her body
- every book has a scene where the guy has to convince her that she’s beautiful
- the plot lines feel very repetitive at times especially because every main guy (expect Miller) has the exact same boring grumpy possessive hockey player personality “that could NEVER be in a relationship”
- I would love to have some changes in the general starting plot especially because the cheating ex boyfriend really doesn’t do anything for the plot. Let’s just let her be single and not hurt by an asshole before.

Now the problems with the book:
- Miller is a very Open guy and confessed pretty early on why he wants to take her on a date and how he’s starting to have feeling for her as more than a friend BUT SOMEHOW SCOUT STILL DECIDES TO FORGET HE EVER MENTIONED ANY OF THOSE THINGS

- Miller is putting 200% into this relationship and I loved it because it was very visible by his actions that he is a kind loving soul that would do anything for Scout BUT YET AGAIN SOMEHOW SHE THINKS HE IS ONLY IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH HER BECAUSE HE FOUND OUT AFTER THAT SHE HAS HAD A CRUSH ON HIM FOR 2 YEARS

- Miller confesses that he’s a virgin because he’s never had time for a girlfriend and put hockey first but that he has done other things with women and that he never really got to that stage with any women he has ever kissed AND SOMEHOW SHE STILL THINKS THAT HE IS ONLY DATING HER SO HE CAN LOSE HIS VIRGINITY AS FAST AS POSSIBLE

- Miller and Scout had sex and after they talked for a long time and when he fell asleep he whispered “I love you” BUT SOMEHOW SCOUT JUST GOES “he’s a jock and I’m a bookworm… this isn’t real”

I am so absolutely mad at the main girl in this book. First of all you need a reality check so here it is:
he doesn’t need to be with you to lose his virginity… HE COULD HAVE TAKEN ANY OTHER GIRL THAT LIKES HIM AND THAT HE KISSED BUT HE CHOSE YOU. I really don’t get how she even got to the conclusion that he’s only with her to lose his virginity.
Please be serious for a second because tell me how he spent weeks coming to your donut shop every day to make it up to you for not recognizing you because he wants to be your friend.
Tell me how you come to the conclusion that this is all just for his virginity when he right away noticed how your work was stressing you out and stepped in and helped right away for the entire day just to relive you from your stress.

Also riddle me this Sherlock:
Why did you think he isn’t allowed to be mad or at least shocked after finding out you wrote a book about him losing his virginity to you??
God I hate her so much I’m getting so pissed while writing this review…

Now here are some quotes because why not:
First the good ones:

- He asked her out on a first date and walked her home:

“I…um…good night,” she says.
“Good night.”
She laughs, dropping her eyes to where our fingers are still laced. “I kind of need my hand back, Miller.”
“Right. But here’s the thing—I kind of don’t want to let go.”
“Kind of?”
“More than kind of. I definitely don’t want to let go.”

- then this is their first kiss that same night:

It’s soft and unhurried, like we’re both afraid to move too fast because then we know it will be over.”

NOW THE BAD QUOTES:
1.
“This whole thing was just an experiment for you anyway. You wanted to lose your virginity, so you picked the easy target, the girl who was crushing on you and wouldn’t turn you down. This isn’t going to last, and you know it.”
My jaw slackens, and everything inside of me aches to the bone. “Is…is that what you think about us?”
She tips her chin up but doesn’t say anything.
The longer we stand here, the angrier I become.
“Has this all just been a game to you? Has everything we’ve been doing over the last few months just been research for your book? Using me? Like my fucking parents did?”
There’s a flash of hurt in her eyes at my accusations, but she still doesn’t say anything

2.
“I’m sorry, but I had no right?” I ask, pointing to myself. “You wrote a fucking book about me, Scout. About us.”
“It’s not about us.”
“Really? Because it sure as shit looked like it to me.”
“Who cares if it is?” She laughs derisively.”

3.

That’s just it, Stevie—it was a crush, a harmless, silly, schoolgirl crush. He’s the jock. I’m the bookworm. We make no sense together. My crush was safe because it was fantasy.”
“But now it’s not. It’s real.”

I HATE IT HERE

Hockey guy and donut girl!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: 😎☺️🙃😚

The heroine: Scout Thomas - She owns a popular donut truck and sees herself as the kind of girl that is always in the background while more outgoing women put themselves out there, she is not seen. She dreams of writing and publishing a romance novel and has a huge crush on Grady Miller, pro hockey star with good looks that would make any male model jealous.

The Hero: Grady Miller - a 24 year old NHL Hockey player for the Carolina Comets. He is also a virgin. He lived for Hockey, from 4 am practices every morning as a teen, to running drills into the evening, games on the weekends and not wanting his GPA to suffer. He just never had the time for girls. Now all his hard work has paid off and he is awkward with women and doesn’t know how to rectify the situation.

The Story: Grady comes to Scouts food truck at least once a month. He is the kind of celebrity who will take the time to sign autographs and take photos with the fans that sometimes surround him and the kind of nice guy that will buy a dozen donuts and go share them with the homeless man down the street. He also saw Scout at a party one night a few weeks back and didn’t recognize her, which just affirms what she already thinks about herself.

I must say I don’t usually like it when the hero is a virgin, in this day and age it is rare enough when the woman is one, but for a handsome man who is also a jock to be one, it is like finding a unicorn swimming in the middle of the ocean. Though I must say it is explained well, between Grady’s uber strict parents who drove him to focus on nothing but hockey and school with no time for distractions to his own drive for success. I also liked the fact that he has some sexual experience so he is not a total newbie.

Teagan Hunter is great at writing lots of supporting characters and giving plenty of information about them each so they aren’t just one-dimensional background material, they are living and breathing people with their own personalities. Many of them are the guys from previous books and their women and there is plenty of information that you can read each book as a standalone and not feel lost. There are also the rest of the teammates and people in Scouts life.

I wanted to learn more about both Scout and Grady from the start, more about how they grew up and the issues in their pasts that made them who they were at the beginning of the book. The relationship between these two built in time and through contact and texting (no insta-love), so that was fun to read as well.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

I've been waiting ever so patiently for Miller's book and it didn't disappoint! He's definitely my favorite hero in Hunter's hockey series and this book gave me all of the happy feels. I love how Miller was with Scout. He has such a fun personality and is the goof-ball of the team, but we got to see a different side to him in this. Scout was relatable in a lot of ways and I really loved their romance.

ESTUVO BIEN BONITOOO!!!

Miller sin duda mi personaje favorito de esta serie, es divertido, tierno, sexy medio inocente y juguetón LO AMO.

Scout, es medio tímida un poco introvertida, pero es muy tierna.

Juntos eran demasiado cute.

H has never:
-Had a girlfriend
-Go down on a women
-Had sex (virgin)
Until h comes.

h had a bf and was not a virgin but celibate for three years.
Two of them she has known H.
h’s bf cheated on her on her dad’s funeral day. So, obv she is not very trusting. Also, she is plus size and has low confident. I get where she was coming from but I prefer plus size (or any size really) to be more confident but sadly it’s normal in real life to be less confident and I get that the author was trying to write her as more real. The H never thinks her body is less than gorgeous once they start to hang out more. He doesn’t sexualize her body until he starts to have more feelings for her and are hanging out more.

During the two years, he goes to her work (donut truck) frequently but never “saw” her. Until in a party of his friends, she goes and he doesn’t know she is the same as donut truck. She is angry and heartbroken because she was crushing on him during the two years. He was dating others but normally nothing happened with them (the most kissing and bj I guess but he said normally nothing happened) I didn’t like that he didn’t pay attention to her since the beginning but he apologize and realizes that he really wish he did. I guess it was not so bad because he is the one that push more for the relationships and he is honestly a sweetheart even tho it’s not really the typical grumpy H. He is the sunshine and she is more grumpy.
Also, h is 28, H is 24

A reverse grumpy x sunshine hockey romance with an older fmc and virgin mmc, Scoring Chance was really cute and fluffy friends to lovers read.

This book is entirely character driven without much plot. There is a super heavy focus on character development, particularly with Scout, the fmc. She had a bad break up, and is learning to trust again. And Grady is learning to… be a boyfriend, I guess? He is mostly inexperienced in everything, and Scout takes all of his firsts. There’s a small age gap, and at times I found Grady to be way too immature for Scout.

With all that said, this book was really cute. Grady falls head over heeeeeeeels for this girl. After badgering her to be his friend, Scout slowly but surely opens up to him. I really liked the conflict in this book because I did NOT see it coming. There’s a third act breakup, but I kinda loved how it all played out.

Thank you so much to Valentine PR for this arc! It comes out 10/20!

Scoring Chance is the 5th book in the Carolina Comets hockey romance series from Teagan Hunter. I’ve been having a great time with this low angst, hockey romance series and this one was another hit!

Miller is a 24-year old professional hockey player and a virgin! We’ve seen him as the rookie throughout the series and it was so fun finally seeing his story. Scout is the donut maker and another character we’ve seen featured throughout the series. She’s been crushing on Miller for the past couple years and is crushed when he ends up introducing himself to her one day…as if they don’t already sorta know one another with him coming to her donut truck for a while. After some slightly hurt feelings, he makes it up to her and they become friends!

Scout has been wanting to be a romance author but hasn’t been able to write since the death of one of her dads. But now with Miller in her life, she’s feeling inspired! She ends up agreeing to be his date for a hockey fundraiser event when she sees his teammates giving him a hard time about finding a date and from there is when their romance starts to pick up. These two were real cute together, she’s a curvy heroine and slightly older than him (she’s 28, he’s 24), and I just always love a friends to lovers setup!

This was such a cute and wholesome romance and I absolutely adored Grady and Scout! I'll be honest...I could have done without the third act breakup because it seemed a bit unnecessary but it's okay. I still loved them all the same. I will forever and always have a soft spot for virgin boys🥹🫶🏾

safety squad:
- no OW/OM drama
- no cheating/sharing
- sports romance
- virgin hero, heroine's been celibate for 3 years ever since her ex cheated on her
- curvy girl rep
- H is 24, h is 28
- hockey player x bookworm/romance author (she also owns a donut truck!)
- HEA

Throughout the story of Scoring Chance, I kept yelling MILLERRRRR. I've been eager to read about Miller and his future love interest since the beginning of this series. And Teagan nailed it perfectly. Due to my greed and upcoming birthday, I view Miller and Scout as my perfect birthday present.🤭

Grady Miller is known for flirting with everyone, but his teammates don't always appreciate it, especially when it’s their female partners. It's a common misconception that Miller dates many women, but this is not true. Grady Miller may have taken numerous ladies out on dates, but he is a virgin who has never even had a girlfriend since he grew up believing that hockey was everything.

The donut truck that the Comets players adore is owned and operated by Scout Thomas, a very well-known young woman. She loves the truck, but her dream is to become an author. But she hasn't written anything in a very long time, and she can't write a few sentences for fun. She lacks inspiration and excitement, which is the cause of her writer's block. Stevie, Scout's sister, is aware that Scout is hiding inside herself and makes every effort to persuade Scout to come out; eventually, we will see it.

If you've read the entire series, you'd be aware that the last book ends with Miller introducing himself to a woman at a party, to the woman's annoyance. Ah, right, good old Grady Miller, forgetting that the girl he introduced himself to at the party and who also happens to sell the tastiest doughnuts, is present. Ever since Scout Thomas has ignored him and won't accept his apology. Nevertheless, Miller, being Miller, finds a way to win her over with his apology and attempts to win her over as a friend.

Afterward, their friendship developed into a romantic connection. They both deserved a partner who would genuinely love them, and they found it in each other. They soften me to the point where I am at a loss for words other than to state that I am freaking out about everything. We adore a devoted guy that is always there for us. Have to love Miller dude, ugh. Miller will always be superior to me!

Anywho, the next book when 👀

Scoring Change is the 5 book in the Caroline Comets series. This is the story of Miller and Scout. And OMG if you have love the previous books in this series you will love this one so so much.

We have know Miller as a the flirting guy but in his story we learn that is so much more of him that nobody knew. And when he made a mistake with Scout he is decide to do whatever it takes so she can forgive him and maybe be friends. But that friendship change soon because they can't denied their great chemistry and feelings.

But Scout is a little insecure for past experiences that make her doubt that someone like Miller can be really interested in her, so it will take Miller to show her that he really likes her and more and support her to make her dream of being an author come true.

If you want to know how this couple find their HEA you need to read this book ASAP!! And OMG I'm so excited for the next book because i know who is the girl for Greer!!!!

What I liked:

Grady Miller who is a virgin, shocker but good. I adore him. He's a good guy. He wants to fall in love not like the rest of the douches. Miller wanted something real.

What I didn't like:

Scout. I can't elaborate on this one. Sorry.

What I was on the fence:

The plot/twist at the end.

I really enjoy this series but it's time to take a break and switch to a different genre.

I am looking forward to Greer &Stevie's book.

4.5 Star Review Scoring Chance (Carolina Comets #5) by Teagan Hunter

This is the fifth book in the series and was a great addition to the series. This is Grady Miller’s story and I knew that the woman who would bring him to his knees would need to be special and Scout is most certainly that.

Scout own the donut truck that Grady and his teammates frequent. From the first chapter I was hooked on the story that she wove and couldn’t put it down.

Scoring Chance was was a a fun, entertaining read that ticked the boxes for me. I fell hard and fast for Grady, there is so much more to him than being just a professional hockey player. The chemistry sizzles between these two and there were moments were I sighed, moments where I swooned and moments where I just couldn’t help but laugh.

Scout has been burnt in the past and although she has feelings for Grady she doesn’t want to get hurt. I loved how he was there for her, so supportive and caring, totally swoon worthy. Their journey was rocky but what a journey it was.

“I’m sorry I didn’t see you before, but I see you now.”

Scoring Chance is an adorable Romance between a cinnamon roll MMC and the woman he buys donuts from.

AHHH Grady freaking Miller stole the show! 😫
He is a cinnamon roll MMC, and this book is filled with cute and hilarious moments because of his awkwardness!
It was refreshing to read about a virgin MMC, and I appreciated that the topic wasn't that big of a deal. As a result, Miller was pretty inexperienced in dating, and that left for some cute moments between him and Scout! 💗

“I kind of need my hand back, Miller.”
“Right. But here’s the thing—I kind of don’t want to let go.”
“Kind of?”
“More than kind of. I definitely don’t want to let go.”

Scout had some struggles in her life: one of her dads (she has two) passed away, and she's still scarred from her Ex cheating on her. I loved how she slowly opened up to Miller and learned to trust again. I also appreciated the curvy body rep!

Especially the first half of the book was great! But I didn't love the third-act breakup, because it came out of nowhere. The pacing also seemed a little off at times.
This book heavily focuses on the characters, and there's not much of a plot, but I thought it worked here pretty well.

Scoring Chance is drama & angst free and perfect as a palette cleanser!
I am excited for the next book in the series because I need more of grumpy Greer!

This was delightful. I'm sad to be done with the Carolina Comets, but also so glad I ended my read through with Grady and Scout. I really can't believe how much fun his book was.

My biggest issue was the way I felt we were dodging a third act then ran head first into it. I was relieved that the time apart was taken by Scout to work through some of her issues though and then we ended in such a fun way.

In Scoring Chance, we finally get the rookie's story! This book follows the romance between Miller, the rookie we came to love throughout this hockey series, and Scout, the owner of the beloved donut truck. At the end of Sin Bin, Miller put his foot in his mouth with Scout, leading to her giving him the cold shoulder. Miller has no clue that Scout's had a crush on him for the past few years. Miller finally gets the chance to apologize to Scout, and they decide to start spending time together as friends.

BUT that ain't all Miller wants! Miller quickly realizes he wants more with Scout. However, Miller has a secret he wants to tell Scout....he's a virgin! I was ecstatic when I saw Miller would be a virgin in this book because we don't get that often for heroes, and Miller's reasons for still being a virgin were believable. I liked seeing him grow into his sexuality, not being afraid to express his desires with Scout. They were so cute together, and I'm glad we got to know more about Miller and Scout because they were great side characters in the past few books!

TROPES: hockey; virgin hero; cinnamon roll hero; friends to lovers; LGBTQ+ rep (heroine has two dads); found family; low angst

Just okay

Definitely not my favorite in the series, but it was cute. This series has consistently been light and sexy, easy and playful - and this installment is too. It's character-driven, with so much banter and conversation. I was delighted to hear that the flirt on the team actually still has his v-card, and it was refreshing to read about a hero who wanted sex to mean something, despite having plenty of other options available. I liked the chemistry between the characters, and I've been rooting for this couple for awhile now. But... something was just missing. It failed to engage me, and certain aspects felt very rushed. The transition from strangers to friends to lovers was really abrupt, and then it felt like the book was mostly focused on the sexual side of things. And in a very "new adult" way too, with a much younger vibe than the rest of the series. The lackluster ending is what sealed the deal on my 3-star rating though, cementing this as a forgettable read for me.

The story follows Miller (24), a pro hockey player who is known for going on a ton of dates. He may seem like a player, but he's been hiding a secret: he's been so focused on hockey that his v-card is still intact. When a teammate suggests that Miller try to lose it with the cute girl who runs the doughnut stand, Miller knows that's not an option. Not only does he want his first time to mean something, but he also knows that Scout (28) hates him now. After her secret crush failed to recognize her away from the doughnut place, Scout has been avoiding Miller as much as possible. So when he apologizes and seems to genuinely mean it, the two strike up a tentative friendship. It doesn't take long to realize that they have chemistry, so their friendship shifts into more. But Scout still isn't convinced that they're meant to be, and that is sure to cause some trouble down the line.

Despite the fact that I didn't enjoy this as much as I had hoped, it's still very bingeable. The story flies by, and I really liked how much banter was included. I don't always need a plot-driven story to hold my interest, sometimes the chemistry is all I need. And that was a win here. I just wish that it hadn't felt quite so young or fast-paced. Miller is a young guy who has never had a girlfriend and is inexperienced in all ways, so that definitely influenced the vibe. Much of the story focused on his new experiences, and that took away from the emotional connection. Things moved so quickly that we never had a chance to settle into Miller and Scout connecting on a deeper level. I missed that part. And then the ending... well, I didn't love it. It kinda ruined the emotional connection that they had built, and the resolution didn't sit well with me. I still enjoyed being back in this world and wouldn't hesitate to jump back into the series, but this particular installment was mostly a miss for me.

It's Miller time, baby! I've been so excited for the Rookie Miller's book ever since we first met him and his easy charm, and this novel made me love him even more. I loved seeing his vulnerability and his sweet, carefree nature. He was so genuine about everything he did and with everyone he encountered--further proof that Grady Miller is the ultimate, swoony, good guy hero. Unfortunately, I didn't connect as much with Scout. Even though I saw a lot of myself in her, I just did not agree with her choices near the end that caused their separation, and I found myself extremely frustrated with her. Nonetheless, I'm so stoked for the continuation of this series and Greer and Stevie's book next! (I think....)

Tropes: hate-to-love-you, virgin hero, bookish heroine, hockey romance, secret pining, frenemies-to-lovers, cinnamon-roll hero, band of brothers, opposites attract, found family

3.4 stars. This was above a 4 star read for most of it. But the third act breakup was just idiotic. I hated it so much. The woman is just dumb. We get a “I just needed to find myself” explanation for why she lets him go without knowing she loves him but it’s just dumb. It’s like the author relied on her notes for this portion rather than actually putting flesh on those bones.

It was fun in the beginning. We get a virgin hero who is willing to take a second look at a woman he’s seen for a while.

Miller just may become my favorite hockey player in this series!

Scoring Chance is the newest release in the standalone series, Carolina Comets from Teagan Hunter.

If you've read previous books in this series (which you don't have to) then you'll know that Miller is known to be a flirt and quite the playboy.

However, we get a deeper understanding of Miller in this book & it absolutely made me love him more.

Scout is the owner of the donut truck that a good chunk of the team visits on the regular. However, she's been giving Miller some heated stares ever since he didn't recognize her when they were a mutual friend's house.

Scoring Chance is fully character driven with very minimal plot and surprisingly, that didn't bother me one bit. I loved getting to know both Miller & Scout on a deeper level and seeing what made them tick. What I enjoyed even more was watching the growth.

Teagan definitely allowed these two to tell their story and it played out beautifully. Another great story to add to this series.

Scoring Chance is Miller’s book and is an absolutely outstanding, entertaining story!
I have been waiting patiently for his book and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
He’s been this witty character and his story will touch your heart and then some.
He is ridiculously swoony, charming and just an all around wonderful guy. He might be a high profile hockey player but he doesn’t act like he is. Meaning he is down to earth and completely unexpected.
Scout runs the Donut truck and has had a crush on Miller for some time. She ignores him to be quite honest, because she doesn’t feel like he sees her.
Needless to say that couldn’t be further from the truth and when Miller wears her down and attempts to be her friend, lets just say these two are in for a bumpy albeit entertaining ride!
I loved everything about this book. The characters especially. Go 1 click, you won’t be disappointed!
