Welcome to the dark world of Grimm, where the villains are as wicked as their desires.

Aura was always destined to become the Starnight Prince’s bride following her twenty-first birthday. Now that the day has arrived, she looks forward to wedded bliss—and their first night together as husband and wife.

That is, until the savage dragon king from another court steals Aura away before the ceremony.

Hellbent on revenge, the King of Sin has been making careful plans to ruin the Starnight Prince. For years, he used lustful dalliances to battle his rage and bide his time. With Aura in his possession—the key to his vengeance—he’ll use her however he sees fit.

But whenever Aura is near, the King of Sin wants nothing more than to unlock her inner desires, make her crave his touch and long for the pleasure only he can give.

No matter the sin. No matter what is to become of her.

Spindle of Sin is a new take on Sleeping Beauty and the first book in a stand-alone series of spicy dark fairy tale retellings where the villain gets the girl in the end. Each delicious tale can be read in any order and contains fierce females, morally gray males, epic stories, and scorching romance. Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Laura Thalassa, Raven Kennedy, and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

When 2 authors collaborate, it often makes the storytelling capabilities shine, as is the case with Spindle of Sin, the first in their new Once Upon a Wicked Villain series, written by Candace Robinson and Amber R. Duell. I've read and enjoyed their other work in the past, so this was destined to be a must-read series too. Tons of paranormal fun, explicit liaisons and lust, dramatic character connections, and intriguing settings. That's what I've come to expect from Robinson in particular as I've read nearly all her work. When old family curses and grudges bubble deep in the roots and under the surface of this world and all its inhabitants' relationships, the stories are endless. I initially rooted for certain characters but found myself swapping that out for another duo. Royalty and lineage are super important, and family ties really pull at the heartstrings of our protagonists and villains. Death comes for a few, leaving breathless scenes and shocking moments. Thru it all, the authors show that they've woven a tightly knit plot with tons of opportunity for future books in the series. Can't wait to read more.

The H fucked OW basically right in front of the h. Not ok and not safe in my book. This pisses me off because no where in the reviews did someone bother to indicate that and as someone going into this book thinking it’s safe and up to my standards. The H feel gross, with his orgies and fucking his servants. Would not want a walking STD as a MMC.

This was an easy plane read but my god it was so bad. The smut was great don’t get me wrong, but it was so poorly written and I still don’t understand the main plot of the book.

Unexpected surprise loved it

I needed a standalone after a few longer series and had this waiting on my TBR from a subscription. Wish I’d picked it up sooner - so good. Easy binge book that I could have had more of, actually wish it was longer or even a second book to get more character development (although we got plenty with the FMC/MC, the side characters were short changed, I wanted more).
A nice bit of spicy spice, great banter, angst and I enjoyed the spin on the sleeping beauty story. Will definitely check out more by the authors ❤️

This isn't what I expected in a bad way. I really wish it was just an enemies to lovers retelling of Sleeping Beauty. But it was a hot mess with badly written smut and no plot 😭😭😭 I had hopes from other reviews but it's just Wattpad smut and the male lead has a little sister complex. I wanted a high fantasy romance with dragons and magic, maybe it's my fault for having hope.

Oh my gods I loved this so much! I was sold on this series when I saw each book was a dark fairytale retelling. The King of Sin lived up to his name, and I was here for it. I definitely felt for Aura who got caught up in a vengeance plot where she was the only innocent party. Men, amirite? But I enjoyed seeing her channel her rage and start to consider and fight for what she truly wanted. There was all the spice, truly heartbreaking tragedies and the most satisfying vengeance. This is one I will definitely enjoy reading time and again, and I can't wait to see what comes next in this series.

WHERE TO START!? It does NOT disappoint. The villain gets his happily ever after. This story is like Sleeping Beauty with twists and turns. You start putting the pieces together. And boy do those pieces fit really well together. It’s a slow burn but then the spice hits and I was like “LET’S GO!!!!”. You have you’re -Enemies to lovers, dragons, strong female lead, hot, possessive but doesn’t cross the line in that way male. It had me gasping, laughing, tearing up, having moments of “oh no!” And “noooo!”.

Aura and Rush have great chemistry, I even grew fond of the side characters. I mean it starts with some spice in the beginning and honestly-IM here for it-and it’s not strangers who immediately fall in love (nothing wrong with this trope -just wanted to clarify for this story). But the spice later on has the slow burn prior. Aura is raised in an almost sheltered life and in an arranged marriage. She believes the Prince is her Happily Ever After. Until she is kidnapped. King Rush has other plans. His motives align with revenge. And his mouth was the literary death of me because Sir!-yes please(🫠)!

I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be reading it again. I tried to take my time reading it. But I DID NOT want to put it down.

I received this ARC free and leave this review voluntarily.

this was going so well until i started hating the love interest. He was storing his sisters dead body for two years (and essentially trapping her soul in purgatory) in order to bring her back by permanently putting Aura (FMC) to sleep (also in purgatory) for revenge against the prince. Over tome, Aura sleeps more and more (more time in purgatory) and, even though Rush has feelings for her, he still isnt willing to stop the spell. It honestly was giving hes in love with his sister and no other love will compare. He didnt even CONTEMPLATE stopping the spell until the sister begged him to stop, that she didnt want to come back, that she wanted to move on in peace, and that Aura didnt deserve this and should live. That is not. romantic. at. all. He was essentially FORCED (after being begged by his sister to let her soul pass on and Aura begging to live) into breaking the spell, not because he actually wanted to. How is this a love story? I dont want to root for him to be with her, what a horrible person. His love for revenge/his dead sister eclipsed any basic humane rights OR romantic feelings he felt towards Aura.

The writing was good and the idea was so creative but honestly this wasnt romantic. It was tragic. His love for his sister was OTT and was giving more romance than the actual MCs which… ick. He didnt end up choosing Aura because he loves her, he chose her because his sister (who he loves more and in a creepy way) told him to.

Way better than I expected. At first, it was giving porn-without-plot vibes (which you know, nothing wrong with that) but there was plenty of substance as I kept reading. The slow burn was great. Often, enemies to lovers will have the FMC character lusting after the MMC evens when she hates him, but Aura was written better than most. Pretty fun read!

I gave this book 2 stars because I was able to finish reading it, but it was rough. It felt like 2 different books, I think there were 2 authors so if they told me one wrote the first half and the second wrote the ending I would believe you. The first half was just straight smut, every other line, it was very smut heavy with the plot being mentioned every now and then. It was a lot. Then the plot kicked in, and it was interesting-ish. Interesting enough to read til the end. I knew Pax was the sisters secret love interest, but I did not see the plot twist of her being murdered. The pacing of the book was wack, but its an ok read if u just want a quick read that you don’t put a lot of thought into. Also I think 2 different authors wrote it because after about 50% of the way through, the smut kind of dies off. Like its not as aggressive of a plot line, which was good reading wise, but a stark contrast from the beginning of the book. Also bonus points for being a standalone book

2.5⭐

The concept of this storyline was really cool, but it just fell flat. It could have been sooo good, like ACOTAR was with the retelling. (This was a sleeping beauty retelling) But instead it was more of a Wattpad version imo. Maybe less smut would have helped?? (I rarely say that lmao) - though the MMC was literally the king of sin so idk what I was expecting.
It was hard to like Rush and almost impossible to like Aura. She was a two-dimensional character who I never once cared what happened to, and he was over the top and exhausting, I found myself generally angry after his chapters. Like his character actually affected my mood lol.
Again, I loved the idea of it and it had the potential, but it just didn't work for me. Wouldn't read again.

This was so entertaining and swoony, please, and this toed the villain line just enough for the MMC to be a villain, but not verbally/physically abusive (so if you're on the lighter side of dark romance fence like me, this book is for you!).

I loved the banter and the push and pull between the MCs so much, I binged the book in like quarter a day. The hea was so sweet, I wish that it had been longer 😭

TWs - kidnapping (read blurb for that), cheating (not by MMC), sexual assault faced by FMC (not by MMC), murder (cold-blooded murder as well as war based murder), violence

This book was not what I was expecting. It was definitely a different take on sleeping beauty and wasn't expecting some of the language used. It was a good take on the story and glad the real villain got his dues. I'd recommend. Good read overall.

I don’t usually leave reviews for one stars but seeing the reviews for this book, I felt like some explanation is needed.

First, you need to understand that this book was essentially written as an excuse to write erotica in a fantasy world. So if that’s what you’re looking for, you might enjoy it. The characters basically have one thing on their mind and it’s the answer to every problem: sex.

There’s a plot. But it’s secondary to the “romance” plot and really reads as the excuse to write the smut. So basically just “get through the plot so we can get back to the smut.” Again, if that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll probably like this book.

If you want a plot > smut, well thought out characters, and beautifully written prose, don’t bother with this one.

I'm confused. I got lost somewhere between chapter seven and eight. It felt like I was reading two different books and I got lost and could not figure out where the hell I was.

I was hopeful for this book but then it just kinda dropped out and I could not get back into it at all. The plot did not make sense and I even went back a couple chapters to see if I could pick it back up again.

But nope. It was really confusing and this book left me disappointed. I don't think I will be reading anymore from this author.

I knew that this would be "spicy", but it sadly felt that the spice overshadowed the plot, and some of the language just didn't feel as if it fit with the overall fantasy imagery. From the description and even the cover, it just felt like it would be a typical dark fantasy, enemies-to-lovers story.

However, it started to feel a little more like erotica. There was a plot, and it could have been good, especially as it focused on the "villain". But it felt rushed and shallow, especially towards the end. The plot felt sacrificed so more smut could be added.

But it was hard to care about these characters and

If you like smutty stories and unhealthy relationships, then this book might be a book for you.

2 stars because I finished it

First read of 2024! You know me, I am a sucker for a retelling - especially fairytales. I've only read two other Sleeping Beauty ones and saw an ad for this one pop up so I ran to read it and I devoured it!

I loved the spin on the sleeping curse and the twists that I could not figure out until they happened. I also love a good playboy turned good, especially when they don't even want to, expect it, or realize it's happening til the woman throws in their face "oh you don't care about me? when's the last time you fucked someone else?!" and they just deer in the headlights like "well shit". 😂 I know ow/om drama isn't for everyone and there IS quite a bit in the beginning and a bit in the middle but, I promise you it's worth it. Rush's character growth is great to see. I honestly have a soft spot for reformed playboys and love when they will fuck anywhere and everyone except their room and then don't even realize when they bring the fmc to their bed and what it means.

And while Aura doesn't have a lot of character growth herself, we do see her go from naive "stars in the eyes" to fierce wild cat who isn't afraid to stand her ground even if she doesn't know a damn thing about self defense.

It was a bit racier and grittier than I expected for a Sleeping Beauty retelling, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Some of the changes from the original tale were expected: Maleficent is the MMC, he has a different (more convincing) reason for cursing the princess, and Prince Charming (whatever his name is) isn’t her true love. Some of the changes were unexpected but didn’t fundamentally alter the story: the princess isn’t a “true” princess but is the descendant of a deposed monarch; she isn’t cursed as an infant but instead after she meets the MMC for the first time and is kidnapped. However, the changes I’m not a fan of are the addition of her many younger sisters (seemed like an obvious ploy to make sequels where they all get hooked up) and the exclusion of the faeries and their gifts to the princess. I would’ve liked to see more of a cat-and-mouse game with the MCs, where she uses her gifts to try to escape and he uses his smarts to keep her contained, but instead it very much felt like she was trapped, had no control, and he was always one step ahead of her. From his POV we can see that he’s actually feeling very out of control and unsettled by his attraction to her, but it doesn’t really telegraph to her side much if at all, and I don’t prefer a love story where one character feels like they hold no sway or power and is totally helpless.

Book has the kind of romantic male character with way too many flaws that you just hate and can’t see how anyone could fall in love with him. He’s totally okay with taking a woman against her choice and ruining her life by sacrificing her to an endless torture of death/sleep in order to resurrect his sister from death. He has planned this for 2-years yet he gets an epiphany relatively quickly when he realizes this is not a good idea. Duh…. Plus his sister is totally not okay with the idea, go figure. Add to this that he has a known reputation for being a man whore with extensive orgies (yes, he uses women for sex only etc) because he can do anything he wants, he’s the king. The way the book started I was wondering how pornograhic was this book going to get? He even forces Aura (the MFC) to attend his last orgy while he plays with another woman. Ewww. Aura didn’t like this but she’s okay with forgiving him? Yeah, no. At the end the MMC has a complete 180 degree personality change. Falls in love with the woman he’s hated the last 2 years (even though he never met her), regrets what he has done to her, and is no longer interested in orgies or sleeping with another woman. I guess this book is truly what one would call a fantasy.

This book was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

I had the best time getting lost amongst the pages of this book, the mystery element that weaves it way thoroughout the story had me hooked. With dashes of betrayal, secrets, lies and spice this book is just jam packed full of amazing characters and magic.

The character arcs for both Rush and Aura are an absolute pleasure to read. Their push and pull relationship as it develops, full of banter and tension is amazing. You also have a host of other characters thoroughout the book that shine through helping the story to evolve further.

Part of what I found so wonderful about this book is that I forgot while reading that it is a sleeping beauty retelling, it as so fresh and different which I adored.

I found the ending immensely satisfying even though I could of stayed with these characters for a little bit longer.

If you’re looking for a book packed with spice, magic, betrayal, banter, tension and an MMC that calls the FMC ‘’kitten’ then this is for you.

Another great twisted fairy tale read! This one was based on Sleeping Beauty, but with some really unique and dark twists that made it stand out. At first, I wasn’t sure how much plot there would be. The first couple of chapters had me hesitating, but I’m so glad I kept going because it quickly turned into such a compelling and addictive story!

The character development and growth of both Aura and Rush were really well done. I loved watching their layers unravel as they faced their struggles, and their chemistry was undeniable. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic was so much fun, there was plenty of banter, sass, and tension that had me hooked. And the spice was perfection. It was steamy in all the right ways and fit so well with their dynamic.

On top of the romance, the story itself was engaging, with some twists and reveals that kept me on my toes. I saw a couple of them coming, but others took me by surprise, which made the journey even more enjoyable. The darker, more villainous take on the classic fairy tale worked really well, making for an exciting and fresh read. Overall, this was such a fun book with a solid plot, complex characters, and A+ spice. I’ll definitely be checking out the other books in the Once Upon a Wicked Villain series!

“I don’t hate you, kitten. I simply enjoy taunting you.” 😼

I was fortunate to receive an ARC of Spindle of Sin and get ready to hold on tight for a wild magical ride.

In this new take on the Grimm tale of Sleeping Beauty, and first book in the Once Upon a Wicked Villain Series, we meet Aura, the Princess who is to wed the Starnight Prince. Aura is on cloud nine and can’t wait to marry her true love until the dragon king hellbent on revenge, swoops in and steals her away on her wedding day.

Rush, our King of Sin, wants to ruin the Prince and will use Aura against him in order to do so….in anyway he wants 😏. And Oh Boy, the mouth on Rush 🥵 It is quickly worming its way into Aura’s desires.

There are so many secrets and lies happening in this book I want to keep it a surprise 🤫 Will Aura succumb to her deepest desires? Will she escape the King of Sin?

Read Spindle of Sin to find out Available November 30th ❤️

I was lucky enough to receive this extremely dark & spicy reimaging of Sleeping Beauty as an ARC. Best of all, beneath all the spice, the authors managed to give the fairy tale a depth that so many versions lack. This story was a rollercoaster of emotions. It starts with an extra naive yet appropriately feisty FMC and an equally despicable and sexy MMC, but by the end of the tale you’re rooting for a miracle and fighting not to cry. I love a good story that explores what true villainy is and the authors pulled that off well while dishing out extra large doses of spice. There are shifters, magic, and a mystery with more than one twist and turn. I can’t wait to see where this series goes from here.
