Marty Tarantella has been flipping burgers for 15 years. He has no kids, no hobbies, no love interests, and, essentially, no life. But what he does have is a plan to change everything. Years of watching the daily rhythms of the neighboring stores has given Marty the idea for a perfect heist, but when he accidentally steals a supernatural weapon from a cult full of violent lunatics, the resulting Satanic panic will be way above his minimum-wage pay grade. Nothing can prepare you for the coming of Trve Kvlt, a deliciously horrifying and hilarious new series from SCOTT BRYAN WILSON (Batman: Gotham Knights, Pennyworth) and LIANA KANGAS (Star Wars Adventures, She Said Destroy)
Scott Bryan Wilson is the writer of TRVE KVLT and KILL MORE (both IDW Originals) and THE LEFT-HAND PATH and THREE DAYS TO DEATH IS HERE (both Dead Sky), as well as Pennyworth, Batman Annual, and Batman: Gotham Nights (DC), Savage Tales, Elvira, and Altered Carbon: One Life One Death (Dynamite), Star Trek: Waypoint (IDW), Shadowman (Valiant), and many other comic books and short stories.
"You called him a useless piece of s**t? Hell yeah, I did."
This sounded a lot better than it was. Boring with the worst dialogue. The art was decent and the colors were vibrant. Everything else about it sucked.
Some readers thought the dialogue was dull, but there was a lot of set up going on in this first issue. I still liked it, and it gets increasingly funny as it moves along. It all makes more sense as you move on in the series, and I think it’s a hoot.
I had to grab this for the Maria Llovet cover: a perfect hamburger seat for this chaotic, fun story full of weird dialogue and anxiety. Really dig what we got so far and hoping it takes off in the second issue. This is leading somewhere great that was only just mentioned in the last page. But bring it!
Day 163: Not sure how this one is “horror: but Satan butted-in on the last page. I’ve already marked the rest of the mini to read throughout the week, so I’ll stick with it. Maybe it’ll get more horrifying as it goes.
Kind of a mixed bag. Like the orange, but not really sure where the story is going. Pick this one up at comicon, but it seems like this author has a more promising new book coming out and maybe I should’ve waited for that.
