I had pre-ordered this book months back and it finally arrived a couple of days ago. It is absolutely gorgeous. The pictures are magnificent, everything looks delicious and the text is easy to read. I love to see pictures of Dozer. Although I haven't had a chance to go through the book in depth, the instructions seem to be thorough and easy to follow. I love that her recipes are so down-to-earth using ingredients I usually have on hand plus she gives tips on substitute ingredients. I've made quite a few of her recipes that I get via e-mail and they've been delicious. I can't wait to try some of the ones in this book. Even better, the book ended up being $15 cheaper than when I ordered it!
I also forgot to mention that each recipe has a QR code that takes you to a YouTube video of Nagi making the dish. Aren't you impressed somebody my age knows what a QR code is?!
If you don't know about RecipeTin Eats, your taste buds have been missing out. Low-key, her recipes taught me how to cook. I've made tons of her recipes since 2018 and 99% of them were bangers. Her recipes are simple, easy to follow, and TASTY AF. Do yourself a favour and get into this flavour (hehehehehe).
I cannot recommend this cook book highly enough. I wish I could give it ten stars. I’m a terrible cook but can now produce restaurant quality meals. Thanks to Nagi, I’m no longer embarrassed to entertain! You can tell a lot of love has gone into this book, it’s amazing. Beautiful photos, easy to follow instructions, great tips and tricks and most importantly, delicious food. (Chocolate cake and brown butter lemon sauce are two of my favourites.)
Nagi Maehashi not only has given the world a wonderful cookbook, but she has founded an organization to feed the needy in her native Australia. What’s not to love?
The recipes are delicious and — lucky me! — translated into the Imperial pounds, cups, tablespoons and teaspoons rather than the world standard of metric. Nagi — everyone seems to refer to her by first name — has been meticulous in testing and retesting the recipes on her website and in this cookbook. She definitely provides something for everyone.
It has been quite some time since a cookbook came across my lap that I really loved. This one was it! I am adding this to my "to purchase" list. I have never heard of RecipeTin Eats but sure am glad that I found her...and her dog! I knew I would love her when she included a two-page spread on her dog. The recipes are well thought out, easy to execute, and include QR codes that will take you to actual videos of her making the recipes. It was fun to leaf through and see the range of food offered in the book. The pictures were downright mouthwatering too! My family and I are looking forward to trying lots of her recipes.
I've been a huge fan of Nagi's blog since I first discovered it. I've yet to have a failure with any of her recipes.
I am slowly working my way through this book. The recipes I've tried so far are delicious - not that I had any doubts. The recipes are written clearly, concisely, and they all look appealing.
I think I have a new girl crush and have officially joined the RecipeTin Eats cult! XD After seeing how long I would have to wait to get this at the library, I caved and bought it. I'm someone who frequently buys cookbooks, but I haven't had a cookbook inspire me to cook in such a longtime. Nagi's recipes are simple and quick to make but are so full of flavour. Often when I try a new recipe, I leave it for a weekend because learning a new recipe can be a pain during the week - but Nagi's are so easy that I feel confident trying a couple of new ones on a weeknight. I feel I haven't just got a recipe book, but a cooking education - a QR code on each recipes that links to a video showing you how to cook it? Genius! The glossary is filled with detailed notes on ingredients and cooking techniques, she takes the time to tell you why she wants you to cook things a certain way.
The only niggle I have with the book design is for a book with so many recipes in it, it really should have come with a ribbon as a bookmark.
This book is absolutely fantastic. Never have I bought a cookbook where I’ve wanted to cook more than 2 or 3 things. I literally want to cook everything in this book. Nagi never disappoints. ❤️❤️❤️
This is a fantastic cookbook! My son and I made three recipes: Italian Beef Pilaf, Smash Burgers, and Greek Lemon Chicken. All of them were out of this world! They were pretty easy and each recipe has a QR code that links you to a video of how to make each recipe.
This book is a great home-cook-friendly recipe book with one major flaw: the index. I can’t actually believe that the index was user-tested at all, unlike the evidently very thorough testing magi does of all her lovely recipes.
The ‘recipe index’ is just a detailed table of contents of the recipe (main) sections of the book, but at the back of the book. Then the ‘index’ which follows it is just a different way of grouping all the recipes, with the groupings listed alphabetically. Yes, I know many recipe books list items like ‘crispy garlic chicken thighs’ under ‘chicken’ in their index, but they could usually also be found under ‘crispy’. Is it that the publishers thought Nagi’s readers would be put off by more closely spaced columns of print?
The publishing decision totally falls down in places. When it comes to items like ‘beef biryani’ and ‘Italian beef rice pilaf’, they are only found under the ‘rice’ section, and nowhere to be seen under beef. And if I’m trying to find what page ‘chow mein’ is on (one of nagi’s classics), how should I know to look under ‘chicken’ to find it?
I wonder if someone set an arbitrary rule that an item could only fall under one of the predetermined categories.
Whatever it is, it is not an index, and the overall usability of a great book is spoiled. So disappointed because recipetineats.com is my favourite food blog, and a better index would make a much better book. There’s chance for redemption in a second edition!
I'm a huge fan of Nagi's website/blog, and have been eagerly awaiting her first cookbook. Frustratingly, the New Zealand release date keeps getting pushed out so I gave in to my impatience and bought the kindle version.
And it's everything I expected. Her recipes are clear, concise, easy to read and follow, with additional notes to make the cooking experience streamlined. Her recipes ALWAYS WORK (I have had one "failure" out of the hundreds I've cooked), and are tested with a number of variations so you don't need to follow things to the letter. I love love love that her publishers let her have at least one photo per recipe. I'm glad she put some of her more popular recipes from the website in. I can't wait to get stuck in.
Please note: The book is NOT optimised for Kindle / black and white, but it read beautifully on the kindle app on my iPad. I will be buying the physical copy as well, and I imagine there will be food-splattered, dog eared pages, and hand-written notes all over the pages in no time.
Great book filled with doable recipes. I enjoyed the chicken gyros, the sausage meatball pasta, Vietnamese pork and the beef teriyaki bowl recipes. Easy and yummy. There’s also a QR code with a video of how to cook each recipe. I really appreciate this. Goes the extra mile!
Regret buying the e-book. There is no search, no menu, no links, no notes, no highlighting. It’s completely useless as an e-book because these functions are missing. You have to scroll one page at a time if you want to find anything. If you know the page number, which you won’t, you can put that in to go to location, but that’s it. My other recipe e-books are fabulous, but this one is a fail. Nagi’s recipes and photos are amazing. I love her recipes and recommend every one of them, but don’t buy the e-book.
Not planning to make a habit of reviewing cookbooks but Nagi’s work deserves to be the exception. Her pride in getting a recipe perfect before release is paying off. The layout of the book is great, recipes are easy to follow and all result in delicious food! For someone who is fairly hopeless in the kitchen, this book reads my mind! All the tips and hints on which ingredients can be swapped out and leftover care are invaluable. The food photography is on point and most importantly - there a snaps of her gorgeous dog, Dozer. It’s no wonder there is a cult following of Recipetin Eats, there is a recipe for everything and it’s always spot on!
This cookbook is fabulous! Instructions are super clear and even have further help and suggestions for every recipe to insure success. Everything I tried was delicious. I actually might buy it.
I’ve been a long time RecipeTin Eats fan. Nagi’s recipes always work and they’re always delicious. After benefitting from Nagi’s recipes and tips for so long, I was so happy to be able to buy her book and give a little something back. The bonus, for me, is the lovely pics of Nagi and Dozer- there’s no truer love, right! Thanks, Nagi, I’ll be cooking a RecipeTin delight tonight!
This is honestly the best cookbook!! My favourite thing is how she has notes explaining the reasons for things. It’s like a little cooking lesson each time. I have not made a bad recipe from this book and ive cooked about 5 of the recipes so far.
I love the variety. I’ve had longer cookbooks given to me that I flick through and don’t want to cook even 1 recipe where as this book I just want to cook everything.
She has a section on different sauces which I love because when you’re bored of what you’re cooking you can jazz it up with a new sauce. A section on what to do with.. and it will have for example chicken and give you all the different ways to cook it and how (e.g. poach, pan fry etc). There is a little section at the top with recommendations on what to cook with it which I love because sometimes you can look at a recipe and have no idea what goes with it.
I am a 30 year old woman who was not taught anything about cooking growing up and had no one to learn from once I was out in the real world so this book is everything I’ve ever needed and I hope that there are more to come.
I really did not need another cookbook! But I had tried a few of Nagi’s recipes on her website & everything tasted scrumptious. So… I decided to get her book & I’m really glad I did. “Dinner” is a delight to go through to gather ideas for .. dinner. Every page has a full color illustration of the finished dish and every one makes your mouth water. Excellent book, it will be my go-to when I want unbeatable recipes for dinner :-)) PS .. the recipe for ‘Charlie’s’ sauce is worth the price of the book. 😊
Amazing Aussie cookbook with straightforward recipes. All the dishes I've tried making from here so far have been tasty - and the metric + imperial conversions are a blessing amongst a culinary world saturated with imperial measurements.
The recipes themselves are well written, clearly thoroughly tested with helpful guidelines. Also there are cute photos of Nagi's dog Dozer at the end. 10/10 would recommend 👍🍳🇦🇺
Just fabulous. Has a high hit rate of foolproof, tasty recipes, and I've learned so much more about cooking (especially in Australia) since I started using her website. The only better cookbook is RecipeTin Eats: Tonight!
