English Prep #2

All the Little Secrets

Rate this book
English Prep has always been known for housing the most uppity, privileged rich kids in all of Pike Valley. That is what has been driven into my brain since attending the opposing prep academy in the area since middle school.

So, when I am hastily pulled out of Wellington Prep and thrown into English Prep my junior year, it feels like I am being thrown to the wolves.

My plan is to blend in and to remain invisible, so I fly under the radar, staying away from the “in” crowd.

Then, I lock eyes with Ollie Powell.

I learn very quickly that the Powell brothers rule the halls of English Prep in all their prestigious glory. They turn heads with their smug grins and good looks as they parade through the hallways shoulder to shoulder. And although Ollie is the lesser of two evils, he is still the bane of my very existence.

That’s because English Prep isn’t our first run-in.

The first time we met was gritty and dark, shoved deep beneath secrets neither of us want to reveal.

I thought I was being thrown to the wolves the first day I stepped foot in English Prep.

But I was wrong.

There is a much bigger wolf out there, and Ollie might be the only one to slay it in the end.

This was an anticipated read for me, since I loved the first book in this series.
Although it was very well written, I couldn’t be invested in Ollie and Piper’s story. Dnf @ 39%.

After reading All the Little Lies I was excited to read Ollie and Piper's story but now that I finished it I kinda feel disappointed. I think that Piper and Ollie were really good together but the plot in this book felt a bit boring and they only got together after 65% (I think). So, while I was interested in their story the plot couldn't hold my interest and ngl I thought about dnfing this one.

It wasn't as good as All the Little Lies for me but it wasn't that bad either, just a bit boring at times. I'll reconsider my rating after reading the last book in the series but for now 3 ⭐

I’d forgotten all about the winter formal, and I knew no one had asked Piper to go because I had banned every guy in the school from doing so. It wasn’t long ago that I stood in the locker room after our last football game and told them all I’d fuck their mom if they continued to talk about the “hot redhead” that was hanging around Hayley.
That's a gentleman right there.

Y’all.
Ughh I loved this one! Ollie & Piper’s book was everything I wanted it to be!

A ridiculously sweet slow burn that took the time to show how much these two characters connected with each other. Their souls were linked and they recognized themselves in each other from the moment they met (in the dark sharing their secrets 🖤). No OW/OM Drama, no frustrating miscommunications or any of those typical plot devices. Just close knit friendships, family struggles, secret plans, and teens dealing with issues they shouldn’t HAVE to face but are forced to deal with. It was heartwarming and by the time these two truly come together, it was hella satisfying.

I just loved them.

I really enjoyed getting to know Piper and Ollie a little bit in book one. I knew going into this there would be lots of secrets surrounding them. Some were good and some were ehhh.

Piper is the broken girl who doesn't show it. She helps others to make a part of herself feel whole. She's got a great group of friends, but her home life is lacking.
Ollie is the life of the party. Everyone wants to be near him. Girls fall at his feet and guys want to have what he has. Don't let him fool you, behind that carefree smile and attitude lies hurt. Seems to be the only thing that can calm his demons is one sassy red haired beauty.

She thinks she's calling the shots, but he is ready to flip her world upside down. To show her that he sees her... all the broken and beautiful parts.

I’m sorry to say that I didn’t really enjoy this book as much as the first. I just found Piper and Ollie too bland. While a decent read I don’t think anything in the story stuck out for me so whilst an ok it wasn’t a memorable read.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

"Have you ever noticed that the broken ones are always the ones who help others?"

Awwww, you guys!!! Where should I even begin? This book is by far the BEST book I've read this year and definitely my most favorite in the English Prep trilogy. Ollie and Piper's story is super duper sweet and I love that they're both struggling with evil personal demons, leading to a very well-deserved happy ending.

What makes this entire series stand out is the fact that every single book touches upon serious issues we've been facing in reality nowadays. Those elements prompt the readers to feel more deeply about the characters and storylines, especially for a character-driven lover like me, being able to resonate with the protagonists truly elevates the reading experience.

There's no denying that the chemistry and sexual tension between Ollie and Piper are so intense that I'm practically dying here reading/devouring/savoring. I love that aside from all these swoon-worthy moments, the majority of the story also presents the readers with actual DEPTH. I mean, it's not common to read a book that's both STEAMY and IN-DEPTH, right? Well, Sammi (the author) completely changed the stereotype people may have when it comes to New Adult Romance/Enemies-to-lovers trope!

That being said, the main characters here deal with drug abuse, alcohol addiction, problematic family, street racing, juvenile delinquency...just to name a few, further shaping them into the strong and admirable people they are now. All in all, the character development in this book is so on point that it's become the go-to book recommendation from me, so if I happened to kindly ask force you to read it, please don't mind me! To make things better, here's one of my favorite quotes from the beloved Ollie and Piper:

His gaze never left me, but it did narrow. "I do have someone in my corner."
"Who? Did you finally tell Christian about your dad?" He had my full attention now, and just like that, my anger had vanished. I tucked my hair behind my ear and waited with hopeful eyes.
"Nah." He smirked. "I've got you."

Lastly, HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND All the Little Secrets!!!!! Y'all need to read it ASAP because I have a feeling that you're going to ship Ollie and Piper as much as I do. But don't forget that I'm calling dibs on Ollie! *wink*

***Huge thanks to the author for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.***

AHHH OH MY GOD THIS SERIES IS FEEDING MY LOVE LANGUAGE SO WELL

We stayed locked on one another, and I felt so fucking much. My heart was roaring, and the only thing I wanted to do was pull her into me. And I wasn’t sure if I’d ever let her go. — OLLIE

the "acts of service" girlie in my is crying screaming fr i know this was kinda corny and the writing style isnt really as great but its a high school romance so i wasnt really expecting too much!

OLLIE AND PIPER!!! I LOVED THEM SM <3 the way ollie already knew piper more than anyone else even though they so repeatedly claimed they hate each other!!! and i especially loved ollie and his protectiveness and possessiveness towards piper— AHH I NEED MORE OF THEM! i already knew i was gonna love this couple just from their interactions in the first book

“Ollie, I don’t know how I’m ever going to repay you for this.”
”Piper, you repay me by breathing. Now, shut up and enjoy the ride.”

This was so much better than the first one!! It had me hooked the WHOLE time!!

Ollie
Aw, he is very sweet. He said he has two sides and even though here we don't see his jokester side that much, we get to know the other side of him. And I think that was great, cause we had a lot from his façade on the first book. I wanted to hug him the whole time, he just seemed so lost!! I enjoyed his tension with Piper, though...

Piper
My dudes, she has my outmost admiration. How she didn't crumble after like 100 pages idfk, but damn that girl's strong. She just had one thing after the other pilling up and I could literally feel her frustration and anxiety. Once she has a plan (kinda) everything slows down, but it didn't get boring. I enjoyed watching her find her way through every down.

Other people
Christian and Hayley are a lot here and I'm glad. They are such good friends. So is Eric!! This book got me excited for his book, cause the heroine is an anti-heroine!! That's gonna be interesting. Jason... yeah, nope. Didn't like him. Maybe if we saw a real and deep conversation between him and Pipe, I would've warmed up to him, but idk man...

Conflict
Mmm, it was okay. It was more believable than the conflict in the last book. It definitely kept me anxious cause we didn't know a single thing Ollie was planning, but it was good. It was left kind of open, but I'm guessing it's gonna come back on the next book somehow. With Sky and Madeline involved and everything.

Why not 5 stars?
- Like I said, I wanted at least one conversation between Piper and Jason. That scene at the hospital would've been perfect for a moment like that.
- I hated that we didn't see the conversation between Ollie, Christian and their dad. UNFAIR. We needed to see how that went down, not just the aftermath.
- Closure about Tank. If he doesn't come back next book, then I'm gonna be disappointed with his ending cause we didn't get a real final closure.
- I loved Piper and Ollie's relationship, but it kinda felt short for me. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because they took too damn long to start something and then when they did, shit hit the fan. Idk. There was something missing. I wish their hugs brought me more warmth, like I waited for one for sooo long and when they do hug, it felt lacking. The writing wasn't the best there.
- Also, the part where Piper breaks down... was unfulfilling. I expected more there and I'm actually not sure if the scene where she "breaks down" can be considered as such.
- Sometimes, the characters seemed dull and like they were just going through motions.

It may seem like there was a lot I didn't like. And there was, but I still enjoyed it a lot more than the first. The plot and conflict were more believable and the main characters were just better. I liked them way more. This was great and I can't wait for the next!!

This just gets better and better!!!!! When I read Hayley and Christian's book, I knew I had to have Ollie and Piper! And, SJ did not disappoint!

Ollie and Piper both have secrets, they also have a past where some secrets were shared between each other, complete strangers at the time. Piper has a big heart and she's trying to save her brother from trouble. Ollie has this intense pull with Piper, she's gotten herself into some trouble but he's going to save her. Unpredictable, twists and turns, secrets I didn't see coming, I couldn't put it down. Slow burn with a uber protective hero who's guarded but when he loves, he loves with everything he has. I don't want to say too much because I think it would spoil the story. Its definitely a standalone but soooo worth it to read Hayley & Christian in All the Little Lies. These 5 friends would do anything for each other, and I can't wait for Eric's story!!!!!!

“Lies were told, secrets were shared, and truths were revealed” - this book in a nutshell
Don’t let the rating fool you this was an entertaining book BUT in no way will it ever top the first one. I think I just prefer Ollie as a side character. This book got trashier than the first hence the low rating. I also hate the miscommunication trope. But highlight was the addition of street racing into the English prep world. I don’t think I have an interest in reading Eric and Madeline’s story so I guess my journey ends here. But don’t fret I will read Christian and Hayley’s trauma dump again.

Wao wao surprised, I can say that I liked this one more than the first one. OMG Piper and Ollie had an eye-popping tension and explosive sparks, so I wanted to read more scenes of them as a couple. I don't know if I'm very sensitive, but the whole Piper thing, Ollie's worries got on my nerves, I'd like to read a Jason book and see what became of him. But nothing to say, I really enjoyed the story 💕

**ARC received from author, all thoughts are my own.

Friends, lemme tell you about this book! I just finished this one last night and had a little cry for Piper & Ollie. So much heart and heartache in this book and I loved it so much. SJ wrote a beautiful story about helping a loved one through addiction and dealing with the aftermath of finding out a secret about your life that changes everything. Piper & Ollie go through it!! But what I really loved about this one was how they were united through much of the book. It was them against their demons and they helped each other find their way to the other side of grief and heartbreak.

I was very intrigued by Piper & Ollie while reading the first book in this series. It was clear there was something going on there and the outcome was everything I hoped for. I am so excited for Eric and Madeline's book, there is definitely a mystery going on there and I need to know!! This book released today and is available in KU! I also have an excerpt up on my blog, if you want to get hooked like I did!

Lowkey wanted to punch Ollie in the first half of the book bc HOW ARE YOU GONNA SLEEP WITH A GIRL AND CLAIM TO HAVE FEELINGS FOR HER BUT SCREW AROUND WITH OTHER WOMEN AS MONTHS GO BY AND USE WOMEN TO MAKE HER JEALOUS AND THINK THATS OKAY!?!? Ugh Ollie was supposed to be different but he’s just like his brother 😒

Secrets. Secrets. And a little more secrets.

My Oh My!! I couldn't put this one down!! After devouring Christian and Hayley's story I needed to see what Piper and Ollie get up to, especially after that blurb putting me on edge!!

They have history and I'm overtly happy that I predicted it correctly but damn all their other secrets were unexpected and surprising.

Piper and Ollie both have relatively rich families but a lot of family baggage. Add in them both having a bit of a past and their hatred for each other, well it makes for an interesting unfolding of events.

It's hard to want to talk about the book in this review without spoiling anything so I'll be as vague as possible.

Piper gets tied up in some family drama that shouldn't be her business, however it leads her right into Ollie's path. Ollie is protective, he may not know why but he is. So when he sees Piper in a rough situation he doesn't hesitate to hold her hand and help. She may refuse but it's this one moment that dominos their whole relationship and all the other secrets unveiling.

I related quite a bit to Piper, in the sense of her personality being she always has to help others without thinking about herself and she sees that as a fault. She's nice to the core and that niceness does come back to bite her but builds her stronger. Similar lessons that I've had to learn.

Ollie, well he's an enigma just like Christian but a lot softer at heart. He sensitive and a good hearted man. All he wants is to light up the room and not let anyone feel as though they have to handle issues alone, especially Piper.

The chemistry and connection between them two was a lot of fun and angsty to read. You could feel the want and need to be close but the hesitancy. Yet when they finally give in it's beautiful!!

Sammi is absolutely pheneomal and has me hooked back onto high school romances. I've missed this level of drama and romance jam packed into a read. So much so I binged this in 2 days without coming up for air!!

And somehow you have me excited for Eric and Madeline's story. I love reading about a relationship I'd never expect so bring it!

This series has just been so unexpectedly good so far. I keep getting pleasantly surprised.

I'm obsessed with Ollie and Piper. I loved their dynamic, how they both tried to push the other away but couldn't deny their pull towards each other. All the secrets surrounding them made everything so much more interesting and mysterious, discovering new things as their romance started building. Loved their tension and chemistry, and especially loved that it was kind of a slow burn in a way too. They didn't rush into anything and the pacing of their romance was really great.

The spice. THE SPICE. Something I love about this series is that it DOESN'T revolve around smut, but the few spicy scenes are SO. DAMN. GOOD. It makes the few scenes so much better and intense and special than if it happened every other chapter. It's spaced out perfectly, where it doesn't take over the story but still is always an underlying factor. And S.J. Sylvis writes some incredible spice. I had to cool off after her scenes. Let me just say, I will definitely be rereading some of those scenes later, thank you very much.

The storyline with Piper's brother hit way too close to home. Like WAY too close. It was really hard to read about for me, having dealt with something so similar and heartbreaking with my own brother, but I appreciated that such a serious storyline was included in what could've just been a silly romance book. It added depth and high stakes to the story, and didn't feel forced at all.

Even more addicting than the first book, wow!! I might even love it more than I did that one! Piper and Ollie were two very interesting characters and I loved being in their heads. I was excited for their book from their first interaction in this series and was not disappointed, they hooked me in so quick!!

Piper is such a strong, caring soul. She was such a good supportive friend to Hayley in the first book, I would’ve never expected her to have all this stuff going on in her own life too. Same with Ollie and the secret he was dealing with. They’re both so selfless when it comes to the people they care about and it only made me love them both so much more.

The slow burn in this one was like torture for me, I just wanted them together already because it was so obvious they never hated each other!! After learning about that secret night they shared though, I could tell their connection was even deeper than it seemed. I lived for the tension between them!! These two together were hot, but at the same time were so soft and pure. The way Ollie would do literally anything for her, no hesitation whatsoever and she loved him just as much! Ugh, I loved it so much!!

this was a classic example of what happens when parents fuck up basic parenting!

pretty sure 99% of the problems would’ve been solved if
pipers parents sent jason to rehab when he first started doing drugs instead of disowning him and leaving piper at home for days on end by herself.
also it’s quite hard to believe rich kids were having a hard time coming up with 20K to pay jason’s debts.

i loved piper and ollie together, however i felt it lacked depth and their story was VERYYYY dragged out and was quite focused on them solving the debt problems rather than their relationship. the book could’ve finished AT LEAST 40% sooner if it wasn’t so dragged on and on top of all that the end was so anti climactic and there wasn’t much closure on the situation.

there really wasn’t much to it and i was quite disappointed because from the crumbs of them in the first book i was hoping for more :(

Really enjoyed this book, just like the first! Ollie and Piper were great characters and I liked their bond. I liked how much Ollie cared for her, and tried to help her. I do think she made some really stupid decisions, but that’s a me thing.

I would’ve loved to have seen a little more at the end, like Ollie’s conversation with his dad AND Christian. I also don’t remember much about Madeline from the first book, but I’m interested in seeing where this will go with her and Eric! I also liked seeing snippets of Christian and Hayley, and I’m hoping for a longer epilogue once Eric and Madeline’s story gets told!

This was really well written and edited! Something i very much appreciate.

Dual perspective, his and hers. Oh Ollie. I loved him in the first book because you knew there was more to him, brother to the almighty Christian. Piper piqued my interest being the best friend with a big heart in book one. I knew there was some sort of push and pull relationship between them because of how volatile they were with each other. They are lovable characters who make boneheaded decisions and are too stubborn for their own good. I had no idea every character could be so stubborn while trying to keep everyone out of their business, yet still be friends and lovable. Some steam in this book. I feel like this book did a lot of 'a secret for a secret.' You get their backstories in little crumbs, they make you buy in to get the whole story. The version of closure is good and plays well into the series.
