Despite some interesting plot progressions this was not as engaging as the previous six books.
Not even Myrnin could save this one for me :(

Good but not brilliant. This one is a little more sedate and less action packed but it took a worrying element (i.e. Ada) of the previous book and expanded upon it. That's what I like about this series, it flows almost effortlessly like it's one long story rather than episodes. Everything is explained and played out to its natural end.
I instantly took a disliking to Kim, her attitude was inexcusable. I couldn't understand why Eve worshipped her. Kim's media project to expose Morganville was brilliant but I expected her obsession with Shane would lead to an Ada-like attempt on Claire's life, thankfully that didn't happen. We don't need everyone to be jealous of Claire, thinking she's stealing their potential boyfriends. When Myrnin handed over the tape of Shane and Claire and Claire asked whether he had watched it his reaction was suspicious, he may have said no but I wouldn't be surprised if he was lying. Claire is the only person who understands him, his theories and his mental state why wouldn't he be interested in her romantically speaking?
It was inevitable that Michael would be put in the middle of the vampires and the humans or more precisely the Glass House group of friends. I'm not surprised Eve has to decide whether she can handle Michael being different, more than what he was before he became a vampire.
I was a bit unsure of Amelie's motives in changing the status of the group. I can understand making Shane and Eve neutral but not Claire. Claire is an asset to Amelie, Claire saved her life. I would think Amelie would want to keep her close, keep that connection through the bracelet but maybe she sees that as slavery.
I found Amelie and Oliver's relationship intriguing. They are friends but also potential enemies. I like that Oliver repositioned himself as a potential enemy again to snap Amelie out of her suicidal grieving for Sam so that she can return to her duties of overseeing Morganville.
Now that Ada is gone and the magic surrounding Morganville is down, I wonder how things will change...

Mini Review: It’s clear I’m getting a little too old to fully appreciate YA problems – they all just seem so unnecessarily dramatic compared to RL issues I’ve been dealing with. Even so, Morganville books continue to offer me that light escape I crave between all the heavy adult fantasy novels. Compared to the other books in the series, nothing truly earth-shattering happened in Fade Out, but I did like the expansion on vampiric history and politics (to a minor degree). These bite-sized stories always put me in a good mood, and I’m genuinely interested to see where Caine takes it next.

I try to express only my most honest opinion in a spoiler-free way. Unfortunately, there is still always a risk of slight spoilers despite my best efforts. If you feel something in my review is a spoiler please let me know. Thank you.
So for the first time since I started this series, I tried the audio version. I wasn't too impressed with the narrator. She did for the voice of the girls, but guys voices were way to 'frat bro' for me, and not at all how I've seen them so far. But despite that, I still enjoyed this book.
With Bishop finally gone the story took on a slightly less 'imminent death' sort of feel. Which was a needed break in the story. But that doesn't mean this book was boring. It had a lot of character development, especially for Micheal, Eve, Oliver, Amelie, and Myrnin. It left a lot open and left me itching to find out what's next for them.

Cynthia Holloway continues with this series and I’m used to her. She does a good job of keeping the characters with different voices for the most part. I don’t like Myrnin’s voice. It makes him sound as if he looks like a grandpa. But it’s too late to change his voice. I hate when continuing narrators do that.

Where's the cliffhanging, death defying, suspense thriller of a read? After all the crazy vampire war happening in Morganville, book 7 seemed slightly more mellow. Not much a plot, a bit more tidying up the loose ends kind of a read.
Ada's jealousy of Claire finally festers into some crazy homicidal killing attempts. Wow...Super creepy Ada reminds me of an older version of the hologram girl in the Resident Evil movie. Myrnin's mental stability is still a big issue, he's so unpredictable. I absolutely love his character, it's what kept me reading.
Eve is grating on my nerves. Kim is like whatever... Claire's relationship with Shane was put through the ringer, with Claire dealing with some jealousy issues. Talking about issues, Amelie needs some therapy.
A quick mindless read that was quite entertaining. I need to get myself one of those bunny slippers with fangs.

I can’t believe the genius that is Rachel Caine. How it is possible to have so many unique storylines for the same series that will always hook you in, leave you guessing right to the very last page, and never get old, or disappoint in any way, is beyond me. Rachel Caine is simply amazing, and with Fade Out, she’s done it again!
So, with Carpe Corpus, the sixth book in the series, we had the end of the six book long story arc. Knowing how awesome Rachel Caine is, I knew Fade Out would be good, but I had absolutely no idea where she could possibly take the characters of Morganville now. Amelie had given humans equality with vampires, Bishop was dead, everything is just dandy now, surely? What else could possibly happen? Well, I’ve already said Rachel is a genius. I would say Fade Out is the first book of the Morganville Vampires series 2. There is more that can happen, and it’s going to span over more books!
As I said, it feels like two separate series to me, but there is enough of a connection between Carpe Corpus and Fade Out that it’s pretty seamless. It annoys me, but I am unable to talk about this connection – which is not all the characters we’ve come to love and hate, who still show up in Fade Out - without spoiling the story, so you’re just going to have to take my word for it.
Fade Out has the all the action we except from a Morganville Vampire novel, but most of it doesn’t come along until much later in the book. There are a few incidents here and there in the first half, which are big in their own way, but they don’t result in the rollercoaster of action, fighting, fear and danger we’re used to. But this was actually really nice; Claire and her housemates have been through so much in the last six books, it was great to see them going about their lives in a completely normal way – well, as normal as you can get for Morganville. Claire is studying, Eve is acting, Shane is working, and Michael is strumming – all is relatively good. Then Kim shows up, and disrupts Claire’s normalcy, but as a bit of an annoyance, lower than Monica in the list of problems in the grand scheme of things. It was great to have things going well.
But, of course, this is Morganville; the air is never going to smell of daisies forever. Some new characters turn up with less than peace on their mind, Amelie is grieving over Sam’s death, and Kim becomes more than just a minor annoyance. And then everything starts kicking off, and we have our rollercoaster of action, fighting, fear and danger that I mentioned before. I could see how many pages were left in the book, I knew there was going to be more books after this one, but I literally could not see a way out of the situation Claire finds herself in, and I was preparing myself for the worst.
This story is resolved, there is an end. I would say it is possible to read Fade Out as a standalone novel after the first six, but there are a few things in Fade Out that lead you to make guesses about where “series two” will take you. If my inklings are correct, and Rachel’s genius is anything to go by, we’re in for some amazing Morganville goings on! I SO cannot wait for Kiss of Death, the next instalment!

Fade Out, the seventh book in the Morganville Vampires series, is about what's been happening in the city after Carpe Corpus finshed. They've defeated Bishop, they've changed the rules so that humans are more comfortable living with their undead neighbors, and things seem to be back to normal. Claire is no longer a slave to Bishop, and is going to school and living with her parents while still going over to the Glass House whenever she can to see her friends and boyfriend, Shane. Eve has been cast in the town production of Streetcar Named Desire with, coincidentally, Shane's ex-girlfriend Kim. Kim turns out to be crazy and making a documentary of Morganville so she can sell it and make big bucks. The gang has to save the town from Kim and Ada, who has lost it.
This is the worst book in the series. Really, the storyline is done. It ended after Bishop got burnt up. There's really nothing else Caine can do here. She's just stringing it out now. I mean, a crazy computer that's made out of a person who's really a vampire and projects a ghost that's not really a ghost but a pixelated image but it can touch people sometimes and creates magic portals. Seriously, does no one else think that's absurd? The dialogue is tired, the plot is based completely on melodrama, and this series just needs to be put to sleep.

Morganville is in a dangerous state of transition after the last big battle. Humans are getting more of a say, but some are taking advantage of the loosened rules. A new character, Kim, has been recording the stories of vampires for a while and decides to branch out into a new project, one that Claire and her friends are shocked and angry about. Meanwhile, Ada continues to target Claire and is bolder in her attempts to get rid of her.
I'm still enjoying this series very much. Considering all the action and resolution of problems that occurred in the last book, I guess this was a decent installment. Several things happened to move the plot along, though it was much less intense than the last book. I'll be continuing the series because I'm hooked on these quick fun reads.

What can I say about this series that I haven’t mentioned before? It’s awesome, it’s engaging, it’s perfectly casted with four splendid characters, and it’s a series that I want to continue on for quite some time.
Fade Out is the seventh installment of the Morganville Vampire series where in this town, humans are the minority and vampires call the shots. Claire, Eve, Shane and Michael are part of the Glass House and have banned together to keep each other safe from evil doers. However, when someone threatens the safety and secrecy of the town of Morganville, Michael must make a choice between what’s right for his friends and what’s expected of him by his fellow vampires. To add to the mayhem, a new set of vamps are roaming the town with hidden agendas, and Amelie is losing her alliances as Oliver makes a move to capture the top seat in Morganville. As the story closes, Eve and Shane make a deal that might just cost them more than they are willing to sacrifice.
It’s an installment filled with signature series action and a cliff hanger leaving you thirsty for blood... errrr I meant more... I meant leaving you thirsty for more… really! This book was great because we see the exit of a character (if you can really call her that) who I didn’t really care for. Yay! And some funny moments and props (ahem ahem bunny slippers... and bunny slippers with fangs LMAO!) that only Myrnin can pull off. The interaction between Shane and Claire was heartfelt and I enjoyed seeing their relationship strengthen. Very well done!

After all the closure in the previous book in the series, Carpe Corpus, I was curious as to where Caine was going to go in this entry. I kept on wondering for over half the book since there didn't seem to be any REAL conflict besides a couple little squabbles here and there. At the time, I found myself hooked - because I love the series - but not devouring the book because there just wasn't that much going on.
Then things started taking shape and I gobbled up the second half in no time. There are a lot of new plot threads established in the second half for future books... lots of little mysteries/Oh-No-What-Is-Going-To-Happen-Now-isms and a couple big ones too. I can't wait for the next book - a year from now?! Let the suffering begin... :)
There was loads of Myrnin in this book, to my heart's delight. I do love Claire, but Myrnin is a favorite. There was more background provided on Amelie and Oliver which was nice because I've always liked Oliver even though he's not necessarily a good guy, but then again, he's not all bad either. No straight black and white in this series.

Rachel Caine should have stopped at book 6. It had a good ending and the series would have been able to rest in peace. But I will give her credit where credit is due, because I care enough about Michael Glass to keep reading, so well played Ms. Caine.
The only good person left in this series is Michael Glass. He is always their for everyone, vampire and human, and even though his situation sucks he still does the right thing every time. Eve is a bitch, Claire is useless, and Shane is an ass. The rest of the vampires are either evil or bat crap crazy. I was furious with how everyone including Michael's "friends" treated him in this book. He's a vampire, his life style had to change. GET OVER IT. He still backs up the humans at every turn, even when it puts his own life in jeopardy. He's still a good guy like his grandfather and vampire Sam Glass was. It also pisses me off that the humans are all still "oh i know this person did x,y,z but they are still human so we can't kill them or let the vamps handle it". No, wrong. You know what that is? RACIST. If it had been a vamp doing x,y,z they would be calling for their death. I'd say it's the same thing reversed with the vamps, but it's not. The vamps practically kill each other on a whim, I see no reason not to hand over ACTUAL CRIMINALS to them for handling.

How much do I hate Kim?
Seriously, I don't condone murder, except in books when there are annoying characters. (And Kim is the most annoying!)

I get why Claire was so worried about the Kim situation and I felt like Shane could have handled things a little better, but I am glad that the author never made a big deal out of it. By the end of the series, I wonder if people will learn about the existence of vampires. Maybe things will get out. It will be interesting to see what new problems arise. I mean its Morganville. There is always going to be some problem.

This book took a little more time for me to get into than the previous instalments. Carpe Corpus resolved all the major plotlines, and this book began without an obvious direction or purpose. As the novel progressed, it became clear that Caine was picking at a thread introduced in the previous book (Ava the AI), and had decided to weave a new story based on that. I enjoyed the plot, even though it read a little like a B movie, Somehow, these strange elements worked well together, and the story was well-written and delightfully entertaining.

This book was an interesting change from the previous books in the series. After book six, it seemed like the main arc was finished, so I wondered what would happen. The story focused a bit more on humans doing bad things and I liked the flip. There are plenty of bad people out there and humans will turn on each other. We also saw Amalie be a bit vulnerable and sad, making her more relatable. The story played out well and had good pacing. I love seeing Claire and Shane's relationship grow, as well as her friendship with Eve and Michael. The plot was pretty self contained, so we'll see what happens in the next book!

Fade Out is the seventh book in the Morganville Vampire series. Continuing on where the sixth left off this is a rebuilding time for Morganville. Bishop is no longer around, Amelie is grieving, some new rogue vampires are introduced and an old flame of Shane's shows up in town.
Not one of my favorites of the series by any means. I'd say the theme to this book was jealousy, not very intriguing really. The action slowed down quite a bit and what there was seemed a little predictable. Hopefully the story picks back up in the next book.

Moved from a 4 star to a 3 star. This was great, loved the characters as I do every time.. but nothing seemed to happen? I read it in pretty much one sitting and it went by in sort of a blur?

Okay so: Claire is unbearable through most of Fade Out due to her jealousy and insecurity and Eve suddenly has trouble with Michael being a vampire is super inconsiderate to him about it. So there's relationship drama that's dumb and serves no purpose \o/
The plot is really good, though? We get more of Ada and the resolution of her arc, which is really cool and action packed and also super sad. And we get Kim and her idea of making big in Hollywood and how she goes about it, which is probably one of my favorite arcs in the series so far. It's such an intriguing concept and well executed, expect for how rushed the ending is, and I wish it would've gone on for more than just one novel.

I kind of wish this series had ended with the last book. At the end of that one, Claire and Shane were in love, the evil vamps had been defeated, things were going to change in Morganville and all seemed well. It really was a good ending.
But this one picks up a few months later and it's just odd. Claire is being pursued by a hundreds of years old steampunk vampire/computer machine that wants her dead and keeps attacking her. It's just almost too weird.
Then there is a video voyeur who has disappeared after making some very private tapes of Claire and her friends as well as other private meetings and various locations. The friends have to track her down, not only to stop her from releasing the tapes, but also to save the town because if word gets out, all of Morganville will be destroyed. This sounds good and following the clues is interesting, but this plot kind of fizzles, other than leading Shane, Eve and Claire forced into making a life or death deal with some wild vampires.
This one definitely isn't my favorite.

Love, love, love this book!!! It was exciting, dark, funny, capitaviting and sexy.
I love the world of Morganville that Rachel Caine has created, her books are so well written and this installment didn't let me down. A new plot that was action packed and full of suprises.
The are so many amazing characters in this book. Even the evil ones I enjoy reading about. I love Shane and Claire's realtionship, they are one of my favourite couples because it seems more realistic then some other novels and also because Shane is so yummy! Myrinn was a standout again and I couldn't wait to read the parts he was in and try to imagine in his crazy clothes like bunny slippers with fangs (I want a pair!). He never fails to make laugh.
I could go on and on about how incredible this book is and this series but I couldn't do it justice. Amazing! Read this series!

I really enjoyed this one, but I think the last one or two were better.
I know it’s crazy considering Myrnin is probably 1,000 years old or so, but I really wish he and Claire would get together. Don’t give me that look, we read books with 500+ year old Fae and 20 year old ladies. Myrnin is just a phenomenal character. I love every aspect of him.
This installment was a little less chaotic in the sense that it wasn’t the whole town involved in the shenanigans. Mostly just Ada trying to kill Claire, Myrnin refusing to believe it, and Oliver trying to wrest control from Amelie. Some things never change. Michael and Eve have their first real “fight” because - spoiler (not really) - Michael is a vampire and because of that he is concerned about general vampire welfare. Insert all of the eye rolls. You can’t date a vampire and make him not be one.
Eve makes a new friend who has her eye on Shane much to Claire’s disapproval. Oh, that’s because Shane and Kim previously hooked up. But… maybe Kim isn’t exactly the kind of friend you’d want to have. And it seems a group of at least one vampire and one human but possibly more are trying to spill Morganville’s secret to the outside world, which of course would have very deadly consequences.

“I just went to work for a vampire, was scared by a spider, and got knocked down by a tanning bomb. And that’s just my day, not my week.”
Fade Out was kind of a boring. Like really boring. But it was also a super quick read for me. Pretty much blazed through this boringness while listening to an audio for a different book.
I didn't really care about the story line or who the villain was. Or should I say...villains? Either way I didn't care about any of them. I just knew I either hated a character or liked them. This book was just kind of there for me.
Really more "Meh" than anything else. I hope the next book is more exciting?

It was a good installment in the series. I don't think it had the dynamic effect the previous book had, but it was still solid and interesting. The enemy in this story line wasn't as loathsome as Bishop. I still enjoy the tensions of the characters as they try to maintain their relationships and solve town issues.

It's Morganville, so the gang knew not to trust things to stay calm, but they sure hoped it would. Everyone but Claire seems to think the "new" girl Kim is great, but Claire isn't so sure. When Kim goes missing, the gang sets out to find her, but quickly find out she really wasn't who she seemed. She's violated the trust of the entire town by creating a video project exposing the deepest secrets of Morganville. It's up to Claire and the others to find her before the vamps do as its not just her life on the line, but potentially every human in Morganville if things go badly. Once again the fate of everything seems to rest on their shoulders as disaster is around every corner.
I just knew there was something fishy about the new girl in the picture, Kim. Claire has such a hard time disliking anyone. Even after all Monica has done to her in the past, Claire still has continued to save her over and over. So, when Claire felt such a strong animosity towards Kim, it really had to be much more than just simple jealously. Granted, the girl did seem to captivate most of Eve's attention and she has a "history" with Shane, which would make any normal person insanely jealous. However, Claire has never been normal, and she feels the need to save everyone, so it couldn't be just simple jealous to cause her to react so strongly.
As if the videos and risk of exposure wasn't enough, Ada the super computer that runs Morganville has gone psychotic and homicidal towards Claire. It really is a recipe for disaster when a sentient computer with limitless powers goes on a vendetta. The twisted relationship between Ada and Myrnin comes to a head since Ada is convinced Claire is trying to steal him away. I do feel bad for Ada, but not enough to choose her over Claire. They say love is blind, and it must be true for Myrnin as he refused to see the problem with Ada.
The action was dialed down a notch, which allowed for a lot more emotion and relationship development. I found it to be more of a transition book, which is okay after the 6 previous books being nonstop action. I actually think the time the two couples got to spend with each other was necessary and added even more depth to the characters. I definitely enjoyed the "downtime" while it lasted but I'm holding my breath for the next book as I'm sure things are going to majorly take off again. So, overall a good book, less action, but it had it's strengths in other way, and makes me eager for the next one.

10/17/15: Rereading!!!
In this seventh installment, things are looking up for our friends in Morganville. Bishop's gone. Michael's got a major gig and the possibility of a record deal. Eve's been cast in the town play and picked up a new friend, Kim. Shane's finally got himself a job and no one has put him in the hospital recently. And Claire...well, she's got an awful sunburn and is being used as a pawn in another game of power.
After the nicely wrapped up ending of Carpe Corpus I was curious where the series would go. With Bishop no longer around to take over, it's the resident vampires who try to claim control. They see Amelie as weak, and want to take Morganville from her. If that happens, it'll no longer be a town where vampires and humans live in relative harmony. Of course Claire can't let that happen!
My favorite thing about these books are that they're short. Not that I don't always want more, but there's nothing superfluous that slows down the story. It makes it super easy to get lost in the book and there's always something happening to Claire and Co. However, this is also makes it obvious that any new character must be up to something, as is the case for Kim. Of course I was suspicious of her from the very beginning, but I was shocked to find out what she was really doing in Morganville.
This is probably my favorite of the books so far. It's not the most action packed, but it had plenty to keep me entertained. There's more Mrynin, which is always awesome. Plus there's more Ada, and she has seriously lost her mind! After that ending I cannot wait to get my hands on Kiss of Death. Things are certainly changing in Morganville!

Disclaimer: I just re-read this book, and when I marked it as finished the review I wrote was marked as newly published. If you're interested in hearing my thoughts from about a decade ago, feel free to read on.
This has probably been one of my favorite Morganville vampires books, with the exception of Oliver. He's always been one of my favorite characters (Okay, maybe not in the first book.) and I don't like the direction he, or Amelie, for that matter, seems to be going in. But besides that...
Myrnin! Wow! He's finally not (very) crazy, so we get lots more real character development, rather than the dumb attention getting stunts he used to pull that seemed to pass for a personality. Now we have an actual person, and he's kinda likable :) Even if he does keep pet spiders.
And damn, does Monica surprise me in this book. I mean, really, from Monica, anything besides psycho slut is shocking, but this was almost... nice? *Jaw drops*
Very good pacing, with LOTS of action jammed in amongst the revelations about how certain characters handle (or don't handle) trauma and loss. A more introspective book than the rest, in the sense that it shows you the internal shortcomings and strengths of the town, revealing some of the politics that have previously been a mystery, rather than telling the story of Morganville v. Outsiders, or Vamps v. Humans, like it has been for the past six books, it's more of a Morganville v. Itself, and NOT in a Civil War kinda way.
