The Savage Wars never ended.

As Kill Team Victory and General Chhun take control of the cities on Kima, a war every bit as spiritual as it is physical rages in the deepest parts of galaxy’s edge. The Legion, and the Republic military at large, struggle to deal with a sudden multitude of planetary invasions and uprisings -- with rumors of mysterious ships breaking the peace achieved by Article Nineteen.

Meanwhile Captain Aeson Keel continues his search for Prisma, aided by friends from both his past and present. But only mankind’s oldest ally can hold back the tide of ultimate destruction. For an unknown darkness is closing in, and the Republic once again stands on the threshold of galactic war.

This series is getting a little fusing and this book seems to be a lot confusing. I'm not sure what the Prologue was about nor the 1st chapter. When we finally reached the 131st Legion, that got me clued in on what was going on. The 131st Legion is commanded by General Chhun who stepped down as Legion Commander so he could get into the actual fighting. Now his Legion is on Kima fighting a resurgent MCR (Mid-Core Rebellion) army. The MCR has paired with the native Kimbrin to expel any Republic presence which is represented by the Legion. General Chhun isn't going to let that happen, but he now feels that something else is going on.

He feels that way because he's getting reliable reports about Donks now on Kima and more recently, the Gomarii are now involved in the fighting. The Gomarii are slave traders and he doesn't quite understand why they are fighting instead of just capturing Kimbrins for their slave trade. Still, regardless of who they are fighting, General Chhun is vowing to get them off the planet and restore Kima to Republic control.

One of the people his Legionnaires have been highly interested in finding is Master Sergeant Masters. He's a Dark Ops Legionnaire that got separated from his team when all this fighting started. He's been roaming around by himself for quite awhile and hasn't been able to make contact with this former team. Yet he has made contact with the Legion and they are seeking him out. They hope to find Masters alive but that's not a given.

Then we swing over the Captain Keel to find out what he's doing. He and his crew aboard the Indelible VI are currently searching for Prisma Maydoon. With him are Leenah, Makaffie and Wild Man as well as Skrizz. Garrett is also here although his recovering some some pretty serious injuries. They have a lock on a downed scout ship that was supposed to have contained Prisma and her mother, Reina. Keel directs Leenah to set his ship down near the wrecked scout ship which she does. Keel was planning on just going out to inspect the scout ship, but his whole crew insist they go along too. Unfortunately, they are not the only ones around the downed scout ship. Supposed Nether Ops Legionnaires are there too and they have orders to bring Captain Keel and his crew in. They are almost to the point of doing that when the mysterious Ravi shows up! Can he get Captain Keel and his people out of this predicament?

Now we focus on Prisma who was no where near the crashed scout ship. She and her Mother had been picked up by the minions of the Golden King! Now this is where everything is getting confusing. Who is this guy? I mean, it's explained that he's a Savage and maybe the leader of the Savages, but I've not read any of the books on the Savage Wars. Anyway, he's almost mystical with mystical powers, but I don't have a clue as to why he has to have Prisma other than her supposed Mother, Relina wants her by her side. I think the Golden King is going to try and conquer the galaxy, but I'm not sure who he's going to used to do that since most all the other Savages have been killed by now.

This book goes from one place to the next, but I was hoping to read about more Legionnaire fighting. That's not happening. Back in the days when Chhun was a Sergeant and very suspicious of the Kublars, there was fighting all the time and that I understood. All this other stuff is getting a little strange and, for me, it's hard to follow.

Uh, oh, it looks like I've really messed up this series. I went back to Amazon and looked at how they have these books numbered and I've kind of missed some. Book 5, "Imperator" is new to me, guess I'll have to go back and read that. And I also apparently just skipped Book 16, "Last Contact". Man, I hate doing that. Could be why I'm confused with this book. Oh, well, I've got more reading to do. But for you who are caught up, Book 18, "KTF - Part Two" is up for pre-order and should be available on/about 15 Dec 2022.

In KTF Part 1, everything clicks into place. The intricate timelines, shifting dimensions, varied personalities, and strategies all start to make sense as the final battle approaches. Our beloved characters are aligning under the general’s master plan to defeat the savages, with Kill Team Ice, Victory, and Zombie taking center stage. Along the way, we lose some key figures, but with all secrets now out in the open, the stakes have never been higher. Earth holds the crucial piece to the puzzle.

Listened to as an audiobook on Audible.

So much has become clear! lots to process.

Timelines, dimensions, personalities, strategies, and more are suddenly clear as day and the final fight is here. All of our favorite characters are getting closer to uniting under the general’s final plan to stop the savages.

Kill Team Ice, Victory, and Zombie are at the forefront and we lose some good people as every thing finally revealed.

And earth is the key.

Brilliant

Despite my general dislike for Leenah, Prisma and the usual love/affection nonsense, I'm giving this five stars.

It's a Rollercoaster ride bringing together so many characters, revealing plenty of lore, leaving us with more mysteries and finally ramping up the stakes.

The action isn't a frenetic and encompassing as precious installments, but that is all fine, the sheer amount of information revealed makes up for it. The next book can't come fast enough.

I think I missed book 16 [edit: evidently 14-15 as well] so there was a bit in here that seemed to come out of nowhere, but at this point I consider myself caught up. Lots of moving parts here, but it all begins to come together. Next step appears to be the Gotterdammerung that this series has been building toward, and it's not a sure thing who will live through it. Or who will actually stay dead...

3.5/5 - audiobook

The beginning and ending of the book are prime Legion/military content I’ve been missing from this series in season 2. But the middle undeniably drags on and on, focusing on some fantastical realm that isn’t entertaining nor adds to the main storyline.

Then the audiobook tricks you by having 90 minutes of “bonus features”, so the book is even shorter than you thought.

Started at a 4.75 and dropped to 3.5 for me.

Sweet Relief

I have been with GE since the beginning and with each book I always looked forward to the next. KTF I, is on par with the others with answering questions and leaving you wanting more. Coming full circle and setting everything up for the GRAND finally! My heart breaks a little for this journey to end but all good things come to an end. Semper Fi my Leejs!

This is the five-star rating system I use:

★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will).
★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this.
★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad.
★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time?
★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.

If for whatever reason, I go back and reread a good book, I will change the rating to five-star because I read it again.

Missing a bit of the military action I love about the series, but I love world building and the fantasy aspects of the story too. Happy to see a mix of both in one book as opposed to the story focusing on one or the other. *Grain of salt: I enjoy switching POV a lot and keeping track of tons of storylines including some chapters just for fun. All of which happen in this book.

brace yourself this is big

Great coalition of every story so far setting up for a big climax in book 2
Thankfully there is a who’s who at the start to remind you who many of the great characters from previous stories are.

Hope you red the savage wars trilogy first.

I’ve been pretty critical of GE Season 2 (as an old Season 1 Book 1 fan), but I can’t lie.

This one was excellent.

The tension throughout was solid and it really felt like a coherent, fun reading experience. 10/10 would recommend.

Book 17

Good read a bit to much philosophy for me but I guess it was necessary for the story to continue.

Fells cheap to release the book in two parts when this book is just half the length of the series’s other books. But still it was as good as the other’s.

savage action!

The savages are returning!!! It’s all very exciting but I am also confused as to what they did to imprison the dark ones! The golden kind seems pretty cool.
