The best thing about this series is how the heroine both has a brain and uses it. Rishe's a problem solver, and damned if she's going to live her seventh life without having learned things from the previous six.

Rishe is a lovable character. She’s in top form in this volume, though her willful cluelessness and ability to pull solutions out of a hat do wear thin at times.

Loved the book. Glad I read it. I recommend it. But let’s be honest, Rishe is as dumb as she is clever. Her personality is outright charming, but the author plays loose with what she knows and doesn’t know depending on the plot. Let’s take the most egregious example without spoiling anything. The way she resolves the final conflict required future knowledge beyond her five year windows. There’s a difference between knowing what chemicals cause what colors, and launching them into the sky.

Despite the occasional overly convenient resolutions here and there, the interplay between Rishe and Prince Arnold is delightfully done; we learn a bit more about the darkness that drives his future; we see Rishe pull off outlandish schemes one after another; and we see the potential for a future diverted while being treated to Rishe’s rollercoaster of emotion. None of it is realistic, but it’s entertaining. I was sad when the book came to a close.

The bonus story is catnip for romance fans. It’s a charming little story about Rishe and Arnold waiting in line. I thought the author had a lot more fun with these characters than in the previous volume. I look forward to more.

I have one critique of this book, and I will own that it is very nit-picky. Gunpowder. How do you name something 'gunpowder' when guns don't exist yet? What even is a 'gun' in this context? Black powder would have made more sense. And again, I do realize that the word gunpowder was used for convenience since we all understand what it is and what it's purpose is. My inner history nerd just freaks out over these things. This is also the reason no one in my family likes to watch historical movies with me.

As usual, Arnold and Rishe, their interaction is so cute. It's lovely to see their development towards each other, it's subtle but it's there. Same goes with the interaction between Rishe and other supporting characters like Prince Theodore and the guards. Especially love to see the bonus scene, they're so cute when they teased each other

This volume ventures more to other continents/countries! it was interesting to see different princes and his entourages, their different culture as well!

I’ve learned a lot about good tradings and also the importance of inventions back then… making me realise how easy we have it now…

all in all, i was kicking my feet especially at the last few chapters because THE SLOW BURN WAS BURNING!

It was just okay basically Rishe disguises herself as a knight to learn how her fiancee Arnold trains his army (cause in the future he is a bad dude ) In this book you see the beginnings of his temperament aka leanings. Honestly I would have left knowing the man thought like that . She has survived alone without him in most of her lives. She is trying to change the future . Arnold is a cold fish that you see glimmers of what he can be. All in all I’m not sure I want to continue with this storyline. I can see this dragged on in so many books and at 25 dollars a pop that gets expensive. I do love the artwork and I do like Rishe. If the book stayed on Rishe’s lifetime adventures that would b interesting. Staying on Arnold not so much.

The urge to drop everything else to read vol 3 is so strong.

You know what? I just might.

The best part of this series is how capable Rishe is. She has amassed tons of knowledge over her past lives and puts it to use! Girly gets shit done.

AND Arnold shows his jealousy every now and then and it's a delight. The man is a walking ellipses haha.

Content: Rishe recovering from kidnapping, sparring with Arnold, town date, moves Arnold in next door, fireflies, cross dresses for cadet training, Prince Kyle (glaring Arnold) and Professor Michel, fireworks, ENGAGEMENT RING.

(4.5/5) the prince is one big question mark. and his brother? he just wants to be noticed by big bro, but that idiot thinks it's better to live detached 😑 and rishe is just so refreshing to read about. i mean she’s actively doing something to stop stuff from happening! aka she’s using her brains :D

slightly less interesting than the volume 1 but still good, that ending was so good, Rishe & Arnold’s chemistry and banter is amazing. I’m hooked!

It's both super cute and has a great plot! And the afterword made me crack up: 'At the end of this volume, the hero, Arnold, finally arrived at about a 3 out of 10 on the "expressing emotions" scale to Rishe.' 🤣

The 2nd volume started strong but got weak later on. I'm not too fond of the characters in this volume's spotlight, especially Michel is iffy imo. Why are characters in a medieval-themed light novel talking like social media influencers? All the talk of self-love, trauma, ethics, and purpose put me off.

I found this volume disappointing, so I'll drop the series and not recommend it.

"She wanted to change the world, to squeeze out even one more second of life than her last. Her ultimate goal was to sleep a solid ten hours every night, read books in the morning shade, and enjoy tea in the afternoon. She imagined the bliss of reclining in a hammock on her balcony at night, eating fresh fruit while her hair dried from the bath." Lol - oh Rishe. So observant, so oblivious. First Arnold, then Fritz, then foreign royals and academics, she's unknowingly endearing herself and stealing hearts as she tries to avert the war she keeps dying in.

This has been a ridiculously fun and cute series so far. There's no huge angst, just fast-paced storytelling with funny or sweet resolutions. This series is the perfect pick me up when you just want something light and entertaining after a long day at work. The one-shot after the main story is hilarious, giving readers more Riche-Arnold interaction.

I'd thought this one might feel somewhat repetitive/slow, since I'd just finished the manga volumes that cover everything up through this arc. But even though I absolutely love the visuals in the manga, I think the novels might be my favorite format? If so, that's good news, because I've finished all the manga that's out so far, and I have a few more volumes of the novels left to go...

The main reason is something I've noticed in other novel/manga pairings: scenes or lines that don't entirely make sense in the manga have a lot more textual context that got left out in the need for space. And sometimes the bits left behind were really important.

For instance, when Rishe is talking to Prince Kyle about the idea of putting your life on the line for someone, being willing to die for your king/country/etc, I didn't really understand the manga's "when you die, the people you saved keep living." Isn't that...the point? That's why you sacrificed yourself for them. But in the full conversation, she explains that throwing yourself on a sword just to get someone through a single dangerous encounter doesn't guarantee they'll be safe forever. Because they'll keep living, and facing additional hazards, and shouldn't you fight with every atom of your being to stay alive with them, to keep protecting them?

Her example - in her own memories, of course not verbally expressed to Kyle - is from her previous life as a knight, when she died at Arnold's hands to ensure her royal charges were able to escape. But she doesn't know what happened to them after. Did Arnold chase down the carriage and catch them there? Were they cut down or betrayed after they'd reached the next town, or allied territory they'd thought was safe? If Rishe had been able to find a way to escape with them, she could've stayed through those additional points in their journey, continuing to watch over and fight for them.

She doesn't regret her past lives, but she does learn something new in each of them. And in this case, she was able to convince Kyle that his life is absolutely worth living. He's not just a sickly sacrificial prince whose destiny is to burn out to make way for his new sibling. He has so much to give to the world, if he keeps fighting.

And Kyle, even more so in the novel, is an absolutely exceptional character. It's interesting to me, actually, that Rishe's 7th life appears to be the first one where she's ever formed a romantic interest in anyone. She'd spent a lot of time with handsome, charming men, like Tully. But Kyle, whom she spent significant time with in at least three of her previous lives - as merchant, apothecary, and alchemist - is so special to her. He's kind and intelligent and brave and chivalrous - and playful and funny, too, particularly in that third life.

After she watched him waste away in her first life, she dedicated herself to learning medicine in the next, so she could help to save him - again and again, in each of her subsequent lives. But at no point has she ever felt the absolutely searing chemistry she has with Arnold. It's something about fate, I guess, leading her to meet so many people who are so important to her, and then finally encountering the man who'd destroyed all those lives...and who means so much more to her than she could've ever imagined.

Most of this is shown well in the manga, of course, but there were a couple of other things I thought were more effectively handled here. One was Michel, who was way too put together and charming in the anime and manga. He's a disaster! He is an incredibly weird oddball of a scientist who just happens to have a beautiful face! He gets so wrapped up in his research he forgets to eat or clean and will bicker with Kyle like a child! He has absolutely no sense of social propriety at all.

He's delightful, and I felt so much more of Rishe's affection and heartache at having parted ways with him on pretty bad terms in her past life. She couldn't understand or sway him then, but she's learned more since then, and now they can carry on more of that weird little family dynamic that she'd enjoyed so much before.

The other one is Fritz, Rishe's best friend during the knight-in-training sessions. There's a lot more depth to that training in general, with another trainee, Sven, starting out as an antagonist who learns how to be a proper knight and a friend. Fritz, though, for the vast majority of this novel, really, really felt like he'd been Mulan'd by Rishe, with a pretty substantial bisexual awakening. I loved this and was a little annoyed that it got explained away in the final chapter as him thinking "Lu" was simply younger than the rest of them, sneaking into the training before he was strictly allowed to be there. Let a guy be bi, c'mon.

Regardless, I do very much hope that he appears in later volumes, as he becomes a full-fledged knight whom I assume will become very loyal to Rishe.

I loved all of those scenes, though, with Rishe feeling such a deep responsibility to these men she will not, in this lifetime, march into battle alongside. As a royal, she would simply be sitting at home in comfort, watching them die on battlefields to keep her safe. And she cares about all of them, in the way Lord Lawvine (who lost his son in battle) does. She doesn't want to see them lose their lives in pointless warfare. She's fighting to protect so many people.

Lawvine, by the way, felt less ominous in this format than he had in the manga? I still don't really know his deal with Arnold and the Emperor, but I get the sense that he was just standing against pointless slaughter. So in all the timelines where it reached a point with Arnold executing him, I'm not sure Lawvine could've been the one at fault. But I suppose we'll see.

On to the next one, to find out more about what the whole church plot is about!

This needs to be read by many people but the slow burn is just✋✋😳THE ANIME ADAPTATION ENDS WITH BOOK TWO😢😢😢

my love for Rishe has only grown with this second book, she's too adorable♡.
The male lead, who I was worried would end up a drab mopey cardboard cut-out, has a more subtle personality that shines at the most opportune times and girl his fine as hell✋👀

The world of the story is fascinating, from trading routes to political strife, and the way the characters live within the story feels authentic. I love the characters, I love their dynamics, and I love the dangerously kooky path that this story is beginning to take. Every character is just chefs kiss👌

Rishe is determined to make this life work better than her last seven---but to do that, she really needs to have more physical fitness. And in order to satisfy several goals at once, she decides to join the newest batch of trainee knights, disguised as a man. This will show her how to train, expose some of Arnold's secrets, and allow her to know more of the people in this fearsome army. But complications always arise. . .

I like the first novel a lot, but I feel this one improves on it in several ways. Rishe now has a bit of a base to fall back on---her own rooms, and several people who are willing to do as she asks (preferably without letting Arnold know). She's got a lot of things going at the same time, but the plot threads tie together better.

And the layers play off each other very well. The knights do a lot to show her more about who Arnold is as a person. She's constantly comparing this to the Arnold warmonger she knew from all her previous lives, and trying to make sense of how we got from here to there. On the other hand, the surprise delegation forces her to confront the politics between two countries, as well as the genius who might undo all her hard work.

I think Michel is my favorite arc. He's very simple in his character and motivations, which is why Rishe finds him so hard to convince. He's not looking for romance. His sole goal is to have the things he creates find their intended uses. This would be admirable, except the thing he's created is deadly, and he's essentially looking for someone who will use it well. And Rishe is stumped on how to handle this until the things she learns from other activities gives her the breakthrough she needs.

Michel is essentially asking for a reason to be allowed to live. And I think my favorite part about the confrontation was Rishe realizing that she cannot convince this scientist with pretty words---she needs something concrete and provable.

Overall, if you enjoyed the first book, this one gets even better. I rate this book Highly Recommended.

This series continues to be fun, with Rishe overexerting herself and juggling many things at once in order to get a peaceful and carefree future LOL. In this second volume, her skills as a former knight and apothecary really shine through. Realizing that her body lacks the stamina and power to put her knowledge to use, she goes to join the knight cadets' special training disguised as a boy. At the same time, there are also delegations from Coyolles who she happened to know in previous lives: Prince Kyle, who she was closely linked to her as an apothecary, and Michel Hévin, an alchemist who used to be her mentor.

For the most part, this book revolves around Michel, his research, and his mindset about dangerous substances. He has a tragic childhood story to back it up, which… I'm honestly not really fond of, hence me knocking off a star for the rating. That being said, Rishe remains brilliantly shrewd and always makes sure to stay several steps ahead in every situation she's dealing with. Arnold remains mostly mysterious, but we're learning more about him through Rishe's eyes. So far it does seem like his first response towards foreign issues is to wage war, so it falls upon her to show him the benefits of diplomacy over conquest.

Despite Rishe's intelligence, however, she's rather slow when it comes to romance. It takes her a long time to digest the fact that Arnold might be interested in her, so all the fluffy moments only take place at the very end of the book. Up until that point, it's mostly Rishe scheming and navigating through possible political issues, she still hasn't found the answer to why Arnold would end up doing the things he did in her previous lives. Personally I don't find an issue with this contrast, but if you really don't like main characters who are dense, then you might want to keep in mind that Rishe is also one of those.

Overall, a really good read. Just minus one star because I'm not really invested in Michel's personal issue, so I hope the next volumes will explore more interesting characters and themes.

Once again, the book was phenomenal. Reading it was like a breeze, and I could not put the book down at all. Following Rishe's adventures and her quests to attain her goals is too much fun. She has no problem tackling down each and every problem she faces, and she knows how to maintain proper balance between all her responsibilities; forming an alliance between the two countries, treating Prince Kyle, helping professor Michel, and training herself. How does she possess enough power to do all that? Of course her previous life can help her, but that could only do so much when she is facing new situations. She's simply amazing.

Undoubtedly, her pretending to be a man to join the knights is the best part of the whole book. I simply live for stories like this... especially when they get discovered🤭🤭. I love me some drama, afterall hehe.

And not to forget Fritz; this poor fella with a one-sided crush on Lucius (Rishe). Can't wait to see his reaction in the upcoming books to her identity.

And Arnold: when will we figure him out? I'm having a hard time understanding him even though Rishe lays out the entirety of his motives and thoughtsfor us. He seems close one second, and distant the other.

I'll probably devour the whole series within a few days, and hopefully Kyle gets better, Michel is not suicidal, and we see Arnold, Rishe, and Theodore closer as a family.

P.s. thank you so much dear author for the epilogues and side stories<33

Soon after having recovered from her kidnapping ordeal Rishe rushes headlong into her next scheme to improve herself and learn more about Arnold in her attempt to prevent the war in this loop. Joining the knight cadets in disguise is a good way to do so. Complicating matters (or offering a great opportunity depending on your point of view) is the arrival of crown prince Kyle from Coyolles and the (al)chemist Michel a teacher of Rishe in a previous life.

A bit of a slow burn of a romance and mystery, but we are slowly getting more information on Arnold as well as some of Rishe's previous lives. For the most part great characters, especially the main character who shows agency, and who has to work to make progress. Her interaction with some of the other characters are a tad predictable, especially the knight cadets, or how things are resolved. Gunpowder in itself was also never so destructive as to change the nature of war, but lets assume this is not exactly the same as in RL for the sake of the story. The reference to horseless cars also comes a bit out of the blue. Did I miss Rishe not only having 7 lives in this world, but one in a modern Earth as well?

Anyway, it was a good read if at times a bit overly dramatic, but that was to be expected.

Besides the protagonists, I love the side characters and their backstories. The character developments and the dynamics between her previous life experiences and the current ones. At some point, I wish I could see more conversations with the characters she met in her previous life. It seems so easy how she deals with the memories she had. It must be very sad not to have the same relationships she had, that only she remembers and has memories, but the author seems not to go in depth about that. It may seem like an ordinary story, but I am very invested in politics and how she comes with new ideas and plans to prevent the future she has experienced. Also, the fact that we, as the readers, get the plan she was scheming at the end is very pleasing and has the effect that we are excited to read more.

This novel finishes where the anime does, just in case anyone who's seen the tv show is curious. Rishe continues to carry out her plans to avoid the war that will consume the world and take her life, while also tending to her duties as Prince Arnold's fiancée. She also has a new ally in the form of Arnold's younger brother, who has a strong network in the city's slums that she readily taps into. In this volume, she runs into more familiar faces from her past lives, namely, the sickly Prince Kyle and her alchemy master. Prince Kyle is trying to forge an alliance with Prince Arnold, while her alchemy master wants to bequeath a substance with deadly potential to her fiance, so Rishe quickly determines she must step in to course-correct before either character derails her plans for a long, peaceful life.
