I won this book via Goodreads Giveaway

This book was easy to read, right sized, and had some really relevant takeaways which gave me some food for thought.
It flowed much better for me when I started skipping over the personal stories. They were entertaining, but it interrupted the continuity, in my opinion. The anecdotal/personal stuff just isn’t what I’m reading business type books for.
The examples of successes and opportunities were helpful. Overall, I liked it and will utilize some of the information.

One of the few business books that is entertaining and joyful to read! What I found most compelling about "Lessons My Brothers Taught Me" is the focus on leadership and management lessons and how important culture is to the long-term survival of a company. The approach the author takes to presenting his lessons from business is very humorous and story driven which made the ideas very digestible. Couldn't put it down.

From the moment I read the first paragraph of the Forward to “Lessons My Brothers Taught Me”, I couldn’t put it down. The Forward, written by the Author’s brother defined the characteristics of a good story - interesting, insightful, and entertaining. The book delivered on all three promises and much more. The narrative is a fresh, unpretentious account of challenges and pitfalls of growing a successful engineering business from start-up to scale-up. The parallels drawn between childhood experiences and professional affairs go to the heart of the universal truths about business success.

Without the flair of corporate-speak, the author offers a 4S transform formula which, if applied correctly, leads to a successful venture.

Skillfully woven into the narrative is the author’s leadership philosophy which embodies a rare balance of people-centric approach and productivity focused strategy.
This is a must read for all budding entrepreneurs and seasoned business professionals.

Lessons My Brothers Taught Me is a heartfelt story of the trial and error Charlie McCarrick experienced while creating his business correlated with ritualistic, and often dangerous, rites of passage those of us who have older siblings can certainly attest to, albeit likely less severe. Charlie ties the intricacies of life's many obstacles taught through tough experiences between two unlikely sources while providing vivid imagery, comedy, and tragedy all in one entertaining and tough to put down book. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in starting a company, improving an existing one, or trying to figure out where one went all wrong... so it goes.

Many business writers offer anecdotal evidence of their theories of life. Few anecdotes are as hilarious and as ironic as those inflicted on the author by his brothers in their youth. The hallmark of great leaders, I believe, is a sense of humor about life. Hindsight framed by humor makes for a lasting impact. Charlie uses life experiences to frame his theories for a successful business. With experience to back it up, he takes the reader through his 4s process business owners and entrepreneurs can create success with the fuel of their character. It is very well done and I have shared this book with many clients and friends.
