It’s unfortunate that the premise is so appealing, because, for me, INTERTWINED was an overwritten, confusing, and crowded paranormal mess. Too much was implied and told directly to readers, the characters were unappealing, and the whole thing was just way too long to hold my attention.

Showalter has the unfortunate penchant of telling, not showing, and making her characters take agonizingly slow paragraphs to undergo a simple thinking process. Any story that relies heavily on the main characters’ romantic appeal must work on showing us readers the attraction and potential, instead of telling us over and over again, “X couldn’t resist Y. Z was scared to show her feelings” etc.

As a staunch fan of Showalter’s adult Harlequin romances, I was disappointed that she seemed to feel the need to “dumb down” her writing for the young adult crowd. Please. It’s the R-rated sexual thoughts and scenes that need to go, not intelligent character development. Teenagers can tell the difference between an author who knows the teen voice and an author who typically writes for adults and is just trying to make his or her way into the YA genre.

It goes without saying, then, that I couldn’t make myself care for the characters. They were self-absorbed, overbearingly introverted when it came to pondering, and didn’t do anything really worth mentioning. So Aden attacks a werewolf, gets bullied, and wants to lavish the vampire princess. So Mary Ann has a few conversations with her friend and boyfriend, and continues to hang out with the werewolf even though his monstrous presence supposedly frightens her because she never knows what’s going on.

By this point, a discerning reader will simply ask the important question: so what? Where are all of these disconnected and emotionally distant events leading up to? In the end it didn’t matter, because I was already tired of being narrated to like I have an IQ of 50 by a bunch of unlikable characters. I put the book down.

I have to give Gena and Harlequin TEEN this, though: they certainly have the right idea of what story elements will appeal to today’s Twilight audience. Readers looking for equally emotionally tortured paranormal romances will no doubt find their way to this new line. I have not read Showalter’s other YA books, but unfortunately I just cannot tolerate stories that insult my intelligence—and nor should I have to. Next time, Gena. Next time, Harlequin TEEN.

I haven't been able to fully read a book in weeks, I was in a big reading slump and I needed it to stop. So, I tried the only thing I thought would help me out of it, I read a book by Gena Freaking Showalter. And guess what? IT WORKED!

God, I love that feeling. I could not stop reading this book, I was hooked from page 1 and even Gena tried to stop me from reading INTERTWINED because she told me that this particular series has no end and I know I will be sad and mad when I actually finish it but, for now, I'm just going to enjoy the ride. And what a ride it was. Phenomenal.

INTERTWINED is like nothing I've ever read. It's so unique and cool, I loved everything about it. Gena once again blew my mind, she's the best. I don't read a lot of YAs but, like the WHITE RABBIT CHRONICLES, I know this series will be a favorite of mine.

This is the story of Aden, a not so normal teenager. He's not alone in his head, that sounds bad but it actually isn't. He has 4 souls trapped inside his head: Eve, Caleb, Julian and Elijah. Aden would be a normal human if not for them, they all have special powers, Eve can travel through time, Julian can raise the dead, Caleb can posses other bodies, and Elijah can predict the future. Aden lives in foster homes and he's moved into a ranch, living with other teens. In this new town he meets Mary Ann, a girl who negates his powers. When he's around her, the voices inside his head disappear and they both feel a connection toward each other, a brother/sister kind of love. Aden knows he's supposed to meet his girlfriend soon because Elijah predicted it and he does, a girl named Veronica and her protector, Riley, arrive into town not long after him.

I can't tell you much more because I'll reveal too much and it'd just spoil the entire book for you. Trust me, you want to read this amazing book and experience it spoiler-free for the first time. All I can tell you is that there's no love triangle, if you're a love triangle hater like me, I'd like to tell you: fear not friend, Gena doesn't do love triangles, you're free to enjoy this book as much as I did. So, go buy it!

There is so much to say about INTERTWINED. Like I said, this book is so different from what I'm used to read, even from Gena. It is Aden's story yes, but it's also Mary Ann's. We get Aden's POV but Mary Ann's as well and I loved that! Basically there are two love stories: Aden and Victoria and Mary Ann and Riley. It was just so well written, I read this book in one day and I want more.

I loved Aden from the start, he's so lost at the beginning, he has no friends, he thinks he's weird having souls within him. But he's still strong and I loved his relationship with the 4 souls. Despite them being annoying and him wanting some peace and quiet sometimes, Aden still cares deeply about them and them about him. I found myself caring about them as well and I cried guys. I cried, I won't tell you why, but I cried! I loved watching Aden growing, his character really changed in the book, in a good way. He matured a lot, became stronger and it was a great thing to see.

Now, Victoria. I liked her but I didn't really connect with her. She's a nice girl who truly cares about Aden but she wasn't my favorite character. I just didn't connect with her at all.

My favorite is definitely Mary Ann though. I loved reading her POV, she's the most normal of them all but she's amazing, such a great friend, a strong girl who has her entire life turned upside down in one day. I fell in love with her and especially Riley...oh my god, RILEY! You see Cole or even Frosty from the WHITE RABBIT CHRONICLES? Well, you have Riley. Pure bad boy à la Showalter. And guys, he's not human, he's something else and I loved him so much! Him and Mary Ann were so cute together, I can't wait to have more of them.
"They entered the classroom together. Mary Ann took her seat in the far right row, closest to the teacher's desk. Kyle Matthews had the one next to her and he was already seated. As Riley had done in their first two classes, he stood in front of his desired spot and stared. Stared until Kyle was shifting uncomfortably. Stared until Kyle picked up his books and founds another seat."
That right there is who Riley is and why I fell in love with him and why you will too.

And for those of you who're wondering about the kissing. Once again, fear not because Gena doesn't disappoints. She loves the kissing part as much as we do.

The story in INTERTWINED is great, a bit complicated to explain in a review and I don't want to write any spoilers so you'll have to read the book to understand but it's amazing. Gena wrote such an unique, kickass, interesting and fun book, I can't believe I haven't read it before now. The story will pull you in and you won't want to get out.

If I had to say one little negative thing it would be that the ending was a bit abrupt and rushed. I was expecting a big fight and maybe a big cliffhanger but none of that, it was good and a satisfying ending but a bit easy for me. Still, I cannot wait to read the next book and the next one after that, and then cry because there won't be a fourth book. I'll just have to go and threaten Gena or her dogs until she writes it. That sounds like a plan!

I enjoyed this book and have only one real complaint. When a book is the start of a new series, it would be nice to know that going in, maybe put a line on the cover, first book in the exciting new series, etc.
That being said and a little disappointed that I have to wait until the next book to find out what happens next, I found this book a fun read with lots, and I mean lots, of surprises.
This book has a little something for everyone. There are humans, well, sort of, since they have special abilities, vampires, werewolves, witches, goblins, fairies, undead, demons, ghosts, and maybe others as well. It keeps you guessing all the time of what will happen next. I couldn't put it down once I got into it.
Aden is a great character, from the moment you meet him, you hope that his life will get better. He deals with what he's been given as well as he can. His ability and Mary Ann's were intriguing and something new I haven't read about before. I'm looking forward to the next book exploring their relationship to one another more. What else can Mary Ann do? Or Aden?
It did take me a bit to get used to all the voices Aden hears, but after the first few chapters, I knew who they were and could identify who was talking, etc.
I'd recommend this for anyone who enjoy a fast-paced, action packed story.

I loved the concept of a character with four human souls living inside his head immediately. And when the book opened on him in a graveyard, accidentally raising the dead and then being forced to decapitate them, I was even more excited.

I was very disappointed to find Aden didn’t fight any more zombies through the book, but I felt the use of his other abilities incredibly interesting.

Many people enjoy reading paranormal romance. I can handle it, but vampires and werewolves make me cringe straight away. I felt in this book, the four people inside Aden’s head, with their assorted abilities of time travel, seeing the future, raising the dead and possessing others, would have had enough interesting adventures on their own, and the introduction of the vampire and werewolf love interests was done only to pull readers of Twilight. When fairies, goblins and witches started to make appearances, I was a bit unsure where it would go.

In spite of this, I really enjoyed Intertwined. I liked the friendship between Mary Ann and Aden, as well as Aden’s relationships with the people inside his head. I like flawed protagonists in novels, and I felt Aden was, though Mary Ann was a bit of a Mary Sue. Invented details about vampires (like the fact that you can only hurt them in their eyes and ears) felt a bit unnecessary, and some of the fight scenes a bit prolonged.

There were a couple of things I didn’t like: The vampires all had typical vampire names (Victoria, Dmitri), and Aden and Riley always felt the need to protect Mary-Ann and Victoria, and constantly assert their manliness by threatening each other (Do teenage girls find this attractive or something? I don’t get it).

Those things aside, I felt this novel was well-executed. Though I went “What?” when more mythical creatures started to appear, my interest didn’t dwindle, the story was gripping. This will inevitably appeal to readers of paranormal romance, and if that’s you, it’s well worth checking out. I think if I were more of a fan of that genre, I would have enjoyed Intertwined a lot more. It’s already far better than Twilight for me, and really action-packed. Based on Intertwined, I’m definitely going to check out Gena Showalter’s previous YA novels.

SUMMARY (50 word or less)

Got this as a part of an audiable.com sale. The name brand of the author had me curious. In the end, it was a little better than ok. The beginning of the story was interesting but stale in a way. But it took off from there and captured my attention.

Jessica Almasy does an amazing job at keeping the high number of characters straight with different voice inflections. I love her Julien. But I have to say, I probably enjoyed this story that much more because of her great narration.

I was about halfway through this and although I was enjoying it, I wasn't sure it was enough to continue with the rest of the series. That completely changed during the second half! I was suddenly drawn in and couldn't stop turning the pages. Vampires, werewolves, faeries, goblins and souls trapped in a human boys body? HELL YES, sign me up! The second half of the book was absolutely spellbinding and action packed and has left me itching to get my hands on the rest of this series!

DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!!!

This is one of those moments when you want to do serious bodily harm to somebody, aka just maybe the author who decides not to finish a series??? Book 3 released 2011 - book 4 forecasted for 2017?

I mean really?!

Why aren't these things taken off the market? How reader insulting. Gena Showalter, go take a flying leap to a destination occupied by guerilla forces of zombie s#*t.

Needless to say, I'm madly pleased with myself for bothering to look up my forthcoming bookfest, and surprise, surprise - colour me gobsmacked to realise the series has stultified and taken a head dive into a black hole.

Ugh. What happens when you mix Fruity Pebbles, Lucky Charms, and Cookie Crisp? You guessed it, blah.
Each of them alone is awesome and delicious, but when you mix all of these elements together you get a bowl of cereal that's very difficult to keep down.

That's my problem with this book. It had just WAY too much going on. The whole book managed to mix Vampires/Werewolves/Vlad The Impaler/Faeries/Teenage Pregnancy/Mental Health/Abandonment/Peer Pressure/Poor parenting/Time Travel/Possession and Premonitions into a 440 page book. Sorry, it failed. Along with that, there were so many side characters, both corporeal and non, that I lost interest as soon as the vampire was introduced, which is 1/3 of the way into the book. Note to the author, this book is like a pretty girl with way too much make-up on. Strip a few of the layers, and you may have a credible base.

"Intertwined" is about Aden Stone, a sixteen year old guy who goes to Crossroads High. At first he seems normal, with his smoldering looks and all, but in reality he has four voices inside of his head that each posess a supernatural power. He doesn't know where they came from or who they are; they have been with him since birth - they were always just there. Julian can raise the dead. Eve can transport Aden back to the past. Elijah can tell the future. And Caleb can posess other humans. This seems like a lot to handle in just one book, but it only gets weirder. Aden meets a girl named Mary Ann who seems to neutralize his power. He also meets a vampire princess and her wolf guardian. Not to mention the goblins, witches, and fairies he encounters. And yes all of these things are in just this book, they are in fact... intertwined. Hah! See what I did there?

Uh yeah. Okay, anyway... I started out really liking this book. The plotline with Aden and his four mysterious souls inside his head was very intriguing. However, after he and Mary Ann meet their supposed soul mates (a vampire and a werewolf), things seem to spin out of control. There were a TON of added plot elements and storylines that could've been fleshed out more and developed - but sadly the author just attempted to add a plethora of supernatural elements to the book. This could've been a meshed up version of Twilight, some Faerie book, and a werewolf mystery.

However, I enjoyed the story as a whole. This book kept me flipping the pages even when I had twenty text notes, an algebra test, and a biology quiz the following day. I hope if the author makes a sequel she'll try to flesh out a single plot line instead of creating a spiral of loosely related events. And also the conversation between the characters was stilted (more so towards the end of the book). A lot of YA authors seem to have this teenager conversation problem thing going on, so I didn't mind it too much though. Good effort, I think this one will become pretty popular in the future.

I think I should receive an award for reading this book, sorry Torie, but it truly was a horrid experience, every time I picked it up, I would get a headache and fell nausea.

This book was never on my radar. Why did I pick it up you ask? A person who I actually agree with on quite a few books recommended it to me when I was on one of those no-reading-times. It was an unwise decision from my part, since this book took me off the reading market for a long period of time.

This book tried to do so much in its short span (it attempted to take on quite a few important issues), and it handled it so poorly that I would have been better if this were just the story of a werewolf and a vampire in love.

Aden has four souls living inside his body, not to mention his own. Sound confusing? Well, it is. But also strangely engaging.

There is so much going on in this book. Within the first couple chapters there was foreshadowing, red herrings, background stories, and multiple subplots. If your looking for something quick or easy, this isn't the one. It is definitely not a skimmer.

Towards the end, it became a bit of a supernatural orgy fest with ghosts, goblins, zombies, witches, psychics, empaths, werewolves, vampires and demons (or rather half human/demon hybrids and their even more complicated spawn). Shall I go on? Because I could probably think of more. Oh yeah, time traveler!

As much as reading that list makes me think "awesome!", it also sometimes causes an involuntary "wait, what??".

The world building is decent. It offers a new version of vampires (Really? There are more versions?), but not a lot else is new. Warring factions of supernatural beings who all suffer from megalomania and want to rule the world. Why cant the pretty monsters all just get along? It seems like no matter what, they are always hating and fighting each other. Is it too much to ask for something different? This isn't a gripe about this book in particular, just the massive amounts of fantasy novels that seem to rely on the same formula. There's just too much of the same.

I prefer updates of classic mythos, and some would probably say this falls into that category. But the supernatural part of the story just felt like "Okay, I've heard it all before". Maybe because i actually watch too much of CW's Supernatural, but who can say?

The thing that most impressed me was the main concept. Five souls inhabiting one body. When I first read that, I thought that there was no way an author could pull that off. But she certainly did! The characters really all seemed unique and mostly genuine. It became fairly easy to separate them from each other, and I could almost picture what I think they all would look like if they looked like anything or anyone. What do they look like to Aden, I wonder? Maybe glowing balls of light inside his mind? I wonder if he even has an idea of what they are supposed to look like.

As it went on though, I started to care less and less about what happened. I still liked the characters but I just felt like the story got way to complicated and too far out there. It needed to just get on with the main storyline about Aden.

I am excited about the sequel, I just really hope that she focuses more on the main plot about the souls and less on the war of attractive beasts.

So I did like this book, I'd give it a 3.75...

I was okay with the characters... I loved Riley, and I liked Mary Ann. I thought their relationship was amazing, and I wished that was focused on more than Victoria...

Oh gosh. Victoria. Did she have to choose a name in Twilight? I mean, REALLY? I don't like Twilight, but this was just... bad. Forget Mary Ann being a Sue, Victoria was just awful! She was beautiful, powerful, nice, a freaking princess like in Disney... Oh I just thought she was terrible. I couldn't STAND her, and it made me dislike Aden for actually liking her.

I was alright with Aden, I liked Caleb much better.

Personally, I saw the whole "Mary Ann/ Aden/ Eve" thing extremely predictable. I saw that coming from the very beginning once Aden said "I couldn't imagine kissing her" or something like that. So when I found out, I was a little annoyed.

Why did the author have to add in demons and goblins and fairies? It was just so ridiculously pointless and unnecessary!

The reason I liked this book so much was for the Riley x Mary Ann. I wish there was more about them and it doesn't sound like they'll be in the next book as much, but I hope I'm wrong... if they aren't, I will be exceedingly unhappy.

Dear Readers,

Have you ever read a book that you were so wrapped up in, so completely involved with, that by the time you finished it you had no idea what the heck your feelings are? If you have, than you can understand how I’m feeling about Intertwined. It’s been three days since I read this book, but I still have no freaking idea how I’m going to put this review in words you are going to understand, because I’m still thinking, “WTF did I just read?” Regardless, I’m going to try. I should be able to make something out for you guys . . . I did write over seven pages worth of notes on the subject. *deep breath*

Intertwined isn’t your average teen romance novel. For one, the main characters don’t fall in love and live happily ever after . . . with each other, anyways.
Were my waffles sprinkled with crack?she wondered. This couldn't be real.

When Aden Stone first meets Mary Ann Gray (in a desecrated graveyard after Aden accidentally causes the dead to rise . . . whoops), the heavens move, all the town’s power flickers, and they accidentally call dangerous supernatural beings from all over the world to their small town to kill investigate the source of so much power. But don’t be confusing that mutual feeling of magnetism and repulsion with love, because they don’t like each other like that. Because that would be too easy. No, Aden and Mary both confess they feel like long-lost siblings, but why?

Meanwhile, Mary is being stalked by a big, beautiful wolf with green eyes (because that’s a normal body part to be noticing when a person thinks they are minutes away from becoming a scary wolf’s next meal.) that is much too tame and non-aggressive to be an average wolf with green eyes that can somehow talk to her with his mind. At the same time, Aden has finally met the girl of his dreams that Elijah, the prophet that lives in his head, prophesied he’d meet soon before he’s killed.

Oh, did I forget to mention he has souls taking up space in his head? Yeah, he does. No, he’s not crazy, they really live up there. Your doctors would think you have schizophrenia too if the only friends you’ve ever had live inside your brain. Let me introduce them: Elijah, the soul that can and will predict when you die. He’s never wrong, no matter what. Caleb's ability forces Aden to body hop (ironic that he can’t seem to leave Aden’s though), Julian raises the dead, which can be damn inconvenient when Aden accidentally walks into a graveyard. Then there’s Eve, the female soul stuck in Aden’s body. She’s the mother figure (can you imagine having a mother-like soul taking up real estate in your body? Yikes!) and can to take Aden into the past – his past.

❥ ❥ ❥

[This isn’t even half of what goes down in Intertwined and I’ve already written a whole review. I haven’t even told you my opinion, yet! So if you more details, get your hands on a copy, because I have to finish this review up sometime today.]

I know you can hear a lot of sarcasm in what I’ve wrote sorry not sorry but, as you can see, it gets a little ridiculous . . . and it doesn’t stop there. And yet, I had such a fun time reading this! Sure there was a few things I didn’t like about the book.

For one, Aden and Victoria’s (Victoria is the vampire princess he falls in love with) relationship didn’t click as a good match. They’re all insta-love and no real substance, but I can’t tell if it’s deliberate because of Aden’s up-coming expiration date. I’m hoping book two gives me a clue.

In comparison, Mary Ann and Riley’s (remember that green-eyed wolf? Yeah, he’s a werewolf. Figures) relationship is moving at a slower, more believe-able pace with much more essence. They feel like best friends turned lovers, which I absolutely enjoy. Maybe I have such a big crush on them because Riley reminds me of a big, love-able puppy. I mean, he totally loves to have his each scratched. It’s so cute. ♥_♥

Nothing I say about this book will touch on how crazy complex this story is for young adult fiction – or any fiction, really. What is it with Showalter and her ability to take a crazy busy plot line and reel me like a small fish on a hook? I don’t stand a chance with this lady! When she throws one plot twist after another on me, she guarantees I’ll by another book. This woman is either crazy talented or just extremely sadistic. I can’t tell, all I know is I’m picking up the next book as soon as possible.

Manipulated and loving it,

There’s something about the new guy at Crossroads High . . .

Most sixteen-year-olds have friends. Aden Stone has four human souls living inside him:

One can time-travel.

One can raise the dead.

One can tell the future.

And one can possess another human.

With no other family and a life spent in and out of institutions, Aden and the souls have become friends. But now they're causing him all kinds of trouble. Like, he'll blink and suddenly he's a younger Aden, reliving the past. One wrong move, and he'll change the future. Or he'll walk past a total stranger and know how and when she's going to die. He's so over it. All he wants is peace. And then he meets a girl who quiets the voices. Well, as long as he's near her. Why? Mary Ann Gray is his total opposite.

He's a loner; she has friends. He doesn't care what anyone thinks; she tries to make everyone happy. And while he attracts the paranormal, she repels it. For her sake, he should stay away. But it's too late....
Somehow, they share an inexplicable bond of friendship. A bond about to be tested by a werewolf shape-shifter who wants Mary Ann for his own, and a vampire princess Aden can't resist. Two romances, both forbidden. Still, the four will enter a dark underworld of intrigue and danger but not everyone will come out alive....

REVIEW: Somewhat confusing, with the many different story arc's but still a good read once you wade through the layers of the main and subplots of the book. Sadly, all the layers seem to only take away the ease of reading and relating to the main characters - let alone the four souls trapped in Adens head. It just makes it all little hard to follow with so much going on and so many mythical creatures popping up in what felt like every turn of the page.

The biggest let down for me by far, was that the story was sold to me on the fact that the it was about a person with 4 souls trapped inside of him and that each one had a different ability. Seeing the future, Possessing another, Waking the Dead and Time Travel - which was amazing to read when it finally happened throughout the book. I just wished there were more interaction with the trapped souls. In my eyes with the
whole mix of the many different things going on in this world that Gena Showalter has written, the main plot as I saw it (the four souls) had somewhat fallen to the wayside. In the end things were tied up with the souls a little bit to quickly for what I was expecting and left me with questions that I will only hope to see the answers for in the books to follow.

As a whole it was far from bad, just a little jumbled and confusing. Those few flaws wouldn't and won't prevent me from purchasing the next in the series as I look forward to learning more in the future and to find out just where the author will take us and her characters next.

Intertwined was definitely a one-sit read! From the very beginning — when one of the four souls living inside Aden accidentally raises a cemetery — you know you're in for a totally awesome ride. The whole concept of it was original and complicated and tons of fun!

Plus, the originality extended to the plot which I really loved. This whole book was a breath of fresh air (with a twisting plot, an intriguing world, and lovable characters), especially that there were two sets of romances instead of one love triangle (and I can almost bet you'll guess the pairings wrong the first time around LOL).

You know you have an awesome cast when one guy has four hilarious souls living in him (Aden), one girl is a super-sweet vampire princess (Victoria), another girl can sort of counteract Aden's ability in a way (Mary Ann), and another guy is a wicked hot werewolf bodyguard (Riley, I love you! ♥). Together they made the book even more enjoyable to read.

Fast-paced, fun, and entertaining all the way through, Intertwined is a book that will have you laughing in one moment and almost crying in the next. I couldn't put it down, and I'm so excited to read the next installments in the series!

BUY or BORROW?: If you're a lover of original paranormal fantasies, you should definitely add this to your collection! :)

Aden Stone is a sixteen-year-old boy with four souls living inside his body.

One can time travel, one can raise the dead, one can tell the future, and one can possess another human being.

He has spent most of his life in and out of institutions, never really making friends. He doesn't like having the souls sharing his body. A lot of problems have been caused due to Aden not being able to control the powers that the souls have.

Aden soon gets sent to a ranch for troubled boys, and his first week there he meets a girl, Mary Ann. Mary Ann is the exact opposite of Aden. She has friends and he spends most of his time alone. Being around Mary Ann quiets the voices.

They form a bond of friendship that neither really understands. She meets a werewolf shape-shifter and he meets a vampire princess. Two forbidden romances begin amidst the dangerous lives that the friends have found.

INTERTWINED contains beautifully written characters that keep you entranced from page one. I simply could not put this book down until the very end. Gena Showalter's characters are an engaging and exciting group that, when woven together, form a beautiful tapestry that adults and teens alike will enjoy.

If this is just the beginning of Harlequin's new teen line, then we the readers will definitely not be disappointed. We have much to look forward to!

Omg this book is life. You don't understand how much i love this book. My copy is worn and it is beat up and it is still beautiful; i just think that the rips and tears add character. Also i got this book when i was like 10-11ish, i really did not know how to keep my books in the best of shape.
I also did not know about buying new books. I just kept re-reading the same books i had over and over again. It was great.

ANYWAYS.

This is book is honestly amazing. It is so unique and different and nothing like most of the books I've read. It has an original story line that brings forth a whole new outlook on the werewolf/vampire world. Plus has as super hot main character, and another super hot sidish/main character with two hot brothers. So you cannot go wrong.

The storyline is just ugh amazing. It starts out wonderfully; instantly pulling you into the book. It immediately introduces two of the main characters and slowly adding the rest of them without you really knowing *cough* RILEY *cough*
But honestly you cannot go wrong with this book.
The only sad thing is I haven't been able to find this book in stores anymore. Ive checked all over my city and i haven't been able to find it. I don't know if you can find in in stores in the States. But your best option is buying it online.
BUT ITS SUPER GOOD I RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE UGH YES READ IT YOU'LL LOVE IT.

i thaut this book was gonna be so crap, but i LOVED IT!!! i thaut it was really good, the characters are all very likeable and are strong, but they grow on and from one another.
i REALLY liked Riley- he is sooo cute and protective of Mary-Ann =] i cracked up at one point wen Aden was doing something wierd and Mary Ann said he was scaring her and then Riely goes 'you will cease scaring her immediately' hehe, i thaut it was sooo cute. and the way he always stays with her and holds her- its really cute. i liked wolf from the start, but i thut Victoria's bodyguard was gonna be mean and harsh, but then it ended up being him and he was soooo sweet and cute- to Mary Ann, loll.
i didnt relli like Victoria, she was too hard and mean to Mary Ann.. but i guess toward the end she lightened up a bit coz she saw that she wasnt a threat in the area of Adens attention and she saw that Riely liked her.
Aden was a good character, and he handled everything with the supernatural side of things and his voices and his temper.. and the ending absolutely shocked me!!!
i CANNOT wait till the enxt book comes out- so far away :(
i definately recommend this book to ppl who like paranormal romance type of books =]

One word. Amazing. Of course, I wasn't surprised, this was a book by Gena Showalter. Picking up this book I was a bit nervous because I haven't heard much about it and I don't really like books told from the perspective of a boy(there are so many exceptions to this), but I was so glad I picked up this book and started reading. I say it again. Amazing. If you loved Vampire Academy, Shadow Falls, Hex Hall and books like that, you would love this book. Intertwined takes a spin on all books full of fantasy creatures like werewolves, vampires, fairies, etc, where the main character has four souls that TALK in his head. I never read a book like this before and the fact that this was so interesting and new to me, I was instantly drawn in from the first couple of pages. I loved the characters in this book and the romance...... just amazing. Favorite character is Riley, of course but I love Aden just as much.

You definitely need to pick up this book and read it! The story is so interesting and different and I know you will love the characters. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series, I WANT THE NEXT BOOK NOW!

This book has it all! You get a little bit of everything: zombies, vampires, werewolves, witches, fairies, demons, goblins and even humans. There is a lot going on (not to the point where I felt overwhelmed) which kept me turning page after page after page. There was never a dull moment. It's unpredictability kept me on edge.

I found myself wanting more of Mary Ann and Riley's story. Riley is all mysterious in the begin and that's hot! Riley being a werewolf definitely added to his hotness.

Let's talk book cover. I like it. The guy has a rockin’ body. I love the casual look. And I kind of like that we don't see his face. It lets the reader picture Aden they way they read and interpret him.

I was sooooo excited to read this book. I mean, this kid (Aden) has four souls trapped inside his head. How awesome does that sound? Well, not awesome (for him), but its certainly sounded different than any other book I've come across, which made it awesome. Plus, these four souls each have a special gift: Eve can time travel, Julian can raise the dead, Eljiah can see the future, and Caleb can posses another body.
Now tell me that doesnt sound like an amazing book?

I started rading this book and was totally hooked! It starts off with Aden accidentally running into a cemetary. And, of course, the dead began to rise. Then this girl (Mary Ann) walks by, and something strange happens: There's this rush of wind and Aden has to urge to go hug her and run away from her at the same time. I was like: okay this is really getting interesting now. Especially since Mary Ann can quiet the voices in Aden's head. Weird, huh?

I thought the idea of the book was fantastic: Aden is just trying to figure out how to set these four souls free. And he wonders if Mary Ann can somehow help with that, since she can quiet the souls for some strange reason.
And then the vampires and werewolves showed up...

I swear I almost face-palmed. I usually tend to stay away from vampires books. But I was like: okay, I can give this a chance, I guess. However, books like this are the reason why I stay away from vampire books.

Another thing that bothered me about this book was the Aden-Victoria and Mary Ann-Riley relationships. They just didnt feel right. They kind of felt rushed, but thats not why I didnt like them. I usually really like the romantic relationships in whatever book I'm reading, but that wasnt the case for this one. I felt like the book would've been better without those relationships.

Change of subject: Lets now talk about all the twists and unexpected turns that I happen to love in a book.
When Aden first met Mary Ann I thought maybe they would have something going on later. But it talked alot how they felt like they wanted to hug eachother, a sibling type of hug though. So then I started wondering, maybe they are related...twins even! But that wasnt the case. So now I think I'd rather much see Aden with Mary Ann instead of all these other relationships that were going on.

Second, Since the beginning I always felt suspicious of Eve. At first I wondered if she was Aden's mother... I was so sure of it. But again, that wasnt the case. I was close though.

Oh and Mary Ann's wolf! There were all these hints always pointing at Shannon being the werewolf. I was like: Yeah, its him. Pffft, who wouldnt see that? Boy was I wrong yet again.

Overall, I thought this book was pretty good. Sure I thought some things could've been left out and the plot line was totally complicated. But I liked it, not enough to say it is one of my favorites, but its still good.

Now, the only reasons why I am going to read the next book is because I am dying to know what will happen to the rest of the souls inside Aden. And also, I want to know more about his parents. I sure hope they find them.
I also want to see if the author will just try and focus on the one important thing: Aden and the souls inside of him.

I was thrilled when I won this ARC of INTERTWINED on SCIFIGUY’s Blog about a month ago and even more thrilled to be able to review it here for all over you. I am a serious GS fan but have only dabbled in her YA books, INTERTWINED being the first in a new series by Gena which also is the second title for the new Harlequin Teen . But, I am now an avid fan and will surely be working my way through some of her YA books I skipped over! So, we start out with Aden Stone, who is a foster kid of sorts, living at a youth ranch for boys, unruly boys that is. The books open with him not paying attention and walking right into a cemetery. So who cares right? We all know they can be creepy….. well that is putting it lightly for Aden, especially since he can raise the dead. Oh yes, let me rephrase that, one of the souls living inside him can raise the dead! Nothing beats a little zombie action during your quite Sunday stroll right? Let’s back up, Aden was given up by his parents at the age of three since he was born with four souls living inside him. They talk, they yell, they solicit unwanted advice, but they are a part of him and have been forever with no way out…..or who he thinks. That parts coming though… so what is the point of the souls? They can’t remember who they were in their past lives much less their original names, but what they can do is pretty amazing and frightening all at the same time. Eve can transport him back to the past, a younger version of himself, Elijah can predict death of anyone who passes him including Aden’s, Julian is the “corpse whisperer” and can wake the dead, then there is Caleb who can force him to posses someone else’s body with only a touch. Kind of a lot for anyone, but Aden is tough, he has to be really to survive day to day, especially at this new ranch, the D & M Ranch where he is given a last chance of sorts to get his life back on track and finish school. He is a smart kid and truly just wants to be as normal as possible, I mean who wouldn’t. So you remember that cemetery Aden is walking by, you know with the zombies crawling out of their graves, well he has two daggers and he knows how to put them down. All in a days work until a beautiful girl walks by the edge of the cemetery and catches his eye, he is drawn to her, Mary Ann Gray, as a gust of wind blazes right through his chest, not to mention the voices have faded….. I mean completely......as in gone...ahhh peace at last for Aden! Which BTW has never happened. Aden knows that this girl, but he doesn’t understand why he wants to hug her, is she something special to him? He just doesn’t have the faintest idea as to why. Aden is able to attend the same public HS as Mary Ann where he starts to befriend her; their relationship is nothing more than a mutual friendship but as they learn about each other’s past or lack there of in Aden’s case a bond grows and their lives unravel. Then there is Victoria, Elijah predicted Aden’s death, even let him see the vision, there is a girl that is involved but it isn’t Mary Ann, his “dream girl” is Victoria. Oh she is beautiful and everything he has dreamed out since seeing the vision of his death, oh yea, she is a vampire princess too. She comes with baggage but the moment that Aden and Victoria meet he is unwilling to let her go, half in love with her already from the vision and dreams. Mary Ann is on her own journey as well which is connected to Aden, she encounters a wolf who can read her aura/moods and who can talk to her, plus she is strangely attracted to him and feels a closeness she has never felt with another, including her boyfriend Tucker. Who it turns out is holding some of his own secrets. When around "Wolfie" or Riley AND Maryanne, Aden's voices don't disappear, a connection the kids can't figure out. The kicker is Riley is a shifter who happens to be Victoria's bodyguard to boot. Talk about intertwined! And remember that "gust of wind" type of feeling? Well that was some energy pull, Aden, unbeknownst to him sent out a signal of sorts to all over the underworld, which includes witches, fairies, demons, warlocks, and all sorts of creatures. This very "signal" is what originally brought Victoria and the vampires to Aden.
All in all as enjoyable as I found this book it was somewhat confusing at times where I had to step back and say, huh? So do I recommend it, yes. Am I looking forward to book two in 2010, yes. Mostly because by the end I was so sucked in and there were many questions that just weren't answered and there is a pretty big cliffhanger at the end.....

And guess what, the sequel to Intertwined, Unraveled isn’t due out until September 2010. Darn it, I can’t believe I have to wait that long!

Okay, you've seen my one-star rating, and now is the point in time in which you would expect to read a brief summary before getting to my review.

Not gonna happen.

First of all, I began this book about a month ago. I've tried to block the horror out of my mind, so I can't fucking remember what happens. All I remember is the real shit (which there is a lot of). I swear, I felt like I should be picking this thing up in a wad of toilet paper and flushing it down the toilet, then going and yelling at my bff who asked me to read it.

Second, I didn't finish it. I got only a little more than one or two hundred pages in, and the only reason I even made it that far was because we had testing that week, and so I needed something to do for fifteen minutes after each one. Otherwise, it would've sat in a corner somewhere, unread for all eternity. If only, if only...

This. Book. Was. Terrible. Absolutely, positively terrible. The relationships were so fake and stupid that I wanted to jump onto the page and slap all of them across the face. The main character (I didn't even bother to remember his name) is in love with some chick he keeps seeing in one of his soul's visions (ooh, I'm gonna attack that issue here in a minute), and he's never even met her. Ever. And when he does meet her, it's an automatic "OMG you're the perfect girl I love you I love you, let me fuck you in a hotspring" kind of feeling. Ugh. Oh, and did I mention that this vision chick is a fucking vampire? Yeah. A vampire. WTF? Have we not had enough of that shit in the last couple years? Oh, and when he meets the female lead, he feels that he loves her, but in a brother/sister kind of way, and at the same time wants to run away from her. Choke me, please.

And then, the female lead in this book left me wishing that I hadn't been born a girl. She was so empty-headed, clueless, flat, boring, detestable, irritating, stupid, and absolutely the shittiest human being I have ever had the misfortune to read about. First of all, she has the same feelings for the male lead that he does for her: sibling-like love, yet deathly fear. Oh, and she can make the souls inside his head shut the fuck up for once, which is actually kinda sad because they are the most interesting characters in the whole damn story.

And then she meets this weird black wolf with green eyes that follows her around all the time, to and from school every day. At first she's afraid of it, but eventually she makes friends with it and all that shit. Okay, hint hint: he's a werewolf. Great. So we have vampires and werewolves in the same story. Fabulous. And then, major ew factor, she seems to start feeling romantic feelings for the thing! Okay, she doesn't know it's a werewolf, even though the rest of us do, yet the author seems to hint at a romance between them. Sick. Absolutely sick.

And then there is the main focus of the story: the souls inside hero-boy's head. There's four of them, and they all have a varied, absolutely ridiculous mix of powers. Time travel, necromancy, seeing the future, and possesion. I mean, combine that with the werewolves and vampires, and you have the most absolutely ridiculous book ever written.

All that, plus the terrible, detached writing that left me far from breathless and/or excited, this was an absolute failure. And, oh, look, it's the first in a series! Big surprise, considering I haven't read a single decent book in years that was a stand-alone. Good freaking God, can't we just limit the torture to one volume? Needless to say, I was sorely tempted to throw this novel at my BFF's head, as she was the one who asked me to read it and tell her about it. I hope to God she doesn't waste her time on it, like I was unfortunate enough to do. Nothing is worth putting yourself through that. Nothing.

I am so confused with this book! I actually feel a trend with the books I have selected to read as of late because most have left me with the WTH? feeling.
The story centers around Aden Stone, a boy who has 4 souls trapped inside his body. They have been with him since his birth and because he actually talks to them out loud he is thought to be schizophrenic and placed in several mental institutions. So, his story is wrapped around trying to figure out how to free the souls before he dies, which will be soon since one of the souls can predict another persons death and has shown Aden's his own. That sounds intriguing right, but then you add in every paranormal creature you can think of and throw in certain people who "negate" their powers and it just makes it too overwhelming. I had to reread one paragraph literally 5 times to get the he said, she said, she neutralizes, he neutralizes her, and so on. I have a headache just thinking about it. The beginning started out great actually. It took a while to get used to deciphering all the voices in Aden's head but I thought the whole idea was neat and different. By the time you get used to the voices all of a sudden the story shifts and they stay quiet, which we are told in the beginning that is something they rarely do so what gives?? I liked the voices better than the main characters by the end. Mary Ann the "neutralizer" is way to immature. Even her name grates on my nerves (no offense to any Mary Anns out there, it is just the way she is portrayed). At one point she is actually crushing on a werewolf and she hasn't even seen his face yet. She sleeps (not SLEEPS) with him and cuddles with him. It was really disturbing. Then there is Victoria the token vampire princess and Riley her werewolf bodyguard. The four are "intertwined" around each other in so many different ways that again I know I keep repeating this but it is CONFUSING. I could go on about the story but there are so many twists and turns that confused me that I feel if I write them I will just confuse myself further.
By the end of the story it felt rushed and it looked like a completely different book. She spent too much time on romanticizing her characters and not enough on the actual story. If Showalter would take out a couple of things she would have a decent book.
Oh well I guess I will just have to move on...

Gena Showalter has come up with a cracker of an idea - a reform school boy, Aden, with special powers who also happens to house four other souls in his head/body (which he must keep secret or risk mental institution). Throw in a cute girl-next-door type, a vampire princess, a werewolf and a few maggot ridden zombies and she has a sure-fire formula winner. Right? Well you would think, wouldn't you? I sure got my hopes up.

It took until Chapter 8 (P 133) for things to start to come together. Before that I had trouble keeping awake while I read. Then Chapter 13 (P 234) for the story to get really interesting - after so many pages of obvious 'fill' we finally start to get a few answers as to why our little group of 'abnormals' has been drawn together.

Some of the characters just didn't work for me. Mary Ann was far too sweet and unassuming for a 16 year old girl. Her whole life was devoted to making others happy. As a main character she was pasty and spineless. Her relationship with her best-friend-since-toddlerhood, Penny, didn't gel. It was all fake and no substance. A lot of the secondary characters were basically stick-figures, which is OK if they don't pop up too often but not OK if they are in almost every chapter. They need connecting to the main characters with history/emotion and thereby connecting to the reader.

And therein lies a lot of Intertwined's problem - lots of Tell going on by the author and precious little Show. There were whole chapters that were like that - sketchy and boring, jumping willy nilly from one theme to the next. Then every now and then Gena would throw in some meat but she would give too much detail! There was no balance. Sometimes it was as if another person had commenced writing a passage. She does not shine at writing her character's emotions with empathy.

There was insufficient explanation given to certain events in the book - especially action scenes - where I suspect the author ran out of ideas so she just stopped. A bit like having a house with important rooms unfinished.

Much was made of Aden's special abilities - but we never actually found out what they were. His four housemates seemed to be the only ones with the bags of tricks.

I gave up by page 402. I really didn't want to know any more because it just got too silly with so many themes/ideas bubbling over. PAINFUL.
