The Boleyn Heresy Part One: The Time Will Come

Rate this book
We all know how Anne Boleyn’s story ends. Now learn the secret of how it began…

◆◆◆

Following a successful global tour for her bestselling book about the Lost Gospel of Mary Magdalene and preparing for her own nuptials, author Maureen Paschal isn’t looking for a new project—and certainly not a discovery that will tear apart the world of Tudor history. But when a cache of 16th-century documents is found in the wall of the French Chateau she is renovating with her fiancé, her world is turned upside down by a new, demanding Anne Boleyn.

The second wife of the infamous King Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, is best known for her gruesome death by beheading—and the alleged scandalous behavior that led her to the chopping block. But as Maureen is drawn deeper into the secret world that Anne Boleyn inhabited during her youthful years in France, what evolves is the unexpected and sometimes shocking portrait of a complex, courageous and profoundly faithful woman. Anne comes vividly to life as both a heroine of religious reform and as a charitable champion of the common people who call her queen. This Anne Boleyn exists in stark contrast to the scheming, ambitious adulteress depicted in most modern accounts of Tudor history. This is an Anne Boleyn who changed the world indelibly, courageously, and intentionally. She is also a woman who died brutally for her audacity and power.

Maureen’s immersion into Anne’s life in France fuels her determination to defend this much-maligned queen, but not everyone shares her perspective. History pushes back on those who try to change it, and Maureen finds herself in a deadly quest for the truth. As a body count of smart, outspoken women begins to pile up across the UK and Europe, Maureen must face the a serial killer is stalking the women who would change history, and she is next. If she wants the truth of Anne Boleyn’s story to be told, she will first need to find a way to stay alive…

‘I am not afraid…I was born to do this’ - Jeanne D’Arc

After a twelve year hiatus, Kathleen McGowan has returned to the story of Maureen Paschal, Scottish millionaire Berenger Sinclair, Tammy and Roland and Maureen’s cousin Peter, a former priest. The book is a frantic page turner from the Prologue to Anne’s last words…J’Anne Boleyn, The Most Happy.

As in the challenges to mainstream religion, evoked by Kathleen’s, The Magdalene Trilogy, The Boleyn Heresy will challenge the Tudor Scholars and the public at large. The truth about Anne Boleyn, will require the rewriting of history books the world over, because, as we know, history since the beginning of time, has been written by the victors.

With a dire warning from a fellow Anne Boleyn supporter, ‘Tudor Scholars are merciless’, Maureen embarks on a journey through the early 16th Century…to the time when the relationship between Anne and Marguerite of Navarre was one of the most important female friendships in history. And yet, this relationship has been virtually overlooked, until now.

Come along for a most amazing life-changing ride. Pack your unbiased heart and soul , and right the wrongs of the past.

Fortune followed by misfortune followed by fortune becomes a strong woman.

Boleyn Heresy Part 1: The Time Will Come. Kathleen McGowan’s ability to deconstruct the evidence in order to reconstruct the TRUTH is unparalleled. Prepare to have your eyes and ears opened by the truth told, NOT by His-tory’s victors but by one of Her-story’s most famous losers - She who lost her head, the amazing Anne Boleyn. Welcome to the previously unrevealed truth, of Anne’s formative years. Buckle up!

easily a 4.5 despite some density and uneven pacing.
twines the early life of Boleyn and a secret sisterhood of powerful women including queens strongly influenced by Cathar-‘heresy’ traditions and beliefs in Europe in the early 16th century.
the last sixth of the book becomes quite dense and philosophical, so one has to read it line by line, with care. Luckily for me the subject matter was of great interest to me.
a good read, down my alley.

WOW. (That’s the highest review I can give!) History rewritten - literally! Amazing book written by an amazing author. While reading this book I entered Anne Boleyn’s world and didn’t want to leave. And I look forward to returning again this summer with the publication of The Boleyn Heresy—Part Two: The Time Returns. I can hardly wait!

BOOK REVIEW 📚

I have to first state that Kathleen McGowan's first three books I read were incredible! And I became a HUGE fan! My interest in the Holy Family is fairly new (over the last 5 or 6 years) and Kathleen McGowan's research into Mary Magdalene is astounding!! I absolutely recommend everyone to read those books!

NOW for this book! I have been OBSESSED with Tudor Court, specifically Anne Boleyn, for well over 20 years! Anne has always been a mystery to me! I was always in awe of her tenacity and determination! I knew there was always more to her than what we've been told. Just as there is much more to Mary Magdalene than original stories tell!

Kathleen McGowan unfurls a history of Anne that is hugely refreshing!! It confirms that there is a LOT more to Anne than other Tudor scholars have looked into.

I've always thought that if I existed during this period of history I'd have been deemed a heretic. This book absolutely confirms I would have!!

I can't WAIT for part two to come out!!!

Anne Boleyn comes to life

Kathleen McGowan makes us feel like we are the clothes Anne Boleyn wears; we observe events—imagined, embellished, or actual—through the lens of one who is right there, nearly experiencing inside of us what the young Anne lived through in the 1500s.

Concurrently, we feel emotions and process ideas along with the modern day heroine/protagonist of these novels, Maureen Pascal. We are elated with her when she makes discoveries, and we feel scared for her as KMcG masterfully weaves past killings together with present possibilities of a violent end.

Many times I looked up events and places to see if they existed. The result of reading this book is a desire to visit or revisit all the places Kathleen uses as backdrops for her story. Of course I’m left wanting to read what’s next in this first of (not sure how many) narratives.

Fascinating read!!

What an interesting, compelling read! I couldn't put the book down. I wish this book had come out before my trips to L'Aude in France. And now I'll await impatiently for the next book from Kathleen McGowan to find out more about Maureen's story with that special diary!

Definitely did not enjoy this one as mi h as the others.
I respect the hard work and dedication that McGowan has put into this novel, but I just wasn't invested in it.

I understand it's split in two, but there was no sense of structure within this story. Would have been nice to get a bit more time with Maureen too.

So much history being told, that the story feels more like a historical record rather than an actual story.

I'm not content in reading the second part. As I mentioned in the poet Prince review, I feel like The Expected One was the best.

Not to mention, there were so many little spelling and punctuation errors in this book which by the end was starting to get a bit annoying. Those editors really didn't do their job properly

Amazing tale, brilliant characters, incredible herstory

The storytelling is superb and the way Kathleen weaves it is gifted. As a fan of Magdalene Mysteries, especially in France, I was surprised to see this well laid path of connection. Even if you're not a Magdalene devotee, this book stands on its own merit. The depth and breadth of information about Anne Boleyn is phenomenal and really brings her sweet character to life, along with many other very interesting powerful and largely forgotten women to bright light.

Captivating!

This could-certainly-be-true tale of Anne Boleyn’s time in France captivates my imagination as well as my curiosity about those unaccounted for years in Anne Boleyn’s life. A lifetime Francophile myself, I envision her in these timeless places with some of my favorite women of history and it makes me swoon. I deeply admire Kathleen McGowan’s scholarship. J’adore ce livre and I look forward to Part Two.

I went with 4 stars rather than 5 because I’m a little frustrated with the ending. It was a good stopping point (knowing there is a part 2 coming) for Anne’s story but Maureen and Berengers story just stopped and though I know the key was Anne Maureen needs to have her loose ends cleared up. I’m kind of bummed out that part 2 isn’t available yet I think the rest of the story would have made it a 5 star review. So stay tuned!

Interesting take on someone we've all heard of but never quite in this way. Anne Boylen is clearly more interesting than previously thought. A fictional book but with extensive research and historical information.

I enjoyed this fourth book in the Magdalene series with only one complaint. I do not like when storylines are not wrapped up and there is one particular aspects that is left dangling. I understand that there is another book coming and I trust it will be handled within the sequel. As Kathleen’s books have many characters and multiple story lines, I wonder if I will retain the details from now until the next publication.

I eagerly await the next book.

What a set up for part two to come.
This series has held me captive and captivated for years now. While I consider myself staunchly anti religious I have a huge appreciate for the approach and perspective these books have on a Christianity, had this been my experience growing up and in my formative my spirituality could have gone in a very different direction. But I digress.

Anne Boyeln and the Tudor history has always been a favorite history of mine to study, the structure of McGowans newest installment really made that historical feel come to life. This was strikingly different vibe in comparison to the other three books of this series, more heavily focused on the past and the history there I can only assume that the sheer volume of research McGowan had been doing in the past 12 years is a contributing factor. While I would have loved to have read more from our favorite heroines perspective all that truly means is part 2 can’t come soon enough for me.

The time returns, I can only hope it’s expeditious in that arrival
