Throughout her life, Aimee has defied all odds to rise above legal challenges, custody battles, poverty, sexual abuse, and addiction. “We can be beacons of light"
Florida author Aimee Cabo Nikolov is a Cuban American who has lived most of her life in Miami. She is a trained nurse and the president and owner of IMIC, Inc, a medical research company. This memoir is her first book. Granted Aimee Cabo Nikolov is bright, well educated, and has extensive experience in fields medical so reading this memoir at first feels like settling back for a well written novel. But then those same traits that enhance her skillful writing talent gradually reveal her incredible abuse by her parents, the nightmares of sexual abuse, drug addiction, poverty all played out in a memoir that shares every moment yet is always accompanied by Aimee’s intensive spiritualism.
An example of her narrative skills is present in the relatively benign opening – ‘It was the last night before we were to go home from our week-long sister honeymoon. Nicole, the manager, and I went to a club to celebrate our departure. The hotel manager invited his friend, Dr. Vaises, who brought along another doctor friend, Dr. Boris. Dr. Boris turned out to be from Bulgaria and had wanted to leave his country during the post-communism struggle. Jobs there paid very little and there was much confusion on how to operate in a capitalist system. So he had found a job in the DR as the resort doctor while he was making up his mind about what his next steps would be, and I thought I heard he also rotated to other hotels in Punta Cana. It sounded like a nice job if you could land it, although I would learn it was low-paying work. Dr. Boris was making jokes with Dr. Vaises and casting curious and gentle looks at me. I was doing the same to him. He was tall and slender, and he had an unusually handsome boyish face, with dark laughing eyes. He was wearing glasses that gave him an intelligent look. But what struck me most was how polite he was with everyone. He was funny and interested in what other people were saying. He came over to where I was sitting and asked Nicole and me about ourselves. “We live in Miami,” I said, smiling. This man simply made me light up. I told him I was in school pursuing medicine and that my mother was a doctor. So was my step-father but I left that out for the time being. He was intrigued by this medical family. “So you know what we go through?” he said, teasing. “I do,” I laughed. “Especially the fake illnesses.” “Older lonely rich women get a lot of those down here.”
The horror of the content is well distilled in the synopsis: ‘ “Love is the Answer, God is the Cure” is the story of Aimee Cabo, who was in the Miami news for almost five years from 1989 to 1994 in a case the media named “The Case from Hell.” This sexual abuse case pitted her and her sister against her parents who denied all culpability. Life for some people can be cruel and for author Aimee Cabo Nikolov life was undoubtedly so. In her memoir God is the Cure, Love is the Answer, Nilolov tells her true life story in great detail.
The book is sometimes dark and sometimes extremely difficult to read, I had to put it down on a few occasions to compose myself, but it’s also at times an extremely enlightening story of faith, hope and love. Aimee takes sanctuary in her faith in God, which is what carries her to where she is today, a formidable woman with the strength and courage to turn her life around, even amongst the tragedies she so cruelly had to endure! Highly recommended.

God is the Cure, Love is the Answer by Aimee Cabo Nikolov is a memoir and story about the faith, love and an impassable strength she found in God and in herself. That faith and strength carried her through some of the most horrific times of her life. Nikolov details her story of survival in one of the most heartbreaking but yet also heartwarming memoirs I have ever read. This is a truly inspirational, unforgettable and emotional read, so if you are planning on reading this book I think you'll need keep the tissues handy.
The writing in the book is incredibly well done, especially dealing with such difficult issues there is a real composure to it all. If you have endured any kind of abuse in your life then I would recommend that you read this memoir, as it may just give you some hope, and show that no matter what life throws at you, with strength, love and faith you can not only overcome but you can grow and flouris. Through reading this I feel that against all the odds you can turn your pain into something that drives you to success and happiness.

Love is the Answer, God is the Cure is a story of how a young girl, Aimee Nogues, from age seven until her marriage to Bobbie in 2000, suffered physical, sexual and psychological abuse from those closest to her. It is a story of immense pain, deep despair, and emotional turmoil, but how holding onto a spiritual belief can provide hope and strength.
Aimee and her older sister Michelle, are two of nine children to Lisette and Andres Nogues that have lived in the Dominican Republic and now returned to Miami. Andres is a stepfather to Aimee and starts to abuse her from seven years old until at fifteen she and her elder sister, Michelle, leave their home on 23 September 1989, and call in the police and welfare to investigate child abuse. All remaining children are taken into welfare. This resulted in a criminal investigation, child welfare relocation, and a courtroom trial that became a media frenzy. It was major news, not only nationally in the US but internationally. It became known as the Case from Hell, where Lisette, the mother, claimed
Aimee leaves home again and falls into various relationships, drug abuse, escorting and stripping, the constant movement of places to live, and continued sexual abuse. Brent and his wife Candy, sue for custody of Danielle, and this becomes a continuous weary and costly battle over many years as they keep filing for custody. Aimee’s daughter is the one thing in her life she can’t lose.
As readers, our emotions are twisted through frustration, sympathy, outrage, concern, disgust and pity. The book is well structured as a story, and giving it two time periods helps break up what risked becoming a sequence of recited diary events. The two focal points of her life are the abused child from age seven growing up, and the woman that meets her husband and establishes a new life. The convergence of the story into a new fulfilling world is very well expressed. As a personal preference, I don’t think the title works well because it gives the impression of a doctrine-focused book, designed to deliver religious messages. It isn’t that. The religious connotations are reasonably subdued for the benefit of the book but it is clearly a source of immense strength for Aimee, so it should play a crucial part in her story.
We recognise the essential role a partner plays in our lives. When it’s wrong, it’s destructive and wretched. When it is right, it is supportive and happy. Aimee experiences both extremes in her life and the love of her husband is immeasurable. Her life with her husband isn’t without its challenges, but together they manage to get through these difficulties and establish a fulfilling life including having more children, financial security and a successful business.
As shocking, as this story is – it is the author's own story. I found it hugely inspiring and reminded that we should never give up, no matter how dark or difficult our problems get, there is always hope and a step forward.

During this period, Aimee became pregnant with her boyfriend Brent and returned to the family home to give her child, Danielle, somewhere to live, hoping the sexual abuse will have stopped. It didn’t!

God is the Cure, Love is the Answer by Aimee Cabo Nikolov is a dark, sad, heartbreaking and totally inspirational book of love, life and faith. Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and this story is a true testament to that indeed!
Aimee is an abuse survivor who against all odds overcomes her abusive past and her fight against drugs and alcohol addiction (amongst many other traumas) and the memoir provides, in great detail, just how she did this and the driving forces behind her decision making.
While soulful, touching and tender at times despite the sometimes difficult to read content, Amy’s writing is very good, and the story unfolds in a well put together way.

Aimee Cabo Nikolov has written a book that is ultimately a story of inspiration. The author shares the events of her life, a life that has been wrought with abuse, addiction, and turmoil. She writes about the balance she created between good and evil, by sharing her faith in God and the love in her heart.
There were moments that forced me to set the book down and just soak in what I had read, amazed by her determination to be a survivor, while feeling shocked by the amount of sexual, emotional, and mental abuse she endured, not to mention being neglected and, essentially, abandoned. The one person who should have put her arms around Aimee, who should have protected her from predators, like her stepfather, was just another person on the list of people who have deeply hurt her. Her mother chose to stand against Aimee, this I will never understand. As a mother, I wanted to reach into the book many times and pull her out, into safety.
Each chapter begins with a prayer, giving the reader insight into the strength of her beliefs, she does not hold back in allowing us into her life and who she really is as she maneuvers her way through one obstacle after another. My heart goes out to her. It is no wonder that addiction became part of her journey, she was searching for a way to numb herself. She has come out of the darkness and beaten evil countless times. She has had to fight for everything her whole life. And while most people would become tired of trying so hard, just to get pushed back down, Aimee shows that it can be done, you can win. Through love.
The author writes with an honesty that I am grateful for, because it is those details that allow me, as a reader, to understand the why’s, what’s, and how’s of her life. We are shown how strong her faith and love is, that her heart is in the center of all that she does. She has worked so hard to build her life and family. A little spoiler: she finds her happiness.
I was contacted by Aimee Cabo Nikolov and asked to read and review her book. I always feel honored when an author asks me to do this. Regardless of how I found this book, I will never forget Aimee’s story. It is powerful and heart-wrenching and inspirational. To know what she has survived to get where she is now, should give everyone hope for a better future. I would say this as an adult/mature audience book due to some slightly graphic details, but I would absolutely recommend this book.

I found this book so compelling, that once I had started I couldn’t put the book down until I had read the last sentence.
The life and experiences of Aimee, portrayed in the book, seem to be a continuum of troughs with very few peaks except towards the end of the book and even then, you are left with the feeling that this peace is fraught with a fragility that could come crashing down. It was a raw and deeply open account which filled me with a conflict of emotions ranging from horror, anger, disgust, sorrow and pity, and the betrayal experienced from the adults whose responsibility was to care for her.
I was at times, filled with frustration at the choices Aimee made, which just seemed to constantly bring her back into abusive situations. From her history, you would think why would you do that? Although, unless you’ve walked in those footsteps and experienced the early abuse, how can you really know what choices you would make, and how would you react or behave?
It brings in a question of nature versus nurture in the sense that it is the nurturing that we receive as children that help enforce and define huge parts of who and what we are as adults, where nature provides the attributes we are born with that give us the mental strength to cope with life. Growing up Aimee was deprived of maternal affection, with the constant threat of violence if she was seen to have stepped out of line, abused by a stepfather, other men, branded a liar, and failed by the systems and institutions in society which should have supported and protected her. It’s no surprise this would nurture self-loathing and little to no self-esteem or worth. However, her nature gave her the tools to fight against the overpowering and at times insurmountable odds.
It is obvious that the events scarred her for life and battles to remain afloat and not get swamped with remembering and reliving her ordeals. Yet she can compartmentalize it within the spheres of the mind and continue to live because she still has a life to live and a future to carve with her own family. A family life that would be so different from her upbringing and the abuse she endured.
I am amazed and delighted how strong she has been to fight addiction and the dark depths depression can take you. At this point, she has outlined very affectionately that this is only possible by the perseverance, unconditional and non-judgemental love given by her husband Bobbie, her immediate family and God.
Although I appreciate the great faith she has and how this has guided her through all the traumatic situations. As a reader, I feel the constant reference to prayers interfered with the flow of the story and were a distraction to the point I just ignored them. However, I do accept that this is a memoir and it was her faith and the prayers that were her mantra and her source of strength.

Aimee Cabo Nikolov grew up abused and battered while living with her biological mother and stepfather. She knows the face and touch of evil and she has battled this all her life starting from as a young elementary-age girl to a full-grown woman in her mid-twenties. Aimee describes the sexual abuse she suffers in great detail and one has to stomach the cruelty and obscene actions that her stepfather does to her while her terribly stoic and husband-defensive mother turns a blind eye and calls her a liar and a no-good little kid just looking for attention. Aimee’s life, when you read this book, is one of true survival and struggle and triumph! While a kid and a teenager, she goes to court to keep her mother and stepfather away from her but when she grows up to become a mother, the father of her first-born also gives her a tumultuous time by bringing up false claims about her while they go to court to determine who gets full custody of their daughter. This story will disgust you (because of the ongoing sexual abuse she undergoes) as well as make you teary-eyed (because of her lion-heart and her way of fighting for what is right and just in this cruel world of predators and haters).
I think you should read this book to witness what goes on behind the doors of some families in the world. That there are people who may look like they have it together in public but behind all that, they are suffering from sexual, physical, emotional, etc. abuse from those who are their very own family members. It was painful to read about Aimee and all that she goes through because from an early age she was exposed to sex, drugs, violence, and so and so. All of the adults that should have been there for her somehow just sweep her under the rug and give her the horrible treatment. I did find some of her doings to be questionable but then again this was a person who was abused at an early age and all I had to do was read on with a more understanding stance. What I truly admire about Aimee is her devotion to the Virgin Mary and God above all and how she always turns to prayer and those two for comfort and solace. It reminds me of myself as I too am always thinking of my Lord and my heavenly mother during times of personal pain and struggle. Aimee is Catholic and that’s why I could relate to her and her faith.
I would recommend this interesting book of endurance and endless struggle to all those who are in the same vein, who have been or are being sexually, physically, emotionally, etc. abused right now. That we can only turn to the Lord, a true and effective source of strength and victory to ease our burdens and our wounds and our sadness. I think you should read this book to witness what goes on behind the doors of some families in the world. That there are people who may look like they have it together in public but behind all that, they are suffering from sexual, physical, emotional, etc. abuse from those who are their very own family members. It was painful to read about Aimee and all that she goes through because from an early age she was exposed to sex, drugs, violence, and so and so. All of the adults that should have been there for her somehow just sweep her under the rug and give her the horrible treatment. I did find some of her doings to be questionable but then again this was a person who was abused at an early age and all I had to do was read on with a more understanding stance. What I truly admire about Aimee is her devotion to the Virgin Mary and God above all and how she always turns to prayer and those two for comfort and solace. It reminds me of myself as I too am always thinking of my Lord and my heavenly mother during times of personal pain and struggle. Aimee is Catholic and that’s why I could relate to her and her faith.
I would recommend this interesting book of endurance and endless struggle to all those who are in the same vein, who have been or are being sexually, physically, emotionally, etc. abused right now. That we can only turn to the Lord, a true and effective source of strength and victory to ease our burdens and our wounds and our sadness. Florida author Aimee Cabo Nikolov is a Cuban American who has lived most of her life in Miami. She is a trained nurse and the president and owner of IMIC, Inc, a medical research company. This memoir is her first book.
Granted Aimee Cabo Nikolov is bright, well educated, and has extensive experience in fields medical so reading this memoir at first feels like settling back for a well written novel. But then those same traits that enhance her skillful writing talent gradually reveal her incredible abuse by her parents, the nightmares of sexual abuse, drug addiction, poverty all played out in a memoir that shares every moment yet is always accompanied by Aimee’s intensive spiritualism.
An example of her narrative skills is present in the relatively benign opening – ‘It was the last night before we were to go home from our week-long sister honeymoon. Nicole, the manager, and I went to a club to celebrate our departure. The hotel manager invited his friend, Dr. Vaises, who brought along another doctor friend, Dr. Boris. Dr. Boris turned out to be from Bulgaria and had wanted to leave his country during the post-communism struggle. Jobs there paid very little and there was much confusion on how to operate in a capitalist system. So he had found a job in the DR as the resort doctor while he was making up his mind about what his next steps would be, and I thought I heard he also rotated to other hotels in Punta Cana. It sounded like a nice job if you could land it, although I would learn it was low-paying work. Dr. Boris was making jokes with Dr. Vaises and casting curious and gentle looks at me. What exactly is it which helps people to persevere through dark and challenging times? When the world seems as if it is upside down and filled with absolute anguish and grief. This situation will drive many people to their knees, with no hope of ever getting back up again. However, there are others who will not only rise- but actually grow stronger. With all the odds stacked against them, they still manage to survive and thrive. Instead of succumbing and capitulating to the heartbreaking circumstances, they do the exact opposite. Having experienced childhood sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather and the other various men in her life, Aimee finds herself fighting her parents in a highly publicized court battle. Denying all culpability, her parents try everything they can to depict Aimee as troubled and unstable. This is truly the nightmare of any abuse survivor as Aimee is virtually forced to relive her tortuous experiences.
Nevertheless, her difficulties do not end there. She also had to manage poverty, drug addiction, abuse and a very nasty custody battle over her daughter with an estranged ex-husband. Add to all of this the fact that Aimee had to work as an escort to survive, and almost saw her daughter murdered by a tenant, and you are able to perceive the true depth and appalling nature of the obstacles she has struggled to overcome. The question which then arises is how can one person possibly hope to survive such struggles and persevere through what appear to be insurmountable odds? In truth, that is really what this memoir is all about.
Throughout all of the turmoil which Aimee had to endure, it has been her faith in God which has seen her through. That has been the great equalizer. As an illustration of the true depth of her belief, each chapter in the book begins with a prayer. This certainly helps the reader understand how someone can undergo such a tragic and excruciatingly painful experience and still be able to see the positive and beauty in life. This is a very powerful message which will certainly resonate with the vast majority of readers.
The writing in the book is also quite crisp and clear. Apart from the actual subject matter, it is a relatively easy read as the ideas flow into one another quite well. There is also a great balance of despair and faith. As readers, we are able to feel Aimee’s pain along with her- but also get to experience her new sense of hope and joy. This balance works exceedingly well and helps to keep the reader glued to the pages.
Since this book is written in the first-person, we get to know the various characters through Aimee’s eyes. This in turn means that our understanding and view of many different individuals is pretty much in line with the author’s perspective. It could certainly be argued that this in turn generates somewhat flat and unreliable characters. However, the nature of a personal memoir is to get into the author’s mind in order to better understand their motivations, perceptions, thoughts and emotions. I believe this to be exceptionally well done in this book as it all appears to be authentic, genuine and quite raw. Aimee Cabo Nikolov did not hold anything back in this book!
Overall I enjoyed this memoir immensely. I found it to be heart-wrenching… yet very inspirational. My hope is that it provides further healing to a very strong woman, and also hope to many others who may be suffering under similar circumstances. I highly recommend this book to adult audiences only as there are some very graphic scenes.

Love is the Answer, God is the Cure by Aimee Cabo Nicolov is an emotional and heart rending story. The author has certainly had to endure a lot, yet created a new life for herself. You can never predict when certain events in life change everything forever, and this holds true for the author. Aimee tells her story in a heartfelt way, from enduring terrible sexual abuse as a child, to being homeless, to substance abuse. Custody battles also took their toll over time while she was fighting for her first daughter. This book reads as a tragedy that turns into the consummate love story. She overcame terrible odds and created a wonderful life. Aimee writes with clarity, faith, and an openness that is hard to find. You will enjoy this true story with all of its beauty and positive spirit. Strong recommendation.

If you like "A Boy Called 'It'" I'm pretty sure you'll like this book, too. It's the autobiographical account of a life so horrible that it's almost hard to believe except that in my counseling practice I have run across a few--just a few--clients with similar backgrounds so I find this woman's account entirely credible. Plus her story in internally consistent, from a psychology perspective. But if you had any semblance of a functional or decent childhood, it will be hard to fathom that anyone can survive a life like this.
This book will be valuable for anyone who's curious about how childhood abuse can continue to destroy a person for their rest of their lives if untreated. It's very easy to read (the writing style, that is) so it should also appeal to anyone who likes to read cathartic stories. And I hope the peace she finds by the end of the book is a lasting one.

Aimee Cabo Nikolov’s Love is the Answer God is the Cure is not what I was expecting. It’s a heart-wrenching real life account of one woman’s struggles against the odds stacked against her throughout her life and the salvation of finding true love.
Nikolov has gone through so much, all chronicled here. As a reader I was stunned by each additional hurdle she was faced with. In a horror novel a character may be relentlessly pursued by the stuff of nightmares but Nikolov had this for real. I couldn’t help but feel for her, although her writing never comes across as attention-seeking or like she’s competing to be seen as worse off than anyone else.
Despite its contents this is not a depressing read, but a story of courage and of a journey and it shows that love can ultimately triumph.

The book Love is the Answer God is the Cure depicts the difficult life of the author Aimee Cabo Nikolov, who has been abused as a child for many years by her stepfather. Subsequently she was pitted against the whole world during the 5 years trial that was named "The case from hell" by the journalists covering it. Her own mother didn't believe her which devastated her.
Despite this unimaginable suffering she survived after that a 14 years custody battle, struggle with addiction and the near killing of her daughter by a tug that rented a room from her on Craigslist.
This book is an inspirational story that shows how Aimee's faith and perseverance guided her to form a loving family with the man of her dreams.
I sincerely recommend this book to anybody, it is a page turner.

A profoundly moving book
Wow! What a journey inward, this book really asks you to take a look at yourself and the world around you and appreciate each moment. I am not a huge fan of self help or spiritual books but this one is different. You don't feel like you are being force-fed to drastically change your life, it's more of an understanding about who you are and what you want in life that propels this book. The language is easy to read and digest and you often find yourself questioning and thinking about the importance your own self-worth and those around you. I would recomend reading this book to anyone who feels like they have strayed from the path of happiness, the book is insightful, delightful, and eye opening! A must read!!!!

"I did not know that a young girl who has no sense of self and is pretty, just evokes a kind of predatory sexuality in men who are as weak themselves."
I'm not much of a memoir person, but this testimony needed to be told and I'm glad I had the opportunity to read it. Fair warning: this book is very intense, especially for readers who may have experienced the same traumas as the author. The blunt, straightforward writing is what makes it so compelling, and the author's strength is simply unparalleled.

This was a sad story and I feel bad about what happened to the author but I like the inspirational message in this book as well. It gives me hope that there are better days ahead.

This is a book packed with such genuine emotion and tragedy, put also layered with strength and, most importantly, hope. The strength and bravery exhibited by the author to put behind her everything she has gone through, but also to put it down in a book to help others is so uplifting and inspirational.
I recommend this book to anyone who has suffered in any way, and if you are one of the lucky ones without darkness in your past then I recommend you read it too, as you will undoubtedly have loved ones who suffered and this helps gain perspective on that.

Aimee Nikolov wrote a great inspirational memoir here. The spirituality here quite literally saved Aimee’s life, this is a story about persevering despite extreme forces acting against her. Love carried her forward, and faith fueled her.

Essentially this is an autobiography of a woman who I would definitely describe as a survivor. Although the title includes God, there is actually minimal religious content. Each chapter starts with a prayer, psalm or bible quote and in the final chapter Aimee describes how she began to pray and use rosary beads daily and that’s about it really. The main focus of her story is how everything changed (for the better) when she met the love of her life. The author has had an incredibly difficult life and had to endure a succession of awful events and situations. She describes her life from an early age, suffering physical and sexual abuse, followed by everything imaginable, including rape, high profile court cases, public vilification, hospitalisation, post-traumatic stress disorder, drug addiction, attempted suicide and custody battles. If you want to read about love conquering adversity this book is for you!

This is a shocking story on a number of levels. Aimee Cabo reveals herself to be a pillar of strength as she opens up about her horrendous life journey and her triumph over her pain. This book had an engaging story, despite being hard to read at times. Cabo's life has been filled with upsetting and traumatic obstacles, yet she managed to overcome these challenges due to the love of her husband and children and her solid religious faith. Cabo is very brave to allow herself to be so vulnerable, yet so strong to be able to share her story.

Reading the title of this memoir, one might think it bears a heavier reliance on religious practices, and chronicles adherence for success in life. The title, however, is more a response to the overwhelming challenge recounted in this author's experience, and ultimately an answer. Ms. Nikolov describes in excruciating, (occasionally unnecessarily so) detail the experiences of living in a home fraught with the horrors of physical abuse and extreme sexual violence levied by both parents, apparently in cahoots. The story continues, displaying the permanent destruction brought about in the author's life by this dark start to her life, through drug and alcohol addiction, prostitution, and depression. It struggles in part with too many details about family issues which the reader gets at the beginning, as well as a slow resolution to the story. However, the author presents a unique twist just as it seems the story is ending, involving new horror, but this time involving another family member demonstrating the generational affects of abuse and assault on one's children. It culminates with a positive outlook and hope for the future. Ms. Nikolov displays a strong character, for adult readers, but not recommended for younger readers.

When there was no other comfort for her, she found God – her love for him helped her to find love for others and receive love in return. However, there was more tragedy to come, when her daughter was brutally attacked by a Craig's List tenant.
This is the remarkable story of a remarkable family. Whereas tragedy often has the ability to drive families apart, this family has such an extraordinary bond, that they have weathered storms that would destroy so many others. You don't need to be a believer in God to relate to Aimie and her family's strength. They drew their power and inspiration from their faith in God, but it shows that you don't need to get pulled down by past tragedies, you can find a way out of it, with the help of God or in other ways.

This is a heart-wrenching memoir about the authors everyday struggle of surviving childhood abuse and sexual assault throughout her life. She has had a hard life - being shunned by family, homeless, drugs, custody battles, etc. - and yet she persevered.
This book seems like a coping mechanism, a way to tell her story to many. How she persevered through it all, I could not imagine, but she always kept faith even through the worst of times.
If you like to read stories of survivals, you will enjoy this book. It is easy to read, but does at times overlap timelines. But all in all, this story is a must read to learn about how childhood abuse and sexual assault can affect someone’s life forever and how with a little faith and love things can turn around.
This book seems like a coping mechanism, a way to tell her story to many. How she persevered through it all, I could not imagine, but she always kept faith even through the worst of times.

This is a great book. I can relate in a lot of ways and it was very hard to see it in black and white. The abuse is very difficult to read. But I felt like I must get through it. The book has so much feeling and honesty. This author took a leap of faith by telling her story. She is very brave, that which most of us be too scary to even think of how many children this is happening today. Great book if you can handle the triggers and want to see some hope in the future.

“Love Is The Answer God Is The Cure” by Aimee Cabo Nikolov is the very tragic and at the same time very inspirational story of a woman who not only survived but prevailed against all odds. I don’t know if many individuals would be able to endure what Aimee did and still live to tell about it. Her story of abuse, drugs, poverty and neglect is sadly one that happens all too often in our world today.
As a former psychologist, this unbelievable horror, even for me, was unfathomable. As in Aimee’s story, it often happens in our own families and backyard. I applaud the author for having the strength to share her story so others might find their own strength to go on, and also for utilizing her faith to eventually find love and hope.
The author’s story was in all major media outlets in Miami for almost five years. There were those who wouldn’t believe her very descriptive accounts of sexual abuse by her step-father, friend and other family members. Her mother denied any abuse emotional, verbal, physical or sexual by her or her husband. Readers will be stunned at how easily family members turned against Aimee and her sister Michelle. In one foster home, the husband, a detective, raped her while his wife was out of the house.
My daughter lived in an abusive relationship like this for seven years, and like many readers, I asked, why? There is no one answer to that question. Abusers are very cunning. I am truly amazed at how well Aimee was able to survive mentally and physically with all she endured. All I can say is “Good for you, Aimee.”
This devastating true story is very graphic, so I do caution readers early on. But I don’t think she could have written it any other way. Each chapter begins with a prayer which shows the love and strength she has in her faith. I chose to read this book a little at a time, as I found it to be overwhelming to read all at once.
The author has written with honesty and passion, and above all else, has given readers hope if they or someone they know is experiencing this type of situation. Her story educates readers about abuse and family neglect and is truly inspirational. Hopefully, it will provide readers with a better insight into those who are in this position and how, most of all, we should not judge.
I highly recommend “Love Is The Answer God Is The Cure” by Aimee Cabo Nikolov for all individuals working in the professional field, family members, and women over the age of 14.

Love is the Answer, God is the Cure is an extremely moving account of the author’s difficult life. ‘Difficult’ doesn’t really cut it – you just couldn’t make this stuff up! Coming from a terribly dysfunctional family, living in the Dominican Republic, without a father, traumatised, abused both physically and emotionally, having to fight for the right to keep her own child and falling again and again for the same lies and hurt, Aimee’s memoir is something I couldn’t put down.
Only faith in a God who keeps giving her signs of love and hope could get Aimee through the self-hatred, depression and shame she felt. It’s an amazing testimony to that love, but also to the strength of character against all the odds that Aimee shows, coming back time and time from the brink of self-destruction. Reading this honest and vulnerable book makes you realise what human beings are capable of – both the evil and the good. A terrific and ultimately heart-warming read!

Love is the Answer, God is the Cure by Aimee Cabo Nicolov is an emotional and heart rending story. The author has certainly had to endure a lot, yet created a new life for herself. You can never predict when certain events in life change everything forever, and this holds true for the author. Aimee tells her story in a heartfelt way, from enduring terrible sexual abuse as a child, to being homeless, to substance abuse. Custody battles also took their toll over time while she was fighting for her first daughter. This book reads as a tragedy that turns into the consummate love story. She overcame terrible odds and created a wonderful life. Aimee writes with clarity, faith, and an openness that is hard to find. You will enjoy this true story with all of its beauty and positive spirit. Strong recommendation.

September 26, 2018Fair warning, this book is intense. I would not recommend someone younger than eighteen years of age to give this a read unless they do so with a parent. This book was crushing and harsh in both good ways and bad. This real-life story of a woman who was constantly abused and mistreated will open the eyes of readers to the way the real world behaves more times than not. The message in this book about strong faith and trust in God, despite going through horrific trauma, will astonish you in ways not thought possible. I admire this author for being so candid in giving us her life story. I hope readers walk away from this book with both a compassion and more of an understanding of what many young women and girls possibly face on a daily basis.
