I'm wobbling between giving this two stars and three stars. I liked the story well enough, I suppose, as very, very light fare, but there were things about the book that bothered me.

I guess the biggest of what bothered me was that I wasn't sure how I felt about the way it was done. I like the mermaid premise (I like mermaids, period), and I'm a big fan of almost anything that involves mermaids, but I had this uneasy feeling about the entire tone of the book. Certainly, it doesn't take itself seriously and has a lot of really neat plays on words and on well-known idiomatic phrases, and with all the sea creatures able to talk and the more-magic-than-science sense of the world-building, it had that lighthearted, fun 2D animated feel to it, like in Disney's The Little Mermaid. That on its own is fine, but when the erotic romance flavors are woven in, the explicit sex scenes you normally find in many romances today, it somehow felt wrong, like it was a clash of the two most disparate, most polar opposite of all genres — children's fiction and erotic romance. It made me feel really uncomfortable at times, especially considering that there's a child character in the story — it felt like it needed more of a general PG vibe throughout, like in Disney's Splash, instead of this weird mash of G rating and NC-17 rating, like it would have been better without the sex, or if kissing was the farthest the hero and heroine got in the book. Or, if it was going to have sex in it, it should have been a darker, more haunting kind of tale, with no children or talking animals in it. I don't know. I'm sure it's just me.

The second biggest bother for me in the book was the formatting in the Kindle edition. I don't know what it was that did it, but at least one word on every page would be broken up into two words, so that you got something like:

"Talk about dam aging the planet."

...where it should have been:

"Talk about damaging the planet."

Sometimes the words breaking up like that was all to comic effect, but it certainly wasn't intentional, and worse, it was distracting.

All in all, though, it was cute, and for the most part, a fun read. Just keep the sex away from any Disney-like story, and I'm fine.

Reading the back cover of this book is a bit like revisiting a favorite friend. At last, it’s Angel’s turn – the Mer (not mermaid) sister who’s always been so intrigued by humans in Judi Fennell’s previous books.

When Logan Hardington finds the beautiful Angel (now with legs rather than fins) hiding on his boat it certainly seems like the Catch of a Lifetime. The fact that she’s naked (she is a Mer after all) and his six-year-old son is standing on the pier is a bit of a problem, but Logan just loans her his shirt – what an honorable man.

Angel’s struggles to understand human society, despite all her studies, provide for fascinating and amusing mistakes as Logan takes her shopping for clothes. And author Judi Fennell, knows just how to write those mistakes into delightful dialog, keeping the reader smiling and eager for more. Meanwhile, of course, Logan makes his own mistakes, and the path of true love never runs smooth, especially not when the sharks lying in wait are real ones with real fins and evil intent.

The novel includes all Judi Fennell’s trademark creatures and puns, plus a delightful young child in Logan’s son, and some fascinating questions about the willingness of children to believe, and adults to disbelieve their ears and eyes. Greek mythology is neatly woven in, providing intriguing reasons to ponder free will, care for the planet, and the way large changes start with tiny steps. Catch of a Lifetime is a fun and worthy follow-up to In Over Her Head and Wild Blue Under and a very enjoyable romance.

Such a cute story! Although I agree with the reader that said it would have been better without the sex.... Other than that it reads a bit like a Disney movie, in the best possible way. Very imaginative and well thought out.

Judi Fennell’s fun, lighthearted series comes to an end with this book, and there’s a little more seriousness in this one than the previous two. I think that’s probably why it’s my favorite of the three. There’s still the whimsical aspect of life under the ocean, sea monsters and all, but when it comes to life and death in this book, it has a little more impact than its predecessors.

I think that has to do with the fact that a child is involved in this story. Children always seem to pull at the heart strings with their vulnerabilities but stiff upper lip facade, all the while their chin quivers as they hold back emotion. You can’t help but love them and hope all turns for the best. Michael is no different in this case.

But let’s start at the beginning. Angel is the sister of Rod and Reel (I still can’t help but chuckle a little when referring to those twin brothers), who are the heroes of the first two books. She’s always been fascinated with humans. But Rod, now High Councilman of Atlantis, won’t even give her an interview for the coalition he’s proposing to finally let humans know all about their existence, in hopes of cleaning up the planet of its pollutants. So she’s going to prove to him and the rest of the council she’s the woman for the job. What she doesn’t count on is Harry the Hammerhead.

Finding a beautiful, sleeping woman on his boat is the last thing Logan expects, his reaction to her the next least expected thing. As much as he’d like to explore that reaction, his six-year-old son is now living with him after being dumped by his mother, so he puts a damper on the libido and tries to get rid of the woman fast. That doesn’t quite work when Michael gets a look at her and she ends up being the boy’s babysitter. And working her way into Logan’s heart.

Having taken refuge on Logan’s boat when Harry spies her as a late-night snack, she immediately becomes quite smitten with Logan, the best specimen of a human she’s ever seen. And Michael works his magic on her too. But when Logan finds out Angel is Mer, his logic flies out the window and he demands she get out his life for good. With nowhere else to turn, Angel goes home to face the Council, knowing her fate is dim due to all of the laws she’s broken in associating with Logan and Michael.

But it’s Michael who can’t bear the loss of Angel and goes in search of her under the ocean with the help of a shark looking for dinner. Logan quickly follows to rescue his son, Angel intercepts him, taking the blame for the current circumstances, and they find themselves trapped by the ugliest monster from the sea’s depths. So they must work together to save the child, even though Angel knows their survival is slim to none.

I’m a sucker for father and son stories and Ms. Fennell does a good job of getting the roiling emotions running through both Logan and Michael as they learn about each other. Angel is the princess who’s gotten everything any girl could want, except what she wants most, or at least she thought so. Things change quickly for both Logan and Angel, ups and downs along the way, heading for their happily-ever-after.

This was an enjoyable series and Catch of a Lifetime tops it off quite well. The series doesn’t take itself too seriously, though. It’s to be read to take away the doldrums, not as a heavy, full-of-platitudes book you have to concentrate on. Take it for what it is and you’ll have fun with it.

I received an ARC from my PR book club, so I had a chance to read "Catch of a Lifetime" by Judi Fennell ahead of its release schedule. The book has romance, adventure, and humor that has become a staple in the Tritone Trilogy.

This last installment of the Tritone Trilogy details the adventures of the Mer Angel, sister to both Reel and Rod, who is trying to become head of the Human Coalition to save the planet. Along the way she meets Logan, a single father and totally human male, who takes her into his home as a babysitter with no knowledge of where Angel really comes from. Angel is willing to do anything it takes to better her cause, only she doesn't suspect some of the various sea creatures of plotting against her nor does she expect to fall for Logan either. Both Logan and Angel have to be careful not to get swept away by their emotions when Logan lives on the land and Angel belongs to the sea.

I would have to say that I liked this book to a point, but I liked "Wild Blue Under" a bit better because the Rod's story was more adventurous, romantic, and humorous than Angel's. While there was adventure, romance, and humor, Angel and Logan just didn't really meld well together. They had a lot in common on when it came to their emotions, but they had a lot missing when it came to their ideas and beliefs. I'm actually surprised to see the end of this particular series, but Ms. Fennell did do a good job of wrapping up the series very well!

Catch of a Lifetime is the 3rd book in Judi Fennell's series about Mers, her name for mermaids and mermen. The book stands on its own, but it helps to have read the prior books in the series, Over Her Head and Wild Blue Under. The books are romance novels, which I normally don't read, but I got to know Judi through our writing group, The Writing Wombats, and she tells a very good story, which led me to read this series and many of her short stories.

In this novel, Logan, who lives in a boat on the edge of the ocean, meets Angel, a beautiful woman who pushes all of Logan's buttons. Most men would love to have a naked, gorgeous woman show up on their boat, but Logan has just begun to take care of his six-year-old son, Michael, and Angel is a big time complication. Naturally, Angel and Logan are attracted to each other, but can it really work out when a human falls for a woman from the sea?

Judi takes us along on a topsy-turvy ride as the Angel and Logan get to know each other better. At the same time, Logan discovers more secrets about his son Michael, whose mother, Rainbow aka Christine, had abruptly dropped Michael off with Logan, her ex-boyfriend. Logan tries hard to do the right things for Michael and ignore the siren song of Angel, but he seems to be making mistakes at every turn. In the meantime, Angel is getting into deep trouble for breaking the rules about Mer contact with humans.

Catch of a Lifetime has a nice pace and develops characters we grow to care about. The ending feels a bit rushed, but brings the many threads of this story to a satisfying conclusion.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I love Judi Fennell’s writing.

Catch of a Lifetime is the third book in the Tritone Trilogy about Mer (folk). In Fennell’s first two books, we were introduced to two brothers. Angel, the heroine of Catch of a Lifetime was featured in both those stories and now we get to see her find a love of her own. She’s a little wild and eccentric. She’s also obsessed by human culture and wanting to save the planet—which is what ultimately lands in her the way of Logan.

All Logan wants is a normal life, something he was deprived of as a child. Angel is definitely not considered normal…so therein lies the problem. I can’t forget Michael, Logan’s son. He takes to Angel immediately (he also knows her SECRET). Both Logan and Angel have a hard time with choices they are forced to make—each clearly aware of their impact on poor little Michael. Throw in a little drama, like a vengeful hammerhead shark and a sea witch, and you have the perfect Mer love story.

I thought this book was the most serious one in the trilogy, giving it more romance than humor—but that’s a good thing. It worked well and was the right tone for Angel and Logan. I don’t know if Judi Fennell plans on going back to revisit the rest of the Tritone siblings (there are a couple more), but I know I’ll definitely be reading their stories if she does!

If you want romance and fun (and lots of talking creatures)…you MUST read Judi Fennell…

Another one I got free from amazon....they are being exceptionally nice at the moment :) This one reminded me a lot of the little mermaid. Angel is a Mer (dont say mermaid...apparently that is a big no-no!) who wants the job as liason between humans and sea-life to talk about the pollution in the sea. She ends up on the boat of Logan, a man who is trying to build a relationship with the 6 year old child he just found out he has. Michael (the child) knows Angel is a mermaid and agrees to keep it secret (once the sea water dries the tail becomes legs). Logan and Angel are very attracted to each other (helped by the fact that when he finds her she is naked and also that she manages to accidently bewitch him with a sirens song whilst singing happy birthday to michael) but she knows it can never be because he doesnt know what she truely is. We spend the first 3/4 of the book with Angel trying not to fall in love with Logan and trying to hide from her brother (who doesnt know where she is). Then disaster strikes and Mike goes missing in the sea so they have to team up (with her as a Mer) to get to him

I loved it. It was original, funny (especially the secondary charcaters). it isnt the first in the series and I think I need to read the first one and re-review when I have got some of the references that are in this book. Well recommended but start with the first one! I will be looking out for more by this author

A story half-set in an undersea mermaid's world. Absolutely so bad, it's entertaining. If the author meant this as camp, she's brilliant.

There's an amazing sea-human fusion dialect:
"So we're not going to eat her?" Lou, a hunter lured out of retirement by the promise of a royal tar get, started frothing at the mouth—never a good sign. "Then why the fuck did you trawl me along, Har? This is bullsharkshit."

There are manly human men: "...Angel turned around and — Hit a wall. And not the plastered kind. The tall, dark, and handsome kind."

And sexy mermaid ladies:
"He knew that, yet he couldn't get her out of his mind. Did that mean he was out of his? She has a tail. He knew that, too, but her tail didn't stop him from remembering how she'd looked in this very same moonlight, in his bed. The way she'd made him feel, the way she'd made love to him."

Sexy mermaids-now-humans falling in love with human men:
"She didn't want to care this much about him. There was so much about Logan Hardington to admire. So much to respect. So much to love. No. She didn't. She couldn't. It was too quick. Too early. Too soon. Too wrong. Too right. Her knees buckled and she had to brace herself against the railing. Apparently Human legs weren't as sturdy as she'd assumed."

And some questionable sex scenes as we wonder if mer-human-girls actually have vaginas
""Inside, Logan," she whispered. "I want you inside me."

I loved this book. It caught me from the first chapter when Logan finds Angel butt-naked asleep on his boat with his 6 year old son coming up the dock. The mishaps from Angel having legs for the first time in her life (she's a mermaid) are just laugh out loud funny. Lucky for her, Michael is a talkative boy and gives her all kinds of information without her having to ask questions that would give her away. Of course, Michael knows she's a mermaid but his father doesn't.

Of course, the book is full of fishisms but they aren't irritating in this installment. They kind of flow with the book instead of standing out so sharply as in the other two. I really liked Ginger (the flamingo). She was just too funny especially when she was giving the lizard a talking too!

It's never good when there is too much conflict or not enough but this one has just the right amount of conflict for a romance novel. I really liked the ending as Logan finally takes his head out of his butt and does the right thing. Just a wonderful, easy to read book with terrific characters. This is supposed to be the final book of the trilogy but there are still 2 sisters too go so maybe, just maybe, we'll get another installment to complete the family dynamics.

Angel Tritone is the youngest of the Tritone clan. She wants to make a name for herself and prove to her brother Rod that she should be in charge of the Coalition. Angel knows if she can pull off her latest research then her brother will have to give her the job. Angel leaves home in an effort to study humans and their behavior. She hopes to also save the marine life. While out conducting her research, Angel gets chased by a shark, She climbs aboard a boat to safety.

Being a single dad isn’t easy for Logan. Though, Logan loves Michael with all his heart. When Logan finds a naked woman on his boat, he believes she must be an angel as she is beautiful. How will Logan react when he discovers the truth about Angel?

The best and worst thing about this series is that it ended with a great, big splash and the worst thing is…that this series has come to an end. I have enjoyed joining Reel, Erica, Rod, Valerie, Angel and Logan and their adventures with the deep blue sea. Angel and Logan make the perfect couple. The chemistry they shared was so hot that I needed a cool drink of water. I have to admit though that Michael stole the show for me. He was so cute. I only have one last word and that is…you better pick up a copy of Catch of a Lifetime before it swims off the bookshelves!

Ms. Fennell's third underwater adventure opens with Harry the Hammerhead shark in swift pursuit of mermaid Angel Tritone. To escape him, she climbs onto the deck of a gently bobbing boat.

Logan Hardington is almost speechless when he sees the young nude woman sleeping on his deck the next morning. Although he would like to do more than just look, he quickly covers her up with a blanket so his young son doesn't get more than an eyeful.

Logan's young son is determined to have a mermaid for his birthday and ensures that his dad lets Angel stay. Angel has spent researching humans for quite some time, and this is a great opportunity for her. But she can't forget that she has to visit the sea at least once every two days or she will lose her tail forever. She takes to babysitting for young Michael, and trying to keep her wits and heart intact around the handsome Logan.

Filled with Ms. Fennell's trademark of animated, human speaking characters, and a sweet love story, Catch of a Lifetime is a fantastic addition to the series. Logan and Angel are wonderful well-rounded characters who complement each other wonderfully. You'll want to dive into Catch of a Lifetime and won't want to let go. Simply enchanting!

Humans are wreaking havoc on the ocean. Angel is a mermaid who is determined to stop the destruction. When a shark tries to make Angel it's meal, she narrowly escapes by hopping into a boat. The boat belongs to Logan and he cannot believe his luck. Like any good father, Logan wants to give his son Michael what he wants most in the world. It just so happens that what Michael wants has found it's way into Logan's boat. That's right, Michael wants a real mermaid. This couldn't have worked out more perfectly. Angel is ready to recruit people to fight for her cause and Logan might be the inspiration she needs to get started. The more Logan and Angel learn about each other, the more they realize that they are kindred spirits. When Angel's life is in jeopardy, Logan must decide between the comfort and familiarity of singleness or to give his all for the woman he loves.

I'm addicted! I loved the creativity that was necessary to write such a book. Judi is a master of romance and fantasy. If you are a fan of romance and want something different than your average human loving human story, I recommend Judi's books.

This book was cute. There might have been times when it was too cute for me. But, then, I like dark books. And this book? Not dark. I did thoroughly enjoy the word games the author used on common phrases to make them more nautical underwater-y aquatic (that one might work) marine-friendly. Of course, I can't think of a single one at the moment, but they gave me a giggle.

While I ultimately liked the book, it really was a little too much on the cute side for me. there wre times when Angel's almost flippant attitude made me want to smack my forehead and groan. I didn't, but I wanted to. Now, I should probably mention at this point that I haven't read the first two books in the series so it's highly possible that her attitude (which at times felt very self-absorbed) had some backstory to it. Or maybe not. Like I said, I didn't read the others in the series so I don't know.

Anyway. I did like it, it's just not one I've gone gaga over. Folks who like their paranormal romance on the lighter side will likely enjoy it.

Hmmm... So we have a Mer female (mermaid, OK?) and a human man for a switch. And the sea monster - again. And Rod is still a stick, and, and, and....

So here's the burning question - if the High Counselor is granted immortality, as is his heir, and any daughters upon marriage.... Where are our heroine's grandparents? Aunts? Well?

So what did I actually think of the book? Meh. Oh, it had its moments. It also had its moments of eye rolling, etc. Won't get into the h's mental proselytizing about the hazards of plastic and other assorted things other than to say it's a bit hypocritical for an author to be preaching environmentalism in a dead tree book. And I find it ironic that in this book, the theme seems to be that children are more accepting of Mers than adults, yet in the first book, the h was "traumatized" because she saw a couple of Mer children while swimming. This may be the only trilogy in existence where the middle was the best of the series, although that's mostly because it was the most balanced.

Catch of a Lifetime is the third in Judi Fennell's series with the Mer. I liked this one best of all, largely because of Angel Tritone. This time, the woman in the romance is the Mer and she's organized, powerful, and caring.

Her mission of improving Mer-Human relations to reduce pollution makes sense and it's interesting to read her reactions to life on land. Her fascination with the "girly things" like fabrics and all sorts of clothes that aren't waterlogged is pretty funny as well. Her love interest Logan is also likable as he struggles with suddenly becoming a single parent and trying to win the child's affection.

Overall, Catch of a Lifetime is a fun, light romantic read with a twist of the unusual.

This was a free book on my Droid Kindle, so I checked it out. I liked it enough that it makes me want to check out the first 2 of the series, and I'm sure there will be one more as well. It was a fun story, though some things were slightly annoying. Like the fact that it seemed over half the book was just the characters thinking about how attracted they were to each other. That whole thing about men thinking about sex every few seconds? Apparently Mer (as they're called in this book) do too. So it was cute, and written well enough for me to get "hooked" into the story line (no pun intended), but don't go looking for great writing or emotional depth on this one. Just a fun, sexy story about humans and mermaids - with just enough preaching about humans polluting the environment to make you feel that the Mermaid really did care about it.

The final installment of the Tritone trilogy was just ok. There's nothing special about it really. Like the first 2 books of the series, this one is just the same as the two.

Yes, Mers are supposed to be enchantresses, temptresses and downright gorgeous from head to foot but I was hoping something deeper would come from this book -- something not shallow and superficial despite their gorgeous looks and sweet voice. But meh. Like Reel and Rod, their significant other fell in love with them because hey, they're both a catch and so was Angel. I think there's a pun in her name just like Reel and Rod's.

But still, there's enough action and romance that kept me going. I was not thrilled with the superficiality thing of it. I'm so tired of coming across a book who cannot see pass a person/character's looks whether he/she is ugly or incredibly gorgeous.

This was an ok read, though.

Angel is the youngest Tritone sibling and is out to prove herself and to her brother Rod. After being almost attacked by a shark Angel wakes to find herself naked and on the boat of hunky Logan Hardington. She realizes this is her chance to learn more about humans and maybe even help the planet.

Catch of a Lifetime is a heart warming tale. Angel and Logan's story is filled with wonderment and adventure. They have a great connection that is hard to deny. Not to mention sizzling hot! I have really loved, the series as a whole. Especially the first book, In Over Her Head. Ms. Fennell has created a delightful world that, I have enjoyed escaping to. It is both dangerous and fun. If you like mermaid stories and don't mind talking sea creatures, I definitely recommend giving this one a try.

This is my favorite so far and a large part of that is due to Angel, she has a child like innocence in her quest to learning about humans. Knowing her brother is blocking her life long dream to work with humans she takes the chance when one presents itself when she is hooked by Michael. The first day she is with Michael and Logan has me laughing with all of the misunderstandings that happened or came close to happened. The chemistry between Angel and Logan was fantastic and made for some really great scenes. I also loved being able to see Ceto again, knowing that when she appears mischief would follow. I loved the resolution to all the problems that occurred in this book and thought them were very fitting.

Aside from the, ahem, adult themes, I'd say this was a good YA novel, though it's not marketed as such for obvious reasons. Very light reading. I enjoyed the second half much more than the first.

Also, despite the research she put into marine life, there was one passage where a bird was chiding a lizard for its dinosaur ancestors and how birds are so much better - well anyone who's read anything about dinosaurs in the last 10-15 years would have known that scientists now believe *birds* to be the modern descendants of dinosaurs, not reptiles. Don't know why, but that passage really annoyed me.

As I read Catch of a Lifetime, I’m suddenly reminded of the movie Splash. You know, the one with Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah? But of course the characters in this book oh sooooo much hotter (yeah…Tom Hanks just doesn’t do it for me…lol). Although I COULD imagine Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson in this one. They’re such hot “beachy” people! LOL

Book 3 of the Tritone trilogy, Catch of a Lifetime, was a cute read with an adorable little boy and hot papa that will have you reeled in from the beginning.

Not a bad end to the Tritone series, or is it possible there might be another sequel (with all the comotion Mariana was making about not understanding what her siblings see in humans...)? The series was a fun, easy read, and out of all the books this one would most likely be my favorite. Things seemed to progress at a good speed, and I enjoyed the characters (Angel, Logan and Michael). I do wish, though, that Logan and Angel had been able to talk about both of their works together, since it seemed they had similar green feelings towards the environment.
