One Tree Hill: #1 The Beginning

Rate this book
ONE TREE HILL is the latest Dawson's-style hit on The WB. The young cast -- including CINDERELLA STORY star Chad Michael Murray -- is tremendously appealing and commands a huge teen following.

Lucas Scott is a moody rebel. Nathan Scott is a privileged preppy. Luke grew up poor, on the outskirts of town. Nathan grew up wealthy and owns the town. Now the two half brothers are basketball teammates and sometime rivals for the same girl. And they're about to face off for the first time, on the court and off.

One thing's for sure: Their lives - and the lives of everyone around them - will never be the same.

Scholastic's debut novelization takes readers deeper into the backstory and exposes secrets viewers have yet to learn.

One Tree Hill: The Beginning is a great book; however it was dealing with intense high school content. When I first grabbed this book, I had no idea what it was about. When I started reading it, I was thinking about abandoning it but I couldn’t because it was so good! I would say that it is good for girls who can deal with such intent content, or boys or girls in high school. I would recommend that adults don’t read it or recommend it to kids because it might change the way that kids may think of themselves.
The best thing that this book had was how the author could write with a teenager's perspective and write the story so that teens can understand it. If I were a teacher, I probably would not put it in my library. I probably wouldn't want to have kids read it either.
The story was kind of about brotherhood, but it dealt with romance, hatred, and basketball. My favorite character is Nathan Scott because he is living his dream, and his father's dream, but all of that changes because of one boy. In my perspective, I thought that Nathan's change of heart was the most important point of the book.
It is a realistic fiction because some kids may actually be living in the circumstances that these kids are. Toward the end, as you learn more about the characters’' personality's more, you'd find that it gets predictable. I predicted what would happen, and it came true. This story, to me doesn’t have a happy ending, except for one kid, who was the reason of Nathan's life changing.
I would want to read more One Tree Hill books because this book gave me the introduction that I needed to see what was going on. I'd say that this book was one of my favorite books I ever read. Please follow my advice, and do whatever is right for you!

This book is worse than any One Tree Hill fan fiction I have ever read. All of the characters sound like they're in an alternate universe and the prologue creates plot holes for the pilot episode because the author made up terrible summer back stories. In addition, there are evident mistakes such as, "Keith looks up at an old team photo on the wall. Both Scott brothers are in it: Nathan front and center and Keith hovering around in the background." Worst of all, once it reaches the tv series' timeline, the book is basically the script, but a low-grade version. Poorly written all around.

-This drama filled book is called One Tree Hill: #1 The Beginning, and is written by Jenny Markas.

-In this book, you will meet these main characters that have skeptical moods, and unbelievable actions that shake up their high school friendships. Some of the very important characters are Brooke Davis, Lucas Scott, Nathan Scott, Haley James, and Peyton Sawyer. Half of the characters don't become friends until the middle of the book, but the other half (Peyton, Brooke, Nathan) are already close friends, with high reputations.

-Overall, this intriguing book takes place in North Carolina, specifically in a very small town named "Tree Hill." Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer have always been best friends, although they have to learn to overcome difficult bumps in their friendship along the way. Boy drama mainly is the cause for the two of them fighting. Cheating, lying, betrayal is seen on every page. The male characters in this book play on a competitive basketball team that can cause trouble, and can also cause major victories in Tree Hill.

-The structure of this book is mainly about Lucas and Nathan. Nathan and Lucas are brothers and have the same father, but don't live together, and have never said a word to one another. Saying that they hate each other is a huge understatement. After Lucas joins the basketball team Nathan is on, Nathan can't stand the fact that he has a competition, and also hates how this competition is his families biggest enemy. The boys were forced to come to terms with the obvious fact that they are brothers, and the dad is to be blamed for his damage to both sons. On the other hand, the female characters have their ups and downs. The main conflict between them is how Peyton falls in love with Brooke's boyfriend.

-In conclusion, I loved this book. Although, I did have a bias when I started to read it. This book is inspired by the former TV Show, "One Tree Hill." This show happens to be one of my favorite shows of all time, which put me up for extremely high standards from this book. Although, it did impress me a lot, with great detail in every chapter.

I know. It is a TV-series book. But nevertheless, it is very good! First, this is not so close to the series - which is good because when you are a fan you can read it even if you have already seen the 1st few episodes of the series. Second, it is well written and the mood of the whole series can be felt. Third, it is interesting because you got the thoughts of some of the characters as well as the stuff they say and their behaviour.

Love the show the ending was brilliant and it was nice that I could read this book at nightime and recall all the memories of the begginning of this show. As well as growing up with the characters. Good book good way to summarise the show.

2.5 ☆ okay so coming from someone who is currently watching the show i feel like this lacked some spots/main relationship aspects?? (i am only on season 2) i liked it. but i wanted more haley and nathan. and haley in general. she deserved more time in this book. and haley and nathan deserved their scenes together. like wth?? what happened to all of them. but overall, it was good but boring at the same time because i know what to expect.

I started reading the book series of One Tree Hill because I was obsessed with the show. One tree hill is a great book. It is set in a small town called Tree Hill in North Carolina, and based off of two half brothers Lucas Scott and Nathan Scott who compete for a position on their high school basketball team the Tree Hill Ravens. I think this book has a lot of great characters everyone has a different personality.
Lucas Scott half brother of Nathan Scott is always trying to help his friends and family especially his single mother Karen who owns a local coffee shop in town. Lucas is hated by Nathan his half brother and Nathan's father Dan Scott whom is also Lucas' biological father because of his love for basketball. Keith Scott Nathan and Lucas' uncle and brother of Dan Scott was the male/ father figure in Lucas' life.
Nathan Scott star basketball player of the One Tree Hill Ravens who's dream is to be a pro basketball star, and doesn't let anyone get in his way including his friends and family. Throughout the entire book Nathan's father Dan always put a lot of pressure on him to be the best because Dan wanted Nathan to be exactly like he was in high school.
Peyton sawyer is the girlfriend of Nathan and a Ravens basketball cheerleader, but never really seemed interested in cheering.
Peyton was secretly an artist, and had a true love for music. She was always trying to find her way throughout the book. I think Peyton had the hardest life style because her mom died when she was so young, and her dad worked out of state so he was never home leaving Peyton alone most of the time which made things very hard on her.
Brook Davis popular and rich girl also captain of the One Tree Hill cheerleading team and best friend of Peyton sawyer always put on the act that everything was going great in her life, but in reality her family was going broke and her parents were always fighting.
Then you have Lucas' best friend Haley James she is the definition of "tutor girl" or "nerd." If she wasn't studying or helping another student with homework she was hanging out with Lucas and working for Lucas' mom Karen at the local coffee shop. Haley was always considered about Lucas. In the book each character has there on struggles, but there friends were always there for them to help out.
This is a good book for teens mainly girls that are into a lot of drama. It contains lots of family and friend issues.
I think the book and the show really relates to personal teen lives which is the main reason I like it so much. Mark Schwahn the author of this book did a really good job not only writing the books, but also making it into a great show.

Basically what happened before the first episode, and the first episode.

If you're a big Peyton fan you'll like it, cause they basically made her the most popular girl in school. I always thought that was Brooke? Oh well...

I liked that they made Skills a bigger part here.
And Brooke is always interesting.
Haley with her job was cool.
Plus the River Court guys all together, I loved it.

But I'm way too big of a Naley fan to like any of the Nathan/Peyton parts.
I would've loved if there was ANYTHING with Naley, but no.
Maybe the second one, but I doubt it.

i really enjoyed reading this book. I started watching the show years ago when it wasn't finished yet. i randomly picked this book up for 2€ because i though it is kinda funny to have a book that was written after a tv show i really like, and I was actually pretty sure that i would not read it but i am really glad that i did. I read it in one day. I think the book is also really funny i was laughing out loud on multiple occasions. I really recommended this book for ever One Tree Hill fan out there.

One Tree Hill: The Beginning is a great book; it is a great book for teens to read. It is a great introduction to get you into the book series. The book touches on a preppy kid named Nathan Scott who has it all and a boy named Lucas Scott who has to work for what he has. It is a book you can get into and a book teens can relate to. The story has a good mix of drama and romance that will keep you on your toes.

I really liked this book because it was at the beginning. Before the first episode. It tells of Haley's job before she started at Karen's Cafe. And really puts Nathan and Peyton's relationship into a better light than the first episode of the show.
This was a fun quick read and I really liked that I could stay connected with the characters after I watched the show.

The only reason I rated this book three out of five stars is because I'm a dedicated fan of the show. This book was poorly edited (in a few spots it actually says Nathan when it's talking about Lucas or vice versa). It's based on the pilot to the show, so if you've seen the show there aren't too many surprises. It was a quick read though, and it did made me miss the show!!

felt like bad fanfiction when i was reading it, but its just more nathan scott, broody lucas, and queen brooke davis content for me so i bumped it up a star (or two)
if you havent seen the show, go watch all nine seasons of joy lenz, sophia bush, antwon tanner, and james lafferty (and six seasons of chad michael murray and hilarie burton) in all their glory, then come back to this book - you'll appreciate it a lot more then.

i am glad mouth's iconic line from the one-on-one game was included:
"Holy crap!" Mouth yells. "Did you see that? Someday men will write stories about that block. Children will be named after it! Argentenian women will weep for for it!"

truer words were never spoken.

this tv-show to book adaptation added absolutely nothing to the source material. they added new characters and story lines that were utterly pointless and added no depth to the characters, copying dialogue verbatim from the show instead of exploring off camera moments that could have provided a new experience to the fans of the show. in addition to this, there was continuity errors within the book itself and only original dialogue was out of character. if you’re a fan of oth i would not recommend this.

A few wrong names mentioned, Nathan when it's supposed to be Lucas. But otherwise a great extension of the story leading into Season 1! An excellent, quick read for any fan of the show!

I thought this entire book was going to take place before the show starts but that’s only the first half, the second half is the same as the show which makes it a bit boring.
I also thought the chemistry between Lucas and Peyton wasn’t done well. And the writing overall felt quite juvenile.
The most interesting part was seeing more of the dynamic between Peyton and Nathan.

Lucas scott and Nathan does not like each other, they both play basketball but they wan to beat each other. Then they play basketball and lucas wins. Nathans reputation was destroyed that his older brother. Nathan is popular while Lucas was really a no one.
