Matthew: I really liked this Book. I like how it gives me a lot of information. I like that A.J. threw the flash cards up in the air. He did not know that poems do not have to rhyme or make sense. I Liked this book. A.J. and Andrea are in the gifted and talented program and it is natural poetry month {April}. Mr. Klutz the principal says if the whole school can write 1,000 poems before the end of April he will bring in a real national poet. Ms. Daisy their teacher wants them to write a poem every day for their homework and Ms. Coco loads with poetry writing too. She cries at every poem A.J. writes even though the are dumb and inappropriate. They go to the kindergarteners to read them their poems and they cried because A.J. said something his poem about dead bunny's. The whole school eventually writes 1,000 poems total and A.J. is the national poet. he read his poem called weird animals and obviously it's about animals being weird.

This may be my favorite book in this series! Whenever there is a problem A.j always says he wanted to go to Antarctica and live with the penguins,but this time he really did! You would think it should have a better ending, but I still thought it was hilarious

My favorite poem was when A.J wrote all the facts he learned from Andreas encyclopedia knowledge!

This book is actually a fiction book with characters but the entire book revolves around poetry and the teacher desire and love of poetry. There are many peoms within the text. The text font is large and easily readable. The book is set up in chapter form with short paragraphs on each page. This book still has illustrations which are all black and gray. There are not many illustration but there are generally one every few chapters. This book would appeal to students first because the title alone is capitavting especailly for a student who may be leary of poetry. It shows kids different way to apply and use poetry in daily life, without it being a poetry "assignment". It is almost as if they are learning poetry without even knowing it, which I am sure is more appealing to the teacher. Especially if they are enjoying themselves.

Language Arts: Different types of poetry in the book and make your own
Language Arts: Role play some of the scenes from the book, that include some of Ms. Coco's poems.

It's National Poetry Month at Ella Mentry School. A.J. and his schoolmates are challenged to write a 1000 poems in a month. Ms. Coco is the gifted and talented teacher, and she thinks A.J. is immensely brilliant. Except A.J. is just randomly throwing words together and selling his extra poems to other students.

This book was ... about a boy named AJ he was at the store in ela Mentery school he could not by eneything beacouse some kid stole his allowense so he just watched. He watched andrea brag about her new encyclopedia and how she will yous to learn new words. Then when they got to the class both Andrea and AJ were sent to another class the kids siad they were in love so they huried and left to another class. Andrea and AJ went into a nother class. Ms. Coco’s class. Because they are gifted and talented. She started braging about herself because she takes after school classes. So he answered sarcastically. When they got thier Ms.Coco was not there after a while she came runing in she said hi then rimed they thought it was wierd. So she explianed why she rhymed in a rhime. Then Andrea said it was natinal poetry month so they both have to do poetry. Then he said I hate poetry. He said the wished he was ungifted and untalented. The next day he went to the store and saw a cool pen he wanted it but could not by it he only had lunch money he thougt about spending his lunch money but he did not want to starve so he went to class then Mr.Kluts walked in the class. He siad he had exiding news. Then he said one thousand poets and i’ll bring a real life poet. The girls said yes but the boys said no so Mr. Kluts said it’s a deal. Then AJ and Andrea went to Ms.Coco’s class. M.Coco was late again so she said she was fixing her hair then AJ said was it broken she thought he said something creative thats why he’s in the g and t program. Then she asked for the poems she asined for homework. Then she read them both she liked AJ’s more than Andrea’s and Andrea got mad. The next day he say a big chart on the lawn that said “the kids of elamentery school have done 200 poems” then his teacher said thier homework was to write poems every day of Aprial. Then him and Andrea went with Ms.Coco again. Andre and her started singing then she said to AJ to explore his feelings butt boys don’t have feelings said AJ. Then she said lets write poems adoute feelings so AJ wrote “My feelings are written on the cieling . But the pait is peeling off the cieling. So my fielings are not that revealing. It’s hard to have no feelings”. Then she said poems dont have to rime. Then he just wrote words . The next day they went to Ms. Coco’s room. They went to read a poem to the kindergarteners. AJ told them that he would give them candy . Then Ms. Coco said AJ you write realy great poetry. Then at lunch him and his friends complained aboute poems.The next day niel forgot his poem and AJ sold him one for his lunch money. Some days past and those days AJ sold a lot of poems to boys in his class and other ones to make money. Then AJ and Andrea went to Ms. Coco room they wrote poems aboute animals and when Ms. Coco read AJ’s she started laghing and crying. She went to show it to Mr.Kluts and Andrea got jelouse. It was assembly day and the onered AJ’s poem’s. And they brought a real life poet. The end.

In an effort to celebrate National Poetry Month, the principal Mr. Klutz tries the bean counter approach: if the school will write 1,000 poems by the end of the month, he'll invite a "real" poet to visit the school. AJ, of course, hates poetry, but it turns out he is quite good at making it into a commodity. By throwing spelling words up in the air and writing them down where they land, he writes hundreds of poems which he then sells to his less enterprising friends. He can even make up rhymes on the spot, thrilling his audiences (including the readers who can't stop laughing). By the end of the month, AJ has accumulated a good amount of money, stolen the teacher's heart from his rival, and even enjoyed the appearance of the "real" poet, Mr. Hynde, the former music teacher/rapper/winner of American Idol. What is poetry, kids? Something you can make a buck off of. Go American capitalism!

The school is celebrating National Poetry Month and A.J. learns he has a knack for writing poems. He decides to turn it into a money-making scheme because the rest of the boys seem either clueless or unwilling. A.J.'s super secret poem production machine may make lovers of poetry cringe, but you have to admire his creative problem solving. Hilarious! This time A.J.'s the star, and Andrea can't take it.

This book is by Dan Gutman. The pictures are by Jim Paillot. This book is called Ms. Coco is Loco, my weird school days. Book number 16. It takes place during poetry month, and Ms. Coco who is the teacher of the gifted and talented program loves poetry! AJ and Andrea are students in her class and AJ writes poems that are a bit unusual but they bring Ms. Coco to tears. I liked this book because I thought AJ was the funniest character.

It was funny and on that chapter on the chapter he said that the kindergartners were such fakers because they pretended to cry kind of because of his bad bunny poem that was so like hurtful or like it was that or something and he said I’ll give you candy and he was lying about that and he called them fakers because they were fake crying when he said that he was going to give them candy they stopped right out cryingI recommend you reading this book because it is really funny

Over the break, I read the fear zone by K.R Alexander and i liked it.I decided to read this book because I love scary things.This book is great because the plot was scary,in the at night.This book could be better if it had a picture of the graveyard.I think the kind of people should read this because it is scary and is a really good book.

This book in the series is about National Poetry Month. Unlike all the other books in the series, when A.J. is faced with a challenge of doing something he really doesn't want to do (i.e. writing poetry) he rises to the challenge instead of running from it. As it turns out, A.J. really has a knack for writing poetry and even upstages Andrea and the rest of the school.

It is cool because AJ figures out that poems don't have to rhyme. And, he doesn't like it when Alexandria finishes the encyclopedia. He then makes a poem about animals that are weird - the poem was really funny and cool with weird facts, like that walruses can get sunburned.

Great book for third graders or kids starting out to read beginners level chapter books. If you're wondering why I read this book even though I'm in 8th grade, it's because I didn't have any other interesting books to read at home, so I just read this one.

Ms Coco is the gifted and talented teacher. AJ was writing inappropriate poems and Ms Coco started crying saying hoe good they were. when they were really bad. He was trying to make them bad so he would get kicked out of the gifted and talented program because his enemy Andrea was in it.

This book was awesome. Chad was my favorite character because he did not like learning. I was surprise that the characters make funny sounds with there arm pits. I would change the ending because they were still talking about the stuff and ended it on a word not a real ending or something.

This book is funny, short sweet and to the point.
The cherry on top was learning AJ's secret poetry writing system.
Take a stack of flash cards with words on it, throw it up in the air, scoop up a bunch of them and write the words down in order. And Bingo you have a poem.

Dan Gutman’s Ms. Coco Is Loco (My Weird School series) is vintage Gutman: funny, fast paced, and sure to appeal to reluctant readers. Gutman should know. In his foreword to the 2012 edition of the Renaissance Learning report What Kids Are Reading, Gutman writes:

We started reading the books in the My Weird School series by Dan Gutman and Jim Paillot together during storytime, but our girls have been reading them independently, which is fine with me. The books are silly and somewhat redundant, but have a clever theme that is similar to the books in the Black Lagoon series by Mike Thaler.
This story has a poetry theme and I love that no matter how hard A.J. tries, he cannot write a poem that Ms. Coco dislikes. We have a bunch of poetry magnets that we have on a metal door in our house and we copied his technique of making up poems by using random words. It was actually a lot of fun. Our girls liked this story and I'm sure we'll be finishing this series in no time.
