Can a wounded cyborg help an isolated scientist remember her own humanity?
Dr. Rose Abbott is the cybernetic engineer who created the robot horses used in the efforts to terraform Mars. Disgusted by the way her creations are treated by the GenCon Corporation, she chooses to leave her work behind and live in isolation.
Then one of her horses finds her and leads her to an injured cyborg ranger - one with no memory. She reluctantly decides to take the big male, who she nicknames Roy, back to her home to heal.
All Roy can remember is cold and pain. But the prickly little scientist taking care of him begins to thaw his frozen heart, awakening feelings he never thought to have. He is determined to protect her – even from his unknown past.
With the help of a robot horse and a cybernetic dog, can two wounded souls find peace in each other’s arms? Or will Roy’s past threaten the new life he is hoping to build?
This is a favorite series of mine! Rose, the scientist who built the cyborg horses, is amazing. She sees the unexpected intelligence the horses exhibit, but others just won’t cooperate when she wants help. I loved her rescue of the unknown cyborg! Her cute little Otis knows just what needs to be done. Getting to know her cyborg, finding romance - sweet as can be!
I love the concept of this series but I guess I shouldn't have picked up the 5th installment to start. I found the dialogue slightly too cheesy for my tastes but it gave me a good idea of the world and what I can expect from these characters. I will give this series another try and start at the beginning. I just needed more than this novella could offer. However that really is no excuse for the iffy dialogue.
I originally read this in the PiSA since I love these cyborgs and... *heart eyes* And look! Here I am again, cuddling up with the cyborgs and the women who love them. And who love their horses.
As it turns out, Rose has a special connection to the horses on Mars. As the engineer who created them and then left GenCon because of the way they were treated, she has a massive soft spot for the big animals. She might not have all the tools and materials she used to have, but she's still plying her trade as she tinkers with a robotic dog in her down time.
When one of the cybernetic horses appears and leads her to a heavily damaged cyborg with no memory, Rose does what she needs to do to try to help the injured Ranger. One thing leads to another and soon they're sharing more than space in her habitat.
On Roy's end, his lack of memories leaves him a little twitchy. He knows something happened to him, but not what. Throw in his slow healing from his injuries (considering he's a cyborg, that's pretty much unheard of) and the simmering connection he feels toward Rose and the guy is dealing with some stuff.
A (somewhat) dangerous planet, cybernetic animals who are more than just robots, a damaged cyborg, and a lady who's been on her own for a while. *thumbs up*
Out of all Honey Phillip's series, I was hesitant about this one and never started it. I've read a few different cyborg series and some have been hit or miss. So I never really go around to trying this one yet. But of course, leave it to me to start way into the series and not at the beginning. However, with this series each book can be read as a standalone, so while I started at like book 6, I think, I'm not feeling as if I miss anything from previous books.
I enjoyed Dr. Abbott's character. She's a woman that is determined to make her mark in the world or the new world that is being built on Mars. But she won't do it for a company that is ony determined to sell their products or ideas to anyone willing to pay the right price for the greedy corporate heads. When Roy enters the picture and Rose (Dr. Abbott) is the one to take care of him she starts experiencing feelings for someone she never thought she would. In previous relationships it was always with a fellow scientist, not someone who looks like Roy and is...a cyborg. But first she has to help Roy figure out who he is and why he's not healing like a cyborg should.

Dr. Rose Abbott was a scientist working for GenCon on Mars. She developed the cyborg horses that would work with the cyborg rangers. She loved her horses and believed that they were becoming sentient, but everyone at GenCon just laughed. When she refused to back down they threatened to destroy the horses one by one until she did what they wanted. Instead, she quit, even though it broke her heart to leave her horses. Now she lives alone in a remote isolated area working on a canine version of her horses. One day one of her horses comes galloping up to her home. It becomes obvious that he wants her to go with him so she hops on. He takes her to a badly injured Cyborg that is barely alive. She manages to get him home and into bed and begins to nurse him back to health. But when he awakens, he has no memory or anything. He doesn’t even remember being turned into a cyborg.
This is a great book about their journey together as he regains his memory and health and when danger comes calling, he is there to save her! I love little Otis, the cyborg canine too!.

The main story has mostly stayed the same, but it is still one of my favorites. If you have followed the series until now, you know that for the cyborgs, the horses have become more than a machine. This book will give you a small flashback to the creation of the horses by Dr. Rose Abbott. Rose realized that the horses she created had become more than anticipated, but Gen Corp refused to see her creation as anything other than machines. And after losing one of her horses, she decided to leave everything behind. Now she lives alone on vast Mars plains; she is self-sufficient and does not need anything or anyone, but when one of her horses seeks her out, she is more than intrigued. The horse has taken her to one of the cyborgs; he is alive, barely, and even though she has always been suspicious of cyborgs, she cannot see herself leaving this cyborg to die alone. This is the beginning of Rose and Roy’s love story. This is not your book if you are looking for a fast-paced, action-filled romance. This is the book to read on a winter afternoon wrapped in blankets and drinking hot chocolate. I hope to see more of these series in the future.
This was a quick and fun book to read and I enjoyed how two lost people came together not only to help find answers but found themselves in the process. Dr Rose Abbott is a cybernetic engineer who has created cyborg horses for Gencon corporation to help on mars and she loves all her horses but when she sees them getting treated badly she quits and goes into isolation on the other side of mars and for company she makes a cyborg dog called Otis but when one of her horses tracks her down she follows it back to a very badly injured cyborg Ranger who she decides to help but he has amnesia but thinks his name start with a R so she calls his Roy. Roy is a cyborg Ranger or so he thinks as does Rose because the horses where made for them to work with but doesn’t explain why Roy cried out saying no more experiments no more pain or who had left him to die. But working together brings them closer as they try to find the answers but falling in love was unexpected. Do they find out who attacked him and does Roy get his memory back and do they have a future together or not.

Rose was the scientist who created the cyborg horses for Mars, but long after she has left Gencon, she is surprised when one of the horses comes galloping to her for help with his cyborg. When the cyborg awakes, he has no memory, so Rose calls him Roy- and she needs to find a way to help him regain his memory, so they can figure out what happened to him…
This book actually sits outside of the timeline established for the rest of the series, though we do catch a glimpse of a certain scarred ranger and his scarred horse (the horse we actually see a few times), so although it reads best when you’ve read the series and have come to know and love the horses and cyborgs, it is a standalone in this world.
This is a sweet and sexy romance, with a smart scientist heroine, and an injured hero. Like all good Westerns, the cowboy has a horse and a dog- though since it is on Mars they are a little different! Plenty of Easter eggs to be found for those who enjoy Westerns (especially Clint Eastwood ones), but it’s an enjoyable, quick read for the cyborg loving sci-fi romance enthusiast.
And this is why Cyborgs on Mars is one of my favorite series!🔥🔥💖💖
This was a fantastic short story set in the wild sci-fi West of Mars and one of my very favorite series by honey Phillips. An isolated Scientist Rose is disillusioned by the world and people around her. She once worked for Gen Corp and was the scientist who created the mechanical horses the Rangers use. She loved everyone of them and was angry at the way they were being treated. Series she left and lives in a remote area of Mars. As she workd on her new project a cute mechanical dog something unexpected happens. A plumb of dust brings one of her beloved horses to her and she follows him on an adventure. At the end of the ride she finds a cyborg badly hurt and brings him home . Rose names him Roy and as he heals they grow closer. She tries to help him remember how he got hurt and as they try to unravel the mystery they grow closer and closer trust grows and so does love . You will love this novella it's perfect addition to the series. I loved it!.
If you haven’t tried the Cyborgs on Mars series, yet, you’re missing out! While, futuristic, it feels very real. The world-building is fantastic. Think of it as a Western sci-fi romance.
In The Cyborg with No Name, heroine Rose Abbott, the designer of the robotic horses used by the cyborg rangers who provide the law & order on Mars, has left GenCon and has become a recluse, wanting to be left alone to design robots. One day a horse she designed shows up at her door and leads her to a wounded and traumatized cyborg.
He can’t remember his name or past, and has only hazy memories of being strapped down to a lab table. Rose takes him in and nurses him back to health.
As the heat rises, so does the mystery of what happened to him.
As with all books in this series, in The Cyborg With No Name the reader gets super steamy encounters, a sweet-hot romance, and fantastic world-building.
(Side note: I liked the horse a lot, and I loved, loved Otis, the robotic dog).
Dr. Rose Abbot is a cybernetic engineer working for GenCon Corporation on Mars developing robot horses. When a storm damages the container with the horses, she rushes to she how badly they were damaged. To her surprise, there is only damage to one large horse which appears to have shielded the others. The horse needed a new eye, but since it wouldn't impede it's purpose, the company refused to make the simple fix since the horses were going to cyborgs anyway. Dissatisfied with a company that cared only about profit, she leaves the company and a year later she is living in an isolated homestead and able to survive on her own. While building a robot dog one day, one of the horses she created ran right up to her and lead her to its injured cyborg ranger. She brings him to her home to heal, but he awakens and has lost his memory.
Great world building. I loved the robot animals! I don't read too many cyborg stories, but this story has me interested in reading this series. 5 stars.
Back to Mars. I love the series. This story is about the cyborg with no memory. Loved Bucephalus. Even though he is a cyborg he understands and can reason that the MC Roy needed help. Of course Otis is protective as well. Roy and Rose have such great chemistry together. Her willingness to help and her protectiveness of Roy while he was recovering was exactly what this story needed. Of course the role reverses once he has recovered. Fast paced from the first page. Well written. I love the HEA and of course no cliffhanger. Honey has a way of bring out the best in her characters. You can see the plains of Mars and feel the joys and frustration of the MCs. I hope there are more cyborgs in the future.

A very good short story set in the cyborgs on Mars world. Rose designed and built the robotic horses that worked on Mars. After a nasty dust storm she saw how one big horse had protected the others from the danger. Her horses were becoming sentient. When pressure was put on her by the company, rather that doing things their way, she quit and moved out in the boonies. She has a good life there by herself working on Otis, her robotic dog. Then one of her horses comes to her and manages to get her to go with him. She finds an injured cyborg. I really like this series. The old west themes, robotics, and the connection between a cyborg and a human. I enjoyed reading of Rose's initial fear of the cyborg with amnesia, her taking care of and naming her cyborg Roy, why is Roy not healing, danger and a HEA.
A sweet story that begins with a mystery, and a horse that brings them together. The Ranger is attacked and left for dead, and his horse brings Rose to help him. She's a retired GenCon engineer who created the horses and gave them life. She's special. It's why they let her go. After getting the ranger back to her settlement, she struggles to heal him, then finally, it gets all magical and mystical, and sweetly sexy, just lovely really, two lonely people finding what is missing in each other. They fit each other's missing pieces so well, it's crazy good, even when they face danger, they work better together with their mechanical family. This is a fun addition to the series that is a quick read that you can easily read in one sitting and will want to add to your collection too, I know I am!
This is a beautiful addition to this incredible series !! In thus story we meet Dr Rose, who is responsible for the ," horses" , that the cyborg Marshall's ride. But after GenCon, Rose gets disillusioned , and leaves for some space and where she can continue some if her work in peace. One day , she is approached by one of her " horses ", and ends up helping a cyborg who is very badly injured. " Roy", can't remember anything . Not his name, not why is so hurt. Nothing . But this lovely woman soothes him and makes him feel things he hasn't felt in ...... He doesn't know how long . Can these two solve Roy's amnesia , or will the danger of his attack come before they are ready ?? I love this series, and was so excited to see a new book !!! Always happy with these books !!!!
Another short, but sweet, cyborg story! The main characters are Rose, Roy, Roy’s horse Bucephalus, and Rose’s dog Otis. If you have read the Cyborg series, you know about their very sentient mechanical horses. Rose, it turns out, created those very smart horses, and now she has created a dog! I have always wondered about the horses’ origins, and this explains them beautifully. Rose rescues her injured cyborg, and ends up unable to resist his charms. I really enjoy this series with that great mix of alien planet, Wild West, humans, cyborgs, and mechanical animals. Life finds a way to thrive, even under difficult circumstances, and it doesn’t get more difficult than on Mars! What a great series!! I hope we get to read about more Cyborg adventures!
I just love our Cyborgs on Mars series. Even though this is shorter it still holds the same charm. Our main characters are Roy ( cyborg) and Rose ( Dr. Abbott) . With the help of Bucephalus ( horse), Rose is able to get Roy the medical treatment he needs. As the inhabitants grow on Mars Rose is also adding to her family. A cyborg dog named Otis. Together they help Roy recuperate and slowly he gets his memories back. Unfortunately its not a pleasant experience. He remembers everything that was done to him.
Through all the pain that he endured love finds him. He now has a family and a future they both can look forward too. 💜🔥.

Series: Cyborgs on Mars #5.5 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
Dr. Rose Abbot is the scientist who pioneered the technology behind the robotic horses used on Mars. But she quickly becomes disgusted at the way GenCon Corporation treats the anials and leaves. Then one of those horses leads her to an injured cyborg ranger who has no memory.
Rose and Roy were an adorable couple. I really enjoyed their slowish relationship and how Roy slowly gained his memory. The pets in this one were cool too because they were a mechanical horse and a dog, which is unique. I like that they had a lot of personality too. Overall, this was a very enjoyable cyborg, instant love relationship.
The Cyborgs on Mars is one of my top 10 series and it pays homage to the "spaghetti westerns" movies I grew up on. This story is a perfect addition to it. Rose and Roy are wonderful as the main characters, smart and strong. And we get answers about the robot horses (which always came across as something more). This is a fast read (or maybe I just got caught up in the story) and you don't have to read the rest of the series but I recommend it for a richer read and you'll really miss out on some amazing charcters and their tales. Enjoy!.

Dr. Rose Abbott created the horses for the rangers on Mars, she felt they were developing their personalities. When one showed up at her property wanting her to come with him, she knew she was right. He took her to where his ranger was. The ranger had been seriously injured. He had lost his memory. All he could remember was the letter R when she asked him his name. Rose named him Roy. Roy needed to find out where he was. He was so weak. All he could say was Please, no more experiments. Follow Rose and Roy as she tries to help him heal and he tries to remember how he got hurt. This is one of my favorite stories that Ms. Phillips wrote. Love, acceptance, and Guaranteed HEA!!!
A sweet and short story about a doctor who thought she was fine being isolated until she saves a cyborg with amnesia. I enjoyed how enamoured Roy the cyborg was with Rose even if she thought she wasn’t much to look at. They start falling in love with each other but also have to deal with the problems of their past together. I liked this story and thought it was heartwarming. Also, any story that includes animals as part of the story line is a winner to me.

Rose is a very capable scientist and engineer. She believes that there is more to her charges, her cyborg horses than just metal. They were slowly developing personalities but then along came a storm which was the excuse that one of her colleagues needed to get rid of her. When a horse arrives at her new home and convinces her follow him to where she finds an injured cyborg male. There's nothing for it, she cannot leave him alone. She brings him home to heal but when he wakes he remembers nothing. What happened to him and will her life be same when he is all mended and gone?
I loved getting to meet Rose, who is the doctor who created the cyborg horses for the Cyborg Rangers. I've had a genuine fondness & love for the horses from the very first book. It was nice to get to know the kind & loving lady who created them. Roy is as wonderful as Rose once we get to know him, which takes a bit due to his memory loss. This book filled in some unknowns from the series. I'm going to miss this series, as I believe it has concluded. It has been one of my favorite series in a very long time.
Just because you've decided to live a hermit-style life doesn't mean the universe is going to respect your choices.
He's badly injured, barely able to lend an angel of mercy a helping hand at moving his large body to safety... but a determined scientist, and a robotic horse make a powerful set of rescuers.
One of the things I really enjoyed about this story was how they tried to set aside their assumptions and expectations as they considered things -- even recognizing it can be hard to consider the unlikely and unexpected.
I love this series. The mix of sci-fi and western is such an interesting concept and I have loved the genre since Firefly. This particular story had a perfect blend of action, mystery and romance and I loved the addition of little Otis - the intelligence and loyalty of the animals is one of my favourite parts of the series. I recommend the entire series.

A continuation of her Cyborgs on Mars series, this short story features Rose. Creating a new life for herself after leaving GenCon, she finds herself seeking companionship in the form of creating an AI dog. But the unexpected happens and she finds herself rescuing an amnesiac Cyborg. Will the algorithms that are in one branch out into another? Can an ex-genetic/scientist find happiness without realizing that was what she was seeking all along? Are the AI animals truly sentient?
As usual Honey takes us to a whole New world. This time it's on Mars.
Our MFC as retired from robotics and purchased a plot of land away from everyone on Mars.
One of the robotic horses that she had created comes to her and brings her to his rider. She gets him back to her place and when he comes to he can't remember what happened or who he is.
While they fall in love, they try to figure out those details.
I got a review copy of The Cyborg with No Name by Honey Phillips when it came out in the Pets in Space 6 Anthology. If you’re familiar with her Cyborgs on Mars series, you’ll love this one. She’s created some fun cyborg animals too. I’ve always loved the horses, but her little dog Otis is cute as a button! And who can resist a hunky cyborg in need a rescue?! Don’t miss Roy and Rose’s steamy story from Mars. 4 stars!
