This is a very good memoir about the author's days on a plantation during the Civil War, her life as a refugee in Mexico, and her days in Cuba afterward. The book contains lots of drama and first-rate description. Although Ripley's other book, Social Life in Old New Orleans, (a memoir of her childhood) is also good, Flag to Flag is even better.
