Breeds 9
Feline Breeds 7
Location: Virginia Mountains – Feline Breeds’ base

Featured Couple: Tanner (Bengal Tiger) & Scheme (human)

This is the story of Tanner and his girl, Scheme.
Tanner is one of the five Breeds from the first book “Taming the beast” who helped the Breeds’ story to go public. Now he is basically the Breed's PR poster boy.

Scheme is the daughter of one the high-ranking members of the Genetics Council, General Tallant. Thus when Feline base goes through a big attack initiated by Genetics Council, Tanner kidnaps Scheme and locks himself up with her.

The truth is that Tanner has been attracted to her for years. One of the reasons that he locks himself up with her is to find out if there is any Mating Heat between them.

Moreover, what Tanner does not know is that Scheme has suffered a lot in her life and she hates her controlling father for several awful things: He killed her mother, he bought off someone to become her lover, he made her go through an abortion.

There is a powerful attraction and many lies between Tanner and Scheme, which make the plot extremely fascinating. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The two main characters and their internal battles were nice developed. I definitely loved their plays of cat and mouse.

Other interesting Breeds in this book:
-Mastermind Jonas plays again a significant role in this book as the true boss of Scheme who works as a double agent for the Breeds.
-Cabal, Tanner's twin is helping Tanner realize that Scheme is his real mate.
- Little David Lyons who has grown up and now he is a little riot.
-Dog (the apparently dangerous, heartless Coyote) is one of the assassins tracking Scheme. Dog is working for Scheme's father and the Council in this book, but he is actually another double agent for Jonas.

One of my favorite books in the series!

I loved the fact that Tanner and Scheme were in love BEFORE the mating heat hit them. I had a very bad moment when I thought a ménage scenario was going to take place but, thankfully, it was a false alarm. I wasn´t comfortable with the "watching" thing either, but I let it slide. Yeah, that´s how much I loved this book! :)

The identity of the bad guys´ spy infiltrated inside the Sanctuary took me completely by surprise, and made me want to reread the previous books in search of hints that might have escaped me. The motives behind the spy´s betrayal weren´t clear to me but, hey, psychos are everywhere, right?

This series keeps getting better and better, and I hope it never ends! :)

Tanner and Scheme are a perfect match. They’re grrrrrrreat!

Tanner is a Bengal Breed and an enforcer who has been keeping an eye on Scheme Tallant for more than 10 years. Ever since she became an assistant to her father Cyrus Tallent, a one-time high ranking member of the Genetics Council and now an advocate for anti-breed politics.

What Tanner doesn’t know is that ever since Scheme’s father had his right hand man use her by getting her to fall in love with him, then when she got pregnant, both of them drugged her and forced her to have an abortion, she became a double agent for the Breeds. She has been working with Jonas and the Bureau of Breed Affairs against her father.

She found out extremely high level classified information and needed to get it to Jonas right away so she sent a message to him that she would meet him at a Ball and need immediate extraction. However Jonas wasn’t there. So she went to a hotel. Tanner follows her to the hotel and hits on her and while he is in the bathroom, her ex shows up to kill her. So Tanner takes her hostage. Things heat up between the two main characters from there. Scheme can’t fully trust Tanner, knowing that there is a spy for her father at Sanctuary who is trained in the same specialties as Tanner, and he thinks she is the enemy, but lusts after her.

This book had been lying around for awhile until I decided if I wanted to read another Breed Series of which there are quite a few by other authors.
Although I have read Lora Leigh’s erotic books published by Ellora’s Cave, which I absolutely love, I had never read any of her other books.
Tanner’s Scheme is the 3rd book in the Breed Series and I would have liked reading them in order but I was able to catch up with some of the previous stories and WOW….was this a hot smoking read!!!!!!!!!
Tanner is one gorgeous Bengal…a member of a group of humans whose DNA was mixed with genes from various feline species in labs run by very evil humans. He’s a suave, smooth talking guy and has been spying on Scheme Tallant’s life for years waiting for an opportunity to destroy her and her father.
Scheme is the daughter of a very evil, one time high ranking member of the Genetics Council and is determined to do everything, including killing his wife and child in his mission of eliminating all the Breeds. The Breeds believe that Scheme works side by side with her father for him to reach his goal.

Tanner is determined to do something about obtaining information from Scheme and he kidnaps her just before she is nearly killed by her ex lover, on her father’s orders. He takes her to his hideout in the mountains and will not release her until she tells him all her father’s plans.
What he doesn’t realize is that Scheme has been working as a double agent for the Breeds and has important information that is crucial to the safety of the Breeds. He discovers that she is not the person he thought….he has always believed that she’s like her father and promiscuous (he has been watching her having sex with different men and knows exactly what she does with and to them!!!)..in fact she has suffered tremendous torture from her father..beatings, forced abortion of her baby and even buried alive.

Things have a way of going somewhere you never thought they would go….they are unable to fight the attraction they feel for each other and Tanner soon realizes that she is his mate and cannot keep away from her.
The sex scenes…and there are many, many…are sizzling hot, steamy, sexy….they can’t keep away from each other.

I loved Scheme….such courage, strength and despite the sad, painful and terrible life she has had, never gives up. She is really a fantastic heroine…so alone most of her life and when she finds love, still having so much to overcome.

Tanner is your typical alpha-male….everything his way….but what redeems him in my eyes is the deep feelings he has for Scheme and will do anything, including giving up his life, to protect the woman he loves.

Great plot…..non-stop action, lots of sex (have I mentioned that before!!!!!)and lots of romance too!!!

I loved this book and wished I could have discovered this series earlier….but I am going out now, right now to look for more Breeds stories!!!!

When it comes to Lora Leigh's breeds I've found people either love `em or hate `em. I happen to fall in the former catagory myself and when I received (and read!) my copy of the Leigh's latest installment, Tanner's Scheme, the day of it's release- I just loved them even more!

In Tanner's Scheme, we get the same hot and wild sex, with a bit more advancement of the plot to destroy the genetically engineered breeds.

Scheme Tallant is the daughter of much hated General Tallant, a man who wants the breeds who escaped the secret facility which created and tortured them ten years ago wiped out. Tanner, a Bengal Tiger breed, is liaison for breed/human affairs and has had his eye on Scheme since his escape all those years ago. He knows she's Tallant's right hand "man" and wants to destroy her as much as the man himself. When he kidnaps her, he quickly finds all is not what it seems.

Scheme has hidden her loathing of her father for years- since he killed her mother and masterminded a plot to control her by buying off a mercenary to become her lover. After she discovers she's pregnant with the man's child, the General drugs her and aborts the baby. The day of the despicable crime against her, one of many to be sure, she meets Jonas Wyatt, a ruthless breed in nothing but the best sense, who takes her under his wing and offers her a job as double agent against her father.

Tanner, of course, doesn't know this because there is also a double agent in the breed camp as well and, to help smoke him out, Jonas leaves Scheme's true nature hidden. Despite Tanner thinking Scheme's a heartless little schemer, he's helplessly attracted to her and being a man of action, he doesn't leave the attraction go by any longer.

Tanner and Scheme have mega trust issues to work through- on both ends, but they struggle through in the best tradition of romance.

The mating "heat" process which has characterized much of Leigh's other breed stories is curiously missing between these two and I wondered what was going on, though I suspected Cabal, Tanner's twin had something to do with it. When he arrives on the scene that mystery is solved and left me longing for Cabal's story! (Although it looks like I might have to wait til 2009 to get it as the next two breeds stories scheduled for release are not his and take us up to Sept. 2008!!)

Scheme is a more than worthy heroine- smart and stubbornly strong in her nobility. Tanner, always portrayed as charming and playful up til this point is HAWT in this book and when he finally goes all alpha beasty I couldn't have been more pleased with his character development!

I felt this one is much better than Harmony's Way, which was the release just before this one, in fact I read Tanner's Scheme in one sitting because I couldn't put it down!

Really wicked!!I understand that twins are close but who could imagine this. Not that Tanner and Scheme are twins but Tanner and Cabal really share everything.Poor Scheme doesn't even know what she got herself into...

Tanner has spied Scheme for ten years before meating her face to face.He thinks he knows her but he is very wrong. When her former lover tries to kill her, after a direct order from her own father,Tanner saves her and thus "kidnaps" her. While they spent time together he learns the reasons of her actions but what he doesn't know is the consequences of her actions. He has already fallen for her and now wants her to be his mate but the mating signs aren't there. On the other side,Scheme is more than attractive to him but tries hard not to trust him cause she knows firsthand how betrayal can hurt.Scheme has important information, information that could destroy her father and save an innocent life. She doesn't know whether to trust this information to Tanner or not,so she tries to contact the only breed she can trust Jonas Wyatt. While she is figuring out to how to do that Tanner suspects that if she isn't his mate, she may be his brother's.That's when Cabal shows up.Cabal knows she is not his mate but lets Tanner think she is in order to enrage Tanner's animal. It's not too long after he finally sees the truth and claims his mate.

But danger is near and they both know it.Tanner would sacrifice his life to save her but will he be fast enough to save her or will he lose her forever??

I liked Tanner but I loved Scheme's personality more.I have to admit that there were parts that I
didn't really approve his actions but besides that he was as lovely as all the breeds.!

First let me say that the plot is A+. I really enjoyed the skeleton of the story... the concept, I guess. That being said, I have a lot of complaints.

SPOILER WARNING - I'm about to site specific examples and while I don't necessarily discuss the outcome of the events, some people might not want to know any of the events. Consider this your RAGE WARNING and LANGUAGE WARNING as well, because I'm about to go apeshit on this book.

1. For somebody that was trained to show no weakness and knew how important it was to keep that fearless facade in place, Scheme was a quivering mass of wimpy terror entirely too often. I can understand why she was terrified, but since she's written as being fearless and showing no weakness, it's too out of character. Obviously, she's not fearless. So I felt lied to, oddly enough.

2. A huge portion of this book is about Scheme simply fretting over whether or not to trust Tanner. Again, I understand why she felt like she shouldn't, but her flip flopping back and forth between trust and mistrust got tiring after the first oh, I dunno, 6 chapters? Move the hell on already. Either trust him or don't. But trusting him meant either a) getting out of the cave, surviving, stopping the bad guys, etc... or b) possibly dying. And not trusting him meant either a) maybe surviving, maybe stopping the bad guys, etc... or b) definitely dying. Why not go with the option that gets you out of the god damn cave, if not the one that has a better chance of survival?

3. Speaking of trust issues. Tanner is all pissed that Scheme doesn't trust him. He spends days trying to convince her to trust him. Note that he doesn't try to earn her trust, he tries to convince her and ply her with sex because it's not like Scheme has been betrayed by a lover before, right? *head desk* Then later on in the story, once trust has been achieved, Tanner questions Scheme's trust in somebody else and actually has the balls to ask her if anyone has ever told her she's too trusting. What the fuck, yo? After spending a week trying to get her to trust him, he should be the last person to consider her too trusting. I wanted to bitch slap Tanner for that, but it was a pleasant change from wanting to bitch slap Scheme...

4. Scheme is written as a deep, ruthless, and highly intelligent character. Call me picky, but that's not the type of character that would have multiple TSTL moments. She knows the woods are crawling with enemy Breeds working for her father (you know, the ones with elevated senses and heightened desire to maim and murder?), so she leaves the safety of the hidden cave and stumbles around, shoeless, in the woods in the dark like a god damn buffalo, crashing through brush and leaving a mile-wide trail from the hideaway for the bad guys to find. Fucking brilliant. But it gets so much worse when she shames females everywhere by explaining to Tanner that she left because she hoped he would stop her. Kill me now. Could it get worse? Oh yes, it does... when she sneaks off to a secluded area and gets kidnapped like a fucking moron - because that is what you are if you wander off alone when people are trying to kidnap and kill you.

Does it ever occur to any of these dumb bitches that the professionals that are attempting to protect them might not appreciate all their hard work going to shit when they wander off alone... LIKE A FUCKING MORON!?!?

This was just... a ton of fail. Any time I started to warm up to it, somebody did something epically stupid or ... well, just stupid. Stupid, stupid people. And I feel stupid for not DNFing it at the first TSTL moment and torturing myself with a few more.

Wow - this one was intense! I don't have to tell anyone who's read any of Leigh's Breeds sagas what the premise is; the hero in this story is a Bengal, alpha+. The book included a fair amount of descriptions of tortures and beatings, which is a turn-off to some. The thing that bothered me a little was the almost constant "Should I trust him? Yes, I DO trust him! Oh, no, no man can be trusted...", and from the hero "Is she guilty of these bad deeds? No, she can't be. But is she partially responsible for the bad things that her father has done to the Breeds? She must be! No, she's a victim, too..." and so on. Without so much of this back and forth stuff, the book could easily have been 20 or 30 pages shorter! I'm not usually looking for shorter when reading Leigh, but this time, I was a little impatient with some of the lead characters' musings. One thing that was different about this Breed tale was that it was quite a while before the actual "mating" took place. There's a reason for this, which I'll let you discover on your own.

In addition to the explicit sexual scenes, and the above-mentioned torture descriptions, there's also talk of "sharing" and some voyeurism, so steer clear if these situations bother you. If you're a Breeds fan, of course you'll love Tanner!

Great story however I had to give 3 stars because of the Cabal getting to watch Tanner and his mate have sex. Where's the possessiveness that the mates have over each other? It kinda creeped me out. However, the story was a good one though.

I did not like two of the plot developments.

The characters were ok and other plot developments were ok, but on balance, I wouldn’t recommend it unless the reader is in love with the series. The characters and sex scenes were very similar to other breed books.

This is Book 2 of The Breed series which is an offshoot of the Feline Breeds series. The Genetics Council used genetic experimentation to create humans with animal DNA, called Breeds. The Breeds were tortured, experimented upon and kept in captivity, but eventually escaped. The Council and other groups are trying to capture and/or kill them.

Jonas is a breed. He is head of the federal dept. of breed affairs. Scheme is human. She is daughter of Cyrus who is a member of the Genetics Council. Scheme hates Cyrus and becomes a spy for Jonas. Scheme continues to work for her father, but thwarts many of his activities against the breeds over a several year period. Tanner is a bengal breed who works for Jonas. They know that Cyrus has a spy among the breeds, but they don’t know who it is. Tanner doesn’t know that Scheme is working for Jonas. Tanner kidnaps her with the intent of getting evidence from her and turning her over to the Breed Council for punishment.

CAUTION SPOILERS:
Tanner saves Scheme from being killed by an assassin sent by her father, which is the beginning of his doubts that she is evil and in league with Cyrus. During the several days of the kidnapping captivity, Tanner falls in love with her and wants to help her, but she won’t communicate because she thinks Tanner might be a spy for Cyrus. If I had been in her place, I would have at least told Tanner that Scheme suspected Tanner might be a spy, and until she knew the truth she wouldn’t trust him or cooperate. Instead she was silent, and he sensed that she was lying. This was the major conflict for 2/3 of the story. This is one of my pet peeves: conflict created through vague communication and inaccurate assumptions.

My second plot problem: Cyrus wants to kidnap Scheme who is staying at the breed sanctuary. The breeds know Cyrus has a spy among them and that this will happen soon. At an evening function, Scheme secretly leaves her protectors to have a private conversation with one of the women, outside, alone. Of course, the spy comes up, shoots them with a stun gun and carries Scheme off. This was stupid. I would have preferred that the spy come up with an elaborate plan to get Scheme alone (that would foil almost anyone) and not have Scheme do something stupid to get caught.

DATA:
Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: ten, most several pages long. Setting: 2023 Washington, D.C., Kentucky and Pennsylvania. Copyright: 2007. Genre: erotic paranormal romance.

I am still completely amazed by how well Lora Leigh writes her stories, she is such a riveting author where her exciting stories just come to life; and and draws the reader into a whirlwind of passion, adventure and classick love stories that will pull at your heartstrings. the Characters: Tanner and Scheme are also deeply portrayed. Scheme has suffered greatly under the hands of her father and his minons. Scheme wants to do everything in her power to destroy him, but she knows she has to find evidence against him first, but when she is about to set her plan in motion, she is kidnapped by Tanner who at first believes her to be in league with her father. After all that he and his fellow breeds have suffered at the hands of her father, he wants revenge and justice. However upon learning the truth he goes about to protect her, no matter the cost. But Scheme doesn't know who she can really trust, but the more she spends in Tanner's arms, her will wavers and she starts to question whether or not she should let him into her life and her heart.

I truly enjoyed reading Tanner's Story, it was definitely more on the thrilling side of things. Of course I love the plot, where Scheme hides things from Tanner even though she years to trust him and not knowing if she does will it be a mistake or the biggest reward of all. Tanner on the other hands, knows she lives in fear and desperation but also can smell the lies that she tells him, there is a powerful attraction between them, but at first Tanner doesn't believe she is his mate, but time will only tell. I think this is one of those that can be a re-read. Of course if you love shifter romances, and if you love Lora Leigh than you will fall in love with Tanner's Scheme, which is a enthralling love story from beginning to end!

I know lots of readers think of Lora Leigh's Breeds series as a guilty pleasure, but here's one not to feel guilty about at all. Tanner's Scheme can strand proudly alongside any 'mainstream' paranormal romance. This is one of the best books of the series to date.

In fact, the only problem I had with this book was the heroine's name. Scheme? Really? Oh well... I've read the Black Dagger Brotherhood so what the hell. Also, the names Tanner and Tallent were a little too similar for my liking. But since that's my only problem with this book, I can't really complain.

One of the reason's this one worked so well for me was the mating heat came way after the physical and emotional relationship had already been established. I think that might be a first for this series, and it really worked. Here's hoping for more of the same.

I remember Tanner (and the brother with whom he shared everything) from previous books, and I loved learning more about them - particularly Cabal. This one has left me absolutely desperate for his book. Tanner's Scheme has really re-energised this series for me.

Chris McGranitt - per RFS
.
Salve Fenici,

For the past eight years, Scheme Tallant has led a double life as the assistant to her father, General Cyrus Tallant, a member of the Genetics Council, and as a spy for the Feline Breeds. Only the man who recruited her, Jonas Wyatt, knows the truth and her cover doesn't make her a popular person in the Breed community...But now Scheme's life is at risk because her father has realized her game and ordered her killed.

Tanner Reynolds, the golden PR boy for the Breed community, has had his eye on Scheme for the past ten years, skirting the fine line between wanting to kill her and possess her, the latter prevailing by a long shot. So when he's conveniently at hand to prevent her assassination, he doesn't think twice in snatching her away.

When she wakes up deep in the belly of a mountain, Scheme has no option but to finally admit her attraction to Tanner. But that doesn't mean she trusts him. Her father has planted a spy in the Breed compound and until she knows for sure Tanner isn't it, she's willing to share her information only with Jonas...

I absolutely adored this book. The interaction between Tanner and Scheme was electric, their plays of cat and mouse fairly invigorating, and the attraction and passion between them combustible.
The whole close quarter setting proved to be integral in the development of their relationship and the characters themselves, and once again Ms. Leigh paired the perfect two individuals. They complimented each other, understood each other perfectly even when they were still "enemies", and they had an uncanny ability to see into each other's souls, uncovering secrets and hidden truths in a blink of an eye.

It was wonderful to uncover the beast within the seemingly easy-going Tanner. From what we've seen in previous books he didn't appear to have a serious, vengeful bone in his body, yet the entire perception changed with a snap of fingers. He's one of the most complex characters so far and Scheme was his utter equal in depth and complexity. What she's gone through, the knowledge of what a monster her father was, would've destroyed someone else. She's only gotten more strong and determined for it. And because of that strength and inner demons plaguing her, it was so much more delicious seeing her slowly lowering her guards under Tanner's tender determination.

The entire book had a little bitter-sweet feeling for me. Not the kind to induce incontrollable bawling, but the hands-on-chest-going-awww kind. Especially when Tanner was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice just to see to her safety.
Which brings me to the huge inconsistency in this story. So huge in fact it almost "destroyed" the whole idea of the Mating Heat as we know it. Sure, Cabal provided a rather plausible excuse (apparently it's an animal thing), yet from what we've learned so far, that was stretched so thin it was almost transparent...But it's what provided the story, so I ain't complaining.

It was great seeing a little softer Jonas this time. He was still a manipulative SOB, but at least he seemed to care. And little David Lyons was a riot. I love that kid.
But in the end it was Cabal that got the short stick and the awww-ing from before just got stronger and I really can't wait for him to have his HEA. From what he's done for his brother, he most certainly deserves it.

Ms. Leigh backed on the action a little bit in this one, concentrating on the story and the love-hate relationship between Tanner and Scheme, but what little action we did get in the end, was more than the adequate dose. Also, the envelope-pushing voyeuristic addition to the already scorching sex scenes was a nice touch, providing yet another subtle difference from the rest of the series.

A most definitely recommended read and since this book can easily be read as a stand-alone (if you don't mind being left in the dark with some tidbits) I'd recommend it also to those not yet familiar with the Breed series.
A truly wonderful and combustible read. A keeper if there ever was one.

This is the first of the Breed novels by Lora Leigh that I've read. It is probably not the best place to start as it is several books within the series and there is a lot of background where some previous knowledge is assumed.

Having said that is was quite easy to pick up the general background. Breeds were created as a half animal/half human experiment in creating super soldiers. Thinking they'd have controllable animals/pets to do their bidding, the Genetics Council got a surprise to learn that the human side of these creatures was just as strong and the desire to live, bond and love . Now the breeds have their own governing bodies, laws, PR etc. and have established themselves as a separate race with all the necessary rights

This book features Scheme Tallant, a Genetics council double agent and Tanner, a Bengal Breed who is the Breed's PR poster boy. A charmer and a killer. He rescues Scheme from an assassination attempt just as she is trying to meet up with Jonas Wyatt, the leader of the Breeds. The two are mistrusting yet drawn to each other. He's had her under surveillance for ten years and she assumes he plans to kill her.

The plot of book is fairly typical of this series as I later found out after reading a few others. There is a powerful enemy out to get the heroine because she has some damaging information and the hero loves/helps save her. Jonas manipulates the situation in shadowy ways for the good of all Breed kind. He's a good guy who is drawn as an anti-hero. Scheme is highly sensual, Tanner is pure alpha. They have lots of sexy sex because they are in mating heat.

Although the plot has enough holes to drive a semi truck through, I can't get too mad at it. Lora Leigh writes a brisk story, it moves, and above all, she writes some scorching hot sex scenes. She doesn't use euphemisms. She's raw and a bit raunchy but she doesn't go over the line into laughable. She keeps it just this side of romantic. This is erotica with plot. A combo I like.

This is a re-read, the first I've done of Lora Leigh and I was happy to find that Tanner's Scheme is still one of my favorites by her. Tanner is the deceptively carefree Bengal Breed and Scheme the deceptively supportive daughter to one of the Breed's arch enemies, Cyrus Tallant. Her father tortured and killed countless breeds in secret labs before they found freedom. Tallant and others continue to threaten the Breeds' very existance.

For 10 years, Tanner has been drawn to Scheme, not understanding his fascination and unable to hate her as he believes she deserves. Meanwhile, Scheme has endured horrendous abuse by her father for her "mistakes" through which she is able to save Breeds' lives while remaining a spy. The book starts with Scheme trying to escape her father before he has her killed and Tanner kidnapping her while he debates whether he will kill her himself.

Tanner and Scheme have such good reasons to distrust each other. Scheme fears he may be one of her father's spies and so can not share crucial information on a plot against the Breeds. Tanner not only continues to wonder what side Scheme is on, but wants to protect her from both her father and possible Breed vengence. They doubt their passion and growing love for each other, Tanner because he is not exhibiting the known signs of a Breed in mating heat and Scheme because she doubts her judgment after being betrayed terribly by a former lover.

I enjoyed the plot with Scheme and Tanner falling in love despite their conflicts and in the face of Tallant's plots to kidnap a Breed child while the Breeds and the evil Council try to find where Tanner has hidden Scheme. The cold, mysterious, manipulative Jonas has been using Scheme as a spy. He is always interesting to watch as is Dog, the dangerous, seemingly heartless Coyote.

There is plenty of excitement, angst and LL's typical happy ending of a couple truly in love and dedicated to each other in a perilous and dark world. Tanner's Scheme is an enjoyable, rewarding, emotional ride.

Scheme Tallant planned to both defy and destroy her father, Cyrus, by handing all his files on breed testing and the secret labs to Jonas Wyatt. Cyrus concluded Scheme's decision to betray him cut their family ties. Tanner Reynolds, former enforcer and resident Breed playboy and PR rep, believes the Scheme presented as Cyrus' daughter in more ways than one. And he's fascinated but so is she.

Tanner's tired of swallowing his need for vengeance against the council. Scheme would make as good a sacrifice as any especially since they could have a bit of fun between the kidnapping and the killing. Scheme's frustrated when Jonas doesn't show for their meeting as her plan was to ask for asylum with the breeds as all trust in her father and his henchman was gone. So was her father's trust in her.

When Scheme's ex-lover, an assassin comes to Scheme's room and talks too much in preparation of doing his work, Tanner can't stop himself from killing the assassin and kidnapping her. He tries to bully Scheme into giving him answers but neither trusts the other enough to be honest and Tanner's confused by his reaction to Scheme and constantly checks for the onset of mating heat.

Both Jonas and Cyrus have plans in play that involve manipulating Scheme. Scheme's unable to trust anyone, held prisoner and with nowhere to run even if she does escape. What's a girl to do? Tanner holds Scheme against her will until he realizes he's wrong about her and how much danger she's in. And he's frustrated over a mating heat that won't come. What's a Breed to think??

This series comfortably fits in the guilty pleasure slot of my reader. At the outset of this read, Tanner's ruthlessly shrewd character was different than any Tanner even hinted at previously and didn't particularly work for this reader. I liked Scheme's character but not her name so much and felt their bone of contention went over long. As well as that of the Sanctuary Spy.

Alrighty...what to say about this book? Well, first, it took me 8 days to read. Which is a lot for someone who reads a book a day or every other. Second, there was just SO MUCH sex. I mean, yeah I like it, but it didn't really enhance the storyline. And some of the stuff was just flat out ridiculous. At one point Tanner tells Scheme that he jerked off while watching her sleep....let that sink in....!!!!! If someone said that shit to me, I'd punch them in the balls! How creepy is that? The "plot" was alright, if done well, it could have been interesting. Another thing that totally pissed me off was that the "bad guy" of the book is not even introduced until 30 pages from the end. Yeah, I was surprised, but NOT because of the writing, because you never even mentioned that person before! Sorry for the rambles. Anyways I spent at least 2 hours of this reading out loud to my husband and giggling like a twelve year old. I guess that's why it gets 2 stars instead of 1.

I first read this book over 11 years ago and at the time really enjoyed the series, at the time I rated it five stars. I’m sorry to say my tastes have completely changed, this rating is for the audible version, the narrator was simply awful, Scheme came across as a winer and a moaner and Tanner’s character wasn’t much better. I used to love alpha males who claimed their mates and said “MINE”, but not anymore, he took, just because she was his mate!!, and after stating for half the book he didn’t trust her and she didn’t trust him for the first half of the book. 70 % of the book is in the same location: The Caves. Im glad I borrowed this audible version free from the library, maybe it would have been better if I read it myself but I will never know. I couldn’t stand the narrator. Also too much sex, love a good sex scene, but it was just too much.

3.50 / 4 Stars

I'm going to start off with a pet peeve of mine. I'm not crazy about male names for women or overtly strange ones. Scheme's name made me roll my eyes. Okay...now for the story itself. I liked the breed storyline and enjoyed Tanner and Scheme's relationship. Did wonder if Tanner's twin brother would end up in the mix.

Tanner has long been a book crush for me!! So happy to see him get his mate! I was sorta hoping for a menage with his twin but still a great book regardless. Very intriguing story-line. As with much of the breeds you have to disregard foreshadowing that never follows through!

This was a bit of a darker twist to one of my favorite series. I have never been into the all get taken and fall for your kidnappers novels, even if it was for Scheme’s own good.
This book follows are favorite playboy bagel brothers, Tanner and Cabal, trail a double agent and work to find the spy hidden within sanctuary. These two brother have shared everything, could they share a mate?
It’s action packed with good sex, need I say more?
A plot to steel one of the first breed children begins to unravel, characters tragic past are brought to life, the pure blood organization is getting ready to strike, and the secret of the first Leo is getting close to being discovered.

I actually really liked this one. I know some have disliked it, but I thoroughly enjoyed every word. I fell in love with Tanner in this book, though I REALLY fell in love with Cabal, too. Plus Scheme was entertaining. Stubborn, but for good reasons which made it an excellent book, instead of annoying. Plus seriously sexy scenes. Just awesome.
