Cooper never thought he'd see Alec again, let alone owe the man his life, so while Cooper might still have feelings for Alec, he's not sure he wants to open himself up to that kind of hurt.

Now, six months later, Alec wants to discuss their past and plan their future. But before Cooper can come to terms with Alec being back in his life he has to discover who’s killing young gay men before he and Alec become the next victims. Between undercover assignments and startling revelations, Cooper and Alec don't know if their fragile relationship can survive. Can they solve the case and find a way to be together?

I love this book! The sequel to "A Promise Kept", "A Promise Given" was, if it's possible, better than the first. It has everything that I like in a book. Love and sex (obviously), but mystery, an ensemble cast of characters who fit perfectly together, a touch of angst, and two main characters who will melt your heart and your panties.

PIcking up pretty much where "A Promise Kept" left off, Detective Cooper Thomas is recovering from being kidnapped and tortured by a serial killer. The killer is now in jail, and he feels like he can recover and get back to his job. However, his old boyfriend who left him without a note or even taking his things, Alec Whitley, is bound and determined to protect Coop and get him back. Alec had his reasons, though, and all he wants to do is to get Coop to understand and realize that he will never leave him again, no matter what.

While they're finding their way back to each other, another killer is on the loose, and the murders and abductions are mirror images of the ones that the man in jail committed. The concern is that this new killer, whether he's a copycat or a partner, will go after the survivors. Soon, Coop is working with Alec, his partner Jordan, the chief of police, and a few other friends we've met along the way, to solve this mystery before anyone else gets hurt.

This is what I liked about this one so much. There is a lot going on, and that makes the story very exciting. Yes, we have the fear of a new killer, and the urgency of trying to catch him, but we also have Coop and Alec trying to make a go of their relationship after Alec left ten years ago. Coop has to learn to trust Alec again, and Alec is willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen. As the puzzle is being assembled, there is some wonderful loving happening. I mentioned that the sex was fantastic. Stormy Glenn really knows how to write a sex scene. Coop and Alec are so, so hot together. It's not just sex for sex's sake, either. These are men who loved each other ten years ago, and they STILL love each other, they just need to TRUST. At times, their lovemaking is simply slow and sexy, and other times, it feels desperate and frantic. Either way, Coop and Alec will make you swoon.

As I mentioned, this is the second installment in the "Promise" series. It can be read as a stand alone. There is enough info about the first that you won't be lost or confused, but I do recommend that you read "A Promise Kept" because it is a great book on its own. I also saw where their could be several other sequels with some of the other characters, and I look very forward to seeing if that will be the case. Excellent, excellent story. Definitely read this one.

I liked this sequel to A Promise Kept which I read way back in 2012. In this story, Cooper and Alec finally get back together after being apart for ten years. Alec had left Cooper without a word back then and he finally has a chance to explain why.

Though the reason is somewhat lame, it's understandable for a young man to have thought that way, but he's been biding his time and takes a chance to get back with Cooper once Cooper has been rescued from his kidnapping (in the first book.).

There's some steamy sex in their reunion but there's also moments of tenderness and there's certainly action and adventure, explosions, more kidnapping and a final resolution and the shock of finding out who has been behind the scenes all along.

All in all, this is an enjoyable series, and though it stops with this book, there's plenty of opportunity for the author to expand on secondary characters and create more stories in the future.

This is a great sequel to A Promise Kept, telling the story of two of the secondary characters, detective Cooper and his long-lost lover Alec.

There is a good deal of suspense because the serial killer who was just put in prison at the end of the first book seems to reappear. The emotional intensity of Cooper and Alec being reunited and Cooper struggling to accept Alec's explanation for his sudden disappearance the years ago kept me interested. The solution at the end is ingenious.

Mystery is not normally a genre I enjoy, but Stormy Glenn is one of the authors who makes it work for me. I really liked this book.

Didn't liked the couple.

The had sex at really inappropriate moments. One's a cop, the other a P.I., talk about professional. End up skinning the sex scene.

Alec's only here because his father's die, he admit himself that he was about to married a woman and that he was to continue to living this life when the man died...Add to the fact that it's took him fives years to 'contact' Cooper...
Nah, don't love him and don't believe in his 'Love' for Cooper.

If they take victim in BDSM club, how Mason fit in this?

The revelation of the big guy at the end was unbelievable. Ruined the story for me.

Better than the 1st, but WTF?! I don't understand the "giving in". If you don't want to be around someone, then don't. You are allowed to kick people out of your house. Ignore calls. Walk around someone to get away from them. I mean, there are ways to avoid people.

Somewhere along the line, I lost interested in both the plot and the couples.

Also it felt like every character was chuckling about a million time in this book. lol

SG should just stick to her genre, romance, and leave the mystery hocus pocus in a box. This book was 30% romance, 30% sex, and 30% mystery, which translated to sheer boredom. SG is not mystery author material, and as much as I tried, I couldn't care about the mystery at all. The romance resolved itself early in the book, so no tension there to keep me interested as well. Just lots of sex... interviews... sex... interviews... zzz...

I loved this book, the second in the Promise series. Stormy Glenn continues the storyline from the first book and the characters. I would love to read John and Ben's story and Dominick Sylva and Jordan I think their chemistry would be really hot!

I was afraid I’d feel the same about Cooper and Alec’s story as I did about Jack and Mason. In some ways, I did, but in others I enjoyed these two much more. The police procedure was still crappy but the ending pretty much nailed it for me. Great job, Stormy!

A Promise Given is not only the sequel of A Promise Kept, following the story of Cooper, the friend with benefits of Mason and Jack, but it has also a common theme: a love that is lasting for years even if the lovers didn’t have the chance to enjoy it.

Cooper is apparently a balanced man, happy with his gay life, out with friends and family and always ready to help a friend in need. But Cooper has also a dark past, a lover who suddenly disappeared without notice, Alec, and now, as suddenly as well, is come back in his life. At first I didn’t like Cooper’s attitude, refusing to give Alec a chance to explain why he did what he did years before, but then I tried to understand him a bit: even if Cooper seems a strong man, he has never overcome the hurting of losing Alec, and now he doesn’t want to risk his heart again. But Cooper is not betting with his heart, since he has never gained it back again, he lost his heart to Alec 10 years before and the heart is still there, in Alec’s hand. So it’s only right that, after a bit of suffering for a little vengeance, Cooper will forgive Alec.

This story is a little different from the usual plot by Stormy Glenn, since there is not an obvious top and bottom. And ab absurbo, both Cooper than Alec are not what the reader is expecting them to be: Cooper is a police detective, Alec a specialist in security, both of them are good candidate to be the leader in the relationship, and maybe the reader is expecting a clashing of titans, a fight to have the upper hand in the relationship, but in the end, when they are in the private of their bedroom, nor Cooper or Alec are superior to each other, and they don’t want to be. This is probably a consequence to have been lovers when they were really young and in a forming period of their life; true, they were apart for 10 years, but they have too much in common, they know each other too much to turn the table of their relationship: Cooper and Alec will always be on the same level, in the bedroom and in life.

Well, I certainly found this sequel far less confusing than the first book in the series! *grin*

Yeah, it was a little bland in places and I can't believe I actually figured out the bad guy without much effort, because, truthfully, I didn't think there were that many clues... it was just a stray thought for me that proved right... how weird is that? LOL!!!

I still have Mason "issues" and all that sitting on Jack's lap and being taken care of... which is fine, but I would have liked to have seen him making progress with his degree and moving on with his life... but, that's just me! Cooper and Alec's relationship kinda took backstage to all of the story plots, but we still go to see them work on their issues both personal and on the job, so, I can't complain!

I really feel like Ms. Glenn had intended to write at least one more book for this series, I would love to read Ben and John's story and of course, there is Jordan and Dom's story... I find the dynamics of that pairing intriguing! But, I guess we will just have to wait and see!

I’ve read A Promise Kept and had to read the sequel !!

So Cooper and Alec’s story
How Alec left him 10 years ago without an explanation
and how Cooper still loves him
Despite how Alec left him broken hearted (blablabla)

The frequent inappropriate sex scenes which I skipped a lot of times because seriously you just got home from the hospital
(with a concussion ect.)
Your friend is missing but hey lets have some shower sex…
yeah like WTF??

But I’ve kept on reading for the sake of the case and the "copycat killer".
Cooper and Alec’s “Love story “ was not important to me!!
The MC’s:hmm I liked Cooper because of the previous book
In this book he comes off as a little needy, every time there is break in the case
he or Alec has to have a couple minutes to kiss or be cheesy together yeah I love you blabla…
Come On!!
I just want to know what happened or what kind of evidence there is.
I was just so into reading about Wallace’s accomplice /copycat killer/slave ring
The rest was just secondary to me…
The surprised twist at the end loved it !!

I can’t wait for the next book !!
John or Silva??

I had been so looking forward to getting and reading this book. All the pain and heartache that I read in A Promise Kept that Cooper went through just broke my heart and made me need to know what had happened and how things turned out.Of course there was truly evil in this story and a awful surprise as well but it all, like my Aunt would have said , "came out in the wash". I absolutely love Alec and Cooper together. Not just their story and the love they have that lasted through the terrible years they were separated, but their sense of oneness and compassion for their friends and each other. I love the supporting characters as well and look forward to the next in this series. The story flowed so well and kept me so entertained that I got through far quicker than I had hoped. That's ok though because I will just have to go back and re read it again.

well now I really enjoyed this and cant wait for the next one. The story was believable and the characters had real depth, This carried on from book 1 but you could read it on its own and still understand all the in and outs of the tale.

Cooper was one of the excellent support cast in the first book A Promise Kept. Along with Alec he gets his own chance for a HEA. On the way there is hot man on man interaction and police type action with a nasty little twist at the end. Wonderful stuff!
