FOR USE IN SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES ONLY. When the class visits the Hugh Mann Costume Company, they get an informative lesson about the importance of the human skeleton and the various purposes different bones of the body serve.
I enjoyed this book because I like bones. I also enjoyed this book because I liked the part when some creepy skeleton bones that glowed green appeared and disappeared. They were workers at a bone place.
I got this and the magic school bus “Truth about bats” on the annual book crawl in San Diego. These two came from Verbatim Books. This was a great presentation about our bones, number, shapes, and even a bit about bone marrow making blood cells! This was very interesting and I hope to read it to my grandson in a year or two! I’ve taken anatomy and I learned a bit! Recommended!
Is it high quality literature? No. Is it endearing? Yes. And thank you to the brilliant person on the internet who suggested doing a skeletal unit study with this book and using washable marker to draw each bone learned in the chapter on their child's body to practice it all day. My kids were more excited to learn a new bone than follow the story. But it was cute, and I'll read it again.
I was stressing the fact that my boys wanted to learn about the skeletal system next and I didn't have any books yet didn't want to haul them all to the library. So I thought to myself, "Self, go check your overflowing bookcase upstairs and see what you can find, if they don't fall on you and kill you first." Well, I'm not dead and I found this book. I pretty much buy any Magic School Bus book I can find (sometimes twice, oops).
All the boys loved it. It was "scary" and they were "freaked out" by the howling clock and the disappearing skeletons. All of this said with big grins on their faces and lots of begging to keep reading.
Each chapter takes you through a part of the body - feet, legs, spine, head, etc. While it is fairly detailed I'd pair it with a hands-on project or experiment to help cement the learning. I also found it helpful for them identify the bone we were reading about in their own body.
This is typical Magic School Bus so if you don't like the writing style, you won't like this book. I didn't so much appreciate the scary skeleton stuff, but it wasn't bad. And like I said, the boys loved it.
We read this in a week. A good reader could read this independently along with some projects and come away with a good understanding of the bones.
The Search For The Missing Bones is a nonfiction book that is from the recommended list and is intended for readers ages 7-10. The Magic School Bus: The Search For The Missing Bones is about a teacher named Ms. Friz and her students taking a trip on the Magic School Bus and going to Skeleton City. In the book series, the Magic School Bus takes Ms. Friz and her students to the most crazy, unexpected places. I gave the book a 4 star rating because the plot is spontaneous and will have the reader surprised with what is going to happen on the trip. The characters each have different personalities, but Ms. Friz has the most distinct personality. Ms. Friz is fun, crazy, and keeps the story interesting. In the book, there are some illustrations but they lack color. The use of language allows the reader to imagine themself in the story, as if they were there. For example, one sentence says, "Whatever it was, it kept howling until it had howled eleven times". The detailed descriptions in the book give illusions of sound and sight, so the reader can feel the experience of what the characters were going through. I believe this book is and would be appealing to children because they may have seen then TV show and want to read the book as well. The book may also be appealing to young readers because the journey's the class take are exciting and filled with magic.
Ms. Frizzle is a science teacher and as she is teaching skeleton and bones so she ordered a costume where many bones are missing. She decided to take her students on a field trip to the costume factory where all students trying to find the bones. Moreover, they learned the names of bones and what do those bones do?
My uncle got me this one. I used to love watching magic School bus when I was a kid. I didn't even realize this was a Halloween book until I was already reading it. Which worked perfect for me since it is the month of October and almost Halloween.
Miss Frizzle gets skeleton costumes for the class however some of the bones for the costumes are missing and they take a trip to the factory or the costumes are made so they can get their bones. It's educational it tells you a lot about your bones in your body it was also a little cute scare like thing with skeletons not too horrifying though. Really loved it.
Somehow I never have experienced the Magic School Bus books until now. I love how it's a fictional story AND non-fiction treasure chest of facts all in one entertaining read. Perfect for those starting to read chapter books that gravitate towards non-fiction.
Mr. Friz takes the Magic School Bus and kids to find their missing bones off of their costumes. I like how the author incorporates fun and learning together so my son enjoys the story, yet is learning something at the same time.
My six-year old made me read it straight through! True, it was during the Coronavirus quarantine and he was hard up for entertainment, but I think he really did enjoy it.
John Paul and I read this together in just a few nights and he didn't even complain that it was a chapter book. I picked this up used and will probably look for more in this series.
Who’s more fun than Ms. Frizzle when it comes to teaching science to little minds? Ms. Frizzle is the best and we love The Magic School Bus. Wonderful homeschool addition to our human body studies.
For a children’s book, this was a really informative and cute book, would really recommend this book for younger kids, had such a great time reading this to the kids I was babysitting
the first thing i do with a book is figure out why the book is called the name.i know why they named the book the seach for the missing bones because mrs.frizzle goes to a store and gets costumes and they mix them up and the class goes back to find the missing bones.a ghost is following them. the ghost kindnapped liz.but it turns out the ghost is realy just a person who works there.at the end a worker gives them masks for there costumes even one for liz .you should read this book.i loved the magic school bus chapter book.
My eight-year-old has loved The Magic School bus ever since she was four. She checked this library book out, and wanted me to read it after her. I have to admit, it was pretty good, and probably one of the more interesting Magic School Bus stories, centered around bones and Halloween. So, it was perfect for her to read at this time of year. Of course, it does not have the beautiful, interesting illustrations of the Magic School Bus picture books, but the story makes up for it. She says, "It was very fun to read it, and it has a mystery in it."
This is a fun and not-too spooky Halloween tale about skeletons in the Magic School Bus chapter books series. The class does a great job hunting for the missing bones in their costumes and learning about the function, design and makeup of the bones and joints to see how they support our bodies. It's a great story to read aloud to children, especially at Halloween. We really enjoyed reading it together.
1. The Magic School Bus #2 2. 10/25 = 40 minutes, 10/26 = 50 minutes 3. terrific teacher, science, Halloween, The Magic School Jet, Skelton, costume company, missing bones 4a. Ms. Frizzle had gotten a costume for herself and a special lizard skeleton suit for Liz. 4b. I wish my science teacher taught me about bones like this! 5. There are a little bit difficult words for bones' name, but there are many good illustrations, so I could understand.
This book is really good.Is about that Ms.Frizzle ordered her class skeleton costumes for them so some of the bones from the costumes were missing so Ms.Frizzle took them to the Hugh Mann Costume Company to find the bones that they had missing in their costumes. They learn new names of bones and they learn alot about them.
Another entertaining and informative book. There was lots of feeling around for our bones while reading and I even did a demonstration of the difference between a hinge joint and a ball and socket joint.
