It's hard enough for Eve to adjust to a new high school without the extra weight she's gained over the summer. Her best friend is ashamed to hang out with her, and she's become the focus of a schoolmate's cruelty. Determined not to be "that pathetic fat girl" at school, Eve struggles with a diet and forces herself to join a mentoring program. The diet only makes her food obsessed, and she feels she is failing as a mentor. How can a lonely fat girl gain the confidence she needs to succeed?

After working all summer at an unpleasant job in a convenience store, Eve is about ready to start high school carrying some unwanted weight. Fast food and junk food are plentiful in a convenience store, and Eve ate her fair share. Now, she is barely fitting into her baggiest jeans and raiding her father's closet for shirts that will cover up her bulging tummy.

On the first day of school, Eve overhears Zoe describing her as a "blob". It's upsetting - but mostly because Eve realizes she might be right.

Using the wonderful world of the Internet, Eve finds a diet that looks promising. Day 1 - eat as much fruit as you want. Day 2 - eat as many veggies as you want. It doesn't look too bad until Day 4 - only eat bananas and drink milk. Eve thinks bananas are okay, but she hates milk. She gives the diet a try, but all she thinks about is food, food, and more food. When she finds herself beginning to cheat, she gives up.

Can her mother's compliments and encouragement keep her on track? Maybe joining the Mentor Club will give her the incentive to lose those unwanted pounds.

BLOB by Frieda Wishinsky examines a very common struggle. Everyone seems to battle the issue of weight at least once in their life. Teens are especially vulnerable to the peer pressure associated with looking just right. Wishinsky's character feels the frustration of dieting but learns to handle her situation in a healthy way, both physically and mentally. She provides teens with a positive role model for dealing with a weight issue.

After the summer vacation, Eva went to school the first day of school. She is very nervous because she had gain more weight during her vacation. When she get to school, she saw her best friend Sarah and Zoe are walking together. As Eva walk closer to them, what she heard is that Zoe said "when I saw Eva during the summer, she is gaining weight and she look likes a blob". Eva can't believed that Zoe is talking about her like that. She did not ever say about Zoe anything. And she is hard to believed that Sarah is not helping or saying anything but just listen. Eva walk up to Zoe and said hi to her. But Zoe kept talking and did not pay attention on purpose. After a few minutes, Zoe is saying louder and louder. People all around them could heard what Zoe is talking about. Eva walk passed Sarah and went to her class. She can't believed that she, Sarah, and Zoe are in the same home room. When home room is over, Eva walk to Sarah and ask her about what is her first class. Zoe walk passed Eva and said "I have the same schedule as Sarah, and bye blob". Eva can't believed that Zoe said that out loud in front of other people. She is disappointed that Sarah did not stand out and help her. Eva is not sure is Sarah is her best friend.

" Blob" by Frieda Wishinsky is a very interesting story which talks about a teens journey of how she gains her confidence back from gaining weight over the summer and was bullied by a classmate, Zoe. Eve has gained some weight over the summer and when she returned to school her classmate Zoe, who was skinny and had like the perfect body type, talked behind Eve's back and bullied her. Eve ended having not as many friends but she a few friends and those are the ones who are the true friends who wouldn't leave or tease her because of Eve's size. From the mean things Zoe has been saying to Eve she still didn't give up instead she signed up for a program to help other younger girls with low confidence or self-esteem. There are some things about them that are different from normal kids. Eve met was paired with a girl with a scar on her face called Stephanie. At first Eve and Stephanie had a difficult time communicating but later on they started to talk more often and even went to the movies together. And like that both these girls felt a lot happier and their size/ scar wasn't that much of a problem.

In this book, you will learn what real friends are. In the book, Eve's 'best' friend Sarah betrays on her since Eve is fat and Zoe is skinny. However, Eve finds her real best friend, Stephanie. I think that real best friend should not be caring about how each other looks like that much. Although Eve is fat, but it does not mean that Sarah can not be a friend with Eve. Best friends should not be determined by how good the person is. Best friend should not care about each other's bad facts even other people make insults about it.

This very short book is a good read, especially since the author has limited time considering the number of pages.

The subject matter, eating disorders, is close to my heart and the author did a good job of portraying how crazy the diet mentality is. Thankfully, the main character manages to find her own beat and to eat in a healthy way - minus the ridiculous diet she was in.

I have to say that the kind of got the healthy eating thing quickly, which I am not sure was realistic. Wouldn't it be great if eating disorders were so quickly fixed. Rather I think the author was simply portraying a young girl entering puberty and gaining a bit of weight. There is a potential for eating disorder, but it sounds as though the main character got off that crazy bandwagon.

I think this was more about bullying and I am so happy there wasn't this level of bullying when I went to school.

Love the writing and pacing.

Over summer break Eve found herself working at a convenience store, and due to eating a lot there, she gained some weight. At first, she didn't think much of it until, she overheard Zoe making unpleasant comments about her and calling her a "blob."

Eve gets motivated to loose weight and starts her diet. With support from her few friends and mother, could she survive the diet? Well, that's on you to figure out.

Overall the book itself was very relatable and a lot of people, especially teens face extra wight and don't feel confident. But, reading the book makes you feel like you're not alone. The author wrote it realistically and I definitely recommend!

Covers issues faced by many children in a straightforward manner. The trick is to spend time helping someone else which stops you ruminating over your own problems & often lightens the load by reducing the feeling of being alone. The mentoring program was a great idea. Eve is a good role model as she learns to deal with her own issues in a sensible & healthy way.

An enjoyable tale & the audio was well done.

Meh, probably has good intentions about body positivity and standing up to bullies but there's an underlying fattist theme.

Eve's start at a new high school is a bit rough. She gained some weight over the summer and only knows a few girls at her new school; one of the girls is cruel and hurtful. Eve struggles to find her place and self-acceptance.
The novel lacks depth and is focused on the superficial, but is a decent-enough read.

When Eve gains a few pounds over the summer, she has to cope with starting high school with a new nickname, "Blob." While trying to deal with Zoe's taunting, Eve hopes that joining the mentor program will help her overcome her own problems.

A struggle of bias of fatness. Eve who is a fat girl and some of her friends is bias to her. The story is successful, but rarely it can be boring for a few page. However, I am not regret. I can recommend it.

For once, an issue book where the protagonist is not a doormat. She actually had supportive parents and did something about her "problem."
