How do you send a killer to the grave when he’s already dead?

Having narrowly averted an (under)World War, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans’s voodoo queen just keeps on giving—leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit.

Centuries ago, Heinrich Kramer was a witch hunter. Now, every All Hallows Eve, he takes physical form to torture innocent women before burning them alive. "Do you know Kramer considered women responsible for everything from impotence to failed crops-and that's not getting started on his obsession with their inherently evil, insatiable slutty natures, of course." Bones's mouth curled. "Want to kill him a great deal now, do you?" "Oh, so much."-Cat and Bones

"You seem pretty relaxed about this whole situation," I said with mild exasperation, noting the nonchalance in his tone and vibe. Bones all but rolled his eyes. "Why wouldn't I be? For the first time in years, our relationship is solid, no one's actively trying to murder us, and our closest mates are happy. Blimey, Kitten, if I were any more relaxed, I'd need a smoke."-Cat and Bones

One Grave at a Time, the 6th book in the Night Huntress Series, was a awesomely action packed read. Though I enjoyed it, I didn't enjoy it as much as the others in this series. I think it was because there was so much going on with the plot that there wasn't a lot of Bones and Cat time. Their relationship kinda took a backseat in this book, and I missed them.

"That's right, honey, state your claim on Mr. Yummy Pants. I'd do the same if I were you."-Tyler

 photo cat and bones_zpsas8aussp.jpg

"I've watched you barely escape death several times, and each instance killed me a little inside. They may be dormant now, but we have enemies both cunning and cruel. Knowing you possess the power to defeat most of them doesn't threaten me, luv. It relieves me to my very core."-Bones

This book centers around Heinrich Kramer. Kramer a evil ghost that every year picks 3 women to rape and burn for being witches. He can do this because he becomes whole on Halloween flesh and all. When Cat becomes 1 of the 3 women he has chosen, will she and bones be able to find a way to stop Kramer? Will she be able to save herself and the other two women from a fiery grave?

"There's no need to worry," I said while wondering if I'd have to stop some of them from calling the police. "We don't kill people-well, not people who don't deserve it, that is, and-" Graham screamed, trying to run for the door. Bones had him dangling by the front of his shirt in the next blink, throwing me a sardonic look. "Best not to mention any killing in a reveal speech, luv."-Cat and Bones

"The myths got some things right. Superspeed is one of them." "What did the myths get wrong?" he asked at once. "Uncontrollable need to kill, wooden stakes, exploding in sunlight, cringing at crosses, lack of reflection, and, oh, the stiff-collared capes. I mean, honestly, who would go out in public wearing one of those?" "Fashion tragedy," Tyler agreed.-Cat, Chris, and Tyler

I really missed Bones and Cat in this one. Though there is a few sweet moments and one awesome flying sex scene the lack of Bones and Cat alone time made me a little sad :( This book introduces us to the next villain that we will see more of in book 7, Madigan. I also missed Vlad and Mencheres in this book, but I got lots of yummy Ian. I really really need Ian's book to come out soon. I am so not good with waiting. Patience is not my virtue!

"Francine got frightened by a noise and cut herself after squeezing a sage glass too hard," Ian supplied. "Your mum pounced on her and started sucking away. Would've been arousing if not for all the screaming." "Ian," Bones drew out warningly. He grinned. "You're right. I was aroused anyway."-Ian and Bones

 photo 15367221_zpsyt7foqwb.gif

"Blah blah blah, I'm a slutty witch, and the fires of hell await me, blah. You really need some new material. My mother can curse me out better than that."-Cat

That being said, Kramer was evil and cringingly disgusting. The backstory of his witch hunting and the real book that he wrote gave me a lot to think about as I googled him. It's hard to think about some of the things that have happened in history. I felt the book moved at a nice pace and was full of action and kick ass fights. I am looking forward to Vlad's book next as I am reading in the order of the Night Huntress Universe book list. Please Please I am not above begging Please Jeaniene Frost I need Ian's book soon!!!!!

"You remember the first time I did that?" I murmured, slipping my arms around him. "We were dancing." His voice was richer with the desire I felt rising in him. "And you were taunting me with how much I wanted you." I smiled against his skin, tracing another sensitive spot with my tongue and enjoying his resulting shudder. "I didn't know that then. I just thought you were easy." His laugh rumbled out, hard arms tightening around me. "I was, but I still wanted you more than I believed possible. You don't know how mad you drove me those first several weeks. It tormented me seeing you every day and being unable to touch you because you hated me." "I hated myself more." Another whisper, but this one he heard. "You showed me how to accept myself, and I loved you long before I could admit it to you."-Cat and Bones

Honestly? I am slightly disappointed.

So many things which I love about this series seemed to be missing here. I still hope that other books after this one will better.
The only good thing about this one was Ian and Tyler. I felt like half of the book was about nothing and just repeating the same idea. The plot was very stretched; I'm still not sure what I think about Krammer. It just seemed so out of this series if that makes sense.

Plus, I'm so over Justine.

I began One Grave at a Time with this expression: and ended with this one:
Photobucket

The main reasons why I adore the Night Huntress novels:

1. Bones.
2. Cat.
3. The romance between the two.
4. Amusing and awesome side characters (Vlad!).
5. Lots of awww-worthy scenes.
6. An utterly engaging plot.

Of those six reasons, only one of them is found in One Grave at a Time in abundance, and that is Cat. There is not nearly enough Bones, none of Vlad, almost no cute and heart-stopping fights/playful bantering between Cat and Bones, and a terribly boring plot.

Yes, I love the way Cat and Bones's relationship has matured. No, I do not like the fact that it is apparent only in a few select scenes throughout the entire book while the rest of the book is dedicated to Fabian and his ghostly friend's problem.

A wave of pleasure brushed against my subconscious, drifting out from the shields Bones had erected around himself as soon as our helicopter landed. He liked that I’d added the last name he’d been born with to my own. That was all the officiating I needed to decide that I’d be Catherine Crawfield Russell from this day forth.

And who the hell led me to believe that there was lots of Ian in this book? Yes, Ian was in a lot of scenes, but he was never the center of attention in said scenes. He appeared, imparted some witty comment, and disappeared. I don't think he even said more than 10 sentences in the entire book.

And I ask once more, where has VLAD disappeared off to?!!! If this is Frost's way of making us anticipate Once Burned even more, it's working.

A lot of people disliked the previous book, but I loved it because there was plenty of the main attraction this series holds for me in it: the characters. That is definitely not the case in OGT. This book had a lot of action, but none of it stands out against any of the other UF/PNR novels out there. OGT reminded me of Sookie Stackhouse and most of the novels in that series, with a lot of mystery and action but not enough story. While that doesn't bother me in SS, it does bother me when it happens in NH because I simply don't read NH for the action or plot. I read it for Bones, Cat, and their relationship with each other and their friends.

The plot itself isn't really that bad. The chasing-the-criminal routine is way more dragged out than needed, but my main problem is still the fact that this is not what I look for or expect or want when I read an NH novel. I expect myself to be wowed and wooed, not bored and disappointed. This book is extremely short, and I'm not referring to the page count.

I really hope the next book is dynamic and epic and extraordinary, or I might just lose interest in this series altogether.

Jeaniene Frost did it to me again! She took me on a journey that outdone her prior adventures with the infamous Cat and Bones! Jeaniene's ability to induce the scenes into my imagination is simply supernatural!

Cat's venture this time has to be the most cruel and frightening of them all, not to mention frustrating. I was angered by a couple of characters this time, Madigan and Heinrich, which the reader will discover for themselves are easily hated!!

Of course Cat had her faithfuls beside her or reaching her in the nick of time but even knowing that at some point the happy ending will be here, we still plough through with fingers gripping the pages.

I'm now left with a couple of questions, e.g. Uncle Don and Madigan, but we now know that one of Cat's friends and one of our favourite characters is going to branch out on his own, Vlad of course, and we may get some answers there... who knows, but it will be well worth reading onwards to find out!

Love LOVE LOVE this series and it is highly recommended to you all!!!

Does anyone want to explain why the hell I can't seem to leave?

Ghosts and witches and Halloween.
And of course our friendly and unfriendly vampires.

Cat still carries the residual effects of Marie Laveau's blood magic, so expect lots and lots of ghosts in this book.

Heinrich Kramer is an evil ghost who hates women. When he was still alive he used to burn women accusing them for witchcraft. When he died, his very strong spirit stayed so now every year around Halloween, his body becomes physical again and he chooses women to torture and burn for being witches. Cat tries to find him and destroy him in order to help her ghostly friend, Fabian who wants to help his ghostly girlfriend Elizabeth (Obviously ghosts do not like loneliness). But soon Cat will realise that she is one of the chosen women by Kramer and her life is in danger.

About the rest of the characters:

-Mencheres and Vlad are not present in this book, while the rest of the characters make small appearances - especially Spade and Denise.

“You’re shagging a woman who can turn into a dragon? Blast you, Charles, I am sick with envy!”

-Tyler is a cute new character, a psychic who can communicate with spirits.

“I thought Bones looked like a little slice of heaven, but you're the whole cake, aren't you, sugar?”

-Moreover, Cat's uncle, Don, has apparently stayed around as ghost, while Madigan (an old rival of Don) will take Don's place. A new enemy maybe?

Overall the book was entertaining. Kramer was the most perfect, most cunning, nastiest bad guy. His story is rather spooky and less adventurous, so it is perfect for a Halloween read.

Nothing like a bad guy that you truly hate, and this book has one. The guy is a ghost who used to torture women and burn them at the stake as "witches" all while spouting bible verses at them. Thank God that men don't use the religion to hurt and oppress women in this day and age. Those were barbaric times.

Cat and Bones are trying to figure out how to kill a ghost when he's already dead. Turns out that it's kinda hard. Who knew? So, Ghostman is really screwing with them. He keeps materializing and kicking their asses. He's the king of the unwanted "pop-in".

Oh, no, please don't call first! Have a seat and tell me why you are invading my space.

The book kind of dragged on. It was just them running from one place to another and then getting their asses handed to them over and over again. So, it got a bit boring because of this. And, then finally, when there is going to be a final showdown, Cat makes some stupid decisions that really pissed me off. She agrees not to go off on her own, which was good, and then... she goes off on her own!! To a ghost who kicks her ass and knows how to kill her! To a guy who she KNOWS is planning to rape her, torture her, and then burn her to death! I was so angry that I had a hard time finishing the story. I also was thinking she deserved everything that she got because of her own stupidity.

So, there is one book left and I am reading it for closure, but still...

I didn't like it. I didn't hate it. I did expect more. Part of the allure of this series is the great cast of characters: Cat and Bones and their amazing secondary characters - Ian, Spade, Mencheres, Marie, and Justine. This book fell flat for me. Once again, I found myself with the dreaded book ADHD. I constantly put down the book and did other stuff. I never did that with the earlier books.

Here's the thing - Cat and Bones have lost their sizzle. Yes, Bones is still hot and he has rippling muscles, yada yada. Bones is oh, so sexy. But the heat of the first 4 books is lost and nowhere to be found. Yes, there was a sexy chapter, but nothing like the infamous chapter 32 of book 2.

The secondary characters have always added a lot to this series. Sadly, Vlad and Mencheres were missing in action. Marie, the ghoul queen, was mentioned many times but did not even merit a cameo appearance. Cat's mom Justine, the woman we all loved to hate seemed to have been neutered. And to make her a vegetarian vampire? What's up with that? Of all the people who have been made into vampires, I imagined Justine as a bloodthirsty, scary vampire. Instead, she was trying to get sustenance from meat packages at grocery stores. Ick! Spade was boring. Denise was a welcome surprise, too bad her role could not have been expanded.

I think that Ian and Tyler saved the book with their well-timed lines.

I did find the book a little repetitive at first. There seemed to be a lot of recapping of events. I also found that the secondary story line revolving around Madigan and Don did not seem to fit, or maybe I just didn't care about it.

Big Bad or Heinrich Kramer was repulsive. I found that he just annoyed me and got on my nerves towards the end.

Not sure if I can recommend this book to anyone. If you are a die-hard fan, I'm sure you'll enjoy this book. Otherwise, it's best to stop at book 4.

Some great quotes I loved:

"You're shagging a woman who can turn into a dragon? Blast you, Charles, I am sick with envy!"

"Family. Aren't they a motherfucker sometimes?"

It seems that the cover for the 6th book is out already...
And guess what, they change the model! I admit I like the previous model, but this one not bad either :)Her hair is down, and the cat finally make appearance *hello Van Helsing*

I love the stepback too...

Like always, we can't see ALL Bones's face, but no problem :P

The release date is August, 30th, so we just wait 3 months to read this. Good, I really hate waiting so long... Just ordered my copy! LOL!

The Night Huntress series is a big guilty pleasure of mine. I love the characters, the dialogue and each new challenge presented to Cat and Bones in every book. They are not deep stories and there is quite a large emphasis on romance and sex, rather than mysteries, but they're pleasurable and addictive... like chocolate. And they're also better than a great deal of the paranormal genre because Jeaniene Frost writes fantastic characters and banter between them.

It's more than just paranormal romance but less than your typical urban fantasy, it's what I will refer to as paranormal chick-lit because it has the same light-hearted, feel-good factor of the best chick lit novels but with an array of colourful and interesting supernatural creatures. And it is so funny. And sexy. All the characters have well-written personalities that lead to fantastic scenes that you can actually picture being real because Cat, Bones, Vlad, Spade, Ian and whoever else all have very distinct voices - and I love them all for different reasons.

I did miss Vlad in this installment but luckily it seems he's getting his own spin-off series soon, so major YAY! Basically, if you enjoyed the rest of the Night Huntress series, chances are you'll love this one too.

One Grave at a Time by Jeaniene Frost
Night Huntress series #6. Paranormal romance / urban fantasy. Best read in series order.
A witch hunter comes alive each All Hallows Eve and kills innocent women. Cat, with her ghost abilities still intact, hunts the killer down for a more permanent death this time. But alive, his skills and strength may be more than Cat and Bones can handle.

Haunting and compelling. Cat is definitely looking out for the underdog but there is always evil to contend with. Friends are the best supporters and many show up to help in this story.
It’s a great addition to the series with this a bit more of an urban fantasy feel.

Cat’s got her hands full in this one. As the Red Reaper, she’s been on death’s door plenty of times. But when a threat to all women arises, Cat can’t seem to keep her temper at bay. Vengeance must be served and Cat is more than willing to dish it out.

Kramer, a sick-minded ghost who has the ability to become flesh and bone on All Hollow’s Eve is on the rampage, willing to brutalize women he believes to be witches. In his human years, he has brutalized woman and burned them alive. Beyond death, he still poses a threat to woman as each year, on Halloween, his body becomes physical again. At this time, Kramer continues his sick ways, doling out death to those he doesn’t think deserves to live.

While One Grave at a Time was filled with blood and gore, it wasn’t my favourite of the Night Huntress series. I thought that the action really picked up towards the end of the book, but the beginning was a little lacklustre for me. It wasn’t uneventful. But it just wasn’t as engaging as some of Frost’s previous instalments in the series.

I missed the presence of Vlad and Mencheres. Both characters have become crucial members of the Night Huntress gang and I really missed reading about them. While Ian and Tyler get in some really great lines once in awhile, I still felt that something was missing a bit.

I know you’re wondering if there’s Chapter 32 3.0. There’s a nice scene that gets the heart racing, but it’s more heart than heat. I loved these moments between Bones and Cat. It’s these scenes that I wish I were Cat. Sex with Bones gives “Boning” a whole new meaning.

Overall, this book was still a solid instalment to the ever-growing series. I’m anxious to read the next one!

Favourite Quote:
Ian, ever tactful, had another form of hello.
“Christ, Reaper, with your bald head and all that soot, you look like a mannequin someone attacked with a blowtorch.”
“Ian, if I weren’t holding this sod, you’d be on the ground right now,” Bones gritted out.
“I’m not holding anyone,” Spade said, and whacked Ian hard enough to make him stagger.

I own every book Jeaniene Frost has written. I Love Cat and Bones. The first four books in the series are just plain old awesome. The last book (5) was just OK, it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. I think I rated it four stars, but more of 3.5. This latest book--One Grave at a Time, just wasn't that good. I'm sorry to say it, because I really love Ms. Frost, and I don't want to insult her hard work, but I owe it to my blog readers to put aside my personal feelings towards the author, and give my honest opinion about the book that was written.

For the rest of the review please visit Badass Book Reviews

I don't get this book at all. It was like an outline that needs to be filled in, but for some reason, went to print early without all the necessary parts.

Ian wasn't funny.

Bones wasn't sexy

Cat wasn't badass

Denise and Spade were there...but...not.

Justina didn't have any quips, although she does almost eat someone...I sensed a twilight moment there for a second.

This is going to hurt me to say this but......

This is the weakest book in this series.....WEAK WEAK WEAK!!!!!

Whewwwwww that hurt my heart to say that because every book in this series so far is KICK ASS!!!! Let me just say I only have ONE more book to complete this series so 6 out of 7 KICK ASS books is a great ratio!!!!

However will one book keep me away from finishing the MOST BADASS PNR/UF SERIES> I've ever read.......

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

So onward I march to last book!!!!!!

I'm hoping and praying that Frost has the strength to be one of the few authors out there who are able to carry her hero & heroine through to the end of their series while keeping them both alive and happily together as a couple. If any two characters ever deserved a HEA, its Cat and Bones. They are the best couple character ever written hands down. They are madly in love with no bull***t and no stupid love triangle (SO SO sick of authors writing 2 or more guys for their heroine to choose from). Frost has made herself stand out as an author by proving that (a)she doesn't need to frack with her character's relationship in order to sell or write a good book and (b) she doesn't need to leave her books on stupid cliffhanger endings to entice her readers to buy the next book - so long as she keeps Cat&Bones alive and together, I guarantee everyone will never be able to get enough of her books. Can't wait till August!

I have been looking forward to this book for ages, I am a HUGMONGOUS fan of this series, Cat and Bones are one of my favorite couples and well, you all know how I feel about Bones....*trails off into a day dream involving silk ties, whipped cream and big fangs* Anyway, so I was looking forward to this book, but for me it didn't quite reach 5 stars.

I think one of the main reasons this didn't reach 5 stars was because it felt like a novella that had been stretched as much as possible to try and reach a full length novel. There seemed to be tracts of time where not much seemed to be happening and so it lost its pacing and paired with a rather abrupt ending it left me feeling a bit "oh, is that it?" I kept expecting there to be more. But JF does seem to be building up another more complex story line involving Tate and the team, which I am hoping she will pick up again in the next book.

Mencheres and Vlad also weren't present in this book and as much as I love those two characters I didn't mind, this is a Night Huntress book so as long as Cat and Bones were in it I was happy. However, we did have Spade, Denise and Ian in this, so we saw a different set of secondary characters. I have to say I am looking forward to Ian's book I love his character he his so funny watching him wind up Cat and Justina were some of my favourite bits in the book.

Now, finally, Cat and Bones, they are a solid couple now so all the drama that we saw in the first books in this series has gone, so instead of this we get to see the deepening of their relationship instead, which although I did enjoy and was all "aww" about it, it isn't as exciting as when they first got together and you didn't know if they would stay together and Cat would over come her prejudice etc. But I still liked seeing them, I kind of feel that the series should come to end soon now that we knoe Cat and Bones are good, as much as I hate seeing a series I love end, I would rather it didn't do a Sookie Stakehouse and keep going till no one care anymore, leave us wanting more!

Being an avid reader of the first 5 books, it's evident that the series is sadly beginning to lose momentum. It seemed like the author was clutching at straws with the plot to create a completely out-of-the-blue arch enemy that you somehow fail to care about.

What I have loved in all of the previous books, even when Cat and Bones were fighting, was the strong emotions causing through the main character, the fast-paced action, the great side-characters, the witty remarks, and of course the passion and bond between our favourite vampire couple. It seemed that One Grave at a Time lacked the essential elements that tied the series together, and I just felt like it was a complete stand alone that had bland characters barely reminiscent of the ones from the series.

Firstly, the book was incredibly slow and the whole thing revolves around an evil poltergeist called Kramer. When you weren't reading about his terrifying threats and hauntings, you were reading about an annoying ass of a Centre leader Madigan. So what I felt here was a constant annoyance at whatever character that Frost has felt compelled to include that just gristled at me. Honestly, the previous books had done without the characters just there to make you annoyed and there is absolutely no reason that this one needed to include TWO of these characters.

Secondly, because the entire plot was so focused on this Kramer poltergeist that Cat is so fixated on, it barely left time for anything else. Very limited interaction between other characters actually felt like they were there as a cardboard cut out. Cat and Bones spent most of their time fixated on Kramer. And where the heck was Vlad? Definitely a slight disappointment.

Also the whole Cat and Mouse plot has been done so many times before and I don't mind it when it's done well, but when the finale is so anti-climactic you wish you could have done other things, like read all 5 previous books again. During the showdown, I actually felt all of those unpleasant emotions that I had from reading A Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, disturbing, wrong and just plain unpleasant.

All in all it's evident that I'm quite disappointed in this book, and hope that the last few books of the series will live up to the excellent standard that Frost has created for the first 5 books.

I bought it.
I started reading it.
I tried.

It was not bad.
I have seen most of it already.
I was in Cat's head.
Bones was sexy and cool.
They did some stuff.
There was a week little plot.

Then I just stopped.
I did not finish it.

Bones is Spike from Buffy,right?
Well, I loved Spike!
But if I google James Marsters I will realize yet again that his time is up. He aged.

He is no longer Spike.
Bones is no longer Bones.

He did not age. He just dulled.
I feel like I have been married to this character for so long, and I seem to think I am duty bound to love him.
I do not.
I am just used to him.
I am used to Cat.
I am used to it all, and there is no thrill.
And you know what?
I am still young enough to seek new thrills.

So I am breaking it off.
I am ending this.
There are to be two more books...but I will not buy them!
It will just get more painful.
Why prolong the inevitable?
The relationship between me an these books have ended.
It was time.
Sometimes in life breakups are for the best.

There are a lot of fans out there that are also tired, but still faithful.
Keep your money and keep your time.
The books have become only lukewarm.
The author does nothing to heat them up.
She is drained, it seems, and it is sad.
But we should all go to greener pastures.
Also sad, but true.

Engaging and fun, Cat and Bones' next-to-last book is a light read that still explores and deepens their smoldering relationship--something that I find very enduring.

In book #6, Cat and Bones help a ghost with her centuries old quest - to vanquish the rapist and killer, witch hunter Heinrich Kramer. By doing so, Cat attracts the unwanted attention of Madigan, the new head of her former Homeland Security special unit. Her uncle Don, who had found her and installed her in that rogue vampire unit, has the inside scoop on Madigan. But Don is as silent as the grave.
Family. If one member wasn’t being a pain in the ass, another one would be guaranteed to fill the slot.

This installment is not as funny as the preceding books. But the first half of the book had enough tension to hold my interest. Then the story began to drag and to feel a bit repetitive until the denouement. Clearly, Madigan is being set up as the next book's major villain.

Here are links to my reviews for the rest of the series -

I felt like this was a bit too repetitive from previous events at the beginning of the series, and I just wasn't immersed like I wanted to be. Cat and Bones didn't have anything interesting going on between them, which was fine. Still, now we have a new and more asshole version of Tate, and Cat's uncle is almost cast as a villain in his shady way of dealing with things after a lot of these issues had previously been worked out. As far as story order goes, this book should have been Book 4 or 5 instead, with the character development that occurred and is now missing with most of the characters except Bones.

It is still worth reading if you are a long-time series fan like I am. There are some good moments with ancillary characters, but the main bad guy in this book was mostly just annoying. New characters didn't bring much to the table to make me want to see them in future novels, and I am a huge lover of literature from the Salem Witch Trial period.

Stuck at 3 stars.

ONE GRAVE AT A TIME was everything and more after my slight disappointment with the last book. I think I didn't realize how much I actually missed Cat and Bones until I started reading this book and then my love came back blasting in at full speed. Cat and Bones are back again this time are trying to capture a bad guy who is already dead and the question that arises is how are you suppose to kill someone that is already dead.

ONE GRAVE AT A TIME is more filled with action then romance if you ask me, so if you're hoping for some sexy Cat and Bones time then you may be slightly disappointed. I wasn't because the story kept me turning the pages faster than ever. I was so into the story that I couldn't stop.

"Before we met, I'd fly for hours to clear my head," Bones said, his voice reaching me even over the rush of wind. "It was the closest I came to finding peace, but though several of my mates could fly, I always went alone. I never wanted to share this with anyone until you."

I just love the relationships in the Night Huntress Series so much. I think each and every character in this series has brought a smile upon my face one time or another. Even though there is not that much Cat and Bones sexy time, we still get a few tender moments between them that I loved. Also my heart broke for Spade and Denise for what they endured which makes me love their relationship even more and Ian? Oh, sweet sex-fulfilled Ian.

"You're shagging a woman who can turn into a dragon? Blast you, Charles, I am sick with envy!" "Not now." Spade muttered.

We have more Ian this time around and I have to tell you I love him. Every time he opened his mouth I couldn't help but put this huge wicked grin on my face.  He. is. HILARIOUS! I also have a new favorite character that is somewhat hot for all of our favorite master vamps. You will love this character that brings more humor and giggles to the book.

Was this my favorite Night Huntress book? No, but I loved it just as much as the other books. Pick up this book Night Huntress fans, you will love  ONE GRAVE AT A TIME and if you haven't picked them up yet then what the hell are you waiting for?

"“There were words for what he meant to me, but if I studied every language ever spoken for the next thousand years, I still wouldn’t find enough of them to describe it.”

Although the story was a little cheesier than normal, it was still fun in the halloween haunt type of way. Bones and Cat are still adjusting to Cat's strange powers and changes, when they suddenly have a new villain - a powerful ghost determined to kill 'witches' every Halloween to boost his own power. Cat and Bones can't help but battle the fight, especially when it becomes personal and Cat becomes a new target.

I'll admit I didn't like Cat much at first, but she's grown on me as she's softened. She's still the same hard-fighting, take no prisoners warrior, but she's not as sarcastically vicious and the boulder on her shoulder has been chipped away. Bones is just fun and gorgeous, no complaints that department.

The series always shown with the side characters, with this one no exception. Sadly we get no Vlad for a change, and he was missed, but we finally get lots of Ian, who is awesome. Tyler is a fun new character to introduce, probably a one-book deal. Fans get Denise and Slade as well.

As always there's some humor and it works to lighten the load of a dark and gritty series. The villain is particularly vicious as he enjoys torturing his victims and burning them to death (the bastard), so there is no lightness with what they're fighting against. The end battle is multi-layered and broken into bits - even Cat doesn't escape unscathed.

I like how the author is continuing the ghost angle instead of hopping immediately into other foes - ghosts are underutilized paranormals in this type of series. There's a few new twists with the old team and plenty left to discover as the series continues.

Lots of interesting twist, great character interaction and all around enjoyable read. Loved that some of the characters from other books reappeared and missed some others that didn't make a showing.

Aaaaaah *smells the book* the sweet smell of one of my favorite drugs. I’m addicted to this series. And I have a major crush on Bones. There I said it! So imagine how excited I was about this. Hell I was counting down the days until it got released. *sigh* I kind of regret it now.

The score I’m going to give it will be a bit cruel. I really wanted to give it a perfect one but I can’t. It doesn’t compare to the previous ones. *prays* Please don’t ruin another series for me! I’ve already had a couple of them ruined this year.

I was wondering if Jeaniene Frost will manage to write a book that will kick ass even so deep into the Night Huntress series. Well, how to answer that… This book kicks ass story-wise (even if it’s a bit forced) but character-wise it doesn’t.

The story was spooky and pretty awesome. The villain, Kramer, was a very good creation. Cruel and sadistic, he managed to get me angry a lot. Hell, that’s a good thing. Madigan was also a b*tch and I’m sure we’ll get more of him in the next books. I can’t help hating his guts. Ugh he was annoying.

I love Cat and Bones. They’re the best book couple in my opinion; they make such a great team. But I felt that in One Grave at a Time they were strange. Cat was ok, I didn’t mind her much, but Bones was in a really strange mood. They lacked that “heat” that made them such a great couple. It seemed like they were old people being married for 20 years or something. They seemed so used to each other that everything they do together gets synchronized perfectly. That’s not a bad thing; I actually admire this in people. But in a book? Meh. A bit more “spice” please!

Ian was awesome! It was a delight seeing him make an appearance. Fingers crossed for a book dedicated to him.

I missed Vlad though. I can’t wait to get my hands on his book.

Top 5 quotes
#5 “Blah blah blah, I’m a slutty witch, and the fires of hell await me, blah. You really need some new material. My mother can curse me out better than that.”

#4 “Bugger me blind and bowlegged!”

#3 Ian appeared to have recovered from his surprise. He gave Spade an almost accusatory look. “You’re shagging a woman who can turn into a dragon? Blast you, Charles, I am sick with envy!”

#2 “Your mum pounced on her and started sucking away. Would’ve been arousing if not for all the screaming.” “Ian,” Bones drew out warningly. He grinned. “You’re right. I was aroused anyway.”

#1 “I’ve watched you barely escape death several times, and each instance killed me a little inside. They may be dormant now, but we have enemies both cunning and cruel. Knowing you possess the power to defeat most of them doesn’t threaten me, luv. It relieves me to my very core.”

I had such a good time with this book. I first read this book almost 7 years ago and was pretty eager to revisit it. I didn't remember a lot of the details from this book so it almost felt like I was reading for the first time. I thought that this was a really fun installment in the series even if it wasn't one of my favorites. It was really great to spend a few hours with some of my favorite vampires.

This book picks up shortly after the events in the previous books. Of course, things will not stay calm for long for Cat and Bones. Cat learns through her ghostly friends that there is a very powerful ghost that is able to commit the same crimes he did during his life but only on Halloween night. They must work to protect his targets as he proves just how strong he really is.

My favorite thing about these books is the characters. It was great to spend time with Cat and Bones and I love the way they both continue to grow in every book. Their relationship is very strong and it is a lot of fun to watch them interact with each other. I do really enjoy the bigger cast of characters as well and it was great to see Spade, Denise, and Ian playing an important role in this book. I, of course, would have liked to see Vlad make an appearance but I guess I will just have to read his spin-off series to get more of him.

Tavia Gilbert does a phenomenal job with this series. She has been consistent with the character voices from the very beginning so everything just seems to flow easily. I think that she adds a lot to the story and is able to make everything more exciting at times. She has a very pleasant voice and reads the story at a perfect pace. Her narration only added to my enjoyment of this wonderful story.

I would recommend this book to others. This is a series that really does need to be read in order to be fully appreciated since many of the events and character relationships have been developing throughout the series. This was a fast-paced and exciting addition to a much-loved series. I cannot wait to continue my re-read of this series.

Initial Thoughts
This was fun! Not my favorite book in the series but still quite enjoyable. I didn't remember too many details in the story from the first time I read it almost 7 years ago so it was almost like reading it for the first time. The characters are great, there was plenty of intense action, and the narrator did a phenomenal job.

I don't listen to many audiobooks, but I love this series on audio. Great narration.
