I liked that these recipes were all fairly simple and low-fuss, making them good options for weeknight dinners.

Not a bad book. I think there's probably a dozen recipes I'd like to try in this one. And a couple that are in here that I had previously run across. The lemon buttermilk sweet potato salad is yummy!

There are several soup recipes I'd like to try, especially some of the lentil ones.

This book had a lot of easy to get, common ingredients and recipes I think most families would get use from. Nothing fancy or spectacular, but good solid food. And plenty of options on where to add meat if you have meat eaters, or just want meat. Many of the recipes seemed convertible back to meat.

I thought having a desert section was a bit wierd. Most deserts are vegetarian. How many people do you know who eat a hamburger for desert? there were several vegan deserts as well, which makes more sense, because not all deserts are vegan. And they looked good, too.

I'm not a vegetarian, and don't really plan on becoming one, but am trying to expand my meatless meal options. This book had a nice selection.

Overall, this collection of recipes has a little too many overlaps. A lot of pizzas, and curries show up in 2 different sections--not that I don't like curries, but it felt like things were sectioned off arbitrarily.

HOWEVER, the dessert section looks just fabulous. I made the Blueberry-Spice Whoopie Pies, which are like gobs with gingerbread cakes and a cream cheese, blueberry, and marshmallow creme filling. They are delicious and not too sweet. There's a fair amount of vegan baking, which is nice.

AND their falafel recipe is. so. good. Better than my previous go-to falafel recipe in that it actually holds together when cooked and doesn't require a cooling period in the fridge. So, five stars for those things.

If you're transitioning from an omnivorous diet to a vegetarian one, or if you'd just like to cut back on your intake of meat, this cookbook has a lot of great recipes and ideas for you. But, I wasn't wild about it for myself and my family.

I might've liked it more if I'd read it before I checked out Simple Vegan!: Delicious Meat-Free, Dairy-Free Recipes Every Family Will Love (Good Housekeeping). For my taste, too many of the recipes relied on dairy - and too much dairy for me and my family. And, when I considered the recipes that weren't chock full of dairy, I realized that most of those were also to be found in Simple Vegan!: Delicious Meat-Free, Dairy-Free Recipes Every Family Will Love, also by Good Housekeeping.

This has some good staple recipes but generally they seem on the bland side. I also felt the whole book could use better editing, and then I noticed it’s a compilation of Better Housekeeping recipes… That checks out for me because I’ve never cared for their recipes or their publications. One more slightly annoying aspect of this book: there are a few images of the meals but not enough. For a magazine publication, they should have had images for everything or nothing. I’d say this would be an okay book for the novice cook to start with, but I wouldn’t use it myself and I wouldn’t recommend it to confident home cooks.

Broccoli-Cheese Polenta Pizza? Yes, please. Also worth noting for fall/winter: Butternut Squash & Black Bean Chili, Acorn Squash & White Beans & Sage.

The flexitarian chapter would be of interest to anyone trying to cook for a meat eater and a vegetarian at the same time.

Update: Somehow I got this one again and totally didn't notice! I picked out a ton more recipes, including Syrupy Banana-Nut Overnight French Toast.

A solid "A-" cookbook. We're not a strictly vegetarian family, but we do try to "eat vegetarian" at least four times a week -- and this cookbook has been a great way to expand the options. One of the other things that I enjoy about this cookbook is that it clearly marks vegan meals while also embracing "flexitarianism" and offering ways of adapting certain meals to include a little meat if you'd prefer to do so.

There are some good recipes in here, but some that are a little much for my vegetarian daughter. I did like how they had ways to incorporate the vegetarian meals in with the regular ones. Flexitarian.

Good general compendium for anyone trying to build more vegetarian options into their meal plans. Clear instructions, beautiful illustrations, and simple, easy to find ingredients. Loved the dessert section, although that seemed like an area that already belonged to the vegetarian universe.

There are several delicious recipes and the layout is nice. I thought the best part of the book was the "flexitarian" section at the end for mixed households.

Mmmm. I liked the section in the back about making dishes that work for vegetarians and then adding meat for others in the family.
