Fallen angels… They rule Moscow’s seedy underworld, promising untold pleasure to the females who dare to mate them. That promise – and Brends Duranov’s own raw sexual power – has hopefuls mobbing the velvet rope outside his elite club G2’s.
But Mischka Baran has no intention of hooking up with one of the Fallen. Not even after Brends gives her an unforgettable taste of the sin and seduction he can deliver with those wicked lips. She’s after information, not a stint as some Goblin’s toy of the month. What she doesn’t know is that with a sadistic killer carving up his brethren, Brends is playing for keeps, hunting the one woman whose bloodline can end the mayhem, whose bond can restore his lost wings.
Anne Marsh is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of paranormal and humorous small town contemporary romance. She and her herd of rescue cats live in rural North Carolina full of neighbors who will pull you out of a ditch, bring you a truck of mulch, or fix your car just because they can. Who said heroes don’t exist in real life?
Goblins? How sexy are they? That seemed to be the only original idea in this book, and not one that really appealed to me. It seemed that all the other paranormal creatures had already been used up?
The story felt like a diluted version of JR Ward's Fallen Angel series, but without the fun male banter and one liners. "Shitkickers" and "For fuck's sake" are truly JR Ward's signature phrases, but were used frequently in the story. The overuse of the word "hell" at the beginning of every other sentence or the begining of every curse, lost it's emphasis pretty quickly. Editing is a problem as well.
The majority of my reading list are paranormal romances, and I guess I'm just disappointed that there wasn't anything new/different introduced in the storyline between the main characters to make this one stand out. Like most of them, the story goes like this: They are attracted to each other at first sight, they spend most of the story trying to deny their feelings, then comes the much anticipated Sex, and of course "MINE! MINE! MINE!", a fight breaks out with the enemy, the hero conquers all, they confess their love and live happily ever after. If you're looking for looking for something more, it's not found here.
My first ever Anne Marsh read. A solid 3.5 stars. Read this in the anthology, Seven Sinful Stories: The Second Collection. As anyone knows, anthologies can be a mixed bag of nuts, so I was nicely surprised with Bond With Me. Of course I read through many of the review comments in Goodreads to get a feel for this author's writing. I totally get some of the criticisms now, but those things didn't detract too much from my overall enjoyment of this new world. My rating reflects those distractions. And I liked the mish-mash of genres, a little bit post-apocalyptic nuclear dystopia...a little bit heavenly intervention LOL. It worked for me. And the writing style and plot arc, while I agree could be choppy at times, held my interest. In the end for me the romance was believable. I found the connection between Brends and Marishka, and maybe more so the secondary bonding between Dathan and Pell, satisfying enough to continue to Zer's story in book two.
This book is what I like to call a "kitchen sink" story, where there's everything but the kitchen sink. Brends Duranov is a Fallen angel, which makes him a Goblin, which means he trades favors for souls. If he doesn't, then the Thirst drives him crazy until he murders women or turns into the Goblin beast thing, which basically is a big rapey hulk with long fingernails. When his kind bonds with a woman, they feed off of their emotions and soul...until the soul is gone? That part was never really made clear. Some women are soul mates, which is rare and special, and if one of the Fallen/Goblins bonds with one—by screwing her in front of witnesses and biting her—then they get their wings back. They can go back to Heaven if they want, and start to feel the pretty emotions again. But I don't know what happens to the Goblin bits. Do they stop being Goblins?
So, we're looking at angels, vampires, shifters, goblins, and incubi. All in one horny asshole who wields a sword, hunts down Rogue Fallen when he isn't hanging out at the nightclub and taking advantage of desperate women. With all that going on, it's no surprise that the story made almost no sense. In maybe three days, Mischka the Repressed falls in love with Brends the Bully, who gets his wings and feelings back just in time to save the day and live happily ever after. Except that Heaven may be broken, and the Angels up there might be murderers.
Also, Brends natters on and on about being dominant and kinky and too hot to handle, but he wasn't. The steamy scenes were full of arching backs and neck kissing and descriptions of lingerie, but not much else.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book, although there were some scenes that I thought were much better than others. I wish this book was four different books, and that the central characters weren't so all-over-the-place. On a sentence level, I think the book is not outstanding but not distractingly bad either. My problems with this one were with the storyline and characters.
~* 3.5 Stars *~ A Dark and Edgy Read They were set up. Since creation, the Dominion served as faithful warrior angels defending the throne, but that loyalty earned them little when the archangel Michael accused them of heinous crimes and banished them from the heavens. Stripped of their wings and souls, robbed of their emotions, they fell. Cursed by Michael's fury, they became Goblins - half man, half beast - dependent on the souls of humanity for sustenance. They were promised a chance at redemption. They were promised the hope of soul mates and reemergence into heaven. They were promised...everything.
In the three thousand years since, that promise has gone unfulfilled. And the Fallen have long since stopped believing in anything they were promised.
Brends Duranov had a bone to pick with Michael about that, among other, darker things. The Goblin didn't have much faith in getting the opportunity to do so any time soon, though. Instead he focused on more pressing matters as he stalked through his M City club, his attention diverted from the throng of humans pressing to get in and make their dark deal with a devil they couldn't possibly comprehend. With no thought of compassion, he spared their pathetic lives as he hunted the one bright soul who had been staking out his club for the past three nights. She is the only one he wanted, and he could ignore the hunger of the beast inside him until he had her right where he wanted her. Beneath him and at his mercy.
Good girl Mischka Baran wouldn't be in M City's Goblin club G2 if she didn't have a very compelling reason. She knows what the Goblins are, is well aware of the danger in their sought-after embrace. If her cousin wasn't missing, she wouldn't be anywhere near the oppressive weight of throbbing music, desperation, and forbidden hunger that permeated the place. But her cousin is missing. And Mischka had long ago assumed responsibility for the younger, impetuous girl. So she tries to be fearless as she beards these particular lions in their dens.
She just hadn't anticipated the visceral force of one particular and obviously very fierce lion.
Mischka doesn't trust Brends, but he is the only one who can help her. And stumbling over a dead body behind his club as she searches for him just intensifies her need and shortens her timeline. The victim is a human woman. The murderer obviously...isn't. And this dead girl isn't the first to fall victim to such a creature, either. If her cousin is alive, Mischka needs to find her fast. If she isn't, she will need Brends to have any hope of retribution. Only a Goblin has a chance of stopping one of his own kind.
But when the sadistic serial killer terrorizing M City turns his attention towards her, she knows that to survive, she's going to have to do whatever Brends asks her to do. No matter how dangerous it is to her soul...and her heart.

Decadent and dark, Marsh goes for the hard hit in this intense series debut. Though fallen angels have become overly proliferated in paranormal romance and urban fantasy of late, and they're definitely not one of my favorite supernatural creatures, I enjoyed the world and mythos created here. There's just enough spin to make fresh and seductively deadly what has quickly become overused and tired.
That's not to say I didn't have some problems with the book. The futuristic setting was wonderfully gritty and the plot was compelling, but I was perplexed at times by the information provided about what Goblins do to the humans they bond with, their feeding needs, and what results from that feeding. That information seemed to contradict itself in several places.
At times the reader is told that bonding with a Goblin results in nothing but death or madness for a human, at other times, it seems the bonding is contracted within a certain time limit that would be easily survivable. I was never sure if Goblins often bond with humans for short periods so they can feed without risking the Change or if every bonding results in madness or death for the human. Those conflicts and the confusion they created made it hard to fully immerse myself in the story as I was reading.
I also found the narrative to be jerky and inconsistent in places. The frequent shifts in the perspective of the point of view were sometimes difficult to follow. It wasn't always clear to me what was going on when and how it all related to the overall plot. The character definition was also a little sketchy and seemed a bit contrary, and character emotions seemed to vacillate wildly in very short periods of time. Mischka is introduced to the story as a good girl looking out for her cousin, but later her character has suddenly always wanted to be a little bad and feels constrained by expectations. Little Miss Perfect becomes a bit more Girls Gone Wild. The transition didn't quite feel natural or organic to the evolution of her character.
More appealing and more consistent was the sheer otherness of Brends and his emotionless ability to manipulate without conscience. He was sinfully sexy, but he was also very dark and self-interested for a good portion of the book. That may not breed a lot of sympathy for him as the male lead, but he was definitely intriguing. I enjoyed finding out more of his backstory and getting a glimpse of his past.
Unfortunately, there's so much going on in the plot and page time given to fleshing out of the world, that neither the primary romance arc between Mischka and Brends or the secondary one with Pell and Dathan were completely satisfying for me. The evolution of both seemed just as jerky and lacking in cohesion as parts of the narrative and I wasn't convinced of the depth of emotion portrayed at the end. That's not to say that both couples don't have a fantastically edgy and intense sexuality, because - woah - they so do. The sex in this book was hot. Full stop. Some of the physical scenes definitely pushed the envelope, and I could easily imagine the inherent sexuality of the Goblins taking an even darker, erotic turn in the future.
The strength of this book for me lies in the world and the history of the Goblins. The reality of their existence is pretty horrific, all things considered, and it does breed a level of sympathy despite their very alien natures. I loved the long term plans of the Big Bad and finding out how much of his insidious malignancy has been spread through the heavens and on earth. Talk about playing the long game. This is one seriously bad Big Bad. And his primary weapon was nothing to sneeze at, either.
Though the book wasn't perfect for me, and I wasn't totally on board with the main characters' journey through the story, or with the verisimilitude of their romance, I got quickly addicted to the Goblins plight and would love to see how this world expands. If the execution of the narrative gets a little more streamlined and isn't quite so contradictory or confusing, this could be a truly excellent, dark fantasy/paranormal romance series. The potential is definitely there.

Mischka Baran has come to G2, a well known club frequented by the Fallen. She has no desire to bond with the Fallen like so many of the women who have flocked to the club. Mischka is searching for information that will lead her to her run away cousin. Club owner Brends Duranov has his sights set on Mischka. His instincts call to bond with her and he knows from the start it's more than just a sexual need but whatever it is, it will have to wait. There is a killer on the loose who is targeting both Brends brethren and human females and the killer has sights set on Mischka.
Mischka is a good girl. She doesn't break the rules and she doesn't bond with the Fallen. At times she comes off as being a bit too uptight and has some what of a holier than thou attitude towards the paranormal that started to bug me. I respected the fact that she really loves her family and only wants her cousin to be safe but her character didn't become likable until Brends started to get under her skin. He brought out the naughty side in her and got her to lower her defenses and we see what a caring and passionate person she really is. Brends tries to convince himself it's just lust he feels for Mischka but he knows from the beginning its more than that. He has felt nothing but hate towards the archangel Michael ever since he tossed he and his fellow Dominions out of heaven. Brends has spent the last three thousand years feeding his anger and waiting for the day he can have his vengeance. Mischka is a surprise to him and he isn't sure of what to do with her or the feelings he has towards her at first. As the book progresses they change each other and open their minds and hearts. Brends is very much an alpha male (you know, tall well built handsome and arrogant) and I absolutely loved him.
Mischka's cousin Pell felt like the type that did wild things just to be able to brag that she did it. I never care for those kinds of characters but she got a little more bearable when the Fallen she bonded with took charge and brought her out of her shallow shell. Eilor was a truly vile character that if you were to pass him on the street, he would make your skin crawl. Brends' sire Zer is a character I'd like to learn more about. We get brief scenes with him but he came off as the business all the time type and I'd like to see if there are other sides to him.
Bond With Me is set in the future where everyone knows about the Fallen. The Fallen where kicked out of heaven over 3 thousand years ago (you'll have to read the book to find out why) and they are no longer the angels they once were. They have the dark handsome exterior but when they lose control they turn into ferocious Goblins. When a Fallen bonds with a human, the human gets to negotiate one favor and in return they become sexual partners and feed their soul and emotions to the Fallen. Humans are aware of what's happening but who can resist getting any wish they wanted granted and mind blowing sex? I liked the unique take that Anne Marsh did with her Fallen angels. They are wonderfully wicked creatures who are capable of seducing the pants off you one minute and scaring you half to death the next.
When I read the blurb for Bond With Me I was a little worried that the story would be heavy on smut and lacking on actual story. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a story that hooked me in and kept me entertained and yes, a good supply of smutty scenes that left you considering what you might bargain for if a Fallen approached you. The history of the Fallen and the reason behind the recent killings of both human females and Fallen interested me and has me hopping this is just the beginning of a series.
Bond With Me by Anne Marsh Paranormal Romance- Aug 24, 2010 4 ½ stars
They are the Fallen. Angels that rebelled in Heaven and as punishment were made Goblins. Half human and half beast. As Goblins they still have supernatural powers but they are deadly. When they loose control their animalistic side breaks free. Goblins are also cursed to feed upon humans’ souls. Their only hope is to find a soul mate and return to Heaven but a sinister force doesn’t want them to find one…..
Brends is a Goblin and owner or the popular and seedy club G2. He needs to feed but has refused to bond. In bonding he can feed off a human’s soul. This touch of humanity is the only way to keep their beast half from overcoming them. But bonding will eventually drain the donor until they are dead or insane. Brends is waiting. He has his eye on a certain female who has been hanging around his club. And what Brends wants, he always gets.
However his pursuit is muddled by the rash of female murders that could only be caused by a rogue brother. And even worse Goblins themselves are being murdered. Brends knows it is his duty to uncover the truth. But when he discovers that the rogue is stalking Mischka his protective instincts flare and thing become personal
Mischka Baran is on a mission of her to find her missing cousin, Pell. Responsible and a do gooder, family is everything to her. While tracking her cousin she finds herself at the popular and distasteful G2 club. A club where her wilder cousin often hangs out. Determined to find Pell and aid her Mischka finds herself confronted the magnetic and sexy Brends. Dark and enigmatic he attracts her but she wants no part of him. Unfortunately, he wants her and vows to help her find her cousin if she bonds with him. But the cautious and serious Mischka doesn’t want him no matter what her traitorous body tells her….
For the bond is not particularity romantic or long lasting, it is like a risky drug. Does Mischka dare?
Dark and dangerous are the first 2 words that come to my mind when I read this book. Brends is the ultimate bad boy and makes no apologies for his nature or behavior. In contrast, Mischka is kind and innocent. But she is what he unknowingly craves. His very aggressive and arrogant personality makes him want to stake a claim on Mischka. But Mischka is not so easily cowed by him and I loved it when she was able to get the upper hand on him! I enjoyed how Mischka is able to comfort his troubled soul and make him more human. But what I really liked about this book was the secondary storyline about Mischka’s cousin Pell and her relationship with another Goblin named Dathan. He is extremely charming and persuasive. They really seemed to have a history and I could feel the genuine affection they had for each other.
Strong writing and compelling characters in this sexually charged story make for a surprisingly erotic and exciting read. The Goblins with their need for emotion and humanity reminded me a bit of Christine Feehan’s Carpathian/Dark series heroes. I also found the dangerous serial killer and the plot behind the murders very gripping and sinister.
This was an ambitious and thrilling paranormal which was easy to read. The ending was especially explosive. I really liked the idea of sexy fallen angels and hope to see more for them soon.

I'm giving this one 4.5 stars. Totally unique world building and all centered on Moscow, with the Fallen Angels (Goblins) looking very much like the Russian Mafiaso.
Following a bloody revolt in Heaven several thousand Dominion Angels are expelled, have their wings removed by Archangel Michael and fall to Earth. They are promised if they find their soul mates and learn to love that they may return. Three thousand years later not one of them has found their soul mate and no one believes that promise.
Mischka Baran goes to the Club run by Brends Duranov, looking for her cousin Pell who had a fight with her parents and ran off claiming she was going to Bond with an angel. Goblins don't do anything for free, they negoiate and offer anything a woman wants as long as she Bonds with them and they can drink from her Soul. That was another thing that Michael ripped from them - their souls. The longer they go without drinking from a soul the thirstier they get and some go mad and need to be locked up in preserves.
Whilst there were some character inconsistencies in the h towards the end of the book, overall it was quite well done and there was plenty of hot action. And of course there was a rogue angel to overcome so there was plenty of sword action as well.
A very interesting and sexy take on fallen angels. The concept of bonding is also a bit unique so I feel like this series provides a new story despite having somewhat typical characters. Brends is very much an Alpha male and I didn't find him all that attractive at first. It took me a bit to stop reading his name as "Brenda" and finally warm up to him. Mischka had some moments where she came across strongly but for the most part she didn't wow me. Truthfully, I found Dathan and Pell's romance much more compelling and would like to have seen more of their friendship before and then when they were hiding out as a bonded pair. They had a multi-year relationship before they bonded so they struck me as a more believable romance.
I think the strongest part of the book is the mythology of the Fallen, where they came from, who plotted against them and their return to Heaven. My only serious complaint and the reason I didn't rate the book higher is I didn't always find the explanation of that mythology very smooth. It jumped around a lot and wasn't as coherent as I'd like it to be. There's quite a bit of explanation in this first book and sometimes it took over the story. That being said, I definitely finished the book curious about the next one and immediately looked up the release date so I could add it to my calendar.
For my first experience into the world of the Fallen, Bond With Me was a whim in which I'm glad I choose. Michael has casted out angels and tore from them their wings. Now they are only known as Goblins - beings that humans should stay clear of. Their only hope of returning to the Heavens is to bond with a soul mate. The only problem: someone or something is killing female human souls-the exact souls that are meant to be bonded to the Fallen. Brends and his brothers are out to find answers before their soul mates are taken from them.
At times the storyline and character development is a little slow, but nothing that a few pages of erotica can't fix. All I can say is that you will not want to read this in a room full of people when a bonding scene takes place. ;)
I really liked this a lot. Very Anne Rice meets Nalini Singh. A group of angels had been cast out of heaven with their wings removed and a beast inside of them that feeds on souls. The only chance at redemption is to find their soulmate and bond. Brends can't get Miscka out of his head. She hates anything paranormal but had a cousin missing that she thinks is with one of the fallen. Meanwhile a rogue fallen is killing random women and Mischka and her cousin are on the list. Brends convinces Mischka to bond with him and he'll keep her safe and return her cousin. Brends falls hard for Mischka and is determined to break through her icy demeanor and make her break her rules. Is Mischka his soulmate and can they stop the killer before he gets her and her cousin.
Writing this review makes me a bit sad. I think this book had a lot of potential and a fresh storyline.
The book simply didn't hook me in. I started reading and then stopped. Some time later I started from the beginning again and was able to keep going. I liked the story about the Fallen, but I had a hard time liking the main characters.
Mischka and Brends were ok, but it seemed to me that she was really quick to change her feelings and develop this deep love for him. I think Dathan and Pell's relationship was more believable because they had been friends awhile, and I would have enjoyed reading more about their story.
I'll check out the second book though. I'm interested in what will happen to all the Fallen.
This one was a big disappointment for me. The mythology of the fallen could have been interesting but I felt that it wasn't fleshed out very well. The action, actually just the writing in general, felt disjointed and it was not a very smooth reading experience. I had hopes for the inner strength of the heroine but said strength wasn't consistent and the relationship as a whole was pretty underdeveloped and unbelievable. I never felt any actual emotion developing, just the standard lust. I actually found the side romance more interesting than the main one and wished we would have seen more of it.
An observation by no means complaint, different writing style? A little disjointed things happen and you have to go back and read to see if you missed something even in the sex scenes. I must say I'm not all about those scenes but when in one position and things happening that don't make sense kinda messes up flow of story......but I shall continue. Still reading bit more observations what's with the repeated reference with skin being dark and/or darkening, don't get it. And you haven't come to terms with the man but your sexing the beast...... In end got harder to read but did finish.
WoW! WoW! I bought this book on a whim, as it was free on the Nook. Read half the book at night and finish it today, couldn't put it down!!!
The story is about Fallen Angels, in which Brends is a smoking hot angel just looking to taste the flavor. Mischka is looking for her family member that she believes made a grave mistake.
As the story unfolds, we learn how the angels were cast out of the heavens, we learned there is a killer on the loose and we learn just how seductive these angels can be.
Adult tones, love, and choices.
I would read this book over and over again, I LOVED it!!!!!!!!
I just couldn't get into this book at all! I did finish it hoping it might get better....and it didn't. I didn't like the author's writing style at all, it was difficult to follow at times and the story just fell flat for me. Most of the story was about sex, thinking about sex, someone else watching them have sex or dreaming about sex. Now come on...some sex in a story is good, but not when there is not a good story plot to go with it. Even the sex scenes fell flat for me. I will definitely not be reading the rest of the series.
I liked the idea of this book, but I had trouble following the story at times. There was great sexual tension, but then the love scenes fell totally flat for me! I really liked the world the author created, though I still have a few question about how this bond thing works. There is definitely potential for a series and I would like to see where it goes!
"Bond With Me" by Anne Marsh was a good book :) It could have been better, but ill give the book 3 to 3,5 stars.. I can't decide.. :P It was to many pov's for me. If it had only been Brends and Mischka's pov the book would have been so much better! The story was good, and i did like the characters. The book was worth the time and who doesn't like reading about angels/fallen angels?! :D
The year is 2090 and after the devastation of the human wars left them subdued and vulnerable, the paranormals of the world emerged from their hiding places. Now, where the city of Moscow once stood, M City reigns and is controlled by the most powerful of paranormals: the Goblins. Once glorious angels, the Goblins were cast from the heavens by the Archangel Michael, their wings stripped, their golden beauty darkened and in the absence of their once glowing souls, they were paired with a soul sucking beast whose hunger knows no bounds. Brends Duranov is one such Fallen. G2 club owner, the enigmatic Brends holds court over the female humans who greedily offer up their souls for his all consuming pleasure. But only one woman snares his complete attention and her resistance only fuels the flames of his desire.
Mischka Baran is searching for her wild cousin Pellinor. Fearing that she made good on her threat to bond with one of the Fallen, Mischka will do whatever it takes to find Pell and convince her to come home. As far as Mischka's concerned, nothing is worth selling your soul for, especially to one of the detested paranormals. When her search leads her to G2 and Brends, Mischka's faced with the first man to ever shake up her temper and her hormones to mind numbing heights. He drives her crazy with his relentless pursuit and when he dangles his ability to locate her cousin as bait to the bond he desires, Mischka is determined to resist. That is until it's soon apparent that a blood thirsty, sociopathic rogue is after her and Pellinor. When a Goblin's beast overcomes its Fallen half, he goes rogue, hunting the streets for souls and blood. To be a target of a rogue's hunt can only lead to death without the right protection and the threat is severe enough to have Mischka reluctantly succumbing to Brends's bond.
Determined to bring down the rogue that's terrorizing his streets, picking off women and even one of his own Fallen brothers, Brends will do anything and use anyone to meet his goal. When it becomes obvious that his rogue is after Mischka and her cousin, he sees the chance to bait his trap. Knowing where Pellinor is, he offers Mischka the favor of taking her to her cousin in exchange for her becoming his bond mate. Bonding with Mischka allows Brends to feed off her soul while he grants her the endless pleasure she desires. Once the bond is witnessed and the swirling tattoos arise along the flesh of their wrists and forearms, Brends can bury deep within Mischka's mind, see into her soul and siphone off the richness of her emotions but most importantly he can keep her safe as she's to be the lure for his rogue. The only thing that Brends didn't prepare himself for is Mischka's tenacity, her need to control the situation as well as those around her including him. Her commands and snooty good girl behavior amuse Brends to no end and soon he's concentrating on turning her hot temper to boiling and breaking free the naughty girl deep within that craves release instead of focusing on the hunt. Unlike any bond mate he's ever had, Brends tries to resist Mischka's allure, but the harder he tries to ignore the affect she has, the more he finds himself relenting to her pull and the fact that he can't nor will he ever let Mischka go.
The Heroine:
Horrified by the injustices in the world, Mischka's determined to help and do what it takes to stop the rogue that's after her and her cousin. Knowing she's bait doesn't necessarily give her much cause for concern for Mischka will sacrifice herself first before she'd let anything bad happen to her cousin.
Having always been jealous of her cousin's wicked and wild ways, Mischka resents her need to always be the good girl, always steadfast and reliable, but with Brends driving her to distraction the naughty girl she's always wanted to be finally breaks free. Brends, while infuriating, strips Mischka free of her constricting good girl shields and in his arms, she doesn't have to worry about always doing what's right but instead she can do what brings her the most pleasure and that's Brends himself. When Brends releases her of the bond he ultimately manipulated her into, it doesn't take Mischka long to come to the conclusion that their bond was the best thing to ever happen to her.
The Hero:
Dark, mysterious, and practically leaking sensuality like a sieve, Brends has women all over falling at his feet, helpless in their desire. Sadly for them, Brends could care less. Mischka, at first just a means to an end, soon becomes the sole mantra of his thoughts. Her wants, her desires, and above all her safety become paramount to everything else. She changes his life in that for the first time in his three thousand years on Earth, Brends acts selflessly.
My Final Thoughts:
A tantalizing read, BOND WITH ME was good from beginning to end, however, the world building felt a bit unpolished with areas lacking information that I would loved to have understood. Then again, those areas can easily be explained in future books which has me looking forward to the continuation of the series.
However, there is one aspect of BOND WITH ME that I thought perhaps could have been completely left out of the book and that's Pellinor's bonding with another Fallen. In some respects it drew focus away from the main protagonists because their romance happens so early on an so erotically that at the time, I was craving more of them rather than Brends and Mischka. Also, while the affects of Pell's bonding are wonderfully shocking, it unfortunately made made the affects of Brends and Mischka's bonding a forgone conclusion and I hate knowing what's to come in my reads.
All in all, I enjoyed Brends and Mischka especially their first few meetings. The dialogue between the two is positively smoldering allowing brilliant sexual tension that made the rest of their relationship burn up the pages. While the resolution with regards to Brends's past isn't nearly cleared up, his bond with Mischka is cemented giving readers their coveted HEA.
Dark, gritty, and sinfully erotic, BOND WITH ME has the all the makings of a great paranormal series. And for fans of fallen angels, this is not a read that should be missed.
So the fallen angels, the secret bloodlines the whole thing was actually pretty interesting...and i wanted to like it. But the sex scenes were honestly just weird. Like really weird, I couldn't tell if they were actually consensual, but they were supposed to be sexy, but rape isn't sexy. After like the third one it was just so uncomfortable that I stopped reading.
“Fallen angels… They rule Moscow’s seedy underworld, promising untold pleasure to the females who dare to mate them.
What she doesn’t know is that with a sadistic killer carving up his brethren, Brends is playing for keeps, hunting the one woman whose bloodline can end the mayhem, whose bond can restore his lost wings.”
So basically the Dominions the Heavens first line of defense are set up to take the fall for some misdeed and Archangel Michael casts them from Heaven but allows them a way to redeem themselves by finding their soul mate and loving them more than life itself. After 3000 years later not one Dominion has found their soul mate. These once angels now call themselves the Fallen.
The Fallen have their other half what is called a Goblin, it is this half that is the Fallen’s punishment for crimes not committed. To survive the Fallen must Bond with a human to feed off of their emotions. In turn, the Goblin half will grant one wish to the human and the man half provides pleasure beyond belief.
Review:
I’m going to start this review by saying this is an intriguing concept. Fallen Angels are not new, but to have them as incubi of sorts is a bit different. Brends is one of the more powerful of the Fallen, a warrior of old. Now he is basically the head of the M-Towns supernatural and the Fallens warriors. Now he has a rogue on his hands, a Fallen that is killing human woman as well as his brother warriors. Mischka Baran doesn’t care about the Fallen, in fact she can’t stand supernaturals as a whole. Her cousin is what brings her to G2, she would do anything for her beloved cousin Pell, even sell her soul to Brends.
So, I had a few issues with this book. First, scenes seemed to abruptly end unfinished and move on to an unrelated scene. In a similar note, you are dropped into this world with no real world building. When you start this book its like it’s the 2nd or 3rd in a series, like you should already know what the world is all about, but it’s the first, so you don’t. It takes a while into the book before you truly feel comfortable in the new world that Anne March built. Then there is a secondary love story going on, which at times was more interesting them the primary love story, however, it is left very sparse on details. It does not integrate with the rest of the story. A good example of integrating a secondary love story with the primary would be in Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh. The second story of Walker and Lara seamlessly integrates into the plot. You don’t feel like it takes away from the primary story but adds to it. There are enough details to feel like the story is complete and you know this couple. In this book it starts to heat up and then bam just as soon as you’re getting into this secondary plot it abruptly ends and you don’t hear from this couple again until almost the end of the book, you have no idea what happens in the middle. Next our heroine Mischka is a smart woman, but is really dense. I mean seriously, dense, it’s almost laughable. Lastly, is this erotica or is this romance? I don’t see anything that indicates it’s supposed to be erotica but sex is the central theme from the first page. If the characters are not thinking about sex, or talking about sex, then they are having sex and the character development suffers for it.
Ok, so all that being said, it was a decent book. It kept me engaged pretty much from beginning to end. I read it straight through and it kept me up. The concept is intriguing and a bit different, I like the unique. As for the characters, Brends is your typical Alpha Male type, I’d have to say I enjoyed him. He knows what he wants and is willing to go for it. He’s loyal and protects what’s his. He’s not my favorite male character ever but he’s quite enjoyable. Mischka, like I said is smart, sassy and holds her own even against the Fallen. She does not take Brends shit and gives as good as she gets, which is why it was all that more annoying when she was being so damn dense. She should have seen that set up from the beginning, it was that obvious. She is a good girl who wants to do bad things! Who doesn’t feel that way sometimes, and when a good girl goes bad, it’s epic. The sex scenes are plentiful and erotic probably the most developed scenes of the book. The second book in the series I believe comes out soon. I have to say that I’ll probably read it, I’m intrigued and I would like to see where Anne Marsh goes with this and hopefully some of the weaknesses are fixed in the next book.
