They Said It Couldn't Happen, but They Were Wrong.

Jameson Bryant found her in an abandoned building, half-starved, her face chalk-white yet strikingly beautiful. He knew what she was, but he couldn't resist the power of her violet eyes. Even her warning to stay away only served to draw him closer.

But it was too late and had been from the first moment he saw her. With one parting of her lips, the hungry creature of the night took him, body, heart and soul... Nine months later, their tiny dark angel was born...in twilight.

Enjoy the special bonus novella "Twilight Vows."

I live in the teeny, tiny town of Taylor, NY, (Alliteration Alert!) though my mailing address is Cincinnatus, my telephone exchange is Truxton and I pay taxes and vote in Cuyler. All of these are at least in the same rural county in the southern hills of New York State; Cortland County. There are more cattle than people here. The nearest “big” cities are Syracuse and Binghamton and they are an hour away, in different directions, and not really all that big by most standards, though they both seem humongous to me. I look out my window to see rolling, green, thickly forested hills, wildflower laden meadows and wide open blue, blue skies. My road is barely paved. The nearest neighboring place is a 700 acre dairy farm.

My house is a big, century old farmhouse. I moved in here after my divorce in 2006. Just a little over a year later, the house, which I had named, SERENITY, burned. It was 99% gutted, and I lost my two dogs, Sally, an 11-year-old great Dane, and Wrinkles, my 14-year-old, blind bulldog. This was the culmination of my Dark Night of the soul, which had seemed to hit me all at once in 2006-2007. My mother died that year, after a 14 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was only 60. The youngest of my five daughters had left home that same year, and while that’s not a tragedy at all, it felt like one to me. Then came the divorce. And finally there was the fire--it seemed my darkest night wasn’t quite finished with me after all. I had lost almost everything before that point, and as I poked through the wet ashes and soot the next day, I realized that I had now been stripped all the way to the bone.

No better time to start over. (And no, I didn’t come to that realization that day--there were a few days of wallowing in pity first, particularly the day after the fire, when I hit a deer and smashed up my car, which I was practically living in!)

That’s when I started to laugh. Just sat on the side of the road as the deer bounded, uninjured and carefree, out of sight, and laughed. It was just too ridiculous at that point, to do anything else!

And from there, I picked myself up, and brushed myself off, and said, okay, there’s only one way to go from here. Forward. And that’s what I did. There I was at the age of harrurmphemmph, living in my one, mostly undamaged remaining room, with a dorm-sized mini-fridge, a futon, a TV, my cat (nine lives!) and a laptop. And not much else. (Though thank goodness the room that survived the fire, was a room that had its own attached bathroom!)

Since then I have rebuilt my beloved home, which really has become my haven, my “Serenity.” I share it now with my fiancé, Lance, and we have accumulated quite the little family together. “Little” being a relative term. We have a pair of English Mastiffs, Dozer and Daisy, who weigh 203 pounds and 208 pounds respectively, and a little pudgy English Bulldog named Niblet, who is bigger than both of them, inside her mind. We also have the aforementioned cat, Glorificus (“Glory” for short,) who adores her canine pups and keeps them firmly in line. And we've acquired a pair of stray cats as well, a mother and son, Luna (Lulu for short) and Butters aka Buddy. Lulu showed up pregnant during a lunar eclipse, had a litter, and vanished again. We found homes for all the kittens except one. Butters. We got him fixed and kept him. A few months later, Lulu returned, again expecting. This litter was born on the "Monster Moon." Again, all the kittens were spayed and neutered and placed in homes, and this time we got Lulu to the vet in time to spay her before the cycle could repeat.

Glory is not amused.

She has a story of her own, my old Glory cat, having been with me before the Dark Times descended, she went through it all with me, moved with me, survived the fire, and remains with me still. She's tolerating the newcomers. Barely.

My partner is an artist, a mechanic, a welder and an inventor, and the rumors are true, he is much younger than I

A week before she is about to take her final vows and become a nun Angelica ventures out alone at night to help the homeless. On the way to the shelter she is attacked by a ruthless vampire and transformed into one of the undead.

Jameson Bryant's life has been haunted by the evil DPI (Department of Paranormal Investigations/vampire killers ~ if you were wondering) because he has a rare blood type that will allow a vampire to transform him into a creature of the night. He escapes their clutches but during the last set of tests they happen to take more than just Jameson's blood. They've take his sperm (yikes!) in order to start their next phase of experiments.

Jameson finds Angelica near death suffering from self imposed starvation and although he knows she is dangerous something about her calls out to him and he is compelled to help her. Too hungry to resist what Jameson offers she drinks from him and cannot stop . . . Just as she realizes she's ended this beautiful, kind man's life a DPI agent shows up. In her fear and confusion she believes him when he says he can make her mortal again. The DPI fear vampires and it is their intent to exterminate the race. In their never-ending paranoia they discover it may be possible for a newly turned vampire to become impregnated. Angelica naively becomes their guinea pig in their newest and most heartless experiment to date.

Fortunately Jameson's vampire friends show up in time to transform him and when he learns of the results of the DPI's experiments he sets out to find Angelica. Although she thinks he's a monster and he despises her for cutting his mortal life short they must join forces if they are to save another innocent from the hellish clutches of the DPI.

The best thing about this story is the care the author takes to develop the love story and the characters. She didn't take the easy way out and let them fall into a silly love/hate relationship so prominent in many novels. The characters struggle and grow and slowly begin to like each other almost against their will. They were real people and when they fall in love you know it's for eternity. This romance is the stuff dreams are made of.

Ms. Shayne's amazing storytelling talent shines in BORN IN TWILIGHT. The ultimate page-turner, it is a not to be missed read for lovers of a fast paced, darkly sensual, deeply emotional, tear jerking stories. Although it is a spin-off of her popular Wings In The Night series (for the now defunct Silhouette Shadows line) it very easily stands alone

This is definitely my favorite book so far and my favorite male vampire character! I am so in love with Jameson and he is fictional...ah the shame of it all :-).

A very similar style to the other books (ie trashy romance with the male business exec replaced with a vampire). Quick and easy reads. Leaves you feeling happy. The thing I also liked about the book was the dedication:

"This book is dedicated to you. You who refuse to apologise for your choice of entertainment. You who walk into a bookstore, place your stack of romance on the counter and look the clerk in the eye with your chin up and your spine straight. You who despite the opinions of pop psychologists know full well the difference between fantasy and reality. You who have made romance the world's top selling form of fiction. All of you who share the secret: romance novels are by woman for woman and about women. No wonder some people are so afraid of them".

I thought is was poetic. I confess - I am still a closet romance reader, but there is a reason why this genre is the number one selling genre. The books leave you feeling happy and light and in the mood for more in the series. If you take it as how it was intended (that is, not a book to change the world or challenge you to think deeply about life, but a book to leave you with a smile on your face) then you will walk away happy from this read.

Born in Twilight tells the story of Jameson. The little boy we first met in Twilight Phantasies (Wings in the Night #1), is all grown up and not sure if he wants to be turned or not. Angelica is a newly turned vampire on her own with no one to teach her. She takes Jameson without realizing what she is doing and leaves him for dead. Now, as you can tell from the blurb on the book - Angelica ends up pregnant with Jameson's child, but I don't want to give away too many of the specifics - let's just say that the bad guys have a hand in the whole thing.

This was not my favorite of the series so far. Jameson got on my nerves with his super macho attitude and the religious symbolism was a little over the top. I did love to see how all the characters from the past books played their own role in the story without taking away from the romance budding between Angelica and Jameson. I also enjoyed seeing how the little boy I grew to love in Twilight Phantasies turned out all grown up.

While this was an excellent story, I really failed to connect with both of the main characters. Jamieson was too angry and vengeful and just plain mad, even knowing that Angelica had no control as hungry as she was, he still 'hated' her. He knew this before they met up again. And Angelica was kind of the same judgmental person the first half of the book, but hers was a bit more understandable to me. So I had these problems that didn't vanish, no matter how good the story was.

That said, I was entertained, engrossed in learning what happened, and did enjoy the read. I just didn't really like the characters much.

The original release of this book. Book 5 in Wings of the Night vampire series. Republished in a duet "At Twilight"

"Born in Twilight" book 5 in the series. 3 stars. Not one of my favorites, but did include the characters from the first two books in the series. Focuses on Jameson Bryant (a Chosen- who gets changed at the very beginning of the novel) and Angelica (vampire). This book was originally published as a stand alone novel, but since it has been OOP for a long time, I'm very glad it was reissued.

I think out all the books in series this is my favourite. Even after all the mistakes made by Jamison and Angelica. Even after all that Jamison can't help to fall for her and want to help her. After he fines out he's a father all character from before come to rescue with Jamison. Great action/suspense. Beautiful HEA.

Relectura

This book has not aged well. It's grotesquely clichéd and the whole dialogue seems hammy. The story is ok but the writing really was a turn off. For example, hero calls the heroine 'Angel' which is fine in itself but sounds incredibly idiotic when used multiple times in the same sentence. Examples- "I've loved you all along, Angel. Even that first night, I felt something... something I couldn't explain. I told myself I hated you, but I didn't. I couldn't. You...you're everything to me, Angel. Everything." And
"Not like any other child," he told her. "No, not my Amber. She's far from normal. She's the daughter of an Angel." And
"Hold Amber Lily tight, sweet Angel. I'm taking the two of you out of here."
All this within a few sentences from each other.

WOW😃

The Wings in the Night series continues with a pair of romances worth every word. I love how stubborn Jameson is. And Donovan too. I also love both women - they don't cower like damsels in distress. Great book I'd recommend to anyone wanting a great read - lots of action as well as romance.

The series definitely gets better with each story. I loved the idea of Amber Lily being born to the vampires. I didn't like that she was an experiment by mad scientists though. However, it was part of the plot that made me keep reading. I do so love a happy ending.

It's been years since I read this book but it was one of my first Maggie Shayne books. I fell in love with paranormal romance and vampires after reading this book. Plus, favorite tropes and all. Definitely worth a re-read.

First off, this is like book five of this series. I knew it wasn't the first book of the series, but I was unaware I was skipping four books. Also, not sure why they put "In the tradition of Anne Rice" on the cover. The only thing this book and Anne Rice books have in common is that they're both about vampires, and I like them.
Now, onto more serious business.
*hysterical laughter* I'm never serious.

So, Angelica is an almost nun and Jameson is an almost vampire.
Then Angelica is a vampire. And Jameson is a vampire.
Through some SCIENCE performed by a bunch of assholes, Angelica ends up pregnant with Jameson's baby. Then evil organization kidnaps baby. Angelica and Jameson have to work together to save baby, but, they "hate" each other. That hate lasts for a few chapters before they end up in bed.
Anyways, I loved this book *laughs*
I love Maggie Shayne's writing and books. I highly recommend all of them.

It was pretty good. I am not interested in reading any of the others, but I did enjoy reading this one. I cant remember a lot about it, so apparently it wasnt one of my favorites. I do remember not being able to put it down though.
