Vampire Academy

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest and most dangerous vampires--the ones who never die.
The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them.
After two years of illicit freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. Rose will continue her Dhampir education. Lissa will go back to being Queen of the elite Moroi social scene. And both girls will resume breaking hearts.
Fear made Lissa and Rose run away from St. Vladimir's – inside the Academy’s iron gates, their world is even more fraught with danger. Here, the cutthroat ranks of the Moroi perform unspeakable rituals and their secretive nature and love of the night creates an enigmatic world full of social complexities. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever...

Frostbite

Rose Hathaway's got serious guy trouble. Her gorgeous tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason has a huge crush on her, she keeps getting stuck in her best friend Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian.
Then a massive Strigoi attack puts St. Vladmir's on high alert, and the Academy crawls with Guardians-including the legendary Janine Hathaway...Rose's formidable, long-absent mother. The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy's not taking any risks. This year, St. Vladmir's holiday ski trip is mandatory.
But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only provide the illusion of safety. When three students run away to strike back against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. Only this time, Rose-and her heat-are in more danger than she ever could have imagined.

Shadow Kiss

Rose Hathaway knows it is forbidden to love another guardian. Her best friend, Lissa-the last Dragomir princess-must always come first. Unfortunately, when it comes to gorgeous Dimitri Belikov, some rules are meant to be broken...
But since making her first Strigoi kills, Rose hasn't been feeling right. Something dark has begun to grow in her mind, and ghostly shadows warn of a terrible evil drawing nearer to the Academy's iron gates. And now that Lissa and Rose's sworn enemy, Victor Dashkov, is on trial for his freedom, tensions in the Moroi world are higher than ever.
Lying to Lissa about Dimitri is one thing but suddenly there's way more than friendship at stake. The immortal undead are on the prowl, and they want vengeance for the lives that Rose has stolen. In a heart-stopping battle to rival her worst nightmare, Rose will have to choose between life, love, and the two people who matter most..but will her choice mean that only one can survive?

Blood Promise

How far will Rose go to keep her promise?
The recent Strigoi attack at St. Vladimir’s Academy was the deadliest ever in the school’s history, claiming the lives of Moroi students, teachers, and guardians alike. Even worse, the Strigoi took some of their victims with them. . . including Dimitri.
He’d rather die than be one of them, and now Rose must abandon her best friend, Lissa—the one she has sworn to protect no matter what—and keep the promise Dimitri begged her to make long ago. But with everything at stake, how can she possibly destroy the person she loves most?

FANTASTIC
This is without a doubt one of my favorite YA Fantasy series.
I do love Richelle Mead, her series Succubus Blues is also one of my favorite UF series ever.

What you'll find in this series:
Entertainment from beginning to end. Action, emotion, badassery, growth, adventure, VAMPIRES, fighters, excitement, suspense, intrigue, passion, love.
Great plot. Brilliant story evolution, believable succession of events and excellent plot development.
Fantastic characters and character development. Intelligent, brave, responsable, tough and feminine heroins that make smart choices. Hot, mysterious, loyal, intriguing, inteligent and badass male main characters. Characters that mature, learn and behave accordingly to their ages, circumstances, and life lessons.
Incredible relationships. Intense and developed romance with out of this word chemistry and longing. True bounds of friendships and loyalty.
Exemplary.

This series has it all. I have reread it many times and I will do it again. I eat this series up!

Eat it up

My favorite book within this series is Blood Promise (Book 4), which is one of my favorite books of all time. However, the book that truly made me a hardcore fan of the Vampire Academy was Shadow Kiss (Book 3), the final part enthralled me and trapped my heart.

The audiobook narrator is very good. My first time with these books was by paperbacks, after that, all my rereads have been by audiobooks.

I highly recommend this series, both to YA and adults, females and males. It is just great.

P.S.: The movie is appallingly TERRIBLE and does an atrocious disservice to these books. It should be staked in the heart!

Karen at For What It's Worth and Mary at The Book Swarm occasionally post twitter-style reviews. Karen calls hers Short and Tweet, and I am going to borrow that review style here.

Tweet Review:

I was on bedrest for my back and had some free time, so I wanted to re-read these.

I love it just as much the second time around. I loved Rose's strength, sarcasm, and loyalty to Lissa. The romance is hot and rooted for them all the way through. Highly recommend if you haven't read them. A series that gets better with each book

I. Love. This. Book!!!!
Honestly who doesn't? I love Richelle Mead a lot! The way she portrayed the book is just amazing!
Look at the Genre. Vampire is something cliché if you look at other books but in this book the vampires are explained not as creatures who suck blood and kill but as creatures having their own life trying best to live without bothering humans. How she tells us that they keep humans to drink from them a.k.a feeders. Before they used to interact with them and they got unfertile offsprings which are Dhampir and they are the protectors a.k.a Guardians. Vampires have powers which are the four elements, Earth, Fire, Water & Air. They can also do compulsion but go against it.

Look at Lissa. A vampire who is depressed because she hasn't specialized in a power but is having different powers she and her friend don't understand. She is kind and sweet but slightly manipulative with her compulsion. She has a thin figure. Perfect Vampire & unique.
Look at Rose. She is the unfertile offspring of a Moroi and Dhampir since they have no contact with humans. She is badass, learns how to fight, beautiful figure and has a huge attitude. Not what's expected and extremely unique.
Look at Dimitri. He is wise, a Russian, a God and a frikin amazing fighter. He as well is extremely handsome. Not expected again.
All the other characters like the queen that doesn't act like a queen but a queen biatch and she wears business clothes. The schools have same subjects but magic class for Moroi and training for Dhampirs.
All in all, a completely unexpected, zany, and unique book! If you don't like this book, who knows what you like.

One of the best book series I have ever read! The name originally through me off when I was debating whether or not to buy this book but I decided to give it a shot and boy am I glad I did! This is tied for number one, along with the Mortal Instruments Series, as my favorite books ever. Richelle writes in such a way that you become super in love with all the characters. Since you're reading it from Rose's POV it's almost like you are her. You get sad when she does, get mad when she does, and fall in love the same way she does. I like this book because it gives you a strong heroin not some priss who just sits in the corner waiting for Prince Charming, although there is one. As you read this series you will fall in love with Dimitri! Who doesn't love a hot ass-kicking Russian?! You really feel the connection between the two characters. The title makes it sound like some stupid teenage romance novel like Twilight but it is so much better. Twilight cannot even hold a candle to this!

AND THE MOVIE IS IN THE WORKS! FALL IN LOVE WITH THE BOOK BEFORE IT COMES OUT!

I loved this entire series, (I had to add the other two books separately) and everything Richelle has written. Her main character, Rose, kicks butt both literally and figuratively. I love that her main character, as with all her series; is a strong female, who also has her own flaws. I will admit that I was extremely frustrated with a large part of the fourth book (Blood Promise)but it was an important part of the growth of her character.
If you love this series, then you should read Bloodlines. It's not necessarily important to read this series before Bloodlines, but it will give away important plot points and endings from this series.

I cried when Mason died and when she didn't want to leave his body or let anyone near his body. I cried when she passed out on the plane because of the ghosts. I cried when she staked Dimitri on the bridge. I cried a lot of times while reading the whole series. I loved it. I love Rose's character. Brilliant.

Favourite series. Without a doubt, one of the best pieces of Young Adult literature written.

We have a messy main character who is flawed and makes mistakes. An actually unique and well-done vampire trope. Friend relationships between female characters that are based on real and genuine love, respect, and care for one another, alongside male love interests who very much take a backseat to their female counterparts.

It's a refreshing read filled with magic, action, adventure, humour, horror and heartbreak. Rose is the most realistic protagonist that I've read in a long time, and refreshing sure of herself (for the most part).

I would highly recommend that everyone give it a go, especially in advance of the TV series coming out in the future!

When I'd gone to my home town for a holiday, I'd got myself a first copy of this book and decided when I'm bored in the evenings, I'll just read it to pass the time.

Now I am a proud owner of the whole franchise.

I have read every single book within a day. I couldn't go to sleep, I couldn't function before I read the book. I loved the main characters and I loved how well written the books are. I loved the drama, suspense and definitely the romance (not only once, but few).

If you like vampiers, hot half vampires, fighting, politics, drama and romance involved, you must read all those books, but one isn't going to be enough.

Richelle Mead is an amazing author. This book series is fascinating, romantic, and fun. I love paranormal romance books and this is an example of some of the best. Lissa and Rose have a unique bond that grows as the books progress. The way that the author created the Dhampir and Strigoi is a brilliant addition to this series; who is the good who is the evil and is it really that cut and dry?

The story starts getting realty good when they add the connection between Rose and her tutor of all things Dhampir Dimitri makes this really start to sizzle. Unfortunately their connection might not be everything Rose hoped it would be.

Though I was way outside of the YA age group when I read this I loved it! If you weren't hooked by the first book ... you will be now!

The world was SO well created and the characters jump off the page. It is easy to fall in love or hate with them.

Each book got better as you grew to know the characters, there dynamics and the conflicts in their world! Plenty of action and MUCH better done than the movie that followed years later!

Four books into the series and I can't wait for more!
