Rune Might: Secret Pratices of the German Rune Magicians

Rate this book
This book reveals, for the first time in the English language, the long hidden secrets of the German rune magicians who practiced their arts in the beginning of this century. Most of their work has been unavailable even in German for several decades. Sexual runic procedures, runic dance, yoga, gestures and more are covered in this well-researched book.

Where “Runelore” offers a theoretical approach and “The Nine Doors to Midgard” a highly stratified program of working with the Runes, this book seeks to offer practical application of runic concepts, especially to those already grounded in the Western esoteric tradition. It dispenses with the claim, sometimes made by branches of the runic magical community, that there is no connection between them. Modern rune studies, Thorsson shows in the opening chapters, have been since the beginning tied to esoteric study of the Kabbalah and Theosophy. Certain approaches have moved more or less away from that tradition, some in an effort to return to more “pure” or “Germanic” runic magic, but none is truly separated from it.

So far as the practices themselves, your mileage may vary. Personally, I can’t get all that excited about “rune yoga” or “rune mantras,” but if that’s your thing, this is probably the best source for them. One area that concerns me is the section on “rune healing,” which lacks any kind of disclaimer about not providing medical advice without a license, and even goes so far as to refer to the subject of the magic as a “patient.” It also includes a suggested visualization/meditation practice for depression, which can give a person with mental illness an excuse to self-medicate, rather than seeking trained professional help. Long experience demonstrates that this is very dangerous, and I hope any future editions have been or will be corrected.

This book contains some original MAGICAL WORKINGS translated into English for the first time by Dr. Flowers AKA Edred Thorsson originally written by the elder German/Austrian Rune-Occultist of the early 1900's. In particular the "Grail Cup Ritual" and the "Ritual of Ninth Night" as performed by the original Rune-Masters Von List, Hartmann, Marby, Kummer, Gorsleben, Shou and etc...

The book has long been out of print....

I want to first say I disagree if what I’ve been told about the politics of the author. That being said this is a very useful and important book in the use and understanding of any Germanic connected runes. I will be recommending it often.

I love this book. Without it I probably wouldn't of known about many of these people who did work with the runes in the 1800s and early 1900s. Really important work that should be on every shelf.

It was such an interesting book that talks a lot about the history of Germanic Runes, and how they are used!
