Rate this book
Crocheting takes on a new dimension in this fun and creative collection of 30 stunning yet easy-to-make necklaces, earrings, and bracelets--all made using wire. Those new to crochet will get all the basics of crocheting, including finishing off, adding new wire, and planning projects--with plenty of illustrations throughout for guidance. There is also a discussion of which crochet hooks to use, and how to choose the right wire gauge to suit any project. Most of the projects are simple, requiring single crochet, half-double crochet, and double crochet in the same basic patterns used in yarn crochet. Beaders will delight over a new way to play with beads, and seasoned crocheters will relish this fresh, innovative approach to a time-honored, favorite technique.

I'm reading this about 15 years after publication. It may have been much more revolutionary back then, but these days there are so many great books about wire jewelry that Crochet with Wire can't compete. The projects are more crafty looking, less polished, than I'd like. I've crocheted, and knitted, but never with wire. This book doesn't necessarily make me want to grab wire and needles, though.

I've been wanting to try wire crochet for some time now. The only glitch is that the only stitch I remember learning from my mom - about 100 years ago - is single crochet.

After looking through this book, I find that once I practice that and one or two other stitches, I'll be on my way to making some very pretty crocheted jewelry items!

The instructions and explanations are very clear and concise. I had no trouble following any of the project details. Listings of necessary items are included. What I found most helpful was the section on how to finish off the piece with clasps or ear wires.

Now to find those crochet hooks I've been hoarding for so long...

This was just interesting to look at and read about it. I don't think I'm taking it up as a hobby though. If you do like crocheting with wire there were several pretty patterns in this book.
