"Immortal" the first of the Immortal series introduces us to Karla, and her friends Joseph and Matt- would-be heroes in a post-apocalyptic paradise of Topaz that has been targeted for destruction by their Nemesis Tehotep. The difficulty our heroes encounter however is that none of them has any idea that they are heroes. Connected only through their dreams, they hunt and are hunted through myriad landscapes - some beautiful, some terrifying only hinting at their Other origins and supernatural abilities. Struggling to make sense of her supernatural dream world and reality, Karla's perfect world comes crashing down around her and when an unfathomable horror occurs, our heroes escape, with the help of their watchful Guardian, into the past - into The Time of Legends.

The Time of Legends is a horrific war-torn landscape where Topaz and the rest of the world are embroiled in war, where poverty, racism, sexism, crime and fear are rampant. But this "magical" time holds the key to forming Topaz's paradisal future. Here our heroes find allies and more nemeses as they fight to protect Topaz and insure its growth into the shining utopia of the future. And here our villian, Tehotep obsessed with power and the desire - makes his stand to revise history and make Karla his once and for all.

Valjeanne Jeffers takes us deep into her multi-ethnic universe of Indigo, Fuschia, Copper and Bronze people where the possibility of love and hope remain in the face of cruelty, adversity, corporate tyranny and sorcery. The reality of duty is confronted with the reality of relationships as our heroes fight their enemies and their own addictions, faults, jealousies and doubts. This is an adult's view of a changing and hostile world and the connections made with others to survive it.

The landscapes both real and in dreams are richly created and the pacing leaves the reader breathless as the heroes and villians all try to make sense of their world and their place in it.

It is the year of our one, 2587 ... in the great city-state of Topaz. Karla and Joseph escape from the soulless Tehotep through a mystic wormhole summoned by the Guardian Opal, and find themselves 400 years in the past. It is The Time of Legend.

Immortal II is a whirlwind of mysticism, intrigue, and horror. Its characters are deep and palatable. Its landscapes are beautiful and tragic. Valjeanne Jeffers is a master at weaving a tale that combines eroticism, metaphysics, and hard science fiction in a way that is natural and addictive.

No other piece reads like the Immortal series. The experiencer is transported to a place where one forgets that they are reading - but instead finds themselves living the characters; breathing in step with each passing page. Ms. Jeffers creates a tormented antagonist in Tehotep. A Daeman ... someone I grew to hate in book I, but almost felt sorry for in Immortal II ... almost.

Karla, a beautiful Indigo woman - her presence in the world spanning across time: her memories reaching back to her lover Joseph: a handsome copper man. His integrity and insight captures Karla's heart in a world and place beyond even the Time of Legend.

The Immortal series is a self-contained universe: complete with it's own language, history, and culture. If you dig intelligent speculative fiction seasoned with eroticism and mysticism, then run to this piece. I can't recommend Immortal II enough. And if you haven't already, treat yourself to Immortal: book I!!!!

This one was pretty hard to get into, but once I did I found that I liked the story.

There were times in the beginning that I was completely confused. I've never read the first book, so I can only assume that some of the concepts were explained there. Like the idea of having a double, it was never fully explained. I had to pretty much guess what they were talking about when it first came up. At first I thought that maybe I had missed something, but when I went back and looked there was no other reference to it.

Tehopt, was the most interesting character in the book. I loved that he was evil and crazy, that always makes for a great bad guy.

When the beginnings of all of the other's life were revealed it made everything come into focus and helped everything come to a close nicely.

There were times though, when it moved too fast. Going from one major event to the next with hardly any introduction. Overall, I would say that it's a good story once you get into it.

I've read Immortal 1, and look forward to reading 2, and 3 (when it's released). So many things about Book 1 are done exceedingly well, lushly even. Miss Jeffers has a sumptuous turn of phrase, a multicultural cast that is 3 dimensional, and purposeful (there are very solid examples of surviving oneself in the first book).

Shall return to add to this when I finish Immortal II *_^

Shine on Lady Jeffers!

After reading the first book I was really looking forward to the sequel.

I can only say that I wasn't disappointed as Immortal II kept me entranced right up to the last page. The book followed on where the first one finished. Would the heroes (the 'Others') manage to defeat the evil sorcerer (Tehotep)? What secrets are the characters in the story hiding?

Ms. Jeffers has created a fascinating world filled with distinctive characters. Recommended reading.

I liked this book! It was very interesting and the characters had some unique quirks to them that made the book. It took me a while to work out who everyone was and what their world was like, but I had not read #1, so that is to be expected. I think I would have enjoyed the story more if I had read in order. It is a short, but fast paced read.
