Rate this book
Anna decides to take an end-of-summer getaway-to get away from her drama-filled LA life. So she packs her Louis Vuitton, grabs her close friend Sam, and heads to the Big Apple. Between trips to the Met and shopping at Bendel's, the girls are living the A-List life on Anna's home turf. But their trip isn't exactly a vacation. Sam is here to spy on Eduardo and decode his recent strange behavior. Will what she discovers send her hopping on the next private jet back to Beverly Hills? And who is the beautiful stranger who appears on Anna's Upper East Side doorstep? Anna begins to wonder whether she wants to head back west again-especially since Ben seems to have moved on . . . with someone who isn't a stranger at all. I will start with saying that I learned that the author, Zoey Dean, seems pretentious and stuck up just like Cammie. I feel as if these books get worse and worse as the series continues. I never got into Beautiful Stranger because a) it was boring and b) there wasn't any good character development (you would have thought that the characters would have done plenty of developing by the 9th book but NO.

So we start off with Anna and Ben on the rocks (like always) and Cammie wanting Ben and all his hotness (like always) and Sam still hating her body and making sure the reader knows it (like always). I do think that Sam being some what comfortable with her bodacious hips at the beginning of the book was a great change but she kind of goes back to old Sam as the story progresses. Anna meets an old flame and these begin to spark up again in New York while she and Sam are there for a week. Cammie and Ben embark on a new business while Cammie shamelessly tries to spark something new between her and Ben. The book was so-so. I just wish the characters would change a little bit and grow up! People do change over a few months Zoey.... just letting you know.

okay so i only started reading these books after i finished the gossip girl series, the it girl, pretty little liars, twilight, the clique and so on. i didnt have anything else to read so i started the a-list. i first saw it advertised in the back of some book and started reading the series.
im on beauitful stranger in the series and i just cant make myself finish the book. its sorta like a chore for me to read it, but i want to just finish the seires. what i have noticed in these books is that she describes sooooo much stuff, that i usually skip a few paragraphs just so i can get back to whats goin on. for example, in the first chapter all that happens is that they r at a party, they all say hi, ben and anna go outside to talk a lil bit, end of chapter. the rest of the pages in the first chapter were spent telling on and on about describing and describing things. its kinda boring.
another thing about this book that i dont like is the characters. sam is a character that only complains about being fat. sam rely got on my nerves when her boyfriend was trying to propose to her and she thought he was braking up with her, anyone with a brain could tell he was trying to propose but all she thought about is that hes breaking up with her cuz she fat.
anna is another character that i dont like. i dont know how to explain it, but i hate anna, she gets on my nerves so bad. shes never happy, she has to have everything be perfect, she is just ugh, idk.
cammie is another character that i dislike. cammie always has to act like a bitch. but inside she is all emotional... blah, blah, blah... and she loves ben and didnt mean to hurt him... blah, blah, blah. and on and on.

I was definitely more annoyed with Anna and Sam in this one than usual. Anna needs to get her shit together and realize she can do anything she wants. Sam needs to stop being so illogically jealous and jump to conclusions. I enjoyed Logan, who I totally forgot existed, and the Cammie/Ben thing is intriguing. I love the club aspect. Overall, a bit frustrating from a character development perspective, but enjoyable overall story. Ready for the last book! Ahhh.

The A-List is basically a series about a group of people who are all descendants of famous people that work in Hollywood. Set in Claifornia, each book talks about how the main characters undergo constant obstacles and a series of events that all lead to a lot of misunderstanding. (And seriously, they all have trust issues. How many more readings about betrayals and backstabbing can I withstand before I consider throwing the book away? But it's like an addiction almost; I can't stop reading, even as I cringe and wince the whole way through.) This series is like Gossip Girls, except this is about California and Hollywood while Gossip Girl is about the Upper East Side of Manhattan's elite.

This is one of those books that I read just because I like it. You don't gain much out from reading it but pleasure and the thrill of excitement as you wonder what's going to happen next. You don't gain knowledge about anything except for designer labels (I can pick them off my mind right now: Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, Chloe, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, etc.) which I couldn't afford anyway, so what's the point in memorizing them? I mean, if you handed me a Dior bag and stopped me from reading the label, I wouldn't have an idea what kind of purse it is.

Still, besides the constant stampede of clothes description and how perfection lies in every rich teenager's face, I liked the overall plot. Everyone fantasies about the lives of the rich and fabulous. They're the specially priveleged(privelleged?) people in society, and it's just not fair to everyone else. They get what they want, all the time, while we actually have to count of something else but money to lead a good life. It's fascinating to read about these group of kids and, even thought it's entirely fiction, it makes us feel better to know that even rich kids have their own problems.

I swear, this series just gets worse and worse. I don't expect great things from beachy books about spoiled teenagers in Hollywood, but the glaring factual errors are plain distracting. At this point, I'm mostly reading because I'm curious about what happens to Anna, the only halfway-likeable character, and because it's fun picking apart the book.

Sam's insecurity is getting old. Didn't the same thing happen in the last book, when Eduardo was going to ask her to marry him? She jumped to conclusions, didn't let him explain and dumped him. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's getting old. So is Cammie's bitchiness. And why has Dee faded to the background?

The most glaring error in these books is the concept of 'show, don't tell' that Dean breaks in just about every paragraph. Yes, we get that Cammie has perfect curls and giant fake boobs, or that Ben has chiseled abs, but we don't need to be reminded about it constantly. Also, the name-dropping is getting old. Is Dean getting sponsored by labels to mention them in the books?

Where's your copy editor? Dean clearly has no concept of what's plausible and what's completely ridiculous anymore. Wtf, soundproof cone? And hello, typos.

I'm not sure I'll be reading the next one. Also, I read the interview with Dean in the back of the book and she sounded ridiculously arrogant and full of herself. She shouldn't be so flattered - a high school student with delusions of grandeur could write these books. It doesn't take talent.

yet another yawn worthy boo hoo story from dean. Anna has to be one of the least likable heroines in the history of writing! Everything about her annoys me and makes me want to straight up slap her. The sam-eduardo romance had some cute aw worthy moments but otherwise it was still relatively boring. So glad to be nearly done with this series! i know this series wasnt really meant for adults but honestly i dont even see it being that great for younger kids. Theres certainly no role models in it and the writing while not totally atrocious isnt great enough to make up for the cardboard characters and cookie cutter plot. Reading the Q&a with the author at the end though i got a sense of why the bookssuck so hard. Dean is an a-lister snob. I have no clue whether gossip girl came before or after this series but at least show wise it was way better due to the fact that you get an outside look at the a list rather than just hearing the a list whine about their lives

This book is another in one of the series of teen books I consider a guilty pleasure. It is like reading US Magazine or the exploits of Paris Hilton. This is not deep reading but it is enjoyable and goes fast. I still don't like this series as much as Gossip Girl but it is not bad.

These books are actually so hard to get through, i don't know why. Maybe it talks about fashion and materialistic things too much or something. Maybe someday i will read the final one but i don't know.

I love this series, it’s so easy to read and feels as relaxing as watching a tv show. A truly perfect way to unwind and I really enjoyed this book, the drama of Cammie and Ben possibly getting back together was so good! Honestly I think they are better suited for each other compared to Ben and Anna, since they just continuously are a will they/ won’t they couple who can’t seem to get it right.

Overall loved this book and sad I will be finishing soon!

Something to read when you've nothing better to do and just want to keep your mind occupied. Full of superfluous personalities and unlikeable people and events. Not for anyone who doesn't understand that California is NOT full of people like this, or those lacking the maturity to understand any of the above, disdainful comments :) Definitely for the bored or a YA reader.

This is my favorite book of the entire series. I loved the fact that Anna grew past LA and Ben. Like, FINALLY.

Also loved reading about the WASPy New York, it was a nice change from the series usual setting at LA.

This wasn’t one of my favorite in the series, I just felt like not a lot happened! It was still entertaining but I feel like it ended in the same place it began. The only thing different is the Anna/Logan relationship and the Ben/Cammie club

The book I read was called, "Beautiful Stranger" by Zoey Dean. It is about this girl, the protagonist, Anna and she decides to take a summer trip to get away from her drama-filled life in California. She takes her close friend, Sam, and heads to New York! Beautiful Stranger is a great story to read for those who need a quick and easy book to read.

"Beautiful Stranger" is an amazing book for teenagers or young adults to read. It exposes them to a lifestyle of a person that is a big name. Many people, especially teenagers, do not realize what the glamorous life includes. Drama is the main part of the glamorous life and many fail to see that. "Beautiful Stranger" has a great message to show this. "But then Cammie had made it quite clear that if she broke up with her current boyfriend, Adam Flood, she was going after Ben." (Dean 7). Cammie is already planning her next relationship when she should enjoy the one that she is already in.

The book was extremely enticing. The story of a girl living a luxury lifestyle is rather intriguing. Anna’s boyfriend had plans of his own though. "I’m thinking about not going back to school." (Dean 12). Ben wants to start a nightclub in California. Anna does not think that it is a bad idea for him to not go to school. Anna believes that he should go to school and maybe consider the nightclub business after he is finished schooling. Anna doesn’t want to go back on the East Coast by herself and leave Ben in California.

The best part about the book was how real the situation portrayed in the book is to reality. Mainstream books such as “Fifty Shades of Grey” are not related to luxury life and the book is not as widely known. The book did not have any weaknesses that stood out; it displayed the actualities in the real-world of being in the spotlight. The book tells the tale of relationships and personal lives in the spotlight.

In conclusion, the book, "Beautiful Stranger" was very well written. It was a fiction book, based on similar events in today's society. Living the life with expensive lavishes may be enjoyable at first, but it may get boring after a while. More celebs will come up and rise, and the ones in there now will later leave the spotlight because of the problems it has created for them. Everyone can see what the spotlight looks like from the outside, but if you don’t know what it is from the inside, you are only an outsider looking into a world that you know nothing about. In the future, the life of many people will change with fame and fortune, but only those who don’t change truly value themselves as a person.

Beautiful Stranger
A-List # 9

Now this is the A-list novel I have been waiting for, without even knowing it. This one left me on the edge of my seat, dying to turn the page. ‘Beautiful Stranger’
captured my attention, the way none of the other ones did. All kinds of emotions were evoked by reading this novel.

The novel starts with Anna trying out her ‘dating’ Ben and Caine at the same time. She enjoys a night with both of them. She is as usual conflicted because, well that’s just so Anna. Which is starting to get annoying, to be honest but it still makes a great story. I find myself yelling at Anna’s character to just go for it, stop being her mother and being so darn well bred and cautious.

Anna is thrown for quite a loop when Caine tells her that he’s going back to his ex-girlfriend Bernadette and he cannot see her anymore. Anna feels relieved, she thinks her decision is made up for her, however what she doesn’t see coming, is Ben dumping her as well. When Anna is very supportive of something Ben is doing, he is finished with her.

Eduardo pops a big question to Sam and from there on Sam is beyond paranoid. Even going as far as dumping him when she catches him doing something that was supposed to be a surprise for her. Sam really starts to become a woman in this one although her self-esteem issues do get her into trouble with Eduardo.

Cammie is more than happy to help Ben in his dream of starting up a club and even more than that. She is trying to get back into his arms after Adam so cruelly stood her up and picked Michigan over her. She would love to give Adam and Anna something to be jealous over. The old Cammie is back yet again but with a few more grown up qualities.

When Sam and Anna go to New York for a week, Anna’s life is turned upside down. She will be going to Yale soon but her Yale meeting was less that exciting and her old childhood friend Logan appearance makes things even more complicating. Will she continue on the path she has had laid out for her since she was eight or start a new one that is actually for the real Anna?

This novel was really a step up in the A-List series, I really enjoyed all the books before these but this one was exceptionally good. The characters showed more depth, I felt like they branched off into a new world. They definitely weren’t in that high school stage of life anymore, and I can honestly say it’s such an enjoyment to see that.

A very wonderful book, intriguing, delicious and well worth your time.

Previously in The A-List: Cammie and Anna had to work together on a fashion show, against their will, after getting caught trespassing on private property. Sam was trying to keep all the pieces in her life together, while Caine and Adam ran out of luck.

Now the A-Listers are back and this time, it's every person for themselves.

Anna wants to get away and clear her head since everything unexpected that has been happening to her. And so, along with her traveling buddy, instead of going to Mexico, her and Sam are off to Anna's hometown, New York. But Sam is there with a different motive: Could her boyfriend possibly be hiding something from her? So now playing private detective is the only way to solve her problems.

Back in L.A., Cammie isn't wasting her time staying single. She needs, no wants, to move on, and since Ben and Anna aren't really a couple now, Ben is looking better by the minute. Besides, she had already warned Anna about her plans if things didn't work out with Adam.

But does Anna really need Ben, since she is trying to become more independent, and now has someone from her past back in her life, possibly for good? And will Cammie successfully snag Ben, or will Ben wait for the one who he says he loves?

Another drama-filled installment that will leave us wanting more, BEAUTIFUL STRANGER will not disappoint any fan of the series. Look out for the next one, CALIFORNIA DREAMING, releasing in April 2008.

I.. LOVE.. LOGAN!
He's amazing, cute, witty and he just clicked with Anna since they both had history together. May not be not much romantically, but hoo boy, I got so hyped in the ending when Anna decided to follow him. (Spoiler alert!) I kinda agree with Sam that Ben isn't quite good for Anna. It seems that everytime they get togther, there's a third girl in the picture. Know what I mean? Although we can't blame Ben for his good looks and charisma, I'd have to give it to Eduardo for being truly inlove with Samantha. He's probably the only guy in the series, aside from Adam that I consider pretty genuine. Sorry, Ben, but I think you should learn to avoid even the slightest flirtation with other ladies especially Cammie! Yes, Cammie at that. I gotta admit, while reading the fourth book in the series, I skipped all Cammie scenes 'cause I really loathed her at that point. However, in Heart of Glass I learned to adore her and now hate her in the 9th book because I don't conider her intentions with Adam pure if she still flirts a helluva lot with Ben. That girl gets to my nerves every time!

I'm starting to love Sam, and her pair-up with Eduardo who's a total sweetheart and a really mature guy.

Like with all the novels, I love how fast-paced the events occur in the A-list. It's a lush, sexy novel easy to devour. However, I still think the first book is the best. Hands down. :)

I enjoyed reading Beautiful Stranger by Zoey Dean. This book explains how Anna decided to take a getaway trip from the drama filled Los Angeles and heads to New York City. This trip was for Anna and Sam to detect Sam's boyfriend to see why he's acting so strange. The book ends in a unique way.

"Will you be my beautiful Samantha forever?" (Dean 44). This explains Eduardo's love for Sam. He simply asks her to marry him. Nothing more than that simple question can change someone's life forever. Love is a powerful thing, it can either bring you up or tear you down, although Sam and Anna start to see a change in Eduardo's actions throughout the story.

How do we know what we know? We know what we know by our feelings and how they change over time. They always say usually go with your gut feeling and not what others think. 80% of the time your gut is right so you just have to follow your heart and make the best decision you can. Those closest to you should love you regardless of whatever decision you make.

I recommend this to anyone who wants to read an interesting love book. Things change throughout the story, the character sometimes becomes a stranger. The ending is surprising and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I have to say, this was one of the few A-List books that I really, really liked -- it was a total page-turner. I know I say this with every volume, but this one really turns down the amount of time we have to spend with Anna, and wow does it make a big difference. When we are with her, she's mostly actually not mooning over Ben, which makes this even better -- I almost care what she thinks! (But then again, only almost -- in other words, not really). Dee's pretty much invisible in this book, but the plots with Cammie and Sam are both quite entertaining. It made me want to read the tenth (and I believe final, at least with these characters) A-List book right away, but I've held off so far. I'm interested to see where the series goes in the last book, and if indeed the one coming out this January is a "new A-List" (similar to how Gossip Girl has switched to an entirely new cast of characters).

The book starts out with Anna and Ben at the Ben-Hur wrap up party where Ben tells her that he wants to open a club. Anna is not thrilled about the idea but goes along with it for a while. Caine shortly dumps Anna because he is serious with another girl. Eduardo proposes to Sam and she accepts. Cammie breaks up with Adam and she hooks up with Ben. Anna is hurt so she goes to New York with Sam and she thinks she is in love an old time friend from elementary school named Logan.

I can connect to Anna when she supported Ben for a while about the club when she really didn't. I have done this before because it made the person happy so I was happy but eventually I told them the truth like Anna did. I think that honesty is the best policy.

I gave this book 5 stars because it kept me hooked the whole time and it was interesting and fun to read. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes the A-list series and the Gossip Girl series. *****

Frankly, if I could give this book a 0 out of 5 stars I would; that's how bad it was!

The only reason why this book ever ended up in my possession was because it was a gift from a friend. In all honesty, I tried to read it and never went beyond the 1st chapter because that was how crap the plot was and how superficial the characters were! And even then I was already finding the entire thing tedious so much so that I was skipping huge chunk of texts to figure out the direction Dean was trying to head in.

I know this book is supposed to appeal to teenagers but seriously, I can think of a good number of books that target the same demographic that are MUCH better written and SO MUCH more meaningful. If you have this book in hand, DITCH IT. If you were thinking of getting it, I BEG YOU DON'T.

This is more like "read enough" than actually "read." Not worth finishing, even in one of those moods where a little trash would be OK. This isn't even good trash, just - as another reviewer wrote - BORING! Not enough story to even half make up for page after page of empty trivia and labels name-dropping. Vacuous beyond belief. So I'm signing off, not about to waste the time finishing it. I would hope even the teen set could do better than this!

This was pretty good! I am so happy for Sam and Eduardo, and I am so excited about Logan. He seems really amazing, and a better alternative to Ben. At least for Anna. The cliffhanger is ridiculous though! I can't wait to read the next book to this dramatic series.
