A thorough summary of everything the Catholic Church knows about the world of the spirits, both good and evil. There is in this collection much reference to Scripture, tradition and the lives of the Saints. Not very engaging, but certainly very carefully laid out and informative.

This is yet, another, exceptional book. It is uplifting and exciting to read - especially that concerning the Angels. Interestingly, the author does indeed note that looking too much into the devils is toxic and problematic and thus looks at the devils in a healthy means to an ends.

So: what do I say about this book? It has encouraged me with regard to my Guardian Angel, and the Archangels whom I am already familiar with in discourse. It has also prepared me for other spiritual reading as the author, Mrs Cruz, largely draws her information from vast (and wide) resources. Which I mean to say, she looks at almost everything and anything.

Joan Cruz is informative in her style, repetitive (but surely not without its purpose, as interestingly enough I started remembering information based on her repeating information concerning the lives of the Saints and Scripture.

She is informative in the level of explaining heirarchy, nature, answering questions and drawing encounters from the lives of the Saints... all of this with the basis of Scripture which is constantly referred to. She looks at Church teaching... and moves quite swiftly and promptly... not dwelling too much as there is too much information to look at.

Quite frankly... thumbs up. The Angels part (part I) is my favourite bit. Quite encouraging and enlightening.

God bless you all!!

Written in a very easy to read format, I found Angels and Devils to be a very informative book about the many things that we deem as spiritual, but are as real and physical as the world around us. I enjoyed the many ways the lives of Saints were involved, and was amazed at the intensity of some of the ways the Saints encountered the angels and demons. Some of the topics Cruz wrote about, such as the nine choirs of angels, or the way that angels interact with the Real Presence, greatly interested me. I know I will be looking for more information on this subject.

I did learn things from reading the book and agree it is well written. However, I found the connections to the devil she made to a lot of the new age, alternative lifestyle way of life too harsh and without foundation. Not all of them, but many of them. I can see, however, where she's coming from being a Catholic and taking such a narrow view. This book will be more relevant to you if you are Catholic or interested in Christian religious doctrine.

Another great book by Cruz! I love her books, they are written for everyone, not just for the scholarly types! Quick, easy reading, great stories throughout. Lots of interesting stories of the Saints experiences with angels and with demons.

So glad I read this!

Although a little repetitive in parts, I learned a lot from this little jewel. Love learning about my faith through reliable researchers and authors. Thank you Joan Carroll Cruz!

I read this many years ago and I really enjoyed the amount of research this author put into getting as many literary examples of angels and devils in perspective for Catholic readers. As a Catholic at the time it helped too that they were able to apply the Catechism and teachings of various faith leaders such as Aquinas, in order to demonstrate the details and how they were considered relevant.

In the contemporary or modern age, I would say that this book is filled with great resources for those who want to understand the ideas of angels and demons in Catholic beliefs.

Currently I am no longer a Catholic but I have a copy for writing purposes.
