This book can be summed up with one line:
"Like all Londoners, Fiona found life's trials easier to bear with a strong cup of tea in hand."
Although, I'm American and I would argue a strong cup of coffee, this little Tea Rose had quite the battle. My word, this poor girl! One thing after another, and yet it was a beautiful disaster. I loved watching this story unfold, the changing settings, the movement and timely placement of the characters. However, at one point, I was so mad at the frustrating m ...more

Fiona Finnigan works in a tea warehouse on the shores of the Thames in 1880s London. Jack the Ripper is terrorizing Whitechapel, but Fiona and her family have troubles of their own. This started out strong but ended with a whimper. The book just didn't live up to the opening chapter. I felt the ending was really contrived.

A little slow in some places, but overall a good read. Reminded me slightly of The Shoemaker's Wife in some ways.
