Silver is continuing her training as a learner but isn't quite ready to give up her past life. Justus and Simon continue their search for the mysterious mage known as "the benefactor." In TWIST we get to know new characters, but more importantly, we learn more about the characters we have previously met. I am enjoying the balance of suspense, comradery, and romance that Dark delivers.

Dark introduces two new types of Breed. A Chitah and a Wolf Shifter. Logan Cross is the Chitah who has cat-like a Silver is continuing her training as a learner but isn't quite ready to give up her past life. Justus and Simon continue their search for the mysterious mage known as "the benefactor." In TWIST we get to know new characters, but more importantly, we learn more about the characters we have previously met. I am enjoying the balance of suspense, comradery, and romance that Dark delivers.

Dark introduces two new types of Breed. A Chitah and a Wolf Shifter. Logan Cross is the Chitah who has cat-like abilities wth speed, senses, and strength. They are feared by Mage for their ability to kill or paralyze them. Silver's introduction to Logan is filled with danger and was central to the tale delivered in TWIST. Cross hates Mages, but Silver might just change his opinion. I was impressed at how Dark developed Logan and look forward to learning more about his abilities.

Dark continues to solidify the world she has created, given insight into its history, teaches and hierarchy. Justus, who doesn't like to be touched, is the perfect teacher for Silver and I devoured the little tidbits about this complex Mage. Adam, his mentor, and Simon are all present. We meet new characters who piqued my curiosity. Dark is assembling a motley crew of characters as they work together on taking down the benefactor. Their interaction from disagreements to teasing banter pulled me into their world.

While there is plenty of suspense and action scenes sprinkled throughout TWIST a developing romance is pushed to the forefront. As a treat, we also see a second romance that develops. These threads held my attention as much as the overall arc and current situation. We also get time to further develop friendships within this group. I absolutely adore Simon. He makes me laugh and Justus intrigues me. I actually thought he might be a romantic interest for Silver but have moved past that.

We see growth in Silver as Dark showcases her strength, compassion, and stubbornness. While she is still a learner she refuses to watch from the sidelines and does a fair job of handling all the testosterone surrounding her.

For me, TWIST, was stronger than STERLING, as Dark had to spend less time establishing the world and focused on the characters and different threads within the Mageri series. Fresh and action packed Dark created a world and characters I am anxious to revisit.

Nicole Poole continues to narrate as she does Dark's other series. I love both her female and male voices. I love when an author and narrate come together like this and couldn't imagine the series on audio without her. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer ...more

“I LOVED the first book, loved the attitude and snark. Book 2 seems to have been toned down a little, and I missed that, BUT, the Alpha maleness went up about 10 points with the addition of another guy looking out for Silver, talk about romantic tension! Thankfully, it did not go the way of Anita Blake, (who I do love, too). Instead, Silver is surrounded by those who are looking out for her best interest, whether they win her affections, or not, awesome!

I'll start by saying that I enjoyed this book better than book one. For starters, all the characters that made an appearance and then seemed to fall off the page, never to be seen again, have reappeared. Their point to the story has finally become clear. That was one of my biggest complaints about book one, meeting characters that disappeared. Now, with everyone back in the picture, I was much happier.

I'll start by saying that I enjoyed this book better than book one. We meet two new species in this book. There are Chitah, the narrator pronounced cheetah, but they never mention that he could shift. He did have cat-like personality, with speed, enhanced smell, etc. Chitah are also able to kill or paralyze Mage. There is also a wolf-shifter that we meet. He is actually able to shift into the wolf form and we do see him on page in this form.

There is more romance in this book than in book one. There are two different pairs. A pair of humans that we meet in book one and reappear in this book. Plus, there seems to be something between Silver and the Chitah, Logan Cross. Adam has shown some interest, but doesn't seem to be pushing really hard. I could also see Justus becoming a love interest, but not sure that it will happen.

This story is a dark one, just like book one. Silver is beaten up again. She seems to need help a lot more than most UF heroines. While she does get herself out of the situation, it required the help of someone else each time. I would like to see her stand up on her own more. She wants Justus to treat her like a grownup and let her go out on her own, well, she needs to learn how to take herself.

Overall, I enjoyed this story much more than book one. I will look forward to looking at the next book. To see what happens with Silver, Justus, Logan and the rest of the gang.

Narration
Once again, I think Nicole Poole is not a bad choice for this series. While, I don't think she will ever be one of my favorite narrators, I think she does an okay job. I still think the men could be more masculine. Overall, not bad.

I enjoyed Twist much more than the first book. I knew the world and characters a bit more. I still feel the lack of knowledge about the world. In urban fantasy though, it takes time to build the world and character over the series.

Silver has gone about her new situation much differently than I would. I would be trying to learn everything I could. We see the world through her and she seems more interested in social times, friends and fightin ...more

Loved the story and especially loved the characters but there were a few TSTL moments that were distracting and out of character. Still this story is laced with action and and LOL humorous.

"Twist" is the second installment in the "Mageri Series". Silver continues her learnings of the Mageri world and the Breed worlds. She has also continued with her self-defense training and getting to know her Ghuardian, Justus and exactly how the Learner-Ghuardian relationship.

Twist picks up shortly after the end of the story in Sterling (Mageri#1). Silver is still the wonderful and strong female protagonist I loved in book one, and she continues to learn how to take care of herself, fight, and use her new powers under Justus' guard.
