In fairness, 3.5 stars, but still quite fun and a good distraction. Great for sci-fi/ fantasy readers and excellent for a long plane ride or spring break entertainment. I'll be reading the sequel... ...more

I really, truly wanted to like this. I almost DNF'ed but was urged to carry on. It was interesting but didn't mesmerize me. I don't think I'm going to continue on the series. ...more

3.5 stars — Hmm. This should have been a 4 or 5 star book for me. Schwab's prose is excellent and I love reading about magic and parallel worlds. The world and magic system is fascinating enough that I'll see if book 2 can hold my interest. ...more

Parallel Londons filled with magic? Yes, please! I enjoyed the characters and setting in A Darker Shade of Magic, though I find I've already forgotten how it all ended...This is quite possibly due to the fact I listened to the audiobook, and those tend to stick with me less. The pickpocket pirate girl (Lila?) is exceptionally likeable, and I hope we see lots more of her in future books. ...more
