Grace Lin is such an incredible author. Without losing detail and vivid descriptions she is able to get her stories moving quickly. I loved the folk tales that wove Minli's journey together.

This was a good book. Set as a fairytale or a fable, but you really get to connect with the characters. I love how everything is tied together. You realize that the stories are all connected together or about the same things and they answer questions as you go along. There are a lot of elements that I recognize from past legends, but all done in a fresh way.

Very sweet children's book. The back matter was very nice as well. This would have been better in a print book than on my kindle- but the images worked even without color. Lovely message, and solid story-telling. ...more
