This is the best book I've read in forever. Written in 1952 in Norway, it's a sprawling historical fiction that follows the plundering career of Orm "Red Orm" Tostesson, a viking raider in the year 980. Orm and his followers go a-viking through England, Ireland, and Spain in an always believable if dramatic fashion.
