I like Barbara Kingsolver's writing, and so was pretty well disposed to like this book, which I did. I am not sure it is the best of her books, but I liked the story, and the characters. I also liked the idea of setting it in the hills of Appalachia, among people who are not well off, yet make do with the life situations they find themselves in.

Set in Tennessee, this book is about a deviation in nature. The monarch butterflies which usually overwinter in Mexico have settled down on a mountain top in Tennessee. The biological descriptions in this book are easy enough for an amateur to understand, but are obviously accurate. My local book club selected this book for our January 2014 discussion. We'd read a book by Barbara Kingsolver before, The Bean Trees, and I really looked forward to the discussion.
The story was engaging, although a bit frustrating at times. Very interesting. I was not happy with the ending and didn't understand where the author was going with it. Global warming is scary to think about!
