I first read A Study in Scarlet when I was in school. This is technically the first book in the series but I got to it after quite a long time. This book was a bit less interesting than the rest, I think because of the shifting perspectives. But then again maybe I was too young at that time and first impressions die hard. I mean, I have re-read it at least 4 times since then...that means I like it.

This is the first book that Doyle ever wrote that included Sherlock Holmes. It's all there; when Watson and Sherlock Holmes meet one another, the first case, the gradual growth of the relationship between the two men. It's a bit awkward at first, both the relations between Holmes and Watson and the writing. Doyle is still learning his way in terms of writing the tales.
