Cormoran Strike, private detective, is famous for solving the crime of a famous model as well as having a famous father. However, his job comes first as he tries to make an honest living without handouts or relying on his father’s fame. The wife of a semi-famous writer seeks Cormoran out to find her missing husband. I love the characters of Cormoran Strike and Robin, his secretary-cum-sidekick in his private investigator practice. I devoured (the audio version of) Cuckoo's Calling, the first in the series.

I liked this one well enough, especially the continuation of the Strike/Robin storyline and also the introduction of a bunch of other characters and more of a glimpse into Cormoran's past, but I didn't like it as much as the first one. I really enjoyed this. JK Rowling is a brilliant author and this isn't any different. It's obviously not brilliant contemporary literature, but it's fun and I would recommend it to crime fans and someone looking for something fun to read over the holidays. I am looking forward to the next one ...more
