Well, okay. A lot of people seem to "love" (not sure that's the right word) this book. I read that some found it truly scary.
I really didn't find it that scary or involving. It is in many ways a standard horror story but from a different starting point or possibly a different "take".
I don't want to give a spoiler or spoilers so I'll try to be a little oblique while giving an idea as to what we have here. The idea is sort of a bio-disaster...and if I go further it will be a spoiler.

This was a very good read. However, I would have loved if the pace was a bit more quicker as at times it seemed as the story dragged itself...though I never wanted to give up on reading. Otherwise I loved the writing and all the descriptions, especially the disgusting ones...usually I'm hard to get repelled but N. Cutter managed to make my stomach flip flop.
His insight in each character was amazing, I loved how he described each boy and differentiated them by smells (at least the Scoutmaster Tim ...more

I've got mixed feelings about this one. Was it bad? No. Was it good? Not necessarily.
This was very much a middle-of-the-road book, in my opinion. I am fairly desensitized to gore so that didn't really bother me. I guess what this book lacked, in my opinion, was a strong connection between me and the characters. This isn't necessarily a judgement on the author's writing style or anything like that, I guess maybe I'm just not the target audience for this? ...more

After getting over 200 pages in to The Troop and enjoying the ride, I came across a section that, in choosing not to read, also made up my mind to not read any further. Although the book was a great read and kept my attention I will not finish it. There are mentions of animal testing in the book too that I don't agree with but forced my way through, this next section though will cause me to stop reading. A book that seems to glorify animal cruelty holds no interest for me and has no place in my
