What Members Thought

Anyone who loves music should read this book, for the chapter titles alone. Honestly, it's the first time, I started almost every chapter humming. It is a classic of the genre, and the hype is correct. All the characters live and breathe. There is a wonderful sense of humor in the book, and Bull knows her lore. Eddi is a nice, almost normal heroine who has flaws and knows it. I loved this book.

I think this story will speak most to those who share Bull's passions; Minneapolis, live pop music from the 80s(apologies; I've no idea what genre she writes about. Prince and the Revolution were the only group I recognised!)and tales of Faerie. Although it's the usual fantasy theme of ordinary girl discovering she has special abilities, Bull writes well enough that I kept reading. Yay! A fantasy novel that takes place in the Twin Cities!

This is one of my all-time favorite books. I loved re-reading it for the Endicott Mythic Fiction group, even though circumstances meant I was late doing so. It's a wonderful book and I highly recommend it.

Kind of dated now. The clothes described screamed "80's!", as did the songs & bands mentioned.
I'm going to try more of her books, like the more recent stuff, to see if I enjoy them more than this. It was fairly fun, but I wasn't always eager to get back to the book. ...more
