I found the setup to be contrived, especially the company official so ready to foist off Charlotte on a strange ship. It seemed unlikely that he would keep his job after that, which is what made it unconvincing. Part of the ending was also unconvincing, but the story in the middle was quite good, with interesting characters and a clever and serious adventure.
