I love Karin Fossum's books. (Full disclosure: my heritage is half Norwegian and I'm intrigued by the Skandinavian perspective.) They take the genre of murder mystery to a brilliant new level by focusing on the effects of the murder on all the different people involved instead of on figuring out whodunnit. So refreshing! With every new book Fossum explores a different dynamic, a different type of relationship and issue in society.

These are like the Camilla Lackberg books for me - the crimes aren't too crazy, the inspectors are great characters, and I like the focus on the small towns. There is as much time devoted to characters as to the whodunit.

I plan on giving all of my Karin Fossum reviews the same statement because I don't even want the hint of a spoiler on this woman's fantastic work. Fossum's writing gave me my love of Scandanavian mystery writers and I seek those writings out. Hands down, though, Fossum's work is the best I have come across so far.

Definitely my least favorite in the series. Normally Fossum warrants a solid 4 stars, I almost feel I'm being overly generous giving this one 3.

A well written - character driven story just like all her others.
My least favorite so far but a good read nevertheless.
