Wow! This is the ultimate Bildungsroman, set against the horror of WWII. Most books about WWII focus on the atrocities of the Holocaust in Germany and Poland, but in recent years I’ve seen more being written about its impact in other countries like France and now Italy. Another example of how the history we’re taught is selective and biased. Pino’s story is amazing, and what a brave young man. A solid read. Super interesting characters and plot, but a bit too long for me (needed some editing). Definitely a page turners and some new to me arts of history.
