Welcome Diane

This group typically has a lot of good ideas about books, be more specific if you want some right away, or read the topics and lots will float by.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments hey diane. welcome. i am reading City Of Joy right now. about 1/2 way into it and it is really a very good book. i saw you are reading a douglas preston book. i recently read The Monster Of Florence and really liked it too. if i have read any books you are interested in let me know and i can give my opinion on it

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

If you are up for something dark, The Road is an excellent book in my opinion.

The book I most recently raved about was A Thousand Veils. It is a really fast read, based on a true story about an Iraqi journalist trying to escape the country and Saddam's persecution.

message 7: by Diane (new)

Diane thanks will put it on the tbr list do you mind if i add you as a friend

Sure you can. Watch out for Larry and Jim, though.

message 9: by Diane (new)

Diane why what up with them

message 10: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Well, Larry claims to know Vern Einstein. And Jim got lost in the new age section of Barnes and Noble all day yesterday.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Watch out for Larry and Jim, though.

I'd take offense if it wasn't true ;-D.

message 12: by Diane (new)

Diane how funny , oh well just happy to meet you all

message 13: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I never actually claimed to know Vern. I claimed to know of him. Either would have been an outright lie -- but I just want to be accused accurately, Sally.

Hi, Diane. Watch out. Jim and I are dangerous.

message 14: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Actually, Diane, watch out for me. I tend to lie. >:)

Félix (habitseven) I don't know Diane. I sense you are telling a lie. That's good. You'll fit in here. Go to my profile and you see all of my 4 or 5 star books. Truthfully.

message 23: by Diane (new)

Diane well you will have to get to know me to find out if im lying huh?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Hi Diane. Welcome to Terminal Coffee.
I have an awful lot of favorite books. Have you got a few hours?

message 25: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) You have to put some kind of picture up before we can get to know you better. I mean ... even if it's a lie as mine is.

message 26: by Diane (new)

Diane i will look at your profile and yes love sugestions
wow i would love to work at a library.

message 27: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Watch out. Jackie wants to correct your spelling. (Hint: sugestions)

message 28: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments my daughter used to say when she was 6 and i took her to the library "when i get older i am going to live AND work here" as she loved the library so much

she started working there when she was 15 and when she got out of college she began full time there. she is my inside at library and stashes new books and such for me (and no fines)

message 29: by Julie (new)

Julie | 568 comments Larry, I just now noticed your picture is Willie Nelson.
I love Willie!!!

message 30: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) You were always on my mind.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Your picture is a lie Larry
::drops down to his knees holding his head::

I'm devastated, I thought I knew a Willie Nelson look alike.

message 32: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yeah well ... I used to look like Homer Simpson.

message 33: by Julie (new)

Julie | 568 comments Both icons, but I think you have the right one for the pot thread.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

message 35: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) And guess what? I'm on the road again!

message 36: by Lori (new)

Lori Kevin - what was your last name? I'm so reporting you!

Wow, I am so jealous. To be one of the first to get an eagerly anticipate book, instead of 240 on the holds list.

message 37: by Diane (new)

Diane okay does this help you can see my family

Here's a picture for your avatar:

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments No, it's not that I WANT to correct people's spelling. It's that occasionally I can't help myself.

Diane, I'm a children's and teen librarian, so a lot of my favorites are kids' books. I also love SF and Fantasy. One of my favorite authors is Robin McKinley, who wrote these:

Beauty A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley Beauty A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast
and
The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley The Blue Sword

I also love Diana Wynne Jones and Terry Pratchett, British authors who write funny fantasy. Diana's humor is much, much drier than Terry's though.

I've also read tons of mysteries, though not lately. I think I've read everything by Agatha Christie, most of Ellis Peters, and quite a bit of Anne Perry and Sue Grafton.

message 40: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm glad to see you're finally coming oiut of your shell, Jim.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Lets hope I don't see my shadow

::wonders what happens when a turtle sees its shadow::

message 42: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments lori - one of my daughter's jobs is to unpack new books. she texts me when they come in and holds them for me on the D.L. she loves me and she's my fav daughter. i got all kind of inside's at the library like the magazine girl, the reference and children's library people etc. i play santa for them at christmas and it pays off

message 43: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Um ... I think turtles are too close to the ground to even have a shadow.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

well then I'm going back in my shell

message 45: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Am I the only one that thinks Kevin would look kinda creepy in a Santa suit?
