What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Ok, read these books a while ago and now cant remember the author or titles - it is a series of at least three books. In the first book, the hero rescues the heroine - he is a sherrif. In the third book he cheats on her and leaves her for the waitress he is cheating with -
the serial killer comes back and nearly kills the heroine, kills their son. the original hero has a brain tumor, which is causing him to act abnormally, but it is discovered too late the original herione has remarried another man.
